Inside the Forest Witch’s Warm Lair.... A deeply meditative, sensual, soft-leathery, nutty, green-powdery and earthy fragrance. I haven’t read The Beast Within, but if the idea here is about the animal within us; about instinct; it doesn’t feel violent at all. Instead, it leans toward something far more sensual. This sensuality isn’t aggressive or feral; it’s bodily, intimate, and reassuring, like the quiet warmth of a cat’s belly, offered without tension. The fragrance feels genuinely sensual in nature: simultaneously calming and meditative, yet intensely tactile and instinctual. What I perceive are a softly sweet, powdery note, paired with a green accord reminiscent of matcha; though more earthy than fresh; along with nutty and salty facets. The color it evokes in my mind is never a vivid green, but rather brown-green, natural forest tones. Perfectly so. This isn’t a fresh forest scent; it feels more like the moment you stray off the path and, without fully realizing how, find yourself at an animal’s nest hidden deep among the trees. The den is low, close, and instinctively comforting; lined with dry woods and filled with a skin-warm, milky atmosphere, the kind of warmth that radiates from bodies rather than fire, like milk slowly heating, never boiling. Outside, a cool pine breeze moves through the forest, crisp and airy. Inside the den, everything folds inward, settling into a cocooning warmth. You push your head out for a second, feel the chill brush your skin, then retreat again; choosing the quiet, milky safety within. The warmth isn’t loud or heavy; it’s intimate, steady, and deeply comforting. I recently obtained a sample of this wonderful creation from a boutique in my city. The sample cost $4 but it was definitely worth it. Les Liquides Imaginaires is fast becoming one of my favorite houses and this new creation and wonderful creation by Amelie Bourgeois is one of the reasons. This is a beautifully composed and magical elixir. Blended to perfection. I can't even describe it as I've never smelled anything quite like it. It just smells beautiful. I disagree with the reviewer below about it smelling leathery as I don't pick up any such notes or accords. On my skin, there's nothing edgy, animalic or smokey. It's just smooth, creamy, woody and a bit sweet. I don't even know based on the note breakdown where that sweetness is coming from but over 15 hours since I first sprayed it, I'm still picking it up on my skin. The fragrance is perfectly unisex. I feel as though anyone can pull this off, but it would be better suited for fall or early spring and even in winter. Day, night, office or casual. Scent : 10/10 Longevity : 10/10 Projection : 8/10 Sillage : 8/10 Overall : Woody and wonderful Final thoughts... One thing I do agree on with the reviewer below is that it is not a safe blind buy. I believe that nothing is ever truly a safe blind buy and that everything should be sampled and tried on skin first. I do love this fragrance a lot and will consider a full bottle because I think it is wonderful and unique. Again, I've never smelled anything quite like this and I definitely want to smell it again.

A complete falling in love for me. Of all the samples I had ordered, this one (actually all of "les eaux de peau") I expected to hate it, since I'm not a fan of animalics. Funny thing, this one is not animalic at all! It's actually more green and woody to me, very woody but also green and balsamic, thanks to the cypriol and papyrus which dominate the drydown to my nose. On opening, I get warm chewy/buttery chestnut (not buttery as in the smell of butter but rather, like in a chestnut spread) which quickly fades to sandalwood and other woods (cedar?) on my skin. An hour or so in, the cypriol and papyrus come in and last for the rest of the time. For those unfamiliar with papyrus, it's similar to vetiver in some ways, but instead of burning wood, think about it like papery ashes. Those who like sandalwood and vetiver will find much to like here. I feel that this smells like a city guy wandering into the woods: a clash of urban and nature. A return to the roots, to simpler times. Many of the fragrances of Liquides Imaginaires tend not to push out too much and stay within arm length and close to skin but personally that's fine by me, I can safely wear this at the office without getting flack. Also, in the current heat and humidity it has presence but doesn't seem to overpower everything so that's a positive thing as well. I actually got a few positive comments from this one so that's a winner for me. A wonderful surprise from a house I've fallen in love with.

First- in my own defense- let me emphasize that "reminds me of" does not mean "smells like", and there is a big difference. With that out of the way- this instantly, and after 3 hours still, reminds me of Yesterday Haze by Imaginary Authors. I realize that the pyramids don't look alike, and I also admit that this impression is my 1st wear, but my nose and brain says this is woodier and less sweet; also more natural and more discreet, but definitely a relative (if not a sibling then certainly a first cousin) of Yesterday Haze (which I own and love). I like it. I will update after subsequent wears if I decide my nose was crazy tonight. *EDIT- second wear: Still can't shake the YH connection, and I figured out why- it's the combo of creamy and dusty, along with some nuttiness, and they both have what I perceive as an effervescent fuzzy fizzy buzz -that may be more of a chemical reaction than an olfactory impression, I'm not sure. This one is greener and woodier, and evokes a surreal vision of nature. Just like YH I'm loving this one in the high heat.

