Douceur de Vanille

I was reading the reviews below and so surprised to see so many dislikes. I’ve been wearing this for a couple weeks now. I think it is a gorgeous light, delicate vanilla. Prior to reading here I smelled a light powdery vanilla, with most the emphasis on the vanilla. After seeing almond in the notes and mentioned in reviews, I can pick up on almond (barely), but it’s definitely in the background for me. I don’t get baby powder either. If I think hard while smelling my arm (sounds weird lol), I get delicate vanilla on delicate powder that has some almond nuances. I find it delicious and comforting. I spray myself with this all the time while at home. One thing of note, I’ve been super into powdery fragrances lately. Something about this crazy world has me finding comfort in powdery scents. I definitely think that may contribute to me not finding this very powdery? I think my nose is fairly used to smelling somewhat stronger powder puff perfumes.

This fragrance starts somewhat discordant, like a jam session that doesn't quite take off. As it dries down a bit you can hear the gears click into place and then, MAGIC!Powdery and fluffy, with bits of musk and amber that are so well blended you'll think they are one note. I have tried most of the Loukhoum scents out there, and most of them scratched my itch but didn't quite satisfy me, Douceur is exactly what I needed. Itch scratched.

I totally agree with Gosha: I can't detect the vanilla, the rose, the almond...it's indeed very musky and powdery, a sort of soapy and powdery musk, similar to my nose to Alyssa Ashley Musk! But it's cute and easy to wear. I prefer A.A. Musk anyway, because it's more intense and long lasting!

Baby powder and sugar cookies. This perfume has no sex appeal whatsoever, but it’s incredibly comforting, like a hug from your grandma or cradling a baby. The sillage isn’t strong, so it’s very inoffensive as well. If you’ve ever smelled Avon’s Sweet Honesty, this is something like it.

I love this gorgeous juice and have nearly finished a bottle. She is a beautiful soft, delicate scent on my skin. The first time I wore this I couldn't smell it at all but now I can smell it very well for long time. I'll be repurchasing sometime ❤

I like this fragrance: this is a smooth, warm, conforting scent that vaguely reminds me of L of Lolita Lempicka (that I love). On me the longevity is average and it stays near the skin.

I would call this a skin scent. A faint wisp of a perfume that takes time to develop on me. When first smelt from the bottle and initial application it comes across as very medicinal but after a few minutes it evolves and reveals it true self. I smell a lovely concoction of vanilla and sweet chocolate tinted with rose. No star anise at all appears to me. Perhaps the star anise was responsible for the initial medicinal whiff. Sillage is very close to the skin even after a copious amount was applied. Longevity about four hours so far. It's good for days that you just want to kick back and relax with something unobtrusive. It's also perfect of you want to change your scent in the middle of the day since its so faint about almost anything would cover it. It's a slightly sweet and delicate scent, something I would picture Beth from Little Women wearing. I have a 30ml bottle and although its not a must to buy again when finished, the jury is still out on whether I won't. Right now I've got my tee shirt flipped over my face enjoying the soft envelope of this beauty.

The review is based on the tester from Lucky Scent which is a reliable source according to my experience with them. This is an uncomplicated fragrance which opened up on my skin with the notes of oranges and citrus even though they are not even listed for this perfume. Initially it was a bit of a turn off for me, but after a few minutes, the orange notes were gone and almonds came through - pure unadulterated almonds like the ones L'Occitane is using in their body lotions. Then, the drydown revealed vanille. And not the creamy round kind of vanille but sharp and cologne like vanille. I would say, this is definitely worth a try if you like vanilla- based scents but for me it was just did not have enough complexity. also it was gone off my skin in about two hours - a pity since I could use some vanilla-induced comfort a little longer.

This is a go-to for when I don't want to offend anyone, or will be in a room for a while, or don't want to smell like I usually do, i.e. like a heavy oriental scent fanatic. This is a sweet cloud of powdery vanilla, not overpowering, not gourmand. In summer it's much more vanillic, but still very pleasant. A scent your partner's mum can approve of, won't spoil a dinner or cause allergies. I realise I've said all things it won't do, but this is a comforting, pretty fragrance. vaniglia molto muschiata, quasi fresca, che nel tempo evolve verso un accordo polveroso. delle altre note presenti nella piramide olfattiva (mandorla, rosa, anice stellato) per me non c'è neppure l'ombra. nel suo complesso mi ricorda molto una linea di prodotti diffusa in italia negli anni 80 (il cui brand adesso è associato a detersivi per bucato) ossia spuma di sciampagna (sic!) il cui odore pareva una versione polverosissima di borotalco roberts.

