Lacrima Eau de Parfum

Might be scary after first or second application, but once you give it a bit to settle down on the skin it really is a beautiful fizzy resinous incense with lasting power of a parfum and moderate projection (respectable scent bubble size that stays for a good 3 - 4 hours). Try it in cooler weather and give it some time before you consider scrubbing it off. It's a serious scent that i'm in love with. I would love to try more from this house. Layers well with the spiced and sweet vanilla-woods of Lattafas Al noble Ameer I think grapefruit would compliment this fragrance greatly in the dry down. Might have to try layering it with a scented lotion, D&G light blue forever, or similar. Hard to find a grapefruit scent that lasts as long as this fragrance performs.. Performance has been consistent at over 7 hours

This beauty artfully merges two scents that I have never fully appreciated, and significantly improves upon both in my opinion. Initially, it starts off as your typical incense-centered fragrance, then it slowly evolves and evokes memories of La Liturgie des Heures. After some time, the scent gradually transforms, resembling Autoportrait but with a smokier and creamier finish. The rosewood is both creamy and delicious, and I'd like to believe there's a bit of myrrh in this one too. Afterwhile a slight pencil shavings accord emerges, along with dry incense, and that’s where it remains for the majority of its life. Castoreum shows up in the late dry down, but it’s inoffensive, acting more as a leathery smoky nuance. Overall, a delight to wear.

Lacrima is calm, quite linear, and melancholic. To my nose, this perfume is a close relative of Contre Bombarde 32 by Filippo Sorcinelli, a fragrance I love deeply. Lacrima starts fresh and spicy but quickly turns into a beautiful, not overly complicated balsamic, dusty, and a bit sweet fragrance with a moderate depth. I am not a fan of how Lacrima starts which reminds me a bit of LAVS which for me bursts with the chlorine water smell at the beginning. I consider buying Lacrima for days when I don't want prominent sweetness in my fragrance - just a soft, melancholic, and balsamic bubble around me.

This is what I wished Squid by Zoologist Perfumes smelled like. My summary of that perfume was "salt and pepper calamari; church; a brothel: and very distinctly in that order." The opening of Squid seared my nose and then felt like it transitioned in very distinct phases through its middle and base notes; with Lacrima the pink pepper, elemi, benzoin and castoreum all feel well-dosed and harmonious, sweet, cold, and smokey at the same time. Where Squid in its angularity felt too masculine for me, Lacrima with its blurred focus feels unisex. It's also got good longevity without being overwhelming.

I love this, like others have said, it smells like an old catholic church. The balance between warmth and cold dead materia is sublime, reminiding me of how it smells when the sun has heated up cobbler stone. On me, the opening is strong and deep, filled with smoke, incense and notes of gun powder. Sadly it fades quite fast on my skin, but before it goes away some sweeter more suddle notes opens up an addictive and memory evoking scent- profile.

The only fragrance that’s made me audibly moan on first sniff. They laced this with something holy. Insane staying power, great projection. Dark, smokey, resinous, animalic, sexy, irresistible. 9.5/10 only because it might come across as a funky body odour smell... should go without saying: don’t use fragrance as a substitute for a shower or deodorant.

@sables19 already has done the best review below, almost nothing to add. I just can say it's all-at-once revealing and intense, such a beautiful and incomparable drama in a bottle... Lightning in the dark blue sky and tears of joy, then almost immediate peace of mind and tender intimate meditation... with projection to die for!

I grabbed this at a good deal as a promo during a fragrance website sale and I am so glad I did. I love incense fragrances and consider myself pretty well versed, the addition of the castoreum in this adds a richness and deepness that keeps me smelling my arm. It has a very churchy vibe but it’s dark and alluring. Soo soo good

It's delightful, balanced, the perfect sacred incense that evokes catholic funerals, sadly, the projection is quasi absent. If it wasn't so close to the skin, this would be my forever fragrance, sadly I'll have to find something similar with some more projection to it.

A very bitter and smoky perfume, very fragrant, very balanced and beautiful. This fragrance is completely professional, well-made and without flaws If you are a fan of bitter and special perfumes, lacrima is the best choice

Most churchy and mysterious fragrance ever! It beats even Montale - Full Incense on this matter. It is linear with moderate projection and longevity but what a great scent! I think biblical angels smell very close to it.

