Musc de Samarkand

I really love this scent - white musks are one of my absolute fave smells - but have to agree with the other reviews; it is not strikingly different from other white musks. Subtle differences do matter to me, though, and I loooove Musc de Samarkand. All it takes is one note of something I hate, and it ruins the whole perfume (example: the licorice in Lolita Lempicka, or a white musk with too much soapiness.) It does not smell exactly like Body Shop's White Musk to me - I actually like this better (that has a touch of something like banana, which I don't care for.) Nor does it smell like Love's Baby Soft, that is not one of my faves - it has always smelled cheap and slightly synthetic. Spray this perfume on, DON'T smell this from the bottle. Immediately on, it transforms into a cuddly, sweet white musk - no complexity, not that this is always important. It's good quality; unfortunately, not much lasting power. But beautiful and feminine; if you're cool with the price, it's worth it.

Initial blast is very a soapy and clean musk that settles into something more vanilla-centric. It wears very close to skin and is so light that it's nearly indetectible. A "your skin but better" scent, I suppose, but it's so subtle that, for me, it borders on bland. I guess subtle skin musk is some people's bag, though, and this is fine. EDIT: 2 hours in, and I've changed my mind. This is AMAZING. The scent has gone from "barely there" bland to a lovely, warm, baked-in vanilla cookie and flowers smell that is completely addictive. Give this one a chance to unfold. Keeping my bottle!

Lovely musky vanilla arounded with white flowers scent, clean and warm at same time. I believe it's a scent for all seasons, for summer too, because it's not very strong. And one more, very important thing happens: my hubby said this morning, when I hurried half naked from bathroom, " I like this scent, very nice, it suits you!" Oh, what a surprise!! How many words! He usually doesn't comment my scents, only when he's "forced"- "do you like it??? tell me!!!". Once again, thank you, Katarina.

I found in an old perfume a small supply of all those scents that Les Nereides Discontinued. Perfumes unavailable, a seduction are irresistible. So I bought one of each for me. Some scents of Les Nereides have the characteristic of disappointing at first spray, but then turn out to be delicious with the passage of time. So is this Musc de Samarkand. The first spray a banal moss, lots of soap. Then it becomes soft, close to the skin, it seems a natural smell, clean and sensual. That smell that gives the urge to sink his nose into the crook of his neck and aspire. And, oh! males adore this perfume! It is mild, but I use it along with sweet and intense vanillas and the result is... wow! :-)

*yawn* I like white musk, but I think of it as a basic. This attempts to dress it up and ask for $60. I just really don't see it as being worth that much. Yes, it's a nice white musk, but it doesn't really do much more. Yes, it has a nice drydown, but so do other white musks that are much less expensive. If the little nuances really make you want to spend twice as much, go ahead, but it doesn't smell different enough for me to justify paying that much more.

this is a beautiful, soft musk. it smells confident and sexy. it also smells EXACTLY like White Musk by the Bodyshop...save yourself a lot of money and just buy it from the Bodyshop. really, its a gorgeous smell.

The musk in this one is definitely quite nice and refined, but I'm not a big fan of the vanilla. I'll update if I change my mind later, but first impression is this is not one for my permanent collection.
