Blanc Sada

Milky-chalky-dusty iris and rice powder. That's the shortest summary. This is one of the rare fragrances where I went straight to a full bottle after finishing my sample, and I'm burning through the bottle fast too... because it's that lovely. And by lovely here I mean seriously lovely :) The scent is both cold and warm, but I could never call it sweet. There's a faint touch of it, but it's not on the scary side. There's definitely heliotrope in there to my nose, or at least a note that gives that impression. And maybe some violets too (not listed). I'm also picking up both a hay-like dryness and a resinous woody aroma. These are supporting elements, but they pull the fragrance slightly into darker territory, because this dusty quality also kind of evokes a slightly musty old house with a cobwebby basement. Still, the main event is a dusty powder-spilled makeup bag and the feel of a lipstick left open with the cap off. The rice creates this hard-to-describe umami sensation here. It's like you want to lick the powder off your face but you know you shouldn't... A secret desire. It's also consistent with many milk-note perfumes I've smelled. It has a different angle compared to the iris | orris | iris + violet fragrances I've smelled so far. The fact that it's this unique drew me in even more. I wasn't particularly moved by the event it's named after (interesting as it may be!), but I've always loved the Japanese atmosphere, and the porcelain-faced geishas too. Japanese oshiroi type of powder... mmhh. Note: I couldn't really pick up the lychee. Despite sniffing and focusing multiple times, there's no tart fruity aspect for me. The opening really is makeup wipes, but my imagination reads it as a smart, almost cinematic choice. That’s my ‘hear me out’. What follows is an intoxicating, quietly curated, restrained luxury. One that keeps drawing me in for hours. I feel enveloped in cleanliness that at first seems unquestionable, but carries some secrets behind all that powder. You may never know them, but you’ll keep coming back for another whiff. Just like a devoted guest would keep coming back to a geisha in hopes of basking in her presence. That’s how masterful the storytelling here is. I read the short-lived wipe-y opening as imagining Sada removing her heavy rice power makeup at the end of the day. She wouldn’t have had baby wipes back in the 1930s, but let’s say her story being told by this fragrance in modern day ties things together narratively. It all begins with her in the present, her spirit taking off the rice powder mask and ‘coming clean’ more candidly than ever before. Then, she starts going back to when it all transpired, taking us along. When I learned about the inspiration behind Blanc Sada, I was momentarily weary of it being yet another morbidly curious cash grab off the back of a macabre story. Luckily, this creation is yet another proof that Bertrand Duchaufour leads his compositions with empathy and deep understanding. The focus of the scent is on Sada’s ambiance — immaculate cleanliness, soft steps on tatami, restrained femininity, piercing intelligence, not blood. The perfumed, intense entanglement called ‘love’ by some before a confusingly tragic end. Apart from being addictive and full bottle worthy to me, Blanc Sada is also a narrative masterpiece and an educational wink at anyone willing to go down a rabbit hole. I loved the entire experience.

Blanc Sada is a powdery Iris that has been stripped of any softness or sentimentality or nostalgia. The powdery notes feel sharp and stern rather than cushiony or reminiscent of grandma’s dressing table powder. The perfume this most reminds me of is Iris Poudre, but it’s a very minimal take on that one. It has a similar structure down to the green notes that come out mid way through its life on the skin. Unlike Iris Poudre though the green notes in Blanc Sada are not tender or fresh. Everything in this perfume has a steely rendering. I love it for that. It’s uncompromising. It’s not in the territory of Iris Silver Mist though. That one remains the dominatrix of Iris Fragrances. Blanc Sada is far more wearable than that. If Iris Poudre is a live Iris dipped in snow flakes, Blanc Sada is an Iris that has been completely dipped in sterling silver. And Iris Silver Mist is cast in melted down switch blades. Blanc Sada wears close to skin unless you spray a lot of it, and lasts about 6 hours start to finish.

I just bought a bottle after trying it at an event and going through my sample. It’s one of the most interesting and intriguing fragrances I have tried in a while. It has a duality of powderyness, clean vibe, sweetness and soft yet enduring longevity. It’s a more intimate fragrance but I can smell it on me for at least 6 hours and it envelops me in this beautiful, calming bubble. It’s a love for me. One of the best rice note fragrances o have ever tried.

This is one of the prettiest musk scents I have tried lately. It definitely has the powdery, laconic qualities as mentioned. There’s a slight sweetness which is lovely. Long lasting, never overbearing, office friendly. Beautiful 🫶

The best powdery fragrance ever created, in my opinion, as a powder notes hater. This has the potential to become a daily wear signature scent for me. Absolutely gorgeous, and it gets even better in the dry down.

