Vetyver

Spicy petitgrain (the star) and verbena, supported by aromatics. In the heart, a shy herbal vetiver appears, to give some body and woodiness. In the base, a delicate but noticeable sandalwood note will round a bit the edges, accompanied by a hint of tonka, without ever having the juice loosing its classic masculinity. An old school formula with a twist to make of it a more contemporary wear. Some similarities to Vetyver by Mazzolari. The only downside might be the performance, which is just modest on my skin. Do I want it? Yes, because even if it doesn't bring anything new to the table, it does it extremely well. Do I need it? No, as I have several in that style already. Will I buy it? Not for now, but this style really ticks all my boxes, so, in the long run, I am not sure I will 'behave' haha Soft classic masculinity. Highly recommended. Spring/Summer, 30+

One of the most beautiful, uplifting but calming experience I have ever found in a cologne. Vetiver by Guerlain was a first love and with me for years. Frederic Malle’s Vetiver Extraordinaire amazed me but then I got lost.. I found Encre Noir too smoky, Sycomore very good but somehow not sure, Miller Harris ‘s take on vetiver stunning but cloying (elemi) etc. Le Galion’s Vetyver hit me immediately though, a perfect match. The opening with a great bergamot, mandarin orange and coriander. Then straight to a beautiful and lively, green/grassy grounding vetiver surrounded, but never drowning, in aromatic herbs. I must have been looking for a vetiver composed as an aromatic fougere and finally here it is. Perfect.

Vetyver (2015) is a combination of vetiver with plenty of citrus, verbena and aromatic herbs. Bergamot and mandarin orange provides a sparkling open, while the aromatic facets create an almost fougère-like character. What I appreciated most was how simple it was to wear. It feels mature and effortless. Nothing feels too much, and the composition is well blended. In the end, I liked it enough to order a bottle. While I would not consider it a quintessential vetiver fragrance, I do think it is an excellent citrus aromatic fragrance built around vetiver.

This is my first sample from Le Galion and I can't say I'm impressed. The thing about "Vetyver" - it's not really about vetiver which is one of my favorite notes worn by my husband. That said - "Vetyver" opened with a harsh amount of spices and citrus dominated notes - reminded me a lot of many classical Italian cologne - type scents. Very aromatic, herbal, a bit sharp and tiny bit old school. I did not get vetyver as I mentioned, but that wasn't the reason why I was dissapointed - this literally has a staying power of 30 minutes! And then it's a warm, close to skin sandalwood/musk. Or maybe not even that. After an hour I'm left with nothing, just my skin, though I could feel some traces of "Vetyver". If you look for vetiver - don't try to find it here.

i know that my nose enjoys fragrances. but i think i really smell with my memory. in the sixties, i was a young adult. fragrances for men were often loud and chemical/alchoholic or the omnipresent hippiness of patchouli. somehow, i discovered le galion and its french "sophistication." rich, warm, embracing. and with a little bit of the "feminine"--metrosexual before metrosexuality. vetyver was a name for a particular memory i recently got a bottle of edp veytver and from the first spray, i was transported. there is a lot going on in le galion's rendition besides vetyver as i have come to know it. there is a cozy salon where aromatic spices create a potpourri. 2 nov 2020: i now have a mini of "vintage." sometimes, the earlier formulations show the true charm, strength and elegance of the perfumer's art. this what vetiver perfume is all about. it is a concerto for vetiver where the soloist plays with a full orchestra of excellent supporting players. everything is more sharp in the vintage. in a post modern world, i am not surprised that the melange seems a bit dated or confused. maybe that is its charm for me. intimacy, elegance and opulence, perhaps, these words no longer have currency. i am not sure that i want a world where quality is measure by PROJECTION. le galion vetyver brings me close, brings me memories and brings me a calming today. post scrpitum: listening to debussy piano music--estampes--is completely in the mood. drifty in a vetyver cloud.
