Mad Tea Party

I wasn’t a fan of the opening, the intense sharp note of iris butter and cassis were a bit much and i kind of wanted to wash it off. But I’m really, really glad I didn’t! After the initial intensive notes settle the scent turns into a beautiful, realistic, creamy and milky iris butter with a strong black tea accord and sweet toffee cocoa. It becomes the most buttery, sweet tea and pastry scent. I was genuinely shocked at how much my opinion of it changed wearing it throughout the day, really incredible stuff. I have to say it is incredibly strong and the longevity is amazing. I wouldn’t call it blind buy safe however - best to sample on skin and wait for it to dry down

This is hard to describe and is not what the notes would suggest; the scent is not so creamy toffee, rather the texture of the scent is very tea-like to my nose. But still, this also has a strong lactonic realistic milk scent that softens the tea and masks all bitterness, so I wouldn't call this black tea scent either. Blackcurrant leaves come to my mind. With milk. I can't describe it better and that's only half of the scent. The other, most distinctive aspect is Iris. Buttery Carrot Cake Iris to my nose. Very intoxicating and gorgeous. Just a corked brandy for me, please. I have to run to nowhere.

My first association was a childhood memory of sour tea made from rose hips. Indeed, the milky accord is also quite pronounced. Overall, there is something warm and elegant about this fragrance, but there is also something unsettling about it, although it is difficult to put my finger on what it is. The warmth of rum, tea, and milk is only a veil hiding a psychotic abyss, in the way that Deleuze interprets Carroll's Alice (with Nietzsche and others) in “The Logic of Sense”. Indeed, it's a party with tea, and it's mad.

Oh my goodness, this is so good! I'm not particularly into tea scents, but Balenciaga's B intense has been my go-to tea, its softness is different from other tea scents, its lack of harshness is just so addictive and yes; the same soft approach to tea can also be found here in Mad Tea Party. It combined with real Iris butter is just, just perfect! The trick to this scent is the long maceration and light spraying. I can't recommend this to anyone, this is just so crazy good!

Alice: Madness Returns - "Murdering the time" This isn’t a Wonderland story. At this tea party, the Mad Hatter, the Dormouse, and the March Hare are with Alice again but this time, they’re busy pouring tea over their own heads. Madness must be done justice. Rancid and sour butter, moldy toffee, cocoa that’s been sitting in the cupboard for decades and a fatty milk that reeks like a barn! If Carroll’s morbid and perverse thoughts had a scent, this would be it. I could never wear this, but I respect it, it’s something truly out there. The notes and concept were promising, but the lactonic and buttery notes gave off an instant rancidity that was too strong for me to handle more than 10 minutes before scrubbing it off. There was a hint of a pleasant tea note that I could faintly make out between the sour, acrid lactonic/butter notes, but unfortunately it didn't come through. Try before you buy to see if it agrees with your skin chemistry.

this could be great if sufficiently watered down and made less aggressive. I mean the smell itself is actually great - it's like a blackcurrant pomade mixed with butter and amplified x1000000. and its feels exactly like that - a fruity jammy pomade with a very pronounced milky-buttery profile. the rest of the notes initially create an almost spicy, spiky aura to the fragrance, but they smooth out fast. I would still say to give it a try as it's indeed an interesting tea interpretation, just start with a micro-dosage maybe.

Nopety nope. The first 20 minutes were awful: expired milk, rancid butter, iris, tea and plastic. It gets better afterwards, kind of sour milk with tea scent, but that opening was a hard challenge: the temptation to scrub it off was quite big. I don't think I will grab my tester a second time for this one.