Beautiful , elegant, onglasting but not overpowering

Thankfully this didn't disappoint. I mentioned in my Dorian's Spleen "review" that it was one of the two fragrances from the L'Entropiste line that I really liked on paper and looked forward to wearing. Well, this is the second fragrance and I wasn't disappointed. I'm very picky about iris, depending on the fragrance I can find it a bit nauseating, especially when it's the overly waxy type, but Blanc Sada instead leans into a very soft but extremely powdery iris with mild resinous and lactonic undertones. It smells very clean, I almost felt like I had covered myself in baby powder, but I mean this in the best possible way. Something I was worried about was this potentially being too feminine, but to my great surprise I find this to be a perfectly unisex scent. I think my skin darkened the scent enough compared to how it was on paper, which removed that "feminine edge", and even my mom and my sister agreed that this wasn't a feminine leaning scent. I'm quite relieved that this didn't disappoint me like Dorian's Spleen did, and although the remaining five L'Entropistes weren't much to my liking (especially Dawn Whispers), this wear rekindled my interest in the house. Seeing how both Dorian's Spleen and Blanc Sada changed so much from paper to skin I'm very interested in giving the remaining fragrances a try, as for all I know they might change for the better and I might end up really liking them. Performance could be a bit underwhelming for the price but I don't mind it too much. Projection is moderate leaning towards intimate, especially after the first 15 minutes or so. Sillage is also moderate and persistent, but nowhere near as much as Dorian's Spleen which seemed to project decently well for 12 hours. Can't say about longevity because I can't pick it up on skin too easily anymore but I do smell it in the air around me quite a bit now, around 6 hours into my wear. It definitely won't be like Dorian's Spleen which was still easily detectable 18 hours after spraying, but it's not bad at all.

The concept felt a bit quirky and gimmicky to me. Still, I generally enjoy iris and powdery fragrances, so I had some hope for this one. I was a bit wary of the lychee note from the start. In a Yt video: "L’Entropiste Explained: Bertrand Duchaufour Breaks It Down" , around the six-minute mark, Duchaufour explains that the lychee accord is meant to evoke the severed genitals she carried around in a bag after mutilating them. For me, the scent doesn't come across as particularly bold or exciting. It's fine, but definitely not one of the house's highlights. It opens up strong but quickly settles into a skin scent on me, which does often happen with powdery fragrances. I can pick up traces of lychee, and the composition is very dry, here's almost no sweetness to it. It feels refined, and I actually like that. The powder turns slightly sour on my skin, witch is not entirely pleasant, but it does give the fragrance a some character. Compared to the rest of L'Entropiste's lineup, I find the others far more exciting.

Out of the three samples I bought from this house, Blanc Sada is definitely my favorite. (The others were Semence Douce and Jodhpur 6am.) Blanc Sada immediately reminded me of Soavissima or Alba by Profumum Roma — I always forget which is which because they’re so similar! It has that soft makeup-powder vibe, a clean and polished feel that just smells... put together. There’s something delicate and innocent about it — maybe too innocent for me which is really interesting since the perfume was built around the story of a geisha Sada Abe who killed her husband. It definitely leans more feminine, but that’s never stopped me from wearing a scent I like. Anyways at the moment I will test it more with my sample and see if it's full bottle worthy.

Just fell in love with this one, the rice podwer, the iris, the milk, it's everything I was looking for. It's both a classic iris and someting else. Luckily, 0 litchi for me juste that delicious iris and rice; it's nice : no leather or smoke. The name was what drew me and looking for the story behind it made me laugh a bit, like it's a bit morbid but in a good way. I'm charmed. Edit : I sample it and... it gets sugary on me, so I get the mochi and it's not really what I was expecting. Still smells good and long lasting for a powdery scent. I feel that if it was dryer and less sweet it would have give it more character.

This is so effortless and gorgeous! I totally get the tatami note - it's a very natural rice straw fragrance with a soft, milky powderiness. Lactonic scents can be very hit or miss with me as they can make me feel nauseated, but this is done lovely. It's not sugary, or too sweet and it's just elegant. Smells green in the opening. I don't get any litchi personally. Dry down amps up the creaminess - my only wish was it was a stronger, powdery iris (but this is probably a very me take as I adore suffocating levels of powder). Not sure if full bottle worthy... i'll get through my 10ml sample and see how I feel later.

