Rose Supercritique

Feel like I should add a review to counter the previous one, since I have a different experience of this fragrance. For a while, this became my every day office scent, along with Chypre Azural by Les Indemodables. I like it because it's such a sweet, powdery, gently gourmand rose fragrance, bringing to mind (for me) that modern rose characteristic in Montale's Intense Cafe and Mancera's Roses Vanilla, but done in a much gentler, softer and more feminine way. I don't find it the least bit old-fashioned - far from it! I also don't find it soapy. It's a romantic, warm and powdery, sherbetty cloud of rose. When I sampled the Eaux Primordiales range in Les Senteurs in London, I was impressed by them. They drew me in, each summoning up images and ideas. That's what I want my fragrance to do, as well as to smell good. The bottles also look fantastic and are of distinctly high quality design. I think the company is a passion-project by the founder, who works closely with experienced parfumer Amelie Bourgeois. I can't help wondering if she should be credited on this page, and I actually think I'd buy into the brand a bit more if she was more visible - - there are lots of passionate young men with self-professed "vision" setting up perfume brands - no offence to Arnaud. I think I prefer slightly more modest marketing copy (the website is full of words like 'excellence', 'quality', 'visionary' etc. It's slightly off-putting if you want to draw your own conclusions about the fragrances - though they are very nice). I'm interested in smelling more from this brand and don't doubt the passion and craftsmanship behind them.

I'm just ecstatic about this one. To me it smells like Nina Ricci Rose Extase, but better! It is like Amouage Rose Incense without the olibanum, incense and with a dash of sweetness from vanilla and raspberry instead. It's deep, but not overly so. This is a beautiful gourmand rose, so delicious, but not overpowering at all. I can see this being a perfect all year perfume, as it is light enough for summer, but dense enough for winter too. It seems a bit out of this house realm, I did not expect this. I agree with the previous reviewer that this is like a much gentler version of all those gourmand roses, I don't find it soapy or old-fashioned. While I was expecting a straightforward rose, what I found instead was a modern and elegant interpretation: soft, powdery, clean, and gently warmed by incense and cardamom. The rose note has a watery, translucent quality; airy, fluid, and lightly luminous. It feels contemporary and subtly fresh, never heavy or jammy, which makes the composition exceptionally easy to wear. I only wish it lasted a bit longer on my skin. Even so, after extended testing and finishing my entire sample, I ended up buying a full bottle; a rare decision for me, and a sign of how effortlessly beautiful this fragrance is. I'm yet to try Rose Supercritique on the skin but so far, this rose is very beautiful on paper. It does remind me of Delina Exclusif with its combination of red berries, rose and incense but I prefer this one. The scent cloud that will follow your every move (the projection is very good) reads as luxurious velvety rose, deliciously sweet and light at the same time.

Lovely flower fragrance, but I dont feel any roses here.

If you've ever smelled Turkish rose lokum, this is exactly that. Personally, I wouldn't want to smell like that.

I love rose perfume, but this a soapy, make-up-ey, old lady scent. Like, really old. A complete utter disappointment.

Starts with a blast of citrus that dissipates quickly, but is refreshing for hot weather. Settles into a zesty experience with a violet-vanilla base. Rose is in the name (which made me skeptical because I don't love rose-centric fragrances), but I don't get a heavy rose dose. I wouldn't call this a "freshy", but it wears so nicely in the warm weather. I absolutely love this. Some people refer to this as "old lady", which is not only a weak use of language, but is incorrect. I find this to be a fully evolved and contemporary fragrance. Finished my sample and scooped up a full bottle.

The notes displayed here are laughably wrong. The notes according to the brand are: Top: Bergamot and Pink Pepper Heart: Rose, black currant, cardamon Base: myrrh, incense, ambroxan Those are much more reflective of what the perfume smells like. The fresh-green cardamon is prominent in the beginning, a beautiful natural rose apparent throughout, and the sweetness in the base is a resinous, ambery sweetness, I don’t detect vanilla. I pick up on some other spices as well in the beginning, maybe clove or ginger. It’s a beautiful, complex perfume at a very competitive price.

@HugoAlfie. I'm considered to be an 'old lady' and I hate that people like you use age as a pejorative - it's ironic that age will come to you too. If I used gender, race, religion etc in the same way I would be slammed as a racist, sexist or any other kind of 'ist', yet here we are accepting a person's age as something that's nasty, distasteful and to be avoided at all costs. Find other words to use - broaden your horizons.

-Opens fresh and soapy. -Dries down....reminiscent of old lady perfume. -Simple, unadventurous, uninspiring. -Rose Supercritique is just a scent I'd never aspire to smell like (-)
