Osmanthe Liu Yuan

For me, opening is very apricot forward and it has a sparkling quality to it, which makes it very uplifting and refreshing. I’m generally not a fan of overly sweet smells, but green notes and white florals balance this one nicely. On a dry down, it gets more earthy, with iris and leather accords pushing forward. I found Osmanthe Liu Yuan exceptionally well balanced and perfect for a spring day. On me it smells very natural and lasts about 4 hours, with medium silage that becomes more close to skin on the dry down. I found the smell to be quite feminine and my husband loves it on me. I would like it to be longer lasting, but if the smell would be more intense, I probably wouldn’t like it so much, so I’m happy with it as it is.

This is so charming! I took a risk on this one and ordered it blind after reading a lot of positive reviews and being a lover of osmanthus scents. The risk paid off in this case as I loved it immediately: it's very apricot forward (which I adore!), and the leather notes blended with the fruity and floral notes give this a smoothness and depth elevating it to a fragrance far more substantial and interesting than your average 'fruity floral.' Osmanthe Liu Yuan is the perfume equivalent of a fuzzy white fabric.: it's soft, pure and delicate. My only issue is I have to spray quite a lot for it to project, but this is perfect as an everyday scent. Wonderful offering from a really intriguing house! And the bottle?? Sooo cute!!

I’ve taken a break from perfume shopping or buying samples because I’m broke and only really have access to Sephora and Nordstrom to try and sample perfume. But this perfume that I tried at a scent bar in LA made me spark my excitement for perfume again. I never really like Osmanthus because I associate it with this really heavily floral tea that makes my head hurt. But in a perfume it smells vaguely like peach and floral but not in an inoffensive way. I literally sprayed myself with this after I left the shop because it smelled so good.

Opens powdery with bright, sparkling florals. Some smoky leather underneath, verging on antique wood varnish - very mild and definitely in the background. After a few minutes that becomes stronger and muskier - the smell of an old antique furniture shop with cheerful jazz playing, and the airy scent of trees drenched in apricot blossoms drifting in through the open windows. For days when you need the quiet, warm optimism of someone who has been through a lot but still smiles at a new sunrise. Unisex, amazing sillage and longevity on me.

This comes on strong for me, which I like. (I don't pussyfoot around). Largely smells of osmanthe and apricot. The musk and leather hold it in place a good long while on my skin, which is a welcome surprise, seeing that most seemed to find it moderate. It seems wonderful for spring, which it is right now, and maybe even better once the weather gets a little warmer, although it might be a little too sweet for really hot wealthy. That apricot is syrupy.

This is my favorite parfum from Le Jardin Retrouvé . Fresh citrus initial notes, but fortunately, just a few minutes later it reveals an enveloping breath of white flowers. What I like most is the drying moment, suede, iris, musk. Adore! I would say that in this fragrance there is something elusive from the famous Cuir de Russie, but more feminine and contemporary. it doesn't last very long time on my dry skin,unfortunately

This is so beautiful! I was looking for a fragrance with prominent osmanthus and apricot notes. And this is exactly what I wanted. The sweet florals with the juicy apricots are blended together seamlessly. The leather is in the background for me giving it some depth. And the iris gives a powdery nuance that surrounds the notes in an ethereal bubble. I am loving this!

Very, very pretty osmanthus fragrance. I love this. The leather is not prominent on my skin, and I don't get any animalics. I get a musky, lush, apricoty floral fragrance. The other florals add a richness to the osthmanthus, making almost voluptuous. I have Ormonde Jane's osthmanthus and Daim Blonde, and am planning to add this to my collection as well.

Airy, slightly sweet, slightly floral, slightly fruity. Feels effortless, yet lasts at least 13 hrs on my skin. The osmanthus–stone fruit–new white leather combo is super sexy. I am sad to say it reads as a bit femme to me, but that won’t stop me from wearing and enjoying it as a bearded dude!

I wanted to get an osmanthus perfume to be able to enjoy the scent all year long. After careful consideration, I picked the Osmanthe Liu Yuan. I found it performs very differently depending on where I spray it so don't make the same mistake as I did and don't judge too quickly: On my skin 1/10 On clothes 3/10 On hair 10/10 First of all, straight from the bottle, it smells exactly like I want it to. On my skin, entirely different story. The first 15 or so seconds, I get apricot, currant and bergamot. Sparkling black currant cider for a few minutes. Next 2-3 hours: Intense leather smelling it close up, no considerable sillage. Then a little bit of green leaves. What I smell all the way through is some powdery iris. The iris and the green leaves are very very faint after the 4 hour mark. As I may be kind of scent blind due to mostly going to niche beast mode scents that will even outlast the laundry sometimes, I asked for second opinions. My partner stated that all he smells is lots of leather polish and baby powder. My friend said the scent is barely noticeable unless she smells directly on my skin and says she detects mostly citrus, grass and leather. This is very disappointing to me, as when I smell the sprayer of the bottle, it really is the osmanthus perfume of my dreams. Usually I do not have an issue with scents not developing properly on my skin as I barely ever sweat and have very normal skin. Not dry, not oily, not acidic. On my clothes, it smells a lot like apricot and leather, which I like a lot more than on skin, but it lacks complexity and sillage. I would have to put my shirt over my face to smell it. On my hair, on the other hand it develops amazing sillage that lasts for several hours. The smell is intoxicating and very very gorgeous. It has a similar vibe like your hair smells after a trip to an expensive hair salon, mixed with the scent of autumn fruit, foliage and - fragrant evening osmanthus. Perfect! While I'm not a fan of spraying my hair to not dry it out too much, the smell is just as irresistible as straight from the bottle. I really wanted to make it work and I am very glad that it does work out well on my hair. It may not be an everyday option due to alcohol drying my fine hair out, but surely will be in my rotation. If you get this perfume, try around to get different results on different chemical bases.