I perfectly recognize all the notes listed above, and I like it. It's simple and elegant fragrance, very easy to wear if you like powdery musky scents with earthy notes of iris root and violet. I could wear it with pleasure, but unfortunately I already have a very similar scent with added sweet lemon-almond cookie note on top (which is nice) - Eclix by Tiziana Terenzi. If you have a chance to try it, please do, you will be surprised. And yes, I like TT creation more.

This is my least favorite scent from L'Entropiste. But only because I adore the other ones so much! I actually like this one as well, just a bit less than others. I am not a lover of powdery scents or iris... However, this one is worth experiencing, it is so unusual! I agree with the mochi associations, it's definitely there. If you love subtle powdery milky fragrances, you should try this one!

I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this one. I can say I have not smelled another fragrance like this before -- this is very interesting olfactory art. I find it more art than wearable. It's powdery, sharp, cold, yet also sweet. I can see the mochi comparison others mention, absolutely. I also get some bergamot, or some citrus, that's not listed.

Blanc Sada opens up with a burst of earthy iris which doesn't stay for long and merges with other materials to create a comforting hot sweet milk rice accord. It is a very minimalistic inoffensive powdery perfume, basically a skin scent, leaning slightly more feminine. I will use up and enjoy my sample but for sure won't spend 210 Eur for a 50ml bottle.

Powdery iris/rose combo. The rose here is slightly fruity on top to give that lychee effect. The heart is a powdery and cosmetic iris, it smells a bit like a soft body lotion. It reminds me of La Peau Nue from Celine but "weirder and conceptual".

Very dry Iris. There is no sweetness. Quite sophisticated.

This one is very pretty. I would never pay the kind of coin they are asking for this type of scent but at least it is quite nice. Again though I just expected to be 'wowed' by these and the full 6 fragrance sample set has been quite the let down. :^( Not going to put reviews for the last three but this line up has been a real disappointment over all. :^( So sad.

Really wish this had a more prominent hay note. It would completely save this for me. The sweetness is a bit too baby-powder-style-cloying for me. I like the litchi but it’s not complex enough to yank this into someplace interesting. For the price point it’s a bit dull and unbalanced.

it’s pretty. there’s nothing that i can pick out besides iris and powder. not really special or super appealing, a little bit industrial and the intial spray is kind of screechy

It really does smell like makeup remover.

I’m not sure why no one else is mentioning how green the opening is. The first half hour of this fragrance is milky grass, followed but the sweetest powdery orris that is to die for. I am back and forth with this one because the opening can sometimes be nauseating to me, but the dry down is what I have been searching for when it comes to that cosmetic powdery orris. I find the story attached to the fragrance to be disgusting and bizarre. Sometimes I feel like some of these creatives come off as sex obsessed sadists. For example saying that he chose litchi as a way to reference the murdered mans castrated balls pushed it over the edge of interestingly horror inspired to down right grotesque. Like I would have rather not known that bit.

It's nice but I feel like it lacks a unique voice. I'm reminded of delicately powdered citrus-iris scents like Loewe Man 001, except this has more of a purer iris focus and feels a bit more gentle, more feminine. There's a touch of green to the fine dusting of floral powder, making it feel just a tad sour in a musky way. The beginning had a zingy, effervescent quality but it faded pretty quickly, and I'm afraid the idea behind this one feels well formed only in those opening minutes. It's otherwise a finely powdered fresh iris scent that I admit is pretty, but also a bit forgettable. I do sense the rice note and some things that are lending a mildly wheaty quality, but I'm not sure they're making enough of a difference to stand out.

This is the case when broadening one’s horizons does more harm than good. I first heard aboutthis perfume from one of the youtube bloggers, the pyramid seemed very attractive, right up my street. My second step was to read an essay about it on Fragrantica, about the lady that inspired the creation of this perfume. And then I made my biggest mistake - I did the google search to find out more about the story behind. It was so wrong of me! Wish I had never done that! The less you know, the better

This is almost identical to Montcler Le Solstice. The opening is a powdery iris, but not sweet at all. It has a similar dry, earthy, sour drydown to Le Solstice. It's interesting. Not mind blowing or particularly unique. I have several iris perfumes that are going for the same vibe. Stairway to Heaven from Jul et Mad, also very similar. The bottles are quite visually unappealing to me, too. I'm a fan of symmetry.

This is insanely good. I feel like a lot of houses are chasing this clean, effortless, slightly dull, artificial and muted vibe. Conceptually, this fragrance is made incredibly sound. Vegetal Iris that pairs with rice with strong violet presence and some fruited floral on the very back.

Iris fades in a minute and you are left with rice powder accord which does not smell expensive.

Like falling into a bed made of mochi. Yummy