A sister-fragrance to Sancti from the same house: warm, sweet and gentle incense-based waves of loveliness! My partner scented it approvingly on the air from the neighbouring room, so its sillage is fine too!

Fantastic smoky and resinous scent, soft and balmy, with a nice woody chypre base and good lasting power. And dont't worry: no beaver in sight! I can't even smell the slightest whiff of castoreum, nada..

Lacrima, Latin for Tears... An interesting name for a very interesting fragrance. I traded for Lacrima blindly after having read the notes and being a fan of Sancti, initially I was severely disappointed but after a few wears on skin and spending some time sitting with Lacrima I feel a bit differently. I should start by saying that "church incense" fragrances are my most loved and most worn. With that being said it takes quite a bit to suprise me with that very specific scent profile. Initially upon smelling Lacrima I was almost sickened, there's an almost skanky body odor-ish funk that immediately hits my nose on first whif. The liturgical high church incense that I know and love is there as well but that stank was something new for sure. While pepper would make sense as the culprit I think it may be the castoreum but I am a bit unsure. I am pleased and surprised to say that after about 20 minutes the fragrance begins to dry down and change into something that is much more recognizable. Lacrima settles in a very heavy church incense, this is much heavier than Avignon, Full Incense, Cardinal, and the usual suspects. Lacrima does have some lasting power which is rare in its genre. I believe that skanky note during the opening settles down and creates a sort of base for the incense to sit on allowing this fragrance to perform quite a bit better than it's competition. Lacrima isn't a fragrance I'd feel comfortable wearing anywhere I would have to considers others noses. Although after drying down it does become much more tolerable at no point is it mass appealing. Fall and Winter, Nights. Unfortunately this is a very time and place specific fragrance. I own a lot of fragrances that are very similar to Lacrima so I have to ask myself what separates it? When will I choose Lacrima over similar fragrances? The answer is simple. When it's cold and I want to wear something that provides that traditional church incense scent BUT need something with some staying power AND I have 30 mins to allow for dry down... - Overall: 6.5/10 - Fall, Winter. I definitely get a leathery castoreum, to me it's the second most prominent accord after the frankincense & elemi. This is an interesting take on church incense because it takes it into sultry dirty territory while also maintaining a strict liturgical feel. Also isn't dusty or stuffy like church incense accords can get, I like that there's no florals and focuses on deep wood & incense. Feels equally modern and old world catholic. Xerjoff zefiro is similar in that they're both church incense focused, but zefiro is dawn, crisp incense and gentle florals, and lacrima is dusk, concentrated woody incense leaning into darkness

Really really interesting one from LLI. It has this gothic feel to it and actually reminds me of the smell of an old classroom. Like the pages of a very old notebook. Not in a bad way though. Its a dark and brooding perfume. Not really a crowd-pleaser per se unless that crowd of people is into deep and dark aromatic incense fragrances. It’s very very aromatic and aldehydic. The opening is very pungent and singes the hairs of your nose like a cleaner of some sort but it dries down so beautifully and really shines about 2 hours in. I really like it!! I’ll give this one an 8/10 Exceptional creativity and originality.

An under-reviewed scent. Perhaps the Dario Argento-esque name Lacrima is deterring some adventurers. It's pretty simple: sticky elemi bottomed out with a little benzoin. Beautiful, resinous, chewy, some smokiness but inhaling this in deep huffs feels both calming and healing. It does have that slightly soapy, tea-like quality that some other Liquides Imaginaires such as Sancti have. I like the addition of castoreum giving it a very mild animalic tweak but so gentle it's barely there.

Funny you can read it La Crima or Lacrima both reminiscent of sin and sorrow. The perfume starts out with powerful frankincense. 5 minutes in and it became pungent and put offish but then magic happens it becomes smoky with notes of star anise. It winds down into a creamy oud mixed with soap (must be the elemi). Decent fragrance, as we are used by now from Les Liquides Imaginaires.

I once found an abandoned Orthodox church in Albania, Dhermi. It was obviously more dusty and damp but apart from that smelled exactly like Lacrima. It's a memory fragrance to me but on a more general note, it is exactly that - a mysterious Orthodox church; empty but still filled with incense and prayers. It's a bit suffocating but more wearable than I expected. Potentially one of the best 'churchy' fragrances for this vibe lovers. I wouldn't call it leaning to any gender but then it's difficult to think of gender when you're smelling something conceptual.

