Oriental Lumpur

One of the most original and exciting scents I've tried in a long while. A decades-old review from Basenotes perfectly sums up my initial impression: "Ever move into a pre-owned home? Upon moving day you open up all the drawer and cupboards in the kitchen and without a doubt, you know which drawer was the spice drawer." Yep. Curry spices. Nutmeg, clove, fennel, turmeric, paprika, cinnamon, even oregano! Bone dry and woody. Powdery, medicinal, savory, exotic, strange, dirty, dusty, earthy. In the background, there are very faint hints of patchouli and amber, but they are wispy and fleeting. Natural smelling and totally romantic. Not something I'd wear often or even around other people necessarily. But this just landed on my wishlist.

Oriental Lumpur is to date my favorite offering from Les Nereides. From the subtle sweentess of the peppers and the hint of vanilla to the savory sparkle of nutmeg and patchouli and sandalwood burnishing, the dry spiciness is breathtaking and exotic. For someone who loves African/Middle Eastern spice profiles, this one is absolutely delicious. This is going on my MUST HAVE list for FB. Update: Longevity is great and sillage is good but not overpowering. I wore this yesterday and kept thinking what a wonderfully balanced fragrance it is, and how it would work equally well for man or woman. Love this one. This is extremely exotic and extremely refined. Elegant.

Wow, so good experience. Nice and mysterious fragrance. I’m in love just after first sniff. All spices are so well balanced that it smells very delicate but the silage is great. OL is also really long lasting fragrance. Slightly sweet and soapy, but these elements make OL wearable for all occasions and around the year. This is nothing like full of spices rich oriental fragrances. Also in my opinion OL is unlike any other cologne. A must try for perfume lovers.

On the more delicate side of spicy...no curry spices to my nose, an Oriental bouquet to conjure with. The nutmeg & vanilla make it a more feminine offering, rather than the dry masculine spices of Sahara Noir for instance. Not long lasting, but worth the effort.

For me this is hot peppers over a very mildly sweet spice. I get where people are saying soapy but I don't get the soap, just the clean. It is maddening in a good way. Well worth the cost and I love it on me but would probably rip the shirt off a man wearing it.

EXQUISITE! When they say there are Indian spices in Oriental Lumpur, they are NOT KIDDING. This is perhaps the spiciest perfume I've ever smelled after Opium, which I find just too dark, harsh, heavy, and perfumey. This is fresh and natural spices drying under the desert sun. It beats out Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain with regard to the sheer number of different spices found in the composition. There is a tang in this perfume that gives it a vegetal quality, like the perfect, green, habanero pepper. I smell everything else too, all the masala spices--cumin, coriander, saffron, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, black peppercorns, ginger--it's all there. I love the fact that the perfume is naturally and faintly sweetened by vanilla and saffron. It's not a sweet perfume though, so beware if you're hoping it will be creamy and sweet. It's more like a spice cabinet that's just been opened, and all the lids on the jars have been popped off. Oriental Lumpur is unequivocally captivating. There's nothing else like it.

On my skin it opens medicinal, not possible to distinguish particular notes, a mixture of spices very well prepared to bring this hospital tone. After ten minutes the cloves and nutmeg become more noticeable, bringing a slightly burnt smell, and leaving in the background that medicinal smell of opening. With rapid evolution in my skin, after thirty minutes, I feel the cloves and nutmeg, a touch chocolaty and creamy that I believe to be a result of the junction of patchouli and sandalwood. This remains for a few more hours now evolving slowly with spices, patchouli and sandalwood in perfect harmony. Vanilla appears at the end giving a sweet touch in the fragrance The scent is delicious, with a pungent, strong medicinal opening that evolves into a warm, creamy, smell. Weak sillage on my skin, and longevity 5 or 6 hours.

Oriental Lumpur showcases a panoply of all manner of spices that typify that of the exotified "orient"—cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, pimento, black pepper. Its opening reminds me very much of L'Eau or Eau Lente from Diptyque, which have already captured my heart. The difference with Oriental Lumpur from that of say, Eau Lente, however, is with the latter, all is anchored primarily with an opoponax whereas with the former, it is mostly patchouli with some sandalwood. It can't be denied that the warm pungency and deep, sweet woody dry down is quite lovely, but does not warrant any further attention from me as I am quite satisfied with the many spice-forward fragrances already part of my own library of scents.

Mostly cloves. What I was hoping for was cumin/turmeric. A loud, spicy fragrance like Jungle L'Elephant. Instead I find this earthy-clean. Cloves & saffron mixed with a chocolatey patchouli. Something slightly soapy. Which is nice in a way, because it's what makes this fragrance so unisex. To me, it actually leans more femme, but I am very sensitive to sweetness. On my skin it has a certain freshness so it could be an "all around" type of scent. Spicy, but not foody. Maybe not an ideal summer fragrance, but not un-wearable. Similar to Miller et Bertaux's Spiritus/Land #2 but sweeter and without the lemony mastic gum.

