Escale En Indonésie

Escape en Indonésia is utterly pleasant fresh scent without any sharp or harsh nuances. I'm not a fan of citrus scents but I have always been enjoying to wear this one. It's so so soft, not crispy and rather comforting than energising which is rare if we are talking about the citrus category. Neroli and Jasmine are pretty yet gender neutral. I don't think this leans into green but it stays bright with beautiful salty and sensual touch from Ambergris. It's not animalic in any kind of way, it just makes this citrus scent more than just a fresh citrus perfume. Sandalwood helps to keep the aroma smooth and silky but it never gets thick nor creamy. I'm wondering why women haven't found this scent since there is nothing masculine nor feminine character in this one, it's totally neutral. Escape en Indonésia is absolutely a great choice to wear in hot temperatures but it doesn't feel unsuitable for colder weather either, it's great office scent as well. It doesn't last all the day and a sillage is minimal but I don't see that it's a problem in this kind of perfume. You can easily overspray it, bath in it and you get a gentle veil over you and it's like your second skin. Thank you for reading, I hope my review was helpful. Magic!!! Finally got to try the colognes from Les Indemodables and they didn't disappoint! Well this one certainly didn't. It's a really fine study on grapefruit, sharp in the opening but with a sweetness and sherbert fizz to it. The midsection is a kind of mossy wood but it's not really bitter like some citrus/oakmoss things and that's not to it's detriment. Citrus and fresh white florals is a pretty well trodden path but this has some very good, naturalistic vibe to it, the sweetness I mentioned likely coming from jasmine. I noticed some comparisons in the 'smells like...' and I get that there's an ambergris quality to this perfume so comparing it to the Ambre from this brand is entirely valid in one sense...it probably uses their excellent, ultrasonic extraction/tincture thingy, which I've tried on it's own and is excellent, however probably slightly misleading to say smells like...but anyway. It reminds me ( a little bit when it's dried down) of vintage Dior Eau Sauvage, I think there might even be a rounding sandalwood accord in there. It's wonderful. Really, I mean it should be hard to get excited for a perfume which is basically a citrus cologne but I respect that citrus is one of the hardest things to do as a perfumer, ad this is elevated by great materials and world class compounding, so it deserves praise.

A rush of bright citric Bergamot and Pettigrain. A delightful blossoming of Neroli and Jasmine. An undercurrent of brackish Ambergis. Modern with a glance backwards at colognes of the past, Escale En Indonésie is a beautifully clear, sparkling, well structured fragrance, each element seguing into the other with graceful ease. Gorgeous. Purchased after trying the full sample/discovery set ( excellent value BTW), my actual bottle arrives tomorrow. The minor concern is that the Ambergris in the sample isn't as dense as I'd like, and from reading a few other reviewers, maceration/oxidisation seems to help boost it's potency after a few months. So, my big gamble is that Ambergris performance will amplify over time. Fingers crossed. Longevity from tester is roughly four to five hours, with sillage being a close bubble/skin scent. Hoping I can update in a few months regarding effects of masceration. Update - 4 months later, and yes, the ambergris is already showing an amplified strength, with the citric nature receding a little. Amazing after a good bladed shave. Love it, and I think when it's gone I would have to purchase again.

First let's talk about the elephant in the room. This is 99% natural and on top of that, it's an Eau De Cologne. So don't go into this expecting "beast" performance. It's also not a mass appeal fragrance (by todays standards). Now, let's talk about the good. This is a 99% natural fragrance that has real ambergris featured prominently! The ambergris was found in Sumatra and is used in 5% concentration. I wish I could get a 2 liter of this cologne and dump it all over me but it's expensive. I have many Italian colognias that I love but this is French and it feels like a vintage French gentleman's cologne. Tangy lemon and bergamot and green petigrain over a bed of salty ambergris with a slight animalic tinge. Petigrain lends a touch of green. Astringent, but sandalwood and jasmine softens it up. This is so good I close my eyes and spray it on my face just so I can smell it longer. Reminds me of the ambergris in the vaulted Creed Chevrefeulle! Performance is similar to chevrefeulle as well. Addictive. Absolutely Beautiful. Scent 10/10 Performance 2/10

