Eau Noble (2022)

The old "Eau Noble" was perhaps not the most innovative of all fragrances from the 70s, but certainly one of the most noble-smelling. The new "Eau Noble", launched 50 years later by the resurrected house of Le Galion, lacks both: Noblesse and innovation. Instead, the fragrance offers a fruity-fresh, aromatic-green fougère concept that is familiar from many shower gels today. So why do the owners of Le Galion call the fragrance "Eau Noble" when it actually smells rather generic? Well, I suppose they want to attract younger consumers, which is perfectly fine. But then why not give a completely new fragrance a completely new name? This new "Eau Noble" has nothing to do with the old one, just like the new "Patou pour Homme" has nothing to do with its predecessor of the same name, or the new "Dior Homme" with the old "Dior Homme". Why create this confusion? And is there a law that successors must always be more ordinary? (With a few exceptions: Grès' "Cabochard"!) But the bottle is great, after all!

En clair : raccourcir la pyramide olfactive, utiliser des matières premières les moins chères possibles et faire payer leurs flacons une blinde !!!

The idea to bring Galion back as a famous in the past perfume company is great. Some of the initial formulas based on the original historic formulas were very good five, ten years ago. But then the production of the current company bacame very inconsistent. Each time I smelled the fragrances during the last few years it was like a different fragrance. Very big difference between the batches, reformulation all the time. So recently Eau Noble, which at the beginning was a nice classic French citrus woody cologne in the style of the classic Eau Sauvage by Dior, has been unrecognisable. I hope they will take note and keep the quality high and the good image of Le Galion as well.

There are 2 'Eau Noble'. The older version from 1972 I believe, which was brought back in 2014, and this one launched in 2022; they are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT scents. I think it's a big mistake; they should've just named this one something else, as it confuses people, despite the bottles being different. This one(2022) smells very fruity; the rhubarb and blood orange are a good combination, and smell very nice. Unfortunately, on my skin, that's all I get. I hoped for geranium and pine, but they're just not there. In the dry down I get cedar mixture with a little bit of the fruitiness.

This Eau Noble is a completely new one : a modern interpretation by Rodrigo Flores Roux. Contemporary fougere, with woody, fruity and green facets. The original Eau Noble (1972) is now sold under the name Essence Noble. There was also another Essence Noble back in 2015, but it was a limited edition that's not available anymore.