Woody pine cypriol... This weird and very interesting indeed! It's like a green but woody blend mingles with smoke (comes from grilled chestnuts), mastic, labdanum, & violet leaves. It is sour, yet woody green. It has something animalic in it somehow but more plant based animalic notes. Interesting. Edit (31st Dec 2022) Very interesting indeed! i get that moist chestnut in-between violet leaves, cypriol, mastic, lapdanum, pepper, powdered woods, touch of chili, & sandalwood. The colder the prettier it gets. Beautiful. Edit (19th Aug 2023) Ok, today i sniffed it and i am becoming infatuated by this animalic beauty! it is very much like Arabian Mamool, bokhoor mix! & i believe this is one of the smooth animalic blends that you could wear and makes people around you admire you wildly and insatiably! i mean the mastic, cedar, sandalwood, gaiac wood, pines, and vetiver makes it insatiably addictive. very smooth, very harsh, and yet very beautiful! if anyone hates it and wants to give it up, then i am here to call :) Beautiful indeed.

I was skeptic. But when I sprayed it on. Omg. This is so warm, woody, and green fresh. But has smoke to it. I love it. No brainer full bottle. It’s an easy reach for me tbh. This reminds me vaguely of someone’s scent maybe because of the violet and vetiver. Been bugging him on what’s his perfume or lotion but no luck in finding it out lol. It’s not exactly it but bête humane is more robust, moody, and just hypnotizing. I’m becoming a huge fan of this house. It’s so under-appreciated and it’s maybe just because Blanche bête that some ppl know about it. But this is just majestic. Unique. Ethereal but dangerous. Like a D&D character lol. Its nuances are molded into perfection, well blended, thought out. Signature Scent. I literally moan ... and I feel like cigarette smoke compliments this perfume. I’m obsessed. For now this is my signature scent. This week. Opening is just perfection. Fresh Spicy and then it dries down to this beautiful darker woody presence that’s just glows around you. Amazing Mystical forest nymp 9.7/10

Bête Humaine is what I wanted from Eldo Frustration (I like eldo as well). Humaine is a great chestnut fragrance which is slightly sweet, has green accords, pine tree (to my nose it's like pine tree balm) cypriol, labdanum and cumin. It's sweet but just like the autumn leaves in the woods. It's like the sweet and mysterious dead-scent of the woods, if you know what I mean. I was surprised how chestnut is so obvious in this. Love this one. Longevity and sillage is moderated. Nobody will kill you if they do not like it. First time I tried it out in 3 Celsius and it was vibrating on my skin. Will try it again, I think it is for all seasons but this cold makes it to be wonderful, it's sure. Completely unisex.

When I first wore this perfume, my sister said, “You smell like dirt.” And honestly, she wasn’t wrong but in the most beautiful way! It smells like a forest after rain. Earthy, green, slightly damp, with a soft sweetness lingering quietly in the background. It’s not too loud or flashy. It's Grounded. Peaceful, but in a very unique way. It has become one of my most worn perfumes. I often overspray just to sink deeper into it. It feels like wearing calm, like disappearing into the woods and finding yourself there.

First impression and basic review upon first wear: the leather aspect of it reminds me woody version of ombre leather with some fresh spices.Sometimes i get really smoky impression from it, then im thinking if i was smoking and dont remember it?! I bought 100ml for 140 euros, what is good quality for this prize. Its is not really earthbreaking fragrance, but its charming. (If you need it, im selling full bottle)

The dry down has this magical sweet smoke. The nuttiness is warm and woody. Kind of naughty/sweat/sweet/sexy maybe from the cumin? It's like waking up in and the empty pillow still smells like the man that slept there the night before ...and the spot is still warm. Liking this way more than I thought I would. Why isn't this talked about more?

Such a wonderful, calming fragrance! I do agree with the other reviewers that it gives the impression of leather, I think the leatheriness and the sweetness come from the labdanum. It is a unique woody scent, signature scent worthy. Performance is good.

A unique woody and fragrant perfume with a dominant oak scent is very fragrant and high quality. I love the perfumes of this house, it really makes unique imaginary perfumes

Bête Humaine is...gorgeous and delicious and one of those scents which is full of perfectly balanced contradictions. I've sampled a lot of raved about luxury niche decants lately which I have thoroughly enjoyed, but this fragrance is the only full bottle that I must have. It's unisex. Very well blended and mostly linear. On my skin and to my nose, It's a creamy, woody violet leaf/orris. When I say it's delicious, what I mean is that it feels sweet yet it truly has no sweetness. (?!) It almost feels like toasted wheat to me in a way. It's cozy and extremely wearable, but somehow wildly adventurous at the same time. The dry, woody cypriol and guaiac wood mixed with violet leaf, mastic and what I perceive as tree sap create something adjacent to a very dry vanilla without quite being vanilla. A reviewer below described it as chewy, and yes, it is chewy. Sebastian Jara of The Perfume Guy described cypriol as 'similar to cedar, but as if cedar were pulverized into a fine dust, then mixed with earth and stored in an old library'. Such a good description of that note, which I don't see listed in perfumes very often and couldn't have picked out before I heard him describe it in such an accurate and artistic way. I've never smelled anything like Bête Humaine and I highly recommend it. Looking forward to seeing how it will wear in warmer weather, but it's also perfect for right now. I went to an orchid show yesterday, and some of the fragrant orchids reminded me a bit of how it smells. That creaminess adjacent to a vanilla bean yet not quite, almost floral yet not really. There was also an orchid variety that didn't have any fragrance which visually reminded me of Bête Humaine, labeled as a 'Cymbidium hybrid'. This particular variety's flowers had waxy light oliveish green (!) petals with a white and ultraviolet-magenta speckled interior. I'll add a photo that I captured to the fragram as reference because those colors will forever be what I picture when I inhale this gem.