Very nice, very natural-smelling, very Creed-esq scent profile. Evidently this has natural ambergris, so it's not a surprise that it evokes similarities to Creed's house DNA. I get the comparisons to Creed Chevrefeuille. I sprayed this Escale Indonesie pretty heavily on clothes. Yes, I wish this was in a higher concentration than EDC. But as I was getting subdued whiffs off my shirt hours into the drydown, it became apparent which other Creed this reminded me of: Vetiver Geranium from its Aqua Originale line. Now, Escale Indonesie doesn't list a Geranium note, and the geranium in Vetiver Geranium is amped way up. The note structure is different but it certainly evokes a similar profile to my nose. Some may be put off by Vetiver Geranium's 11 O'Clock geranium, but Escale Indonesie is a subdued, well-blended and extremely pleasant scent.

I have been wearing this for a few weeks now and it just keeps getting better. The top notes are citrus and neroli but within seconds, the ambergris starts to develop and it steals the show. This then dries down to a pure Ambergris with faint supporting notes of neroli and sandalwood and creates a slightly leathery feel, too. Because this is mostly a ambergris scent, it really works year round and in virtually all circumstances. It is masterfully elegant and is absolutely perfect for work or at home. I own a lot of very nice fragrances but this one is now amongst my very favorites. I should also mention that I hate synthetic fragrances, and especially ambroxan. This however, smells beautifully natural and unique. May also be a bit of a throwback to 80s Italian gentleman fragrances. Love it

The pros of this is to experience a super high quality ambergris in Eau de cologne concentration. It does not project strong or last long but it really is beautiful, and distinctive. It is the same ambergris from Ambre Supreme but it does not smell as mineral due to the oil concentration. It opens with a fresh citrus and soft neroli. It is so light, so shy, so beautiful and it is giving so little, so little and I am in lust, I want more and more. It does not shine if you sample this at the same time with other perfumes. But on its own, on the hottest and most humid day, it is a true gem.

Can’t say that I get any comparison to Sauvage personally. Although I find it’s in the same wheelhouse so to speak in terms of what it does and what it’s for. Very lovey refreshing composition. I get great performance from it as well. If I didn’t know any better I would say it is an EDT due to its staying power. If you’re a fan of ambergris you should certainly sample this. I get ambergris from the beginning to the dry down and it’s lovely. Quality is there and the blending is well done. A very nice EDC style fragrance with a fantastic ambergris note weaving in and out.

I don't know if many get noseblind to this, but I leave home at 5 in the morning and a colleague could smell it by lunchtime when I was standing about one arm's length from him. He smelled the citrus and jasmine and said it smelled like summer in his garden (west coast of southern Sweden) where he has a jasmin bush. And I do three sprays (two on each side of the back of the neck and one on my forearm)! Anyhow, I love to wear this one in the height of summer. The greasy, salty drydown is lovely, and I also get a hint of petrichor. Fresh, bright citrus with a dark edge!

Au naturale~~pale, sun-bleached hair and salty skin. Briny white florals emerge after the citrus fades, resting on warm, dry ambergris that glistens over sandalwood. I like this in spring, summer, and possibly early fall. There’s nothing generic or artificially zippy here. It feels vintage in style, not in scent...like a modern take on a classic cologne, crafted with natural materials. A classy move by Antoine Lie and Les Indemodables

Great EDC! Its classic in a good sense, well-balanced, nuanced, elegant citrus with a salty touch, with seaside ambargris note surprisingly well integrated with the soft jasmin, soft petitgrain, soft sandalwoodish base. Performance is great for an EDC. A happy scent for any situation that serves quality feeling, smells "real". It has an edge over most of the citus over there. Probably ordering a bottle.

Second review. I’ve been wearing this multiple days in a row now that the temps are approaching 90s here. It’s great to spray on something light, refreshing with an interesting ambergris twist. Never heavy or cloying, it plays hide and seek and comes out the more you sweat. Just a brilliant simple composition with high quality ingredients. Will have to purchase a backup bottle.

In my opinion, this is a 8-9/10 - incredibly refreshing citrus and dry wood is what appears to me at first, with breathtaking and heady, salty ambergris. Dry down is quite linear, but that doesn't bother me as I love this scent as is. I get 6-7 hrs of longevity on skin, with moderate to low sillage. Lasts longer on cotton shirt. Sampled and will be getting a full bottle.

