Escale En Haiti

I used to own Escale En Haïti by Les Indémodables, and honestly, I regret selling it. At the time I was obsessed with “beast mode” fragrances. If something didn’t project loudly or last forever, I tended to dismiss it. Looking back, that mindset made me overlook how well this fragrance actually works in real life, especially in a hot and humid place like South Florida. Our heat isn’t dry. You can step outside, walk to your car, and already feel the humidity soaking through your shirt. In those conditions, loud or overly dense fragrances can become cloying very quickly. Escale En Haïti handles that environment beautifully. It’s a fresh, uplifting vetiver that feels clean and invigorating rather than heavy or woody. It doesn’t remind me of Chanel Sycomore or other darker vetiver fragrances. Instead, it keeps things light, airy, and refreshing. Yes, the staying power isn’t the strongest, and that used to bother me. Now I see that as part of its charm. Sometimes you just want to smell fresh and clean for a while without worrying about a fragrance dominating your entire day. Looking back, this is one I truly wish I still had in my collection. An absolutely gorgeous, understated, sophisticated perfume that can be worn in hot or cold weather; as a casual scent or for formal occasions. The opening is fresh, aldehydic, minty. Escale en Haiti was a surprise to me, as I was expecting a cologne with a traditional citrus opening. Instead, its freshness is derived from the "cool" spicy, mildly astringent juniper and pink pepper. The dry down is my favorite part of the ride. The vetiver is a fresh, green vetiver (as opposed to something inky and heavy.) It's combined here with the slight sweetness of tonka bean, which I normally hate but don't mind here at all, and a lovely bit of myrrh - which stops the vetiver and tonka from going full-on barbershop. EeH also reminds me, somehow, of Mimosa and Cardamom by Jo Malone. It's very nice. 4/5 (PS: I hate how people use one measly spray from a sample and claim bad performance or longevity. Escale en Haiti lasts 24 hours on my skin and can often be detected even after a shower.)

A high quality, straightforward vetiver, great for summer but also works well in cool, damp spring. Balanced, gentle and light, perfect for daytime. Some sharpening gin/juniper berry up top with a little of their musky sweetness and the same from the hay-like coumarin/tonka. And perhaps some unobtrusive Iso E Super or ozonic musk for freshness, I can't be sure. Escale en Haïti doesn't shout to make itself heard but as I catch it through the day it carves out a calm sense of space around me. Vetiver is one of my favourite notes and in the vast range of vetiver perfumes out there this hits my sweet spot. Clean, mineral and lightly woody, it's hovering between Chanel's original Sycomore Eau de Toilette — minus Sycomore 's lovely, dusty cypress note — and Parfum d'Empire's beautiful Vetiver Bourbon , but without the latter's powdery orris root, meaning for me Escale en Haïti comes out just on top. A must-have. Les Indémodables are fast becoming one of my favourite houses.

I was never a vetiver person before this, and now I am obsessed, this is absolutely awesome I don’t know why people are always complaining about “performance” I could smell this on my shirt after 24 hours and a wash and drying cycle. The vetiver is incredible and not peanut-y which is great. And there is a great dose of hedione which is probably my favorite molecule. And not to mention all the natural absolutes etc. bought a bottle and already want to buy a back up

man at first smell i just glossed over this but now it is my absolute favorite lighter spring/summer fragrance. it has a beautiful hedione or something like a fresh hedione, with the pink pepper absolute and with a huge earthy vetiver. honestly it is like a (very) niche version of aqua di gio but with a very awesome earthy but fresh vetiver. and all the other naturals. extremely great

This is really cool. I skipped over this one when sampling this house, I just realized how good this is. It is beautifully spicy/fresh but perfectly earthy and rooty. Diffusion is perfect, subtle but lasts all day in its subtle way. Smells like a natural smell not like you sprayed a bunch of body spray or some synthetic mess. Hedione and vetiver awesome

Gorgeous scent. It reminds me of both my favorite fragrance; Chanel Sycomore edp and another I've thought about buying; Cartier Declaration Haute fraicheur. Awesome awesome awesome. Very very tempted to pick up a full bottle.. edit: bottle on its way heh. Its just too good.

This made me like vetiver which I normally hate. It's not harsh or smokey, but sweet and light. It could be from the tonka and myrrh mixed in it. It has the typical cologne traits, 3-4 hr with minimum silage. Waiting for summer to how well it performs.