Wow wow ⚡⚡ Deep woody ambery meditative linear and Statement maker. Truely catholic or Church vibes. It's not for young dudes to chill Obviously. I didn't find it Challenging Dry down is gorgeous 🤩 Performance. Is average. Considering Price to Value ratio Lattafa Hala seems better choice. 7/10 "Big like"

Opus 1144 made me think i liked elemi, this made me realize i don’t

I bought this by accident in a bundle deal. Yeah I've never hated a fragrance before until now. If you are looking to trade, or get a bottle hit me up. Its full, and has only been sprayed once which was one spray to many for me.

I am more of a sweet, mainstream, young guy (23). This is not my type at all. A scrubber in fact. Quite polarizing.

I am 10 years old and in the passenger seat of my father's car. It's a Sunday night. We pull into the gravel parking lot of the small, country church my dad attends twice a week, but me only sparingly. I am afraid. The preacher is always yelling about the end of times, about fire and about the smell of sulfur, about sealing the exits of the building shut so that we can stay and worship forever in God's house, in anticipation of His coming wrath on the outside world. We come through the flood-damaged wooden doors and enter into the small sanctuary. Bright red, stained carpet on the the floors and the pews. Wood panelling all along the walls. We sit in silence as the choir sings How Great Thou Art. I don't want to be here. The offering plate is passed and my dad drops in a handful of change. The preacher begins. He is filled with a righteous anger. A passion for things still unknown to me. He dabs his forehead with a handkerchief and asks the sparse crowd if any of them wants to be saved from Hell. A young girl walks up and hands are laid on her. My dad cries in the pew next to me.

This is that church incense scent profile you've probably smelled many times before if you've been around the block in the likes of CdG Avignon, Jovoy La Liturgie des Heurs, Heeley Cardinal, etc. BUT with a twist. The twist is a little bit of skank that I assume is coming from the castoreum. It manifests not as anything super pungently animalic but more as kind of a spicy funk, something I may have otherwise assumed was coming from a cumin or coriander or something like that were it present in the notes list. Definitely enough of a twist on this DNA to make it worth having even if you've already got your church incense slot filled by something else. Performance is pretty mild, it's a light skin scent by about 4 hours in with 30-45 minutes or so of a scent bubble that you can pick up on yourself, but for the price you can get it for I don't take too much issue with that. Solid option for the money!

Skin test at Jovoy's (Paris), as I try to follow a strict "try before buy" discipline - otherwise I would have blind-bought this upon reading the reviews calling this a fantastic church-like incense. On my skin the initial blast is 100% super harsh pencil shavings ; after 2 hrs it transitions into... more pencil shavings - somewhat less harsh, but still very unpleasant. Closest to this is Bentley for men Absolute, which is also 100% pencil shavings to me. Morality : damn my skin chemistry I suppose.

Interesting to see people voting that this reminds them of Avignon and Reve d'Ossian. To me, this is something totally different. Charred woods, ashes. It smells old and forgotten. Not a trace of freshness or sweetness in this gothic masterpiece. I quite enjoy it and find it unique in my big collection of smoky, woody and incensy perfumes.

This is strong. Probably alone here but it’s got this dated opening that’s like an aldehyde and anis cola. Anyone familiar with Sweet Anthem? It’s the smell of a aldehydic champagne note similar to Caroline by SA and...a soda / rootbeer note like Tabu??? Definitely this airy mossy feel of Guerlain too.

Truly a gothic scent; ritualistic, mystical, dark and melancholic. It would probably be a very bad thing to say, but this is what funeral would smell like, because i smell white lilies and benzoin/elemi resinous incense... There is this sweet coldness present in this scent.

Salt, pepper, cardboard, smoke. I swear there are grape skin tannins in the opening, but they are quickly enveloped in thick smoke. Later, pencil shavings emerge. Very mature and serious and indifferent.

Is it just me or the scent is VERY close to the skin the whole time? No big sillage. I thought it was stronger, but still smells great. Very churchy indeed. But Avignon is still better in my opinion.

If anybody loves the smell of frankincense oil definitely give this one a shot. It smells like your squeezing the sapp right from the tree!