A wonderful blend of citrus and ambergris... and that's about it. Both beautiful and boring simultaneously. This is essentially the aftershave version of Ambre Stone, which is overall better but sadly discontinued. You'll get a faint animalic note from the ambergris, that is both skanky, yet absolutely addicting. A reviewer below mentioned cement. They are not far off.

My partner just told me whatever I sprayed this morning was orgasmic. Classic, manly, fresh with natural ambergris revving it up to a pulsing degree. Douse yourself and go for a walk. It’s bliss when the slight “funk” weaves in and out of the fresh citrus. A fragrance that shouldn’t exist but I’m so glad it does. Spray with complete abandon.

Incredible. One of the best fragrances I have recently tried. It’s simple and unassuming. An Eau de cologne with a slug of real ambergris. Fresh, musky and masculine. Keeps you sniffing. Spray with abandon! I kind of wish they made a larger splash bottle of this. Napoleon would have loved it.

Very nice high quality citrus eau de cologne with real ambergris. This has abysmal performance in colder weather but in high heat/humidity this lasts and radiates quite well. On my skin I get a sweeter, less aromatic version of Dior’s eau Sauvage with a ton of ambergris.

Oh my god after letting my sample age for a few months the ambergris is really coming out. It is amazing it smells like the texture of actual butter but a bit lighter. It is creamy ambergris jeez very good. It took a couple months to really come out in the vial

9/4/2021: I am just going to be short: this is worth having a backup bottle. Edit: this is a great profile scent but it’s kinda weak maybe with a stronger concentration as eau de Parfum I will give it 10/10 but right now it’s a 7

A cologne where ambergris is front and center, in the freshest of ways. This is what vintage Jicky would be without the vanilla and lavender. My bottle is going to run dry fast.

Sweet lemony, woody, salty goodness. Very clean and inoffensive. Currently at $150. If I find a cheaper price, then I'll buy a full bottle.

This my favorite perfume in my entire collection! Best take on a cologne style fragrance ever!

Lemons and beaches, high-quality skin scent

Testing info: I got a small sample vial. Applied a few strokes using the dauber onto clean skin. Scent: It opens with a melange of citrus notes, light and fresh but not overly so. It then slowly transforms to this clean skin scent with a light woodsy undertone that stays close to the skin. On me, this stays this way for at least 4 hours. I would say the scent is in the same family as Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and Apres La Mousson in that it is neither feminine nor masculine (though it leans slightly to the masculine side due the the light woodsy undertone). There is this absence of floral notes even though neroli and jasmine are featured in the notes. This is one of those "barely there" high end fragrances, similar to Byredo Gypsy Water or Mojave Ghost in that they are not loud, stay close to the skin that if you keep smelling yourself it's as if they disappear, but they're there nonetheless. However, the lightness is to be expected as it is an Eau de Cologne, which might explain why the price is relatively low, considering the brand's positioning in the market (I get the impression that they position themselves as a niche, high-end brand). Who I picture wearing this: People who are happy and comfortable just being there. They don't feel the need to announce their presence but still want to wear a fragrance to smell nice and complete the look. They are established, self-assured, and comfortable in their own skin. They wear crisp white shirt and stuff with no discernible designer logos but you know they are high quality and probably expensive. Also, when I'm rich enough to be able to do this, this is the kind of perfume (with the bottle design taken into consideration) that I'll put on the counter in my powder room for my guests to use. Get this if: you want a good quality light, skin fragrance that works for anyone of any gender for any occasion, with an air of prestige that can only come from wearing a niche brand. Don't get this if: you want something that will announce your presence or something more on the floral side, or you couldn't care less about prestige.