I have had this on my perfume shelf for a couple of years.I Blind bought it on line and for my disappointment i didn't like it ....but i just couldn't give it away.From time to time i give it a try.Sometimes it seems baby powder. Some days it smells like Baby Johnson Oil.But some times (like right now )it's sweet and very comfortable.I just don't know when to wear it:-))

This is rose-scented baby powder on my skin. For me, the opening is a rose blast, followed by the doll-like baby powder scent. I never get vanilla or cacao. This is innocently feminine and delightfully delicate, which means it's not at all my style; but it's a lovely scent anyway.

Smells like sweet powder without too much dustiness. Very comforting. Great if you like to wear baby powder. I kinda like it. -

This is a wallop of cotton candy ethyl maltol to begin with, flossy pink and fluffy in a way that I usually cannot stomach. However, it soon mellows into more delicate and demure vanilla. It's not particularly deep, but it's creamy and pale, dusted with confectioner's sugar and the suggestion of Orgeat syrup with rose water, but I sort of wish this was more centered in the composition. Overall, it's just far too sweet for my taste. Vaniglia del Madagascar from I Profumi di Firenze is a far more fulfilling vanilla fragrance, favoring naturalistic nuance over polka-dotted comfit.

Hmmm. This started off with sharp aldehydes and sour rose on my skin, but as it's warmed up, it really transformed. My husband is only smelling baby powder. I'm getting slightly powdery playdoh vanilla. It's not bad but it's not knocking my socks off either. I'm not detecting any cocoa or anise, which I'm actually ok with. This is definitely a playdoh almond to me. The price is reasonable but there are better vanilla/almond combos out there. I'd rather save up a little more for Farmacia SS Cara. Edit: the aldehydes are too strong for me. I tried my sample two more times and the aldehydes are overwhelming me.

I received this as a sample in a Vanilla sampler from STC and this one is a huge NO for me. It is a baby powder bomb. It smells like a cross between baby powder and an elderly woman scent. It's not that I'm totally apposed to a little bit of a powdery scent but I think it's the rose combined with it in this that's so off putting for me. There needs to be something more substantial holding powder down like something woody. I am enjoying some of the other vanilla samples however. Oh well you win some you lose some.

There's something in here that turns into powdery baby wipes on me. I get lots of fluffy baby powder and baby wipes. It eventually dries down to a fluffier and softer powder, sort of like dried out soap, but it's still mega white powder all the way. It's not sweet either. I don't get much vanilla, which is what I wanted. Oh well!

I don't have much to say about it except I agree with other reviewers, its just baby powder. Not at all what I was expecting from the top 3 notes being almond, vanilla & chocolate. This one is not for me.

Powdery vanilla with a hint of rose.

Les Nereides Douceur de Vanille has grown on me over the last few days. This is an ultra-feminine, clean and powdery interpretation of vanilla and almond. This fragrance reminds me of a baby, possibly due to its familiar powdery aroma. Douceur de Vanille is the epitome of softness; the type of fragrance you would wear in the presence of a small child or as a bed-time scent to help soothe a tired mind. Despite my growing adoration for powdery fragrances, I admittedly prefer a more animalistic, vintage-esque fragrance similar to Madame Rochas or Chanel's No. 22 EDT. Douceur de Vanille is a tame, delicate scent with light projection and a crowd-pleasing vanilla accord. I long for a heavy musk note or a hint of woods to ruffle this fragrance's feathers. The scent pyramid implies that this fragrance has gourmand tendencies, however, the cacao and anise notes barely feature, (at least not on my skin). The vanilla and almond accords reign supreme, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that there are much nicer almond-vanillas on the market. Laura Mercier's Eau Gourmande Almond Coconut is one example of a similar scent that is executed perfectly. Douceur de Vanille has average longevity and soft projection. If I happened to own a bottle of this fragrance, I would most likely wear it as a bed-time scent as I find its cleanliness quite relaxing and subdued enough for a decent night's sleep.

This has been compared to baby oil by more than one tester. I have to say, it is far more than that...Douceur de Vanille is a day at the beach- complete with baby oil for tanning, Desitin for baby bottoms and noses, melted chocolate almonds in a waxed paper bag, wild beach roses, salt air, warm squashed fruits, and sweating bottles of cream soda. Despite all this, DdV is not heavy or gourmand. This is not the powder of Flora Bella by Lalique or the candy of Montale's Chocolate Greedy, however, it may be the delicate and devastatingly beautiful sister of "L" by Lolita Lempicka. Instead, DdV is elusive, giving the wearer just a weaving glimpse of some uncertain seaside memory. I only wish it lasted a bit longer, but likely that is part of its allure. Like others, I find something hauntingly familiar about this perfume. For me, perhaps it is the scent of past days at my grandparents' beach house. It is sure to hold a memory for you, as well....

