Satori

This is a simple perfume that's a beautiful blend of so many of my favorite notes. The yuzu, sandalwood and ginger harmonize wonderfully, creating a sparkling and romantic spiciness which is mellowed out by the subtle, natural vanilla. The Fragrantica page lists “powdery” as one of its accords but I don’t find that to be the case at all. I wore this for a long time as I got back into wearing perfume, and it was a good introduction for someone like me who gets migraines from a lot of mainstream fragrance. It has basically no sillage and wears very intimately. I do wish it had a bit more longevity and projection but this is to be expected for a natural perfume composed of CO2 extracts and EOs. I think if it did have more sillage it would be gorgeous.

I expected to love this based on the notes, and I appreciate naturally-derived scents in general. That appreciation comes with an acknowledgement of the limitations of natural fragrances. Even with the bar set appropriately, this is underwhelming. The composition is citrus, ginger, and sandalwood. The vanilla is there, I assume, to soften and sweeten the main composition. The overall effect is one of Thai curry. Satori is $90 for 10ml. This is baffling to me. I blind bought this at a tiny fraction of the retail cost, and I still feel slightly taken. There are so many beautiful natural perfumes and so many creative noses producing interesting and complex scents for the natural/organic market. Satori doesn't cut it by any metric.