Escale en Indonesie is one of the two Les Indemodables entries into the classic cologne genre, which, like Escale en Haiti, makes an attempt to put a modern spin on an old idea and is largely successful. Indonesie smells retro and classic in a positive way, whilst the clarity and precision of the materials lends to a modern feel. The naturalistic hesperidics of the top notes, mainly bergamot, lemon, and orange, mix with a gently floral heart and touches of salty ambergris in a way that is achingly familiar. We're still doing this template today, even after its approximate centenary, and why? - because it's just good. It works for our noses and our brains; I believe we are biologically programmed to like it. Due to the synthetic materials for the hesperidics in particular, they have a resolution and precision to them that gives them a modern edge, but it's the sandalwood base that really drives this feeling home. It's an excellent quality synthetic sandalwood - a touch peppery and cedary, a touch milky, and light and fresh, like you're smelling sandalwood sawdust. There are only two problems with Escale in Indonesie: the first is its longevity, which leave a fair bit to be desired for the price, and the second is timing. If you do not have a masculine citrus woody scent because you are brand new to the world of perfumes, it makes perfect sense to buy this if Les Indemodables's style speaks to you. I am not new to the world of perfumes. I have been living with and loving this genre for decades, whether it's Eau Sauvage, vintage and new, Terre d'Hermes, Malle's colognes - my mind is spinning with so many others coming to the fore that my fingers will not be able to type fast enough to keep up - so why would I buy this now? I wouldn't. Great recommendation for a newbie, a bit redundant for the rest of us, but very well done nonetheless.

Subtle, sly and superb. Indemodables know what they're doing and have a great knack for reviving apparently tired ideas and doing them JUST RIGHT. So - what could be exciting about another summer citrus cologne? An incredibly skilful way with ambergris, that's what. As usual, there's the inevitable (for a nearly-all-natural EDC) when the first sparkle of the bergamot/lemon/bitter orange zing dies back after an apparently disappointingly short time - maybe an hour at most. (And the disappointment is real, as that top is delicious: radiant and un-sugared and un-fake, full of lovely zest, no cleaning products, just fantastic.) But wait - the best is yet to come - there's a marvellous modulation to something warmer and velvety. The ambergris really starts to make its presence felt - summoning beach breezes and fresh sea salt on your skin, purring away underneath for a surprisingly long while afterwards (on me, up to 4-5h). And it's a really beautiful ambergris, nothing dirty about it, just absolutely authentic and true. (No, you will not smell like whale sick - just like the aftermath of a great day at the seaside). Effortlessly dodges all the usual pitfalls of scents in this area: no harsh metallic edges, no industrial 'blueness', no shades of downmarket men's colognes. Utterly unisex, completely classy. Somehow it melds to you, but makes you a fresher and cleaner and happier version of yourself. It is not cheap, does not project, and doesn't last as long as I wish it would - the only reasons I rate it as the strongest possible 'like' rather than love. But it's great, great work.

First impression: dislike! Smells like a marine vetiver? More wearings: WOW this grew on me. The reason I smelled vetiver is this green vegetal undertone, which is however much more like Green crunchy leaves rather than rooty vetiver. Overall this smells like a salty citrus green scent. The first 20 minutes open like an orange margarita, by which I mean there is a contrast between a juicy Almost sweet orange And a rim full of salt crystals- incredibly pleasing, light, and natural. After that the emphasis is on SALTY. I get very crystalline salt spritzed with orange on a bed fresh green leaves. In the air I get a surprisingly creamy texture. Must be the ambergris playing with the sandalwood. About 1.5 hours in the saltiness subsides and what’s left is something I really struggle to describe Something between salty/sweet/earthy/musky, I’m guessing this must be the ambergris that’s left over after the other notes disappear. For those not familiar with ambergris (like me) it’s a weird Smell. If you sniff it too close it goes briney and off putting. It’s very mild though, and if you suspend judgment and let it bloom on your skin, maybe you’ll come to love it like me In conclusion this is like if Dolce Gabbana Light Blue Intense was done right. Smells very different but it feels like it’s the same idea just done waaay better.

After sampling Escale en Haiti, a lovely clean Vetiver, I was keen to explore Escale en Indonésie. What a pleasant surprise I had in store for me, this is the far superior scent in my opinion. It’s such an easy and satisfying wear. Centred around this wonderfully clean and vibrant lemon note, complemented by bergamot created this tart sharpness, which pairs beautifully with the refreshing saltiness of ambergris. White florals, namely neroli, then provide a gentle, clean balance. It performs, and smells, like an eau de cologne. Whilst there’s nothing wrong with that, it becomes an issue when the scent costs £150, it’s simply not justified for something you’ll need to re-apply every hour. A shame really, because it smells great.