From the bottle the scent smells quite delicious. I think comparisons with L de LL seem quite in place, since the fragrances share some of the notes and the first impression is very similar. However, the difference kick in later. While L develops quite nicely and turns out to be a delicious almond cookie, Douceur de Vanille remains quite flat and lacking. Unfortunately, there was no star anice there for me, but a tiny dose of cocoa and vanilla; it's quite powdery and pleasant, it's also a rather quiet scent keeping close to the skin. It followed me all the way from the store to my place creating a cozy, safe atmosphere. It is a bit disappointing though. As I already said, it's quite flat and after some time you realise that vanila and cocoa is all there is to it really, the lasting power is not fantastic either.

This is a gentle, comforting, simple, soft, clean scent. Frankly I can't detect any of the listed notes, all I am getting here is musk and baby powder indeed. It is very modest when it comes to projection, but on me it lasts long hours in a placid, innocent way - I just keep thinking on this exceptionally sunny, warm day - that I am sooooo clean! :-) I am feeling fresh and good smelling! Hours and hours later having spent the day madly running bounty of errands, I still feel I smell like I have just stepped out of a shower. Or - indeed - that I have just spent the day lazying on a sunny beach smothered in baby oil. :-) After several hours the fragrance is still detectable as gentle puffs of rose finally start emerging on me. Very easy and likable.

My dear friend Scorpiosheep gifted me a bottle of Douceur de Vanille for my birthday, and upon testing today, I've found it to be a very pretty perfume. Unlike other reviewers, I seem fortunate to get a soft vanilla upon first application, which yields to a musky powder after about 20 mins, with gentle wafts of vanilla seeping through. There is just a slight suggestion of spice in the background but the almond seems the more dominant note. Overall, I like it very much and will find it most appropriate to wear at work as it is pretty and comforting with minimal silage, great for cramped meeting rooms! I am not sure what's in my decant, but it smells almost entirely of powder. Powder and a smidge of not vanilla, but vanilla sugar. That really fake/milky sugar you can buy in the European stores. Probably a musk woodsy thing too, but I hardly get any vanilla. Whatever this is, it is very interesting. ETA: if you don't know what vanilla sugar is, and don't have access to it, it looks like a tiny bag of Fun Dip we get in the USA. If you haven't smelled it, it just smells a lot like vanilla pudding mix from Jell-O or a similar brand.

baby oil. lying in the sun trying to catch a tan, covered in baby oil. that is the impression that i get. (yes we used to do this back in the day...gasp) it eventually dries down to almost a vanilla scent, but if you do not like baby powder or baby lotion do not attempt this one. this would be great for people under the age of 20, or perhaps a gentle and quiet soul who would never harm a fly. too gentle for my liking.

SOOO Disappointed! I love true baby oil/lotion/shampoo scents, and had very high hopes for this based on the reviews. It smells like playdoh, which gives me a terrible headache. This is NOT for me. I just paid $95 for the large bottle from Lucky Scent and I sprayed it twice. Happy to part with this if anyone is interested. You can email me at [email protected]

This smells so good, I remember a perfume my late mother used to wear that had these same musky undertones, I cannot remember the name, but boy she smelled good. Now that she is gone, I like to wear this scent as a comforting reminder of her. Its absolutely gorgeous and soft my husband likes it too

Oh I really do enjoy applying this easy-to-wear,comforting scent on those days when I just want to feel uncomplicated and pretty. It is unobtrusive and simple but so capticating nonetheless. A gourmand that would suit an gentle, caring soul.

Has this been reformulated? This is still a fluffy light vanilla which has very little silage. But I remember it was a very delicate ethereal smelling and now it doesn't seem to have that charm. This is for the newer bottle.

Sweet vanilla frosting with slivered almonds, transitioning to a sweet almond paste play dough. Longevity maybe 3 hours, sillage low. Unremarkable and not really my style, but pretty.

Agree w/ Kmddstewart below. Sampled this one today but did not work for me. All I got was almondy baby powder...no vanilla or cacao sadly. Plenty of other, good vanillas in the sea.

Skinscent powdery vanilla. Pleasant, but not terribly interesting. Short lasting. On the fence about this one. This type of scent has been done better by others.

This opening is nice enough, soft vanilla. The dry down is Johnson's Baby Oil, at least on my skin. Not worth the purchase price of a full bottle.

It's a soft, warm vanilla, long lasting and special. Not sweet, not the plain vanilla fragrance, interesting perfume. I like it!

Pure, lovely, baby powder scent...slowly dries down to baby lotion. Must love baby powder/baby lotion. Comforting.

I do like this fragrance...but I don't smell almond, cacao or star anise.

It's very similar to Ava Luxe Angel's face. Very nice.
