Vanille Havane Coeur de Oud

Well... I liked the original Vanille Havane I thought it captured really enjoyable facets of both Vanilla (actually much more resinous and woody) and tobacco (actually smells like a tobacco absolute rather than the broad accords found in many tobacco fragrances) I found it to be reminiscent of some hand rolled cigarillos my friend brought me back from the Dominican Republic, and even the wooden box they came in. So I found it impressive but it was still quite a soupy, heavy sort of fragrance, quite artisan in that sense, while I could understand how the prospect of an additional oud material would be complementary, I was thinking it might just further weigh down an already pretty damn, dense fragrance. They've done something pretty miraculous here after a predicable opening of somewhat of the original, rich and sweet earthy tones, you get that heavy, chocolate, resinous, lightly fruity sensation of the oud and then in the drydown it's much more civilized and clearly has some aroma chemical fixation, giving it a lighter, more modern feel but you can still smell the oud which is all important. I think it succeeds in being a very good, very opulent fragrance, which takes the original material, incidentally this was sent along with my sample (a dilute oil, sort of Thai type, fruity oud) which was more animalic and had that slight funk to it which comes out in the opening but is slightly lost later on, which could be a critique from big oud fans. However, I'm a fan of perfumery and I think this perfume accentuates other facets of the material which is it's intent. The one thing I would say is that combining these perfumes you don't get Vanille Havane + Oud (well you do get that) I actually think the sweetness and overall feel of the perfume completely changes direction and feel, to the point die hard fans of the original might not understand this one. Price is prohibitive however the materials are not in question here and perfume price points are mental at the moment for stuff with zero transparency regarding expensive naturals used, so at least here you know what you're getting. Still it's a lot of money and as much as I'm loving wearing this today It's not interesting enough to get me onboard. The example being when I smelled the oud, it's very good but there's many oud oils like this with the more mellow, sweeter facets. I'd like to have seen the rarer weirder shit, like some Chinese oud which smells more like vetiver oil or Indian stuff which is plain animalic, blue cheese, farmyard shit!

Can’t get enough of this. This sits side by side in my number 1 spot for winter frags with its sibling, the original Vanille Havane. Longevity is decent. Sillage is probably about arms length or a little more which is ok with me because I don’t like to overwhelm everyone around me with some nuclear performance. This is one of the few I’d rate a 10 out of 10. Excellent high end niche perfumery.

Unbalanced. Unforgivable. I love Vanille Havane; I have a full bottle of that and it's almost gone. I also have Vanille Havane Extrait Absolu. My one wish for both of those scents would be that I wish both had more strength and projection. They are both beautiful but they kind of disappear into skin scents in less than an hour... And so, I thought that the Coeur de Oud formulation would be the answer. I found a bottle of Coeur de Oud, #239. Unfortunately: the oud here is a piercing gasoline note that really tramples down all the other notes in Vanille Havane that I absolutely love. The oud never ever quiets down to let the other notes shine. It never gets to that beautiful mixture and smolder effect that I was hoping for. Maybe it's just my bottle. The only way it's wearable is by layering 1 spritz of Coeur de Oud with about 3 of the regular formulation... even then I am a bit unsure. Maybe. Maybe I would love this if I hadn't loved Vanille Havane first. I'm going to get another bottle of Vanille Havane a play around with the layering a bit, but I believe this should be able to stand on its own. It doesn't. I can't recommend it. ----------- I know you can't just mix perfumes up, it's not that simple, I know it's more complicated than that. Maybe Demeter fragrances. Not sure about anything else. Still... I thought maybe with THIS, and the original Vanille Havane, I could maybe get away with it. I mixed up a 3ml decant, I'd say it's 85% Vanille Havane and 15% Coeur de Oud. I really like it! But it's pulling very very chocolatey. No idea why. I'm a max level alchemist in World of Warcraft AND Skyrim but I guess those credits don't transfer

I own the moon and this fragrance (#228) and also Russian Oud 2. Russian Oud 2 is the better version of this fragrance to put it simply. Vanille Havane coeur de Oud is similar to the moon in terms of the smoky Oud smell to this fragrance however this fragrance goes more cacao chocolatey whilst the moon goes more fruity sweet. If you’re thinking about getting this fragrance I’d just try to find Russian Oud 2 by areej le dore. It’s a better smoother cacao chocolatey oud, whilst it isn’t smoky woodyish it’s still incredible. Don’t get me wrong this fragrance is still incredible and the oud really is the heart of this fragrance (see what I did there lmao) but yeah In short it’s a wonderful smoky mature cacao oud, I can support someone getting it but when Russian oud 2 is out there this is kinda redundant to me. 8/10

As a proud owner of this fantastic fragrance #235/500. It ́s quite similar to the regular Vanille havanne however. Even tough the scent profile is similar the Coeur de oud version excells further with smoother scent and the added oud. It ́s a non-skanky oud. It ́s warm and has a quite resinous feel to it. Opens up quite sharp but smooth, almost "boozy/Whiskey" like. Then the cacao, vanilla shows up and gives it a mature gourmand feel without feeling gourmandy (if it makes sense?) This is also where it shines in the mids and drydown. The oud! The warmth gives a comforting feeling to the wearer. This is not a fragrance others might enjoy, so it ́s not a crowdpleaser but more individual enjoyment! In summary, one of the few fragrances i ́d give a 10/10

First few minutes is similar to the original and then it changes direction. It feels like a lot of facets were stripped back to let the complexities of the oud do the talking, which it really does. Dry woods, incense, cacao, red berry sweetness and burnt espresso. None of the barnyard some probably were expecting, it's certainly cleaner and feels quite high grade to be honest. Beautiful stuff and a perfume that rewards exploring its nuances.

Delicious. Top tier oud in terms of "they used real oud, they tried to make it smell good, and they put it out to the mass market". Its SMOKEY oud which is freakin amazing. Its hard to come by oud that smells like its burning. This one does. Very very good. Use sparingly. Apply small amount on pulse points. It will develop throughout the day.

I don’t know, this reminds of the Moon by Frederic Malle but lighter maybe it’s the Oud now I’m debating if it’s worth getting the bottle .

I fondly remember when I was able to afford $500 fragrances, I'd preorder this in an instant. Those were the days...