Very light. Bitter orange / petit grain in the opening. Then that distinctive Les Indemodables DNA with the natural ambergris. Toned way down from the amazing Amber Supreme (great sweaty humid summer evening scent) but still there in a very pleasant way. Never overly funky. Just perfect. You do have to go looking for it. I get some light woody notes that I read as Vetiver but apparently are Sandlewood, something I wouldn’t normally confuse. I really like well projecting fragrances. This isn’t that. It’s just a little bubble. I couldn’t wear Amber Supreme to the office. If I want THAT natural Les Ind Amber, but wearable anywhere, this is it. Length is outstanding on my skin. 8+ hours.

It's interesting. It's the first time I look at fragrance notes and can't recognize most, so much new experience for me. And it has a lot of strange associations. Bergamot. A hint of neroli and camphor. But other than that... Is it ambergris, the smell of which I don't know? Salty-sour meaty marinade. And something that resembles the smell of plasticine and pine tree. Or I go in circles and paraphrase the notes I've already mentioned. Am I catching jasmine or making it up?

Light, fresh marine citrus. Rindy citruses, bitter and green like petitgrain, combine with airy white florals and a slightly warm, salty ambergris anchored to a woody base. At least I'm willing to believe there's real ambergris in this, has a nice sweet 'n' salty kinda thing going for it as it dries down. Very soft projection for 60-90min, close to a skin scent immediately, maybe 2hr if you work up a sweat which I did at the gym testing this. Longevity 4-5hr.

Les Indemodables Escale En Indonesie (2020) - salty skin - @antoinelieolfactiveexperience makes use of a precious ingredient from Sumatra - Ambergris and its wondrous facets. Ozonic, Mineral, Salty skin, Radiant, Animalic. Complementing this accord is Bergamot, some white florals, and sandalwood. You can smell the quality of the material used and the refinement in its construction

#547 in my "Tour de Fragrance" The instant I smelled this I thought, "original Abercrombie and Fitch "Fierce." And though this fragrance sports a hint of ambergris it's not enough to make a $90 difference. Escale en Indonesie is $170,"Fierce" is $80, and "Fierce" is more complex and identical in performance.

Very high quality? Yes. Natural smelling? Yes. Good value for money? Yes. Groundbreaking? No. This one didn't grab me the way the other creations from this house did. Its still an awesome eau de cologne. 7/10

If you want a cheapie that comes really close to this: Alvarez Gomez Barbería.

Lovely citrus floral woody cologne. Perfect for hot weather.

Not spectacular. Boring. Guarded. Traditional. Ok. I wouldn't have gotten it myself so glad it was gifted instead. Another one that'll go to the guest bathroom for males to enjoy a fresh colone like refresher.

This is a citrusy, marine, woody vetiver scent. Its not bad but not wow either. It has also a powdery/dusty aspect to it that I dont like (maybe from the sandalwood and bergamot). Try before buying.

Simply, do not blind buy this one! Very very Light! Very very Transparent! Very very not Sauvage! If you want to smell like nothing in 30 min then go and buy it, I am glad that I bought a sample from indigo perfume website, otherwise how the hell I will know that Fragrantica review is biased! I will give it 6.5/10

This fragrance is just plain strange on me- smoke, modeling clay and cement- this might smell good on a guy, though-

The quality of the raw materials is undeniable. It opens with a standard citrusy cologne vibe, but then evolves into a 5% tincture of ambergris, whose aromatic profile and dance with neroli display an unparalleled fragrance, delicacy, and elegance. This cologne is also excellent for identifying the general aromatic profile of “white” ambergris. If Ambre Supreme is reserved for grand occasions, Escale is its more laid-back sibling, perfect for daily life and office settings (a merit in itself, considering the office is one of the toughest environments for a fragrance). Chapeau, Les Indemodables. P.S.: You obviously have to appreciate ambergris, which is presented here in all its glory. Spray Escale, wait 10-15 minutes, and take a sniff. Congratulations—you’ve just returned from an ocean swim without ever leaving your spot. Salt, human skin, sweat, seawater—it’s the real ocean (not some romanticized version) on your skin. Update: It pains me greatly to admit that the fragrance has virtually no longevity, even in normal temperatures. It fades quickly and struggles to even linger as a skin scent. Such a shame. If it lasted longer, it would easily be a 9/10. I hope it’s an issue with the batch from which the two decants I tried were sourced. When I say it’s a shame, it’s because this scent is such a beauty to the nose that it leaves you in awe. It’s like having a seaside garden in a bottle. At this point, I’d just want to keep it as a meditative fragrance—so beautiful, yet so fleeting.

