Church Bells

Church Bells is a beautiful and fitting name for this perfume. This scent has crossed my path before in life. It smells like church honey candles when they burn and the wax melts. Upon spraying — the scent of smoldering incense, a thin wisp of smoke. It's here briefly, for a minute, and then it meets frankincense in a meadow of wildflowers, where bees collect pollen and, without flying away, right there begin to build honeycombs and make honey. The scents of everything happening mix together, and that very unified aroma of burning wax candles appears. The honey has a bitterness; it's thick, but the fragrance is transparent, cooling the nose. The perfume isn't sweet at all, it smells very realistic, yet, to my taste, still perfumey. All the notes are woven together so beautifully and naturally, with no "chemical" feel. After a deep, long opening, the fragrance gradually begins to fade. The flame of the melted candles dies out, the scent becomes more and more transparent, just slightly smoky, and transports me from the flower meadow into a large, empty, cold room with stone walls and high vaults, 8 hours after everything happened. I adore frankincense, churches, and all that; for me, this fragrance is a treasure. P.S. It smells of mysticism, ritual, secret rites. The tears of the grieving and forgiveness — this is what resurrection smells like. As if I died, and now — I am resurrecting — that is the atmosphere this scent creates in my imagination.

A pretty meditative scent, but sweet(ish) at the same time... Based on the name I thought I'd find something like church incense, but instead I'm facing something dusty, honeyed and woody. When I later saw the palo santo, I wasn't surprised at all. I've enthusiastically burned both palo santo and frankincense incense at home, but their smoky burnt feel isn't in this. It's more like the raw form of them. As it approaches the drydown, it turns more into honey. The honey is a touch animalic and the dark, black kind. These types of honey notes are the kind I prefer the most. A pleasant, atmospheric, restful scent. Tags(s): meditative, honeyed, woody, touch of smoke