This fragrance is spicy, VERY SPICY! On the verge of being bland & uninteresting but there is a tad & I do mean a TAD bit of sweetness tucked somewhere in all of that concoction. It is also VERY DRY! I had a full bottle that a dear friend of mine gifted me but I hardly wore it & when I did it was around the house & it did not mix well with my skin chemistry, I seemed to have smelled of BO! Longevity is decent for that of an EDT, projection is average. I don't mind skank ( in a good way & i'm talking about you civet ;). but this is just disturbing to my nose. I sold my bottle after trying to adjust after 5 wearings. NO THANK YOU!

Ok, I'm sure I've smelled this scent before, I just can't figure where. I'm scratching and scratching my head, but one thing I'm coming to finally is that this reminds me of men's aftershave and not an expensive one. It's not that it's a bad scent per se, it's rather interesting and spicy as I like them, but I can't get past the men's aftershave thing enough to wear it in public. Still, this has an amazing staying power. I'm seriously impressed!

Here I have all the oriental spices spread on a chocolatey patchouli. In particular, very spicy nutmeg and cloves emerge. It has a sweet sandalwood undertone and a perennial, shrewd, simple vanilla. Medicinal at first dries rounder, powdery, warmer and still .. dull.

This is everything everyone has said. Spicy. Strong. It would be wonderful if not for how quick it turns soapy on me. I'm sad. But it was fun to sample. Thank you to Vie Cafe for the wonderful samples you sent. You are a darling! Yours are on the way this week!

Incence. Strong church incence is all that I get on my skin when I spray this perfume. Why am I so unlucky? I was looking for saffron, cumin that I love but got church incence that I, well, hate...

Les Néréides has my admiration for you can print sophistication through their simple and spontaneous creations. The big car-de-Seine House are the "Les Bijoux of Luxury", yes, the luxury jewelry that signed the economic pillars of the company, giving it recognition as well as passionate fans for their productions. In fragrances, Les Nereides managed to keep the same logic, work on the proposal for something unpretentious, but deep down, deep down, tame those who propose such a meeting; this is very common in fragrances House. East Lumpur opens awkwardly as if to nothing, just evolving a mess of spices on the skin, something that does not fit well with the proposal of an oriental fragrance spicy which is entitled, but is thing at the moment and soon-soon explodes with notes of very strong Nutmeg irritating the nostrils along with large doses of fresh Crocus permeate the aggressiveness of nuts assigning orientality fragrance. Following its evolution, Eastern Lumpur becomes pungent and rich with tons of spices thousand, all mixed and heated by sun rays and in each movement performed they intensify, go back and forth, causing daydream sometimes uncomfortable, but you do not want they never volatizem of your skin, it's crazy thing and through this phase. To finish complete at this stage appears a fresh, live Patchouli, even with your greenbacks leaves, freshly plucked from the earth, exhaling green tones while comforting his characteristic smell. The fragrance parting with a good gross sandalwood base with Saffron perceptions across time or another and many spices, except that here already and milder, so fair, aggressive nothing like in your heart. To appreciate Oriental Lumpur Les Nereides has to bear all his early astonishment and get through to its end, where profitability allows us a more conscious appreciation of what it actually is. niche perfume print a unique naturalness that only feeling to know; moderately fixed and projects beyond its fixation in its first 5 h! These comments are based on a single spritz on my arm from a tester. Immediately I was reminded of Paris, which I visited briefly earlier in the year. My brain was - is - confused. Did I actually smell this on someone in Paris, or is there something about the fragrance's deep, rich, clean/dirty ambiance that flicks a 'Paris' switch in my brain? (Paris is older, dirtier and smokier but more beautiful than my city.) I don't know, but it's a weird, tantalising experience that may mean that I will go back and back to Les Nereides until I buy a bottle. I will regret that because Oriental Lumpur is actually not really my style. This is too bold for me. It's been on my arm many hours now, and as many heavy orientals do, it's making me feel tired. I do appreciate that the spices are cold and do not reference curry, and the patchouli is well wrapped up in the spices and not too sweet and chocolate-y (thinking of Coromandel or Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights when I say that). Longevity and sillage are right up there. A fragrance that OL resembles, for me, is Dior's Dioressence, though that leans more in the direction of a chypre and than an oriental. I've had a large decant of Dioressence for years largely unworn, so that should be a sign that 50 mls of Oriental Lumpur would be a silly purchase. But that Paris association ... ! Anyway, a superb fragrance, absolutely signature-worthy and probably very sexy on the right person.

I admit, I am a sucker for spices. A perfume abundant in them is very likely to become my skin's and nose's best friends. I know Oriental Lumpur gets a lot of very mixed reviews. I heard everything starting from "Awful", "It smells like an Indian restaurant" to "Divine and different", and lots of things in between. It is an unusual scent for sure. People tend to say it is very foody, I actually dont quite agree. It is spicy, and makes me think of those amazingly colorful spice markets, where spice comes in all colours and you can get practically anything you could have ever wished for. I want to dip my hand in colorful powders and feel the texture. But, at the same time, I dont have an urge to eat raw spice! Oriental Lumpur therefore is not an 'edible' fragrance. Oriental Lumpur is BIG in saffron and nutmeg, an the patchouli also seems very prominent. Vanilla is quite different from what we usually get- not sweet, but dark, thick. it is not a fragrance that I would call sexy, I describe it in terms of being intriguing and mysterious. It is not a typical feel good fragrance, it is not particularly cosy, it has a heavier side to it, but I love it for its richeness and depth.