A bubbly, light, remarkably happy fragrance, that starts out with a basket of sparkling flowers and a lusciously sweet natural smelling apricot. This first stage of the perfume is such a good mood boost. It feels like all the good things in life are dancing around on your skin. As it dries down citrus comes forward, along with a creamy musky jasmine. It’s still very light but it loses some of that remarkable effervescence from the top. The dry down, commencing literally probably an hour to an hour and a half after first application, features a spicy citrusy and mild leather. Honestly though this fragrance isn’t about that leather. It’s all about the treble, not the bass. The magical, joyous opening. Projection on Osmanthus Liu Yuan is pretty minimal. It wears close to skin and only lasts a few hours, but it’s worth respraying for the joyful feeling it brings.

Ethereal, but ephemeral. Effervescent in the opening, like a crisp glass of champagne with apricot nectar. Entirely too soon, however, that energetic, sparkling water-fruit opening fades into almost nothingness. Even though that bright opening is gone too soon, it leads into a pleasant, somewhat shampoo-like middle on my skin for most of its life. Everyone seems to be smelling more leather in this than I do - maybe there's the slightest hint of a soft, buffed suede, but it's not central to this fragrance - and I don't find it powdery or smell the jasmine at all. Eventually, this ends up being something of a waxy, dull musk on me, though the shampoo vibe gives it a clean girl, your-skin feeling. Easily the best of the Le Jardin Retrouvé scents I have sampled, it's just a pity that its longevity and projection are so minimal. 7.5/10.

Nice osmanthus scent. Reminds me a bit Fleur d'Osmanthus by Roger&Gallet that my mom used to wear a lot during Spring and Summer. I think that's why I bought this. Not normally a perfume I would buy but it reminds me my mom. It's very well made though. It has a surprising lasting power (for a fruity-flowery perfume) and the quality is very high. I can smell most of the notes - the citrus, osmanthus, the apricot. I live in the US and ordered from France a small 15ml bottle. Got it in less than a week. Well done Le Jardin Retrouvé !

It is no doubt a pleasant scent. Very optimistic and feel-good fragrance. Clearly recognizable apricot (or osmathus), leather is not that prominent, but still detectable. Longevity good, sillage also - goes into the room. Although I enjoy it and will probably use up my 15 ml bottle before this summer comes, I can't stop thinking it smells like a Pantene shampoo or an apricot Avon body spray. A bit basic.

I enjoyed this one! This is a rugged, worn in leather, paired with a light and airy, slightly musky, osmanthus. The apricot here is very prominent in a fuzzy, fruity and surprisingly dry way, which I think works with the leather pairing. It’s smoky, floral, and has hints of creaminess thanks to a sweet jasmine. This is a well done scent!

this opens with osmanthus, apricot and leather. immediate association with daim blond as that's the only other apricot/leather i've tried, though they are different. the fruits are a bit sweet and the leather is the drier leather, not suede. i get some more florals after it's been on skin awhile. very pretty!

It smelled nice on paper but on my skin it reads a little old lady like. Floral but without any of the peach and apricot.

Definitely floral. I get whiffs of creamy floral that could be very likeable. Unfortunately to me it reminds me of scented plastic aroma beads. Very linear and boring, and just a bit nausea inducing.

I was hoping this could be something I might get my girl, so I sampled it. Honestly repulsive. Very soda/jolly rancher peach that is way too sweet and dominant, but also rendered a bit acrid by the leather and apricot. Big time scrubber that had me happy it wasn't a fixative-heavy fragrance. I spent a couple hours trying to ponder and understand it, but it just kept turning my stomach, quite literally. Not just a "not for me" unisex. I wouldn't want to touch or be near my girl if she wore it.

kind of just smells like worn shoes. everything i tried from le jardin retrouve overpromises and fails to deliver, but this is the worst to me

