Aesthete

As a huge fan if Le Galion house, I blind bought a full bottle of Aesthete for a very reasonable price on Vinted. At first impression it struck me as strongly masculine, smooth fruity and smoky leather with an old school twist of davana and castoreum. To be appreciated as a masterfully blended perfume, but I doubted I would wear it much as it seemed too musculine (I am a woman in my 30s). Oh my, was I wrong - I keep reaching for Aesthete over and over again! The opening is fruity and bright thanks to the mandarin (and I seem to smell bergamot?), but stangely supported by newly tanned leather and oud smokiness. As the scent progresses, the herby accents and incense match the intensity of the mandarin, grounding the composition at the same time as lending it a sense of airiness. The beautiful jasmine note emerges to add sensuality and nonchalance to the composition. Sandalwood and vanilla (barely detectable) provide a slable base for the drydown. Aesthete is long lasting on my skin (8h easily) with moderate projection. Unique, contemplative and non-conformist in its blending of notes. I love to layer it with rose-centric perfumes (1969 from HdP works a treat).

Ambiguous to a point. I was looking for a fine leather perfume, smells like delicate warm skin, but not too sweet to the extent that it loses the feature of leather. The first few minutes of Aesthete didn't give me exactly like what I want——it's pretty far from normal leather concept, but it surely is delicate. It’s probably due to the combination of fruity mandarin and fine leather. To be precise, the mandarin doesn’t stand out as a distinct note, it only serves to provide a vaguely sweet profile for the leather. A hint of smokey note is also noticeable in the beginning, then plays hide and seek all along the way. At the latter half, the compound woody/leather notes create a well-rounded, slightly fermented herbal feel, like geraniums or coumarin. It has a foggy-woody aura. One can also sense something heavy/muddy lurking underground, perhaps due to the castoreum? P.S. Luca Turin rate it four stars.

Alright, I finally "get" this perfume. The golden sheen of synthetic sweet orange is quite short-lived at the beginning; then we dive into the mystically charming body: it shares the same sweet, creamy, ambiguous character with a few Penhaligon's (fake) oud , i.e. Alizarin, As Sawira, etc. etc. There may be sprinkles of salty-peppery spice , but it soon melts into that abstract oud accord, which is somewhat rosy but ten miles away from a typical rose, as creamy as some high-end face cream, also strangely remind me of dried dates ((the fruit)), and a smooth old woody core somewhere deep down. Finally, a slightly drier skeleton of nutty leather becomes tangible, but still wrapped inside the rosy-oud-y flesh. Only when it enters skin stage, I can sense a bit gun-metal/weedy tinge of (perhaps) IBQ base.

on a cool gray morning, the incense forward scent barely acknowledges the softer notes. it is a clear frankincense type not some perfumed incense stick. odor of the thurible. in the chilly air, nothing distracting the resinous warmth tho there is a light background. it is a solitary fragrance which invites calm enjoyment of life's quieter pursuits. doubtful it will garner compliments, tho there may be a comment from someone who has fond associations with chilly fall mornings in church. perfect for those times of contemplation. a cup of rich black tea, a biscuit, and a cloak of aesthete

Asthete is a wonderful, sophisticated, yet rough leather. Opening has a distinct citrus, I get lemon personally, but of course with that leather underneath. As it evolves there's a balsamic sweetness, a hint of old fashioned IBQ leather, and woody oud. I think the name really hits it here, as there's a real feeling of intellectual sophistication here, but the kind that came up rough on the streets and found it's way out. A real stunner from Le Galion.

Beautiful and classy blend. Everything is very well blended showcasing the incense, the leathery saffron and guaiac wood, supported by a fruity (mandarin) jasmine in the background and slight green touch, sandalwood and a touch of vanilla are definitely present in the dry down. Can't detect much oud, probably a supporting note on the woody feel. Very classy and gentleman, although I can totally see a powerful woman rocking this

A fragrance with fruity notes almost sweet at first which disappear to give a round leather lay on a smoked wood. I warn you, that's not a pure leather or a pure wood, it smells like a fruity woody leather. The first spray can be strong but that's fine after few minutes. This is a good scent, a good work. a lot softer than the notes would make you think. Very wearable. imagine if L'instant homme had a tiny bit of smoke and leather added and this is it..on me anyway and I'm a light sprayer and it's perfect.

