Snob

I'm testing a vintage formulation of Snob, from the 1980s, that my kind friend Sarah sent me. I don't know what the 2014 formulation smells like, but if it smells like the one I just sprayed on my clean cotton handkerchief, it's almost criminal that the number ranking is so low. This '80s Snob deserves to be at least a 4.0, and I'd rank it higher myself. It's a beautiful rich aldehydic floral, a bit like a cross between Joy by Patou (I do not recognize the Dior Joy), Chanel No. 5 (OG, none of this lighter-fresher nonsense), and Arpège by Lanvin. The rose accord is particularly exquisite--very much like the rose I remember in Joy the first time I smelled it, back in the late '80s--and the sandalwood base is sheer perfection. Snob is truly special, and I feel lucky to have smelled it. A couple of hours into the drydown, and oh my! That rose-iris-jasmine juggernaut just slays. This smells like old money and fresh sheets. Part of me wants to find out what the new version is like, but that sounds like a recipe for disappointment. In the meantime, I'll just huff this handkerchief until I hyperventilate or the scent wears off, whichever comes first. Update: Four full days later, the fragrance is still going strong on the handkerchief. I keep burying my face in it for ad hoc aromatherapy. Really crazy, the longevity on this superb vintage formulation. I can't imagine that the current one wears like this.

A month ago I found that Le Galion had been recreated. I immediately ordered Snob. At 55, I still have a bit in the original bottle I bought at a parfumerie in Seattle at probably 18. The European proprietor recommended it as a fit for what she perceived to be my look/blonde; finer smelling and prettier smelling than Joy. It was my all-time favorite. New is never better. I love it emotionally, anachronistically, but it lacks the depth and finesse of the original. I still love it though because I will not smell like anyone else.

I found it brought it. Something special about this smell. Smells very intelligent and expensive. Imagine the evening in the theater. It's floral perfume. For a woman who knows her price. I love it! I will say this perfume for evening wear. Not strong just how should be.

Vintage Snob smells like a more delicate, wearable Patou Joy. An aldehydic jasmine/abstract floral with a warm skanky base. Lovely, womanly vintage style.

Really like this one. Reminds me of an 80's floral. Very crispy citrus opening and into bright yellow flowers and creamy musk. Longevity is a solid 8 hours. Sillage is medium. Perfect for the office. Feminine and a bit musky sexy but absolutely mature and smart.

I have just gotten samples. This scent is killing me. I want it so badly and I don’t want to stop.

Bought a sample after reading the good reviews. Sorry I do not like it on my skin. For the first two hours it is a very sharp and cold musky scent, almost disturbing to my nose, then turns into a soft powdery floral smell, which I don't find anything special. It reminds me of Musc Intense from Nicolai and they have a similar vibe on my skin - strong rose and musk with fruitiness, except that Musc Intense is more animalic and a bit sweeter. If you like/hate either of them, it is likely you have same feeling to the other one.

Long ago--I found discarded testers--gently used--in the stockroom of a Macy's in Queens where I worked for a week--probably for Parlux back in the 1980's--subbing for the line rep. The store no longer carried any Le Galion fragrances and the spray EDT's of both Sortilege and Snob, partially used and forgotten, had been tossed in a corner. They both wound up going home with me--where I fell n love with both of them!! Snob was a lighter--fresher take on Patou's Joy and Sortilege was the same more delicate and subtle version of Lanvin's Arpege. A fragrance influencer on Instagram posted about a new men's scent from Le Galion--and I was amazed that the line has been revived!! Sadly--the price point for the new versions of these scents is way out of my retired person's budget!! But--I loved them--I hope the new scents are just as beautiful!!

This is a review of the reissued perfume. It's powdery soft tea-rose blended with dry crisp white florals (jasmine, orange blossom) and splashed with citrus. I thought it was very similar to Fragonard's Belle de Nuit, except this has citrus to give an aldehyde-like throw. The sillage of new Snob is amazing. Lasts great too.

I've got a very vintage version mini perfectly stored which smell like cristal rose, brigh jasmine and windy lily of the valley. Not so snob. Very vernal. A little Oily honey, beeswax traces. Remember me Joy de Patou in a light version, less dark.

I have a 2 ounce bottle of the perfume from my mom from the seventies!! It was still sealed!!! And it hasnt evaporated at all. Very Heady but I Love It!! I only use a little biteach time i use it I want it to last forever!

It starts with a green apple with spicy roses but soon dried down as a fresh and clean, water-greenery Muguet with Rose-Jasmine combo scents like cheap soap or disinfectant. I got La Rose of the same brand in here.

All I see on ebay are vintage bottles, but the bottle pictured here looks new and redone. Perhaps they are relaunching Snob? I like the notes except marigold, would be interesting...

I was just reading in Bois de Jasmin that Le Galion is indeed relaunching their discontinued fragrances - could be interesting!