I actually have a certain fascination with peach accords. When the note is handled badly, the resulting perfume will often smell like a horrible concentrated fruit juice and you end up with something cheap smelling and rather crass. When presented correctly though, peach can be quite emotive and is able to either unveil itself as being bright and youthful, or alternatively as melancholic, creating a sense of longing. Indeed, one of L'Artisan Parfumeur's latest releases, À Fleur de Pêche achieved the latter result quite beautifully with a similar combination of florals to Osmanthe Liu Yuan. This particular perfume, being – as the name suggests – focused on a bright osmanthus accord trends towards the youthful, but a great deal of care has clearly been taken by the perfumer, Moutte? to ensure that the perfume sits appropriately next to the rest of the house's 'classical' repertoire. With regard to the wearing experience, the top notes - in particular the blackcurrant to my nose – spring off your wrist joyfully when first applying. Whilst they're full of life, however, the soft leather accord generated by the osmanthus serves to provide appropriate shade to proceedings. It's truly excellent work. After this point, the perfume seems to change form at will. Sometimes the osmanthus accord shapeshifts to become a ripe peach whilst, at other times, the composition can take on a mossy inflection akin to Moutte's first creation for the house, Mousse Arashiyama. Not content with just those two, however, my nose also interprets the ingredients as being akin to a salted suede leather and as a clean 'shampoo' accord. This final scent starts to reveal itself more as the perfume dries down and begins to remind me of Serge Luten's Nuit de Cellophane – another well made osmanthus-based composition (from another French house, no less!). This being said, Uncle Serge's effort, unfortunately, lacks of the complexity of the Retrouvé release. My overall impression of the perfume is that it straddles the border between traditional and modern very cleverly without resorting to an over-dose of modern sugary synthetics and somehow manages to be both innocent and wistful at the same time. I'm not certain if that was the brief (although it would make sense if that was requested by the house), but it certainly ticks all the appropriate boxes. Superb stuff.

The opening of Osmanthe Liú Yuán is indeed a very long and lingering dry-green note of black currant. Perhaps this is meant to represent something like the introspective clarity of cool morning air, ...before the rich floral delights of the garden rise up in the summer heat. No. It just smells like far too much black currant in a perfume promising osmanthus and other blossoms. The bitter greenness of the currant note also lingers interminably, polluting all the notes that follow. I truly adore the smell of osmanthus, ...and this fragrance just gives too little of it, and too late. There are so many better choices out there. Perhaps something more like an osmanthus soliflore. Also it must be stated that the leathery nuance of osmanthus is only a subtle aspect of the natural flower. It does not benefit from being exaggerated by an actual leather accord. One might enhance a leather focussed perfume with an additional osmanthus note, ...but not nearly so much an osmanthus-led floral perfume with an additional leather note. The deep drydown is the best part, ....but only because, having abandoned all hope of encountering a promised garden of voluptuous blooms, I've become resigned to a lingering patina of soft leather and wood. However, I will add that I do enjoy the way Le Jardin Retrouve promotes classical gardens to market their scents. I always enjoy visiting traditionally styled Chinese gardens, but have never before much paid attention to the enchanting Lingering Garden, or Liú Yuán. I'll have to visit it some day, ...if I ever find myself in Suzhou.

I love osmanthus note, in that pretty typical construct Osmanthe Yunnan or Osmanthus TDC have - soft apricot skin, quiet osmanthus and gentle suede. That one in not like that - osmanthus here is bright and loud, similar to one in Nuit de cellophane, leather is quite rough and masculine, similar to leather in brand's Cuir de russie perfume. New view on osmanthus to me for sure, but still personally I find the notes a bit out of harmony.

A perfect balance of apricot and leather that makes a great choice for spring. A fruity floral and also a gourmand and also a leather, and yet it comes together perfectly. Lasting power is pretty good at nearly five hours. Despite not being a Yuri Gutsatz creation, it still fits in well with the brand's traditional classic feel, but with a modern twist that's sure to be a crowd pleaser. Bravo to Maxence Moutte!

Fruity floral done exceptionally well. I received a sample and will be purchasing. It’s just beautiful and light, not too sweet, playful and possibly the only fruity floral I will own as I don’t like a lot of modern overly sweet synthetics. I like this brand I just wish they lasted a little longer but I guess that’s what re spraying is for.

A power floral opening, peachy apricot at the heart, soft touch of barely there leather. Dries to a typical white musk. It’s pretty but the florals here are too much for me- I prefer a peachy apricot scent like l’eau scandaleuse. Warmer, less screaming and more of a slow burn. I do like this house a lot but this one is not for me.

Uplifting. Apricot and white flowers, out of the shower fresh but with intense floral notes that stay radiating for a couple of hours. Very feminine, clean, charming osmanthus scent. Linear, no evolution no complexity. Ideal for the work place, I don't think anyone could complain about this scent.

This perfume is a masterpiece. It is so good that I want to bathe in it. It's a pity it does not radiate and last long, which is why I find myself yearning for it and re-spraying it multiple times a day when I wear it. Amazingly fresh and wearable. Try it!

I am not getting fruity floral gourmand. The leather is strong for me. Maybe some of what I'm smelling is apricot, which isn't a super sweet fruit. Not a love for me, was hoping for something brighter.