This smells exquisite and well blended. To me this is a better, more refined and updated version of Caron's Yatagan. It has more depth and feels more expensive. A superb fragrance.

I’m the first person to review Aesthete! Well after trying several Le Galion fragrances this afternoon I have to say that this one was the biggest surprise. I really have a hard time trying to relate it to anything else I ever wore or tried. It’s definitely the most potent of the samples I have here. Longevity and projection seems very good. For the first two hours it reminded me of the smell of an alcohol. But was it whisky? My boyfriend reckons it’s rhum. I trust him. After nearly 4 hours now, and reading the description, I can start feeling the woody components. Perhaps it had similarities with Comme des Garçons Man, or M7. Le Galion remains fairly confidential as no one else has commented on this perfume yet. It’s really interesting and I recommend all those who like the two perfumes mentioned above to try this one.

I’ve not smelled a large number of scents that have incense, let alone can carry that note throughout most of the fragrance. Aesthete does that pretty well. It opens heavy on that note, lighter on the saffron and artemesia. There’s a slight bright contrast to that heavy opening with the orange, but it’s not that noticeable. The heart of Aesthete is simply oud and leather dominated which leads to the common summation of a white musk, vanilla and sandalwood. But the incense is there all the while for me. Aesthete isn’t really a fragrance that tells me a story, but it smells very nice, has great projection and longevity and would fit in almost any collection. I’ll want to pick up a bottle sometime in the near future.

If you take Feminite du Bois, replace dried plum by jammy mandarin, reduce floral scents and add incense, oud and leather, and reduce sweetness by 30%. Voila! You have Aesthete by Le Galion. Although they does not smell similar side by side, they do give a similar vibe. If FdB is androgyny leaning feminine, Aesthete is leaning masculine. I did not notice it is for men when I bought it. I have no problem wearing it at all. A well-blended perfume suitable for every occasion.

Four stars by Luca Turin. I easily concur as this is one of my favorites since the last year or so. A wonderful leather, woody, fruity, spicy with some rough edges. An unpolished gem or broken perfection repaired with gold, if you wish. Bold though mature.

OK so Aesthete is brand new and NOT an old Le Galion perfume reintroduced for the 21st? On the one hand, I'm glad - on the other, who knew? I mean, it's a great big hit of bergamot (and petit grain? with a helping of pure old-fashioned lemon methinks) that tapers down to the softest, most powdery suede, the kind your attractive aunt would wear when she was still single. I recognise it's a proper, expertly composed fragrance but I would never have guessed it was composed in 2014 and not 1964...

Opens with what smells to me like a delicious spiced apple. Then it does a disappearing act (or there is something I lack the ability to smell) and it dries down later to a balanced, abstract saffron suede with softly sweet vanilla. So soft that the only way anyone else will notice and appreciate is if you are making out with them, which is not a bad thing.

Excellent composition. Somewhere between Tuscany Uomo Aramis (the original recipee from late 80s) and Jul and Mad's Garuda. Unfortunately extreme poor in longevity and silliage. Pity.With a higher concentration (which its price definitely demands) this recipee could have been a Smashhit.

Leather fragrance. A little bit animalic. With sharp medicinal, synthetic touches. I don’t know to which fragrance to compare it ( maybe Mauboussin Une Histoire d’Homme Irresistible or Lagerfeld Kapsule Woody. Or in a lesser extend: Lalique Hommage à l homme Voyageur)

Tried without knowing the notes, it seemed very sweet and fruity. It took my nose 4 hours to pick up the leather note ... :-(. Elegant,brilliant,more femme to my nose and...familiar! Well mixed. Still not bad.

A kind of Black Afgano with a fruity note. Beautiful saffron - davana - leather - oud accord
