Bourrasque (2020)

I have been a perfume enthusiast for the better part of the past decade and I have never been happier with a purchase than with this fragrance. I am honestly astounded by the quality of this juice. On first sniff from the cap, you get gorgeous vintage vibes, bright ginger and spices, but what strikes you immediately is the richness and depth of the formula. It’s all about how it wears, and it wears so beautifully. A class act, with such character and composure. It’s complex, old school, but absolutely contemporary in its smoothness and in the way it flows over you. Earthy, floral, spicy, and slightly fruity nuances are blended to perfection, leaving a trail that exudes sophistication and effortlessness. Despite what the scent profile might suggest, fall and winter usage above all, I think this shines in mid to warm weather. There's something cold in here, like the coming of a wind that marks the end of summer. Magnificent until the very drydown.

I find the new Bourrasque very beautiful, but it took me a few wearings to "place" it in my olfactory memory/data bank. I think I'd classify it as an kind of amber chypre, if such a thing can exist. It's both soothing and stimulating, appropriate for all seasons and genders. (I've come to really appreciate Flores-Roux's work for Le Galion; his Ferveur is one of my favorites.)

Very classy. A spicy floral chypre. Love the addition of cardamon and black pepper. Addition of noticeable oakmoss and patchouli also gives the floral more backbones.

If you want a modernized chypre, this one's for you. Woody, floral and mossy of course, but also spicy and fruity (osmanthus). Unforgiving and charismatic.

Just got a sample. What a nice refreshing chypre. The sweetness from osmanthus blends so well with the ambery notes. With a touch of smokiness and spice, this is a great everyday fragrance for cold days. I really enjoy it.

I really like this one a lot, but to my nose this smells like a rich slightly sweet tobacco scent. Not sure why this is coming off as tobacco to me,as no one else has mentioned it, but it just does.

A warm, comforting and very pleasant amber

I don't smell anything except the pepper, and perhaps I'm just hypersensitive to pepper these days. I think this would be an interesting, multi-layered experience if I could ever get past the pepper! At the moment, I think I'm smelling like marinated steak!

The original, long-gone Bourrasque is my favorite of all perfumes. I have 3 mini's, but can not find anything more than that. Any suggestions? Have any of you experienced the original, with its tonka beans floating in the bottle??

Built as a chypre, but it's character is predominantly around Rose and Patchouli. Very much like an up market fancy rose patchouli scent. It's very nice, very classy. THIS is what classy 'old money' people smell like.

What?! The original Bourrasque actually had tonka beans floating in the bottle? I'd love to see an image of that bottle.