This is amazing!! Absolutely amazing!! One of the best, high quality Eau de Colognes on the market. Even though I personally prefer Escale en Haïti by the same brand (because of its gorgeous vetiver note), I think Escale en Indonésie is a work of art.... Opens on a beautiful citrus accord - like a classic eau de cologne, but beautifully round and with just the right hint of sweetness - to then dry down on a soft, extremely pleasant and natural smelling pillow of ambergris (the real thing that is; no thick, syrupy, amber-woody cringe in this bottle!) Such quality, such understated chic..... Now beware: this is an eau de cologne, not an edt or edp. So it's not made to last, it's not meant to project, it's not designed to impress the people around you. This is for private pleasure and enjoyment only, to finish your morning routine in style, or to give yourself a pick me up during the day. Excellence!

From the little foldout that comes with the fragrance: Ambergris tincture 5%, Bitter orange lead oil Morocco Grand Cru, Jasmine absolute Egypt Grand Cru. Also stated, "this product is 99% natural" Not sure why ambergris is so highly rated as present. I have this on tester strip next to Silence the Sea, Orca and Baikal Gris, and it presents the weakest ambergris (but the freshest overall so..) To my nose, the neroli is strong here, though losing those woody squeaky soapy aspects when softened over by a healthy dose of Jasmine. And it is these 2 aspects that really dictate the scent. Edit on hindsight I realize perhaps the ambergris here being neither the loud nor animalic sort was overshadowed. Its merits are that it does seem very natural and floats the scent with a halo of crusted salt and creamy wax, with just a bit of damp like washed up driftwood

Such freshness! Like a cool breeze coming off a citrus orchard next to the sea. I don’t think anything I’ve smelled comes closer to capturing a pleasant seawater accord without becoming synthetic or “blue”. There’s almost an emptiness here, mirroring the vastness and tranquility of the ocean. Simple and subtle, yet surprisingly complex in its evolution. It’s ozonic, animalic, and salty, then very gradually it becomes more mellow and smoothens out. It really does display just how singularly annoying synthetic ambroxan is. I get almost nothing like it here. This other complimentary notes just peak their heads above the star ingredient, and it's better than any "minimal" aromachemical mixtures that are out there currently.

A glittering aquatic musk, with a bright citrus opening. At first I found Escale en Indonesie enchanting and unusual. However... I believe I was a bit anosmic to the ambergris at first. Slowly but surely though, my nose began to recognize it. Over time, the smell of Escale en Indonesie became overpowering. It became a beast-mode, long-haul, death march of a perfume that I couldn't wash off of me. The ambergris does create a kind of "your skin but better" effect. But to my nose, Escale en Indonesie is almost briny, like an oyster. And from there, it's only one tiny step to a certain male bodily fluid...

There is a big dose of petitgrain in the opening of Escale en Indonesie on hot days that brings to mind leaves, branches and dirt. Not as bracing or acidic as other traditional eau de colognes, the jasmine - salty and a touch sweet - smooths out the citruses. A light sandalwood base. Not complex, but well-balanced & excellent note separation. Lasts longer than expected and the hint of something animalic. I find Escale en Indonesie to be a pleasant fragrance but nothing special. Would it rate as highly without the mention of “real ambergris”? Probably not.

This smells so so good. I agree 100% with reviewer below, mlke. I would love to have a bottle of this beautiful freshness. I also thought it smelled of vetiver, and even maybe galbanum. Amazing how there is earth water sky--it is complex and yet again so refreshing, like a simple, pure day lived over and over, compressed upon itself into an essence. And the notes as written here are so simple. Beautifully done.

This is very nice & very subtle. Progression of citrus into neroli into wood is reminiscent of an enormously dialed down Bruno Fazzolari Five. If the latter is someone just crashed their car into a massive truck filled with wooden crates of citrus fruits and orange blossoms, this is the car driver then bumped into you on the sidewalk. I really do like the salty oceanic ambergris accord quite a lot.
