1986 Eclectique

I tend to have good luck with honey scents, and 1986 is no exception. Along with the apple and clove notes, there's something that's just yummy about this, without being overtly gourmand nor autumn-inspired. I'm beginning to quite enjoy davana in fragrance as well, as it adds a fruity note that's naturalistic and interesting. The dusty black pepper note at the beginning is the only aspect I dislike, though it dissipates within about fifteen minutes (and as the temps cool off, it seems to be lessening). After dry down, the warm tobacco comes out, like a high quality cigar. The smokiness is soft and incense-like. Background patchouli stays well-behaved. Eclectique is sweet but not too sweet; it has depth without heaviness. Reminds me a lot of Dolce Amalfi by Xerjoff, but more unisex and without the airy musk aromachemicals. I find it to really suit me as a woman, though it wouldn't feel feminine on a man. Not headache inducing with "just right" strength. I will say that I don't get much of a party vibe from this scent; if anything it reminds me of getting back home after a night out and having a sweet snack.

When I first tried this perfume on Mouette, I thought I would rate this perfume as dislike. Smells of metal and tobacco. The metal is probably from cloves. This gave me the impression that I was in the dentist's waiting room and the person next to me started smoking a sweet cigarette. Very disappointed. I tried it on my skin before tossing it. Wow, it's completely different from the scent in Mouette. where did the cloves go? The top note is a nice assortment of honey and dried fruits. And there's a tobacco smokiness that just doesn't make it sweet and simple. And the cloves are waiting quite far back, giving the scent a three-dimensional effect. And what I like most about this perfume is the scent it leaves on my skin. It smells incredibly good. A bright light gold sparkling scent. I have no idea how it was constructed but it was just beautiful. If there is a perfume with this lingering scent in the middle, I will try to get it by all means. This perfume taught me the dangers of judging by Mouette alone, and the wonderful miracles that can occur when perfume meets the skin.

I'm excited that after so many years of smelling things, i continue to find stuff that is new. This is a unique concoction that is more of an experience than anything else. while this is classified as a green scent, it's certainly not green in the sense of a traditional masculine (oak moss, pine, etc). While there are some green touches, it's only a small part of the story. Whenever i smell something new, i try to compare it to something ive smelled before - sometimes things sell identical, and other times things smell like they could be a 17th cousin. In this case, there are two 17th cousins that i can relate this to: Chanel Egoiste and signature wild (art de parfum). Again - 17th cousins. they share a "feeling" - but certainly dont smell the same. At any rate, i find this to be very enjoyable and transformative through its stages of development. Very good stuff here. 7/10

A bit of a flanker to Duchaufour's 1978 Le Bains Douches, but this one's a touch rowdier; both are excellent variations on the Naxos theme, and deserve to exist. I bought Le Bains Douches, but this seems like the kind of thing where you just want to own both.

This is very nice! A complex sweet and spicy tobacco with some interesting floral and citrusy nuances. For me it also smells quite boozy, something like a liquor made of bitter orange peel and spices. It’s fresh, it’s sweet and it’s bitter. Lovely!

I'm not a fan of sweet scents at all, but Les Bains Guerbois definitely have some really good and pleasant ones. This one is very light, makes me think of my childhood for some reason. Slightly more feminine tho.

Very interesting spicy fragrance, 100% unisex. More for fall and winter. It is a complex and warm scent, I cannot describe the different notes. I can smell tobacco but it is very well blended. Nose Note #270 Kind of goes into the same "Christmas" direction like CK One Shock for Him and Yohji Yamamoto I'm Not Going To Disturb You Homme. I've found all perfumes from this house for $73 each. That's an OK price, but I've also seen them for $140 elsewhere - now that's completely not worth it. There is something "niche" about the smell and I don't like it. I don't feel it's made to please everyone, although it smells a lot like Shock for Him, and even better in a way. Just feels a lot more natural. But there's something about it that's not tuned right. I after a couple of weeks I think I finally know what it is - it's the honey accord. It seriously does smell like real honey. Linden honey. I love honey, but here it's just difficult to handle. For me it's impossible to get used to it. It's an interesting scent, very interesting and unique. Everything about it somehow smells natural. There are a lot of dimensions to this fragrance. They have put so many interesting floral and spicy notes here, but would you wear it daily? Hardly so.

This one just rolled over me in a heavenly cloud. My first impressions were apple, cloves, and honey. So beautiful, so strong. I knew I was smelling something special. The only thing that put me off a little was a hint of something medicinal. But as it mellowed out, and the heart appeared, more golden viscous honey and fragrant honeysuckle replaced that edge with a smoother sweetness. Then the apple became part of a dried fruits melange with added concentration and intensity; and the gorgeous tobacco came on stage and sort of gathered everything else up into it’s arms. As the dry down commences, the honey and tobacco are still the predominant notes, but there is also Amber, musk, and moss. To my taste, this leans a little masculine but anyone can wear it. It would be very sexy on a woman. Probably best in fall and winter, and for evenings unless sprayed lightly since it has pretty intense sillage for at least the first few hours. Lasts 6-7 hours on skin although you’ll get just a trace of it even 12 hours later.

Eclectique opens very fruity and to me quite cinammony. Not personally a fan, I don't think fruity tobaccos are really my thing. Mid becomes a little bit like Naxos minus the lavender, a fragrance I already own, so again, it doesn't really stick out to me. However Electique in it's dry down reminds me of the now discontinued masterpiece euphoria amber gold by Calvin klein (don't let the CK name sway you, this fragrance was far from basic, one of the true inexpensive fragrances that was "niche worthy" even though influencers love to pump that word out to where it's basically lost all meaning). However this has no incense and is smoother and better quality of course and has the added tobacco. A great pickup of mine.

