Coriandre 39 Mexico

I don’t keep up with the le labo world at all but knew vaguely that the city exclusives, usually shrouded in mystery for those who aren’t jet setters, are finally in store Aug-Sept for purchase - so the cost of my sample was quite a shock! I didn’t think twice though before picking up a little vial of this. Intoxicating on first smell, freshly chopped cilantro stems and a squeeze of lime sure but oddly I’m reminded of fresh plaster like in new construction, sort of chalky and earthy, I absolutely love this smell and have never thought it could be captured in the form of a perfume. I didn’t make this connection until after reading reviews on here but there’s a resemblance to fig perfumes as well (have to make the distinction because I have no idea what real figs smell like!), it’s the same sort of greeny effervescence as Prada’s infusion de figue for instance. Unfortunately the dry down (vague pleasant muskiness) is a total bore, which I wouldn’t mind but for the absurd price tag. I’d love a bottle but not with my budget - maybe as a souvenir years and years and years later if I ever make it to CDMX....I’ve always wanted to see Teotihuacan

New Le Labo Coriandre 39 has arrived and I thought I'd give my thoughts on it. Honestly I wasn't expecting to enjoy this one as I heard it being described as a herbal version of the matcha and I was not a fan of that release. This one on the other hand I enjoy a lot. I think anyone who enjoys herbal garden type scents will love this one. I wouldn't describe it purely as cilantro... Instead it kind of just feels like you're walking through a large herbal garden on a summer day. This is a super fresh scent. After getting blasted with green herbs in the opening it slowly starts revealing a hint of sweetness towards the dry down with a bit of lime and florals. This combination almost feels like sweetened black tea which is perhaps why people compared it to the matcha. Overall I think anyone can wear this fragrance. I really dislike cilantro in food and cooking and definitely was a bit worried before smelling it but in the end it feels like a super fresh, safe and pleasant summer green scent.

Tried to avoid smelling this like it was some sort of incubus of disease because city exclusives prices are criminal and I really love coriander fragrances like De Bachmakov and Diptyque’s Coriandre candle. But the universe has a way of messing with me and I ended up smelling it on my hairstylist and the dry down on him was lovely, too lovely for me to not try it on myself. Off to Le Labo I went after close to a decade of not being compelled by any of their newer creations. The opening is sensorial, powerful, almost too powerful lime and aldehydes then something pleasantly minty comes through giving way to that dry down of powder, green florals and musk. Delightful, I walked out of Le Labo with a small bottle. This reminds me of a softer, less harsh Green from Byredo, sadly discontinued (I think), with a very similar powdery green floral dry down which I love though the Le Lebo is more resilient.

It's unique! It smells like an artisanal cocktail made with tequila or gin. The opening is super aldehydic and fizzy - almost smells like opening a cold can of lime flavored seltzer water. It's also peppery and green. A tad soapy as well. I think I get a tiny bit of rose in the background. Reminds me a lot of Aqua Media Cologne Forte by Maison Francis Kurkdjian, though this one has a dressier, more nightime feel while remaining extremely fresh, sparkly, and green.

Herbal Thé Matcha is correct! The dry down is very similar to the creaminess of thé matcha, just add in some herbs. Not sure it’s worth the price, though. Will continue to sample and see.