Weird, to say the least! It starts very tart to me, with spices coming in full speed! Interestingly, I smell sumak ( a red Persian spice, that is a little sour, a little spicy), saffron and aoud here. Absolutely no sweetness, and surely no vanilla, according to my nose; no curry either. Woods are very pronounced too. Basically the whole scent is woods and spices. Not much development, and the dryness of the whole concotion makes it not heavy either. To me, it evokes a woody ship from the middle ages, carrying spices from far away eastern lands, bringing them to Europe, to the amazement and delight of onlookers! Along with the smell of wood wet with salty water and spices, comes the noise, the color, and the smell and the adventures of the people from that ship. I see this fitting an exotic looking man, or a very adventurous woman, not afraid to be talked about and not to fit in. I am getting a big bottle of this! On a side note, it is more masculine than Imperial Opoponax, and not as strong and much less wearable... Thumbs up for originality though, I wish it had less salt and a little sweetness to it though. Last words about it: unusual conversation piece!

This is exactly what I had hoped it would be (I bought a bottle "blind"), and it represents what niche does best. That is, it's rich and natural smelling, with a central focus that is obvious and straightforward. You either like it or you don't. I think of "Indian spices" as curry or some masala dishes I've had, but this isn't all that much like them and instead it's a soft spice blend with subtle vanilla and sandalwood/incense. There's also a very mild herbal quality which I assume is the saffron. By contrast, Opium Pour Homme EdP, which I also really like, has strong vanilla and clove notes. What's great is that the spiciness never takes on a soapy character, which it does in fragrances such as JHL. It lasts a long time but projection ("sillage") seems to come and go. Some seem to think they must own L'Air du Desert Marocain, but that one becomes irritating after an hour or so. This one never does!

Every time I open my spice box to cook, I say to myself - "if only I could find a perfume that smells just like this...." and now I have. Saffron, lots of Saffron, turmeric, cumin, coriander - how did they capture the sweet undertone of coriander??? and yes, just a tiny hint of sweet vanilla in the drydown. Magnificent. Just splendid. L'artisan's Timbuktu is in the neighborhood, but some unpleasant and "perfumey" notes in Timbuktu - this Oriental Lumpur is all spice and nothing else. very very very foodie. Certainly a man could also wear this (it brings back the best memories of my dad teaching me how to cook) - very nice and spicy - but none of that horrible sharp, unpleasant myrtle that turns up in so many men's scents.

Lounging upon lush cushions, dining upon dainties, breeze wafting through gauzy curtains with an air of hot sand and rich spices. Twilight and veiled intrigue. The demure little librarian with her hair in a bun is a sex tigress beneath her jumper and sensible glasses. This is a fragrance full of secrets unfolding. A monent's fresh burst upon the first second of application gives way to saffron and nutmeg and cumin, warming with time into sandalwood with a wisp of patchouli. It is so artfully blended that each note blends seamlessly into the next. Despite the deep richness of the spices, it is not a brash, in-your-face scent, but one that gently opens and beckons others into its private world.

No one had reviewed this for more than 2 years! Well I became interested in collecting the entire Les Néréides collection and though I haven’t yet, I do have 4. One of those is one of my top ten fragrances (Oppoponax). I also really love Patchouli Antique and Fleur Poudrée de Musc. This too is very interesting and well done! I think this house is underrated and now all my favorites are discontinued! This one, the patch, the sweet myrrh and the fleur are all discontinued! What a bummer. Especially because I will eventually need backups. This one I probably have enough of though, for although it is interesting and gorgeous, I don’t seem to want to wear it very often.

my mom loves this fragrance, it's bold , still not in your face. It lasts all day. It starts with a strong spicy smell, not foody at all. It is quite exotic and the fragrance grows on your skin. It is not a masculine fragrance, though depends on taste I suppose. However, it is a cosy fragrance, taking you somehow back in time. It does smell soapy after good couples of hours, a nice fresh fragrance with sandalwood notes. I love the fragrance, especially as it dries on my skin.

LOve Love Love. What a wierd fragrance! Its smells so strange, if in a way it smells like a plant that grows in a field next my mother house, it has pizza wiff on it, maybe it has oregon in the notes somewhere. I would wear it as a perfume but just more like an olfatory experience. After a while develops for something like a man cologne mixed with sweat. Very sweet, oriental in a aromatic way I guess, fresh, mediterranean and unisex.

A strong dry spices opening where nutmeg and saffron play its main part then, quickly, a woody sandal/vanilla accord makes its appearance providing a slight dose of sweetness then, quickly, nothing. Rating: 4/10

Zafferano, lotti di zafferano, curcuma, cumino, coriandolo - come hanno catturato il undertone dolce di coriandolo??? e sì, appena un suggerimento minuscolo di vaniglia dolce splendido.
