Zephirine

Liberty Zephirine opens with a bold strike of cypress, sharp and aromatic, almost startling in its masculinity. For a moment I wondered if it might lean too far in that direction — I adore cypress trees, but the first hit was jarring. But then it shifts. Quickly. The cypress softens and steps back, becoming a whisper of freshness rather than the lead voice. What rises instead is a suede‐wrapped adventure, warm and textured, threaded with rose and an incense haze. Each accord steps forward in its own time, staking its claim, revealing a fragrance that moves and breathes rather than sitting still. The rose and fig are the true harmonizers here — they pull the structure together, smoothing the edges and creating a quiet, elegant balance. Beneath it all, vetiver and cedarwood anchor the scent with a grounded, woody base that feels confident and unmistakably intentional. This is a strong woman’s fragrance — not loud, but powerful. The kind of scent that asks you to dress the part. I immediately picture a suede fringe jacket, killer boots, and a sense of purpose. It’s cool‐weather friendly, perfect for evenings, and carries a mysterious, layered energy that makes the “spiritual incense” note in the description make complete sense. I wore it today while my horses were getting their hooves trimmed, and that’s always the real test. If a fragrance is too sharp, too sweet, or too synthetic, they let me know. Zephirine blended right in — with the pine shavings, the warm musk of the horses, the grounded air of the barn. It felt like it belonged there, part of the environment rather than competing with it. Mysterious, strong, evolving, and quietly commanding — Zephirine is a scent that transforms with you, and asks you to rise to meet it.

I really like Zepherine, but I will agree with the reviewer below that it skews traditionally masculine. That said, a confident woman could definitely wear this. I'm a woman and I will be wearing it, although I can see how a lot of women wouldn't. I have been on a fig kick lately and after sampling approximately 50 million figs, I will say there are four categories: - green fig fruit - sweet and fruity, but also green and tart - black/ripe fig fruit - fruity but richer and sweeter and vanillic - fig wood/sap - that unique smell Philosykos has. Not at all fruity - milky, woody, creamy - fig leaf - like fig wood above, but greener and less woody When a scent lists fig in its pyramid, it can be any one of those smells (or combination thereof) and you never know which you're going to get. This one, like Phlur's Father Figure, is definitely in the first category. This is tart, green fig fruit. On first spray you get a noseful of frosty green cypress and spicy clove, which I think registers as masculine. However, after a few seconds the fruity fig takes over and pushes the cypress to the background. For a while it's just fruit, with the cypress and clove creating more of a "black tea" note in the background (bitter but muted), and then after a while the benzoin and woods come in, grounding the scent and making it very woodsy. I do smell the suede, and there is the tiniest touch of rose - but woods and fig fruit are the stars here. Although the fig here is similar to that of Father Figure, the woods ground it and keep it - thankfully - from disappearing after a short while. Sillage and longevity are good. The woods also makes the fig cozier, more outdoorsy. I should say by hour 3 the fig is mostly gone, but the woods are still going strong, with just a tinge of fruit. This would be aces on a man who liked to be outside, or a woman who was a powerhouse in the boardroom. My main qualm is the price - which is outrageously high. I got a used travel sized bottle on ebay and that is the only way I would ever spend money on this scent as the full bottle is extremely expensive for something that is high quality and smells nice, but isn't revolutionary. Maybe that's because I like it but I don't love-love it. It's something I would spend a small amount on to wear occasionally - but if fig and woods are your bag, then this may be worth it for you. I prefer it, actually, to Debaser (another woodsy fig of the fig wood/sap + dark woods profile) which is less fruit but also ruins the creamy fig wood scent for me with darker woods that give me a headache. This is much ligter and more wearable.

I like the opening, but this one is not for me. Definitely male leaning within 5 minutes, and the patchouli/ rose combination goes acrid with my skin chemistry. Don't get me wrong, this is a quality scent, but it is not a safe blind buy.

I'm a collector and added this to my recent obsession of the Liberty Line. It is a spicy suede fragrance that is smooth and easily wearable. Comforting is a good way of describing it. Yes, as other reviewers have noted, it is strong on the opening and I don't get as much fig as I would have expected. That said, it is beautiful and easily wearable. Definitely leans a little masculine but I don't pay much attention to that. I am a women and intend on wearing this in the fall and winter months even though early spring when cold could work too. I'm most surprised by what it immediately reminded me of. A couple of years ago I got caught up in the hype of some middle eastern designer releases unavailable to us here in the USA. I was able to finally purchase in 2023 D&G The One Luminous Night. Zephirine is about 85% similar. Given how hyped TOLN is on this app I consider that a good thing for the Liberty fragrance. I would have to say that Zephirine is brighter somehow and a little more green. Either way, if you are a fan of TOLN you might want to get your nose on this one. So far, this is the strongest, longest wearing and best projection of this line. I haven't found one I'm not happy with. The traditional Liberty patterns on the caps is a nice touch and they are a pleasure to look at as well as reach for to wear.

Can’t say I’m getting a lot of fig from this fragrance, certainly not the lush fig, the greeness and textural quality, I’ve played around with fig accords and just ...no. This might be implanted but when it’s well settled I could be convinced I’m smelling a dried fig, like a fig roll biscuit but at a push. This fragrance is about other stuff, namely a sort of hyper modern, woody patchouli, spiced an even fruity, berry, incense tinged, I quite like it but if you’re the type of person who reads the reviews here, is looking for a ‘fresh’ type fig, and likes the fabrics and general poshery of a shop like Liberty, then I think you’d be disappointed by just how unnatural this is.

I do not consider this a fig or floral- but a spicy, warm and slightly sweet scent. If I had to describe it I’d say it is an effervescent lighter take on Teriaq Intense. This would be the perfectly acceptable daytime version where TI should be reserved for special occasions in the evening. Don’t let the initial spray scare you- it fires down quickly to a soft woody suede.

Last thing this is - a fig fragrance. There’s very strong wood opening, with suede being very much present as well. On dry down you might sense some very very faint fruitiness but not associated with fig at all. Perhaps a slight rose but majority of notes are only woody, leathery. I would consider this to be a masculine fragrance.

I don’t know why I even review florals when I don’t really like them, but this one isn’t that bad— even for a floral hater like me. Not too imposing or sweet. Feel free to wear this around your floral hater friends.