Did you just spill your mojito on your wrist? Nah, you boozy sloppy fool, that’s Le Labo’s latest creation, Coriandre 39, which is the new City Exclusive for Mexico City. This fragrance is a summery cocktail of greens in a bottle. Unlike several other Le Labo scents that pull a bait-and-switch and don’t smell like their namesakes, this one accurately opens with a fresh blast of cilantro (or coriandre in French) and a healthy spritz of lime. Coriandre 39 understands the assignment. It’s quite linear throughout, with the spotlight squarely on that cilantro and lime combination, although there are some additional notes of other herbal greens, a little bit of aldehydes, and a smidge of water. That supposed musk note, though? No, really, where is it? Several people have stated it’s similar to Thé Matcha 26, and I don’t get that at all. Whereas Thé Matcha 26 is a spice bomb that sears my nostrils to hell and back, this is a green, aromatic and herbal citrus scent that’s so fresh it almost smells like it could be used to disinfect your kitchen. I’m willing to bet a few pesos that your fondness for this fragrance will depend entirely on your tolerance for cilantro, which I, personally, love. Coriandre 39 smells like a wet hot Mexican summer, spent exploring Aztec ruins. You can vividly imagine a jungle canopy overhead, which casts dappled patterns on the forest floor and filters the sunlight to spare you from the sweaty, oppressive heat. You descend deeper into the dense underbrush, immersing yourself in a sea of green. The winding path, overgrown with thick vines and large ferns, leads you to an ancient Aztec civilization, which is slowly being overtaken by the jungle as nature and history intertwine and battle for prosperity. You climb a forgotten staircase, and ascend into the weathered old stone walls, awaiting whatever lost artifacts, chambers and moss-covered secret passageways are hidden inside. Or - perhaps more relatable - Coriandre 39 reminds me of fanning myself in Barcelona’s Placa Reial during a humid summer, while staring at the palm trees and finishing off my fifth caipirinha of the afternoon: quite citrusy, even more green, and a whole lot of boozy. Best for summer days and nights, and entirely unisex with monster longevity, the only place where I get lost in Coriandre 39’s jungle of scent is its extreme price tag. Is it worth the sky-high City Exclusives price point of $375 or $535, just to smell like you crushed some cilantro between your fingers and misted yourself with lime water? Ehhhh, most people would probably say cilantr-NO. In five words or less: Fresh green herbal essences.

Coriandre 39 is a beautiful blend of soapy-smooth wooden bamboo from a Japanese sauna with zesty green crushed flower stems mixed with pink peppery spice. The opening is fresh green fig-leaf, which reminds me of Ichnusa as it’s so green in the start. Later it develops a clean, soapy lather from the aldehydes which reminds me of the heather/ferny oakmoss of Arcadia. Coriandre 39 remains dry, herbaceous and aromatic with an Atlas cedar type of woodiness that reminds me of Vetiver Imperiale as it’s so pink peppery. The dry-down becomes very similar to Le Bois Glacé by Moncler. Interestingly Coriandre 39 loses some greenery as it becomes a pink pepper type of vetiver that’s spicy-woody with a dry/woody sauna nuances complete with white-hot smoulder coals. I think that if you love the dry-down of Coriandre 39 but it’s just too expensive, just get Le Bois Glacé. The dry-down of Coriandre 39 and Eucalyptus 20 share the same hinoki wood base. Eucalyptus 20 is a smokier, black pepper version, whereas Coriandre 39 is a pink pepper with zingy mojitos. In short, for me, Coriandre 39 is a cedar wood sauna surrounded by a lush green forest in the summer rain.

I know everyone is saying this is basic, but it is surprisingly my favorite of all of the City Exclusives I have sampled. Maybe it's because it is so different from my typical fragrance selections or just that I love the journey from the opening to the creamy mid/dry down. I do get some similarities to The Matcha the biggest one being they both have a phantom fig note to me that I actually enjoy as a fig hater. It reminds me more of a jungle than a land locked city. I'm glad I actually have a trip planned to Mexico city in a few months so I don't need to rush to purchase during City Exclusive Season. I'll bring my extra sample with me on the trip and if it sticks I'll possibly get a travel while I'm there. But only if the city moves me because these prices are absolutely outrageous. Skin Test: 9.4/10 Edit: I sprayed this again and looked at the prices (forgot they were even higher than typical Le Labo) and absolutelyfuckingnot.