This is a nice fragrance with intimate performance. It will be a great sweater weather date night fragrance when you are getting close to someone. The initial spray reminded me of Lagerfeld Classic and Gray Flannel at the same time, but that was soon taken over by the woods and cumin. Not sure if it is strong or distinctive enough yet for a full bottle, but it's a solid like.

Nutty green cumin. The chestnut gives it this depth, warm and richness -- the cumin gives it that animalic sweaty body thing, all surrounded woody (in a foresty way) notes. The cypriol gives it a little puckeriness too. I don't know when I'd reach for this or that I would, but objectively smelling on blotter, I am intrigued.

Update on my previous review: I realized today that this smells very, very similar to Imaginary Authors O, Unknown!. O, Unknown! goes just a bit nuttier and Bête Humaine is slightly greener and seems more concentrated/has better longevity, but wearing them side by side blew my mind just now because they are so alike.

Interesting as a same,but definitely not a full bottle scent especially for Women.

It opens with this warm, green aroma from the chestnut, giving a nutty sweetness that feels both comforting and natural. Then comes the violet leaf, bringing a fresh, slightly watery and ozonic uplift with a clean quality. As it develops, I get a slightly warm balsamic resinous touch from the mastic, adding a cedar like depth to the composition. I don’t pick up a heavy dose of cumin here.. instead, there’s just a subtle touch that gives the fragrance a sense of being “alive” without ever feeling too sweaty or overwhelming. The woody notes come through clearly, especially cedar, alongside a gentle creaminess from sandalwood. Everything feels smooth, clean, and well balanced. It’s rounded yet maintains enough contrast with the darker notes to avoid becoming plain. The papyrus and cypriol add a slightly smoky yet green aroma, giving the scent dimension. The Haitian vetiver at the base offers a clean, airy, and slightly earthy quality, which I find more fitting here than Javanese vetiver, which would have added an overly dusty smokiness. I don’t detect guaiac wood distinctly, but the overall blend carries its characteristic resinous woody effect. The star of the composition for me is the pine tree note, which creates a deep forest atmosphere, drawing you entirely into its world. Overall, this perfume feels warm, calm, comforting, green, aromatic, slightly earthy, and airy, with a subtle smokiness in the background that never becomes overwhelming. It supports the warm energy of the scent beautifully. I imagine it in the fall a dark, dense forest with heavy fog in mid November, the ground slightly wet from rain yet the air still feels warm and inviting. (Quite abstract but you get the picture) I don’t believe perfumes must be worn in a particular season, but this one evokes Fall so vividly that I can’t help but associate it with that time. I’ll be honest it’s not my usual style, as I tend to prefer dirtier, smokier, leathery, and animalic scents. Still, I appreciate what it offers. It’s quite a nice and well constructed perfume. But honestly I feel like this is leaning more feminine rather than unisex but that's subjective of course... I won't buy full bottle but I do appreciate it

Les Liquides Imaginaires always made this gothic impression on me, and I wasn't wrong. At least how I perceive a gothic style. Bête Humaine is the newest release by this French house, and to make it clear its the very first fragrance I've tried from the house. So I can't say if it fits within the profile of the house or not. Sniffing the scent from the bottle I first thought it would be a fresh fragrances, because of this sharpness. After spraying it on, I realised what it was... its the cumin and mastic. Both of these notes are fresh spicy. Its the opposite of notes such as cinnamon. After the initial 'freshness', the woody green character of the scent kicks in. It's like going through the wilderness, a rainy forest with wet soil. This is the part I don't like that much. For me its still too edgy, too sharp. Eventhough the guaiac wood is listed as a base note, it adds to this middle. Its balsemic, smoky and leathery. After an hour the sharpness is polished leaving a very smooth scent profile. This is were the base notes are most prominent and dominent. Vetiver, the pine and cypriol for the mature greenness, mixed with papyrus and sandalwood for the smooth creamness. So for me the gothic style I mentioned before is something that is unorthodox, cold and dark, but after the initial sharpness and scare it turns out pretty warm. Bête Humaine is not a safe buy, it way too edgy for that. So I definitely recommend sampling first.

Meh .. The opening of violet leaves, mastic, chestnut, brings me back to the 90s of Minotaure, Best company, sweet bakery whiffs in a powdery texture. But above all cedar and chamomile at Dolce & Gabbana. Against an all woody background, sweet of cumin, strong of exotic cypriol, sometimes smoky of vetiver and guajac. Wild but rounded. It has dangerous notes for my personal tastes, (strong cedar and sour violet leaf, hard at a short distance), but nevertheless I get a discreet, balanced trail that is never offensive. Sliding.