Opening is similar to Acqua di Sale and drydown gives vibe of 40Knots by Xerjoff. I always thought those 2 fragrances have something similar and now here is a perfume that merge them. Otherwise its really nice from my sample, very unisex, tobacco is also present somewhere in the middle. I can imagine this a nice spring summer scent in my rotation

The opening of this is just too bold and brash for me: the apple top note dominates everything and just seem too loud. But as others have said, the drydown is a huge improvement over that as the dozens of other notes come into play--it seems spicier, softer, and more intimate.

A spicy, honeyed tobacco. It's not drenched in honey, or too sweet because there are notes in here that keep it grounded. It's more masculine so I won't wear this, but I would love it on my partner.

Hey man, chill the f*** out! Let's Go out and dance! Maybe it's the name, but even in testing this blind there's an air of playful, fun, don't give a damn, just pour it on me. Yes, it.is sweet, yes it is fruity, but at least that's not all. The long lasting fuzzy warmness gives you a bit of after party chill vibes, let's go get cozy in the cool down lounge. As much as I appreciate this fragrance's non bashful approach, it's just too sweet for me, and I don't go to those kind of places anyway. Looking at the notes it's apple fruity with a bit of green freshness and floral playfulness, while the warm fuzziness sits behind waiting for later in the evening to take center stage. While sweet, I don't pick up honey sweetness, more sugary. And while warm spices make themselves present later, black pepper appears more as a wall flower. Most of the notes you might say you saw last night, but you can't really remember if was last night or the night a week ago, it kinda changes and gets of shuffled in your head anyways. I mean we're here having fun, so don't be such a bore!

I agree with the red tiger balm comparison. This smells like men's toiletries from the 90's. Aftershave, powdery soap, spicy alcohol heavy cologne. It's very traditional and masculine. Might be a nostalgic scent for people who want to remember what their dads or brothers smelled like when they were getting ready.

If you’re a fan of Bertrand Duchaufour’s style, you will absolutely love 1986 Éclectique — his signature is all over this composition. I’m a big fan, so this was an instant like. The opening is a whirlwind of spices, resins, and fruits drizzled with honey — sweet, sparkling, and very pleasant. It’s effervescent in a way that makes you think you’re in for something overwhelming, but the actual wearing experience turns out to be surprisingly mellow, even when you overspray. I recently acquired seven creations from Les Bains Guerbois at once, and this characteristic runs through the entire collection — generous in spirit but never overbearing on skin. 1986 Éclectique is among my favorites of the seven. The dry-down shifts to a rich amber focus, and this is where Duchaufour’s broader fingerprint becomes more noticeable — I catch echoes of Jubilation XXV and several of his creations for Aedes de Venustas. That’s not a criticism; I enjoy when a perfumer has a distinct creative voice that you can follow across houses and decades. Still relatively new in my collection — more thoughts to follow once I’m halfway through my bottle.

1986 Eclectique - the newest from the iconic house and phenomenon, an ode to city light, sparkling conversations, hot and steamy nightlife and the ecstasy that comes with a night out. Vibrant colors all around, cars in the distance, deep stone carved monuments around, a deep ruby red high heel as it emerges from the long black limousine.. 1986 connects with a magnetic flavor to life being enjoyed in its fullest. Fuzzy apple, davana and mandarin on the top, with a deep base that mixes dried fruits, honey, tobacco, amber and musk - the experience is bright and lively in the beginning, but then a boozy, sticky, slightly sweet yet dry tobacco infused scent. I find it beautiful - I enjoy the slight fruitiness that is present throughout, but the drydown is definitely rich with tobacco - and that creates a very certain type of scent profile. A beautiful companion for a fall night out where all eyes are on you - as the night sparks catch the glimpse of your eyes, and as the whiffs of 1986 with its fruity sweetness empower you.

At first spray the clove and apple come through, as others have mentioned. It’s not particularly strong to me. It was initially something reminiscent of an ELdO fragrance, but I can’t put my finger on it. The dry down is enchanting. The honeysuckle, honey, and musk notes really come through. It feels lighter. Kind of watery and translucent. Although it’s quite nice, I can’t decide whether I like this enough to purchase a bottle.

Sorry, this is not so much a review but to say that this is available at Luckyscent. It’s one of many I sprayed on a blotter & really liked the opening but I think it turned too masculine (but I’m not 100% sure it was this scent). Anyway, really nice bottle & one I will be giving a second try.

This starts with the fruits and the honey... but then broom comes in strong and hard( kind of hay and honey smell) . In the mid you get the honeysuckle it’s beautifully dominant . The base notes start to enter the arena and it starts to tone down with Amber and resins amidst the tobacco

First try it was sooooo powdery. Scrubbed it. Second try in warmer weather, and it’s powdery rose kind of like a powdery but beloved rose sachet I used to have in the 80s, plus Sen Sen mints. It's a crazy combination, but it somehow works and I really hate powdery scents.

Excellent quality pipe tobacco and Sachertort, a nice successful combination. If I had to get married maybe I would choose this perfume because wearing it makes you feel comfortable even in the thorniest situations. Here we are in high perfumery, classy. EC ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I share my first impression entirely with @JoeMacchiato. This is Roja Enigma/Creation-E's distant cousin so if you are into Engima's soft drink vibes scent profile I think you will enjoy this one too. Although I don't think I need to own both.

The opening resembles an old jar of red tiger balm, not really flattering. It sits close to the skin and somewhat peculiar. Ultimately something I’d wear to smell like my own man. It’s powerful but not overwhelming. Obsessed

The opening is pleasant and was hoping I'd like this one, but it very quickly turns into something reminiscent of floor polish.

Sarsaparilla/root beer, anyone?
