Eau des Délices

Opens with a beautifully sweet lemon and lime, then the orange comes through, joining his two friends in a party of fresh deliciousness. The orange lingers longer than his two buddies and is eventually joined by the musk and woody base that settles the dry down into a luxuriously comforting citrus musk. Eau des Délices was created on the same concept as the traditional Cologne (Eau de Cologne), in an age of “miraculous waters” that perfumed and cured the ills of the body and soul. It has essential oils of lemon and bergamot from Italy, as well as notes of mandarin orange, petitgrain from Paraguay, French lavender, oakmoss, cypress, and patchouli. It is a reinterpretation of a classic from the company, called Eau du Jardin, which had notes of neroli, sandalwood, and musk and was created by Yuri Gutsatz. The main difference from Eau des Délices to the other current fragrances of the house is its concentration Eau Fraîche since the others have Eau de Parfum concentration. In terms of being fragrant, Eau des Délices does not differ much from the traditional citrus colonies of an era, such as the 4711 Original Eau de Cologne and all the others that came after its emergence. When touching the skin, the succulent bergamot refreshes as if it were absorbed through the pores. The first hour has greater projection, but the fragrance loses strength quickly, not least because the notes are more volatile. Although it does not show much evolution, it is possible to feel the nuances of oakmoss during the process. Eau des Délices is refreshing and invigorating. It is a walk along the Italian Coast, portrayed by the eyes of a traditional French perfumer. And, obviously, this type of fragrance combines very well with hot climates like Brazil.

I love this scent. In fact, I don't understand all the negative reviews it's getting. It is not masculine, it's definitely unisex. It is certainly a cool fragrance, but is is full of bright, juicy citruses. They add a lot of sweetness in the opening. The fragrance has a lot of Aqua di Parma vibe going on. I love the complexity of this fragrance. Even though it seems like a regular cologne, it has the sweetness of citruses, slight bitterness of bergamot, and cool woodiness at the base from vetiver and moss. I only wish it lasted longer. It is very fleeting. Their citron boboli is a way sweeter, lemony perfume, which is somewhat similar. That one also doesn't last. However, most citrus fragrances, especially natural ones, have poor longevity.

Deliciously retro, classic eau de cologne with noticeably natural ingredients. For most of us, it is on masculine side with vague memory of an ageing family member or dandy neighbour. And only for this reason, I'm incapable of wearing it.

first thing I thought was, spicy. then it dried down to a fruit loops smell almost immediately. really good but i need more thoughts on it.

The most 'retro' of the group, a fine, light cologne with a touch of musk for sensuality.

For the vintage cologne lovers. Fresh, very natural, this perfume smell like my grandmother with the garden of flowers. This scent is French cologne for all (100% unisex) with lemon, bergamot, oak moss, lavender and musk. 5/10 (not for me, but perfect for my grandmother & grandfather!) --> In this brand, for summer, I prefer Verveine d'été. Verveine d'été (verbena & bergamot) > Citron Boboli (lemon & clove) > Eau des délices (citrous cologne) --> For spring: Rose Trocadero (a lovely rose fragrance, very fresh) --> For fall: Tubéreuse Trianon (strong tuberose & ylang ylang)

this opens with strong citruses, petitgrain and vetiver, which adds a bit of smokiness. it's very refreshing but then after a minute or two there is a very slight sweetness from the florals which rounds out the perfume. i like it in this mid stage but after awhile the lavender takes over a bit too much and turns to becoming a bit soapy.

Smells incredibly fresh and natural. Like you are in a grove of citrus trees. For me, it only lasts a couple hours on my skin, and is a relatively understated scent throughout. If it performed a little bit better it would be a great fresh Spring/Summer scent.

The Garden of Delights seems to be a strangely bittersweet affair, ...at least as envisioned by either Hieronymus Bosch or Le Jardin Retrouvé. Leaving any criticism of the visual arts for another day, lets turn attention fully on Eau des Délices, a citrus-centered fragrance by Le Jardin Retrouvé, purportedly inspired by the Bosch masterpiece. The citrus varieties most present in Eau des Délices include lemon, petitgrain, and neroli, ones that lean green, and sharply so. Of course there is also a floral aspect to neroli, ...and in bergamot too, which is also present, ...but there is little in the way of the sweeter aspects of citrus; neither floral, fruity, nor freshly aromatic. Even that listed orange note plays mostly as a sourly Sevillian example. ...and of course, the somber oakmoss that dominates the base, fully seals the deal with more bitter greenery. Tartly green citrus colognes are not rare in perfumery, though probably less common than other styles, ...but this is a fairly extreme take on such greenness, Certainly both 4711 Original and Nicolai's Cap Neroli are much sweeter in comparison. Perhaps it would do to compare this with Eau d'Orange Verte. Still, both the name and the painterly inspiration for Eau des Délices is somewhat confounding. Certainly most people would imagine a garden of earthly delights possessing a greater variety of floral riches and fructal sweetness.

I am a sea lover. I am a woman of summer. Everytime I come to the sea and feel the waves tickleing my toes I feel pure joy. While I smile to the sun, I like to keep my hands busy with a sparkling, tasty cocktail. My favorites are those made from citruses and mineral water. The tingling bubbles, the sound of the waves and the smell of salt and warmth are magical. It is not an easy task for me to find a great citrusy perfume. Most of them tend to become to bitter or too sour. Somehow, Eau des Délices manages to remain fresh and sparkly. It is very refreshing and I love to wear it in days when I miss summer, or when I feel stressed and I need something happy to uplift my mood. The only bad thing is that Eau des Délices does not last very much on my skin... but maybe it is because happiness comes in small portions, isn't it?

The opening of this is masc leaning with the lemon, orange, and tangerine being most prominent, followed by a heavy hand of neroli and some powdery lavender. The dry down is heavily musky with some herbal patchouli and grounding oakmoss. It’s a simple composition of an herbal citrus.

This all the fresh zestiness you want from a cologne with quadruple the lasting power. This green, invigorating fragrance will suit anyone and is perfect for slicing through the sultry heat of summer. Definitely a suits-everyone fragrance.

Citrus and neroli bomb, with a very smooth drydown that is only a little bit mossy. Green, fresh, invigorating, like classic 4711. Like Neroli Portofino, but a little more herbal.