I like this a lot, it's a very good vetiver based perfume and I'm probably jumping the gun on the review because I need to wear it again properly to figure it out. From the initial sniff I'd say it's a laid back, none scratchy vetiver perfume which relies on quite a mellow material for most of it's bulk, it's not overly smoky or anything, juniper is a fresh and welcome bedfellow, can't say I get much of the soft warmth of tonka or myrrh listed here in the base, but generally it feels like a really well rounded vetiver and having revisited Dior's Vetiver in recent days I can assure you that this is definitely more up my street and I'd sooner pay big bucks for a perfume like this than Frederic Malle's Vetiver (also good) for example, just because this is more subtle and oozes quality. However, it was quite shortlived and I know that should be implied in the name 'cologne' after all but it was extremely slight and low lying. Not a huge critisism and I really applied a tiny amount so I could wrong but something for folks to bear in mind if they are dropping fairly substantial money on this stuff. Update: 30/03/23 Yeah so I decided to wear this the following day after my review and I have to say, I'm still not convinced. It's simply a case of how present this perfume isn't. I'm not some size queen, or fucking performance brah!!! However, if the presence of a perfume is so slight it impacts on the experience and the ability to feel emotions about the fragrance or even assess technical stuff or whatever it might be that you get from wearing fragrance, then it's not working for me. It's not that I totally can't smell it, the remnant is there on my clothing and I have reapplied it, also I stick to my guns it's a lovely smelling simple, rustic vetiver with citruses and woody notes but still... I'm not onboard. Hard to say when I adore this brand but I gotta be honest, and hey does it matter? nah.

#623 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is my sixth Les Indemodables scent, another sprayette from a sample set of 12, and like the five before it this is a delicious scent. Woody aromatics are absolutely my first love. I have a dozen or so on the shelf, even keeping some EDTs that despite their poor longevity I haven't handed off, but I like this one better than anything else I have in the category. The spiciness and myrrh really set it off. And as others have commented, vetiver is not usually my thing (I gave my TF Grey Vetiver to another Fragrantica user as I was just never going to wear it) but here it works for me. However, as with the other scents in this line, the performance is indifferent for an EDP (one spritz lasts as a skin scent 2 hours at most, and the projection is the least potent of the six I've tried so far, six-eight inches, so you will really have to overspray and respray at lunch. That is not what I want to pay $135 for, but I may, because I love how this smells. For me, because of the short duration, it's a date scent only.

Escale en Haiti is Les Indemodables's take on the classic vetiver cologne. The rainbow pepper and juniper berry top is a nice touch of piquancy and aromatics that would normally be relayed by a salty and green aromatic vetiver note; it's an interesting substitution that works well. The vetiver of the heart is relaxed, calmly green, with none of the challenging aspects of vetiver present. Earthy tonka and resinous myrrh help accentuate the deep, woody, resinous aspects of the vetiver. It's shortlived in the classic cologne style, barely detectable on my skin in less than 4 hours. There's not much more to say about this, really. It's very pleasant, easily wearable, great materials and exceptionally blended. But, of my two favorite vetiver perfumes, Guerlain Vetiver has better breadth and is a better "standard" vetiver cologne, and Vetiver Extraordinaire is far more sophisticated, elegant, and complex. Escale en Haiti is therefore a bit too little and a bit too late for me.

I almost feel ashamed to say that it’s taken me this long to sample my first scent from Les Indemodables. Escale en Haiti doesn’t seem a bad place to start however, as it’s a gorgeous take on vetiver. Yes it’s rather simple and straightforward, but it’s ever so classy and graceful. The vetiver isn’t dense or earthy as some scents are, it’s actually incredibly gentle and delicate - slightly green and grassy, with a touch of dryness to it, complimented by the beautiful juicy aromatic nature of juniper. The sweet, gin-like aroma of this note, combined with dewy pink pepper is fantastic. The only issue I have with it lies within its simplicity, but it seems intended. It’s one of those easy reaches for the summer, something that smells fantastic and could never become overpowering, and so in that regard it gets full marks. But for the price of Les Indemodables, I’m unsure if this is worth picking up.

I was sampling Frederic Malle and discovered Vetiver Extraordinaire that fascinated me with its heart note. Then I remembered Les Indemodables released something vetiver-ish last year. Well, in short, instead of Frederic Malle I've decided to blind buy this one. Hoping it would be very similar or even better in some way. And it is! No, not better, but similar. Escale in Haiti is like a watered-down Vetiver Extraordinaire. And it's true if we take into account the difference in fragrance concentration. Since it's much easier to find Frederic Malle at local stores, you can test Vetiver Extraordinaire first, to see if you like the direction. Next summer I'll buy Dominique Ropion's creation, note the details and tell you more. In the meantime, I've fully satisfied my thirst for vetiver.

It’s a vetiver with eau de cologne strength if you will by modern standards. Nicely, executed doesn’t have the overly medicinal or earthy aspects. You feel the raw material has been treated and the quality is pristine alas the projection is so light I would rather stick with my Guerlain Vetiver EDT. Alternatively if your seeking an elegant vetiver then consider Malle’s Vetiver Extraordinaire and Vetiver Tonka by Hermes. At €155 I am not shopping for a skin scent. If you work in a hospital and don’t want to offend fellow staff or patients maybe you’re just right disposable income and projection constraints.

Les Indemodables Escale En Haiti (2020) - juniper vetiver - @antoinelieolfactiveexperience creates a straight-forward eau de cologne concentration and a practice on artistic pause & reflection, enabling the wearer to experience how much care they put in selecting the ingredients. Starts with Les Cayes #vetiver mixed with Macedonian Juniper Oil and Pink Pepper. But this has a depth supported by Venezuelan Tonka bean and Myrrh oil from Somalia. In fact, this cologne is perfect for cooler climes as well as it reminds me of crisp, fresh mountain air, snowy plains with dried grass, and christmas trees.

