#003 San Junipero

San Junipero is perfume number three within L’Envie Parfums fragrance collection. Its fragrance is defined as a floral bouquet of cold and spicy notes. The creative concept comes from a mix of inspirations. The perfumer Fanny Grau had presented an essay with evident notes of juniper and, at the same time, the founder Fábio Ottaiano had watched an episode of the TV series “Black Mirror”, which was called San Junipero. Hence, its name. The composition lists head notes of bergamot, ginger, raspberry, lentisk, and green notes, which pave the way for a floral body with notes of neroli, iris, jasmine Sambac, gardenia from Tahiti, and carnation, on a base of heliotrope, musk, patchouli, and cedar. And what is the lentisk? Also known as mastic, is the gum obtained from the tree of the genus Pistacia Lentiscus (of the pistachio family). It is widely used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and even construction materials, such as varnishes. In perfumery, it is present in more refined creations such as Habanita (Molinard), Solo Atlas (Loewe), Overture (Amouage), Ere (PK Perfumes), among others. Its scent is balsamic and fresh. When touches the skin, the fragrance of San Junipero is floral and delicate, with a lot of evidence for the iris note. At the same time, a medicinal freshness begins to make itself present and a spicy and cold side also emerges. It is an almost alcoholic spiciness, which involves the floral body (as if it were a bell jar), maintaining the beauty of the flowers, but imprisoning any exaggerated or excessively feminine aspect. San Junipero exudes gardenias, iris, and heliotrope and doesn't change much during evolution. Among the three fragrances, I was able to evaluate so far, this is the one that has the most feminine soul, although it is fully shareable. It is also the most differentiated in terms of creativity, although many may associate it with some variant of the Infusion Line, by Prada. Visually, San Junipero repeats the brand's pattern, with minimalist cylindrical bottles, which bring the logo on one side and the name of the perfume on the other. Here, the brown color present in the numbers #001 and #002 gives way to the green color. Before closing, it is worth commenting about the slight woody that appears right at the end of the drying but does not change the result. And performance-wise, San Junipero is lighter and doesn't exude as much, at least on my skin. Durability is good, but you'll likely find yourself sniffing your wrists every now and then, trying to find traces of the fragrance.