Pleasant and fresh! The coriander for me was trying very hard to stick out but the aldehydes/soapy notes always got in the way. It's like a tug of war, or the two concepts of the scent trying to upstage the other. You have to get real close to pick the coriander up clearly but you do understand that there's a dry herbal texture throughout the scent. If the aldehydes and coriander are the two lead actors, the lime is definitely backstage quietly doing its best to hold the scent together. Not as zingy and vibrant as I imagined coming into it but it does what it wanted to do, so I'm kinda judging it based on that intent. Absolutely not photorealistic in its entirety except upon close inspection where it finally clicks that it's coriander. I do like it but it's okay! And I'm not sure I'd spend this much for okay on my collection/rotation of scents

I have grown to like this scent, I first smelled it last year during the city exclusive month and I was a bit offput but that changed this year when I gave it a second chance. To me it's still not an incredible fragrance but I don't dislike it and wouldn't be too mad if the person next to me had it on. It's an interesting green scent, sharp and herby but has these soft florals and musk which makes sure you're not just at the produce section looking at herbs. It's a cool scent that I just don't think is for me but someone who likes sharp spicy scents may find a signature with this one. Scent: 7.5/10 Performance: 6/10 Price: 6/10 Overall: 6.5/10

This is a gorgeous scent and my preferred category (everyday, clean& fresh) but it smells way too familiar. There are hundreds of similar fragrances with this profile out there. I'm a Le Labo fan and I'm Mexican so of course I want this but given the huge price tag, I can't help but say that this is just too basic (not in a bad way). If you love The Yulong, Histoires d'Orangers, The Matcha 26, JM Basil & Neroli, you'll love this but it's definitely not needed. Easily unisex & I'm sure it'll be a great hit but as I mentioned: 💸💸 ... Sigh... Maybe I'll purchase next year. Or the following, or when I visit Mexico City 😉

Very expensive and isn't new to either the market (obviously, since the market is huge) or Le Labo (sigh). Opening it fresh and sweet. I'm not sure if it IS coriandre, but it smells refreshing! It is very similar to The Matcha 26 on my skin, without the frankly annoying woody facets that make The Matcha 26 a nuisance to wear sometimes. Over time, Coriandre 39 gets sweeter and fainter. It reminds me of some tea perfumes from small companies, which is neither a compliment nor insult. I just do not think it is worth City Exclusive prices, because they have something so similar that is available year-round and cheaper.

Slightly above average. Good, but not great. Ceder vibe without the wood, as strange as that sounds. Vegetable soap. Seed husks. I like it but I don't love it. Whoever green lit this to be sold as a 500 dollar city exclusive is out of touch with reality. I refuse to believe this was focus group tested and the data supported this conclusion. The fragrance isn't bad - I actually like and wear soapy fragrances. It's just uninspired and feels like they mailed in the effort. Scent 70/100

Like this more than I expected, it opens with a green cut grass stemone smell and transitions to a citrusy musk. Usually I hate the cut grass smell but isn’t too overwhelming and synthetic, and layers with everything else well. Surprisingly strong, lasts over 6 hours with a strong projection almost room filling, but still nonetheless is pretty overpriced for what it is in the end.

Extremely pricy for what it offers. Do not get me wrong, I love the notes and I think it's a really pleasant perfume - fresh, zesty and very wearable. It lasted only a few hours on my skin unfortunately and the drydown is very basic and smells common. The other city exclusives lasted a bit longer for me. I am glad I was able to sample it though!

As someone who consciously stays away from citrusy fragrances, I received this in a surprise mix of samples without looking it up beforehand and actually really liked it. A soapy jubilee of lime and green notes. I'd even say this is 'giving' a fresh, bitter matcha

Like cutting vegetables for a tomatillo salsa, and then cozying up to an old book. Sounds like a plan to me! Very green herby scent (grassy notes, and cilantro) followed by a hint of musk. One of Le Labo's most versatile daytime fragrances.

To my nose and on my skin I feel a flanker of Phylosykos. This is fig to my nose 100%. You can get a fig style fragrance for a fraction of this 500$ scent. I love le labo but for a city exclusive I expect it to be extraordinary!

this is thé matcha 26 but minus the creaminess. It smells more fresh. To me thé matcha 26 can be a bit headache inducing but this one doesn’t seem to have that effect on me. Is it worth the CE prices? Probably not.