The pink pepper opening is certainly unique for a vetiver fragrance, but I'm not sure it's the good kind of unique - maybe there's a reason these notes aren't combined more frequently? Very harsh. But once the pepper dies down, this is a lovely, fresh, green vetiver. I feel like I've been vetiver neutral but a few fragrances recently are pulling me into my vetiver era, and Escale En Haiti is one of them.

Fresh juniper vetiver. Light, watery green notes with a hint of fruitiness and a full-bodied vetiver: woody, earthy, a pop of fresh spiciness boosted by the added pepper. A true EDC with transparency and performance to match, sort of a "skin scent+" with fairly soft projection for 2-3hr, longevity 5-7hr.

Vetiver cologne. I'm not a vetiver fan unless it is playing a supporting role so I am not the best judge of this. The ingredients are high quality and well blended.

8.4/10 Smells a bit like makeup but in a good way. The vetiver in this is surprisingly earthy and powdery, not as light as I was expecting.

Warmer, sweeter and slightly more resinous than other vetiver colognes. Really, really nice.

The scent isn't bad at all, maybe in top 10 best vetiver scents if judge by scent alone, but... it also doesn't stands out in the crowd of other vetiver frags. And on top of it... Why do I need another Encre Noire Sport (although yes, smoother one) with 1/3 of longevity, sillage and projection of ENS and 3 times price tag? Honestly, I expected more from Les Indemodables. This one doesn't match great pedegree of the rest of company offerings.

A vetiver that is light airy and unfortunately very weak When I sprayed the scent on my hand I loved it The vetiver was smooth and inviting No less than an hour it just evaporated I tried smelling myself to no avail It is way too weak and underperforming to consider buying I hate the opening was tremendous but it’s not worth wasting your money on

Is it fresh? Yes. Yes it dirty? Yes. It's kinda sorta in between as it has a light gin and tonic vibe along with the earthiness. Being EDC concentration it lasts 3 maybe 4 hours if you are lucky. At that price if you are a guy it just makes more sense to get Encre Noire Sport which lasts twice as long and is under $40.

Fresh vetiver over warm nutty myrrh tonka I’m generally not captured by vetiver overdoses alla Heeley Vetiver Veritas but this is really good stuff. Essentially high quality Haitian vetiver dressed in accents of juniper and fresh pink pepper slowly drying down to a silky nutty warm and dark myrrh tonka base. So if the plan was to really accent all of the elegant facets of vetiver, it has been fully accomplished. I also believe the EdC concentration is excellent because it allows enough room for the rather dark woody elements to expand without being unpalatable or stuffy. Tenacity and projection are closer to your average EDT, I get multiple solid hours off of few sprays. Closest comparison: FM Vetiver Extraordinaire with more of the warmth of Hermes Vetiver Tonka

This is very interesting! I thought definite actual citrus note at opening, beyond just aspect of the vetiver. And I also thought some sweet floral in the heart like orange blossom or neroli. Obviously built around mega-vetiver & dryness is tempered by myrrh. This is very nice, but performance both longevity & strength is not impressing me. Could be a reasonable purchase for someone interested in an introspective vetiver fragrance. ETA (on 10/3/20): I ended up buying a bottle because it just really does smell gorgeous & different, despite the definitely modest (weak TBH) performance.

This is an interpretation of vetiver supported by juniper and aromatic elements. While the fragrance emphasizes the fresher side, there is still an earthier and peppery component that provides some depth. What came to mind was Chanel Sycomore, although this feels softer and less rugged in comparison. Overall, I found it pleasant and well composed, although I personally prefer other vetiver-focused scents such as Guerlain Vetiver, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and Le Galion Vetyver. Low longevity.

I just tested this perfume tonight. I love this! Very beautiful opens strong and spicy with vetevier which is followed by pink pepper and juniper. There is a hint of myrrh and I suppose tonal bean in the basenotes. I haven’t had it on long enough to know whether it’s worthy of a full bottle; however, it’s exquisite and ethereal. Not a lot of silage. Def. not a beast but gives you just enough of it to want more.

One of the most sophisticated and tasteful colognes on the market. The vetiver is green, crisp and slightly chocolaty, while the undertones of tonka and myrrh add softness and depth. Very light 24/7 fragrance for spring and summer. The only cologne you'll ever need, and a very welcome change from all the vetiver/grapefruit pairings out there! No citrus in sight here.....

Opens up with a cheap sweetness from the pink pepper but quickly dries down into an earthy yet effervescent vetiver, unfortunately it becomes a bit linear and detergent-like. Much prefer Mon Vetiver by Essential Parfums which has more smoky woodiness. Mediocre performance

First impression of this: It’s green and fresh to my nose. That’s all I’m getting for now. Will come back and review the dry down. It’s not complex and won’t bother those around you with your scent.
