Vivid

This is such a sleeper hit it's not even funny. I'm amazed it hasn't garnered more popularity, even after all these years. Vivid is a true "purple" fragrance. There are mostly floral notes going on here (violet being chief among them), but it brings to mind plums and dry autumn fruits (even though none are listed in the ingredients list). To put in another way: it's kind of like high quality grape soda that's been spiked. I'd say this is good for someone who's into those fruit punch-y girly-girl type fragrances and is looking to graduate to something more sophisticated without giving up the youthful feel. What's awesome about Vivid is it's so typically 90's. It's fun and brash and kind of lovingly mischievous. Really, Vivid is the slightly goth loud-mouthed cousin of Liz Claiborne's wonderful "Mambo" (if they were actual human beings they'd be two chicks in their late-twenties getting on the subway wearing loud colors, holding H&M shopping bags, and talking smack about their boyfriends). The longevity and throw are top notch and an affront to much more expensive fragrances that don't deliver the same performance. (Just be warned; it opens harshly a bit animalistic. Give it a few minutes. It settles into something divine.) Highly recommended.

This is very difficult for me to write, because Vivid was MY signature scent- THE signature scent. It perfectly defined me. My first bottle, purchased by my father in 1993, turned sour sometime in 2003. In 2009, I ordered a bottle from a discount house- either 99Perfume or FragranceNet- only to realize it had turned, as well. To those of you who have recently acquired this sunken treasure, your acquisitions are sadly either mere shadows of what they used to be, or have lost their magic altogether. I've reached this conclusion by way of the Fragrantica perfume pyramid: Oris? Maybe. Tangerine, jasmine, sandalwood, lily and violet? Yes. Egyptian sage, amber, peony, freesia? Nope. And, if you smell bergamot, you are the proud owner of a genuine spoiled bottle of Vivid! Marigold was the magical note that sealed the deal for this fragrance, when it was still alive. The composition was first class, with amazing depth. Sandalwood blended beautifully, creating a creamy vanilla musk, and the lily and violet stayed true to the end. Spellbound with this potion I made love, slayed dragons, suckled babes, moved mountains, and defied death. Liz, if you're listening- this was your MASTERPIECE! (Sniff.)

I find it mysterious that this little gem was discontinued so soon after release. I find it to be such an unusual and beautiful lilac/freesia scent, at least "purple flowers" is what I think I smell. I purchased 2 bottles on clearance somewhere around 1995 and they both still smell fine. They made the cut in my recent perfume cull for the Salvation Army after I smelled them again. Perhaps the juice has gotten a bit less potent as I avoided this scent in the past as I thought it was a bit too strong for work. Which explains why I still have 2 bottles! Today I wore 2 sprays at the sternum and got pleasant, classy floral whiffs throughout the day, just right. Good longevity and I am fussy about this. I would wear mainly in the late winter and spring, and usually during the day as this scent does not seem to evoke romance, at least not for me. Just class and elegance. I see this scent compared to other perfumes, but I am not aware of anything like it. Fifth Avenue is in the same general spirit, yes, but not much like it otherwise. Feminine, unique, classy. 9/10

Vivid is a very.lovely perfume. I just brought a 1.7oz bottle of it blind through an internet site because of the great reviews I've read about it and as far as I could tell there's only one perfume site in England that stocks it. I only got it a few days ago and I'm loving it. It's GORGEOUS! I like quite a few Liz Claiborne perfumes (my favorite is Curve) but this has to be one of her best. It's one of those perfumes you just want to breathe in very deeply, like taking a deep breath of fresh air. I think the jasmine and freesia are the predominant notes. I totally agree with Rednose that this is a hidden beauty. I'm so happy I've finally got a bottle for myself and I'm going to be ordering more because it's so hard to get hold of. I don't want to run out of it and would love to have some in my perfume collection forever! There is one drawback though. It has very little staying power and seems to almost totally disappear within a few hours. If it had better staying power it would be an almost perfect scent for me.

Ok so I wore this perfume 2day, my vintage bottle given by my aunt in the year 1998 when I was a kid without knowing anything about perfumes, but I fell in love with this smell instantly and it was my 1st designer perfume so this is so special to me. Back to present, so I wore my nearly empty bottle 2day(kept it safely in dark almira all these years) I'm in love with this, it's still beautiful as I remember but it's not beast mode as it used to be. I have bought 2 vintage bottles from ebay coz it's discontinued now and no one even talks about it on Youtube I don't know why? Can anyone here please recommend me any perfume which smells closest to Vivid please let me know. I also got Vivid by EA fragrance it's a watered down version.

Vivid sold now in the square box is made by Elizabeth Arden, not Liz Claiborne. Does it smell the same? Well, it's close enough that I'm not going to complain. But, I will complain about the color of the juice, quality of the glass bottle, and the cap. The original liquid was a soft, sparkling, vibrant yellow. (Hence, it's namesake Vivid.) The EA product is an ambiguous yellow/orange/slightly pink murky fluid. The current glass is hazy and bulky. It also has a generic tin cap now, instead of the lovely crown from days gone by. To see it on my dresser is a slap in the face. The fragrance is still reminiscent of it's predecessor, yet quality is noticeably absent throughout.

If only scent wasn't so closely linked to memory... This beautiful perfume was my signature scent the year it was released in 1993. I was a young, naive college girl who had fallen in love with an older man who was completely wrong for me. It was a tumultuous affair that lasted much longer than it should have. Through all the dark times, Vivid was one breath of fresh air that lifted my spirits and promised me better days to come. A beautiful purple powdery potion with a lovely floralcy that matched perfectly the bittersweet affaire de coeur of my youth.

This was my favorite fragrance for a long time, and the first I'd found that really seemed to sync well with my personal chemistry. It was a warm floral that made me feel beautiful, alluring, and alive, and I'd get stopped at least once a day while wearing it by someone asking what it was. I was saddened when it was discontinued and I've toyed with the idea of purchasing it online, but I fear by this time the contents would have most certainly turned, and it would never be the great love I'd once known.

I have to agree with the other poster, this packaging is very different from the bottles of yesteryear. It looks cheap and the color is no longer the light yellow, but is more of a murky, dusky pinky-yellow. I still love the juice. A contradiction of sorts. Bold yet, flowery and even powdery. Glad I was able to find it and because I got a large bottle, it should last a long time. Very feminine and great for fall/winter! Not sure of its longevity, but I'm betting the sillage will be a winner.

This fragrance is now discontinued and has been for well over a decade. Any Vivid perfume purchased can be unused and unopened, but that is hardly new. The fragrance is going to smell dramatically different than what it used to smell like since every bottle in existence is at least 10-15 years old. If you want to smell like Vivid, but without wearing decade old perfume, get a bottle of Bamboo Eau De Parfum by Gucci. The smell is practically identical to what I remember Vivid smelling like.

I was lucky enough to get a vintage EDP of this in a job lot from ebay. I wasn't familiar with it at all, but just love it. Not had any experience with the newer formulation, but if you can find the vintage, I thoroughly recommend grabbing it. Its a real classy scent. The vintage version is strong, but never overpowering, with the violet, peony, amber and musk the most prominent notes on me. A lovely blend. I can't smell the vanilla at all, which is a refreshing change!

I have the newest version of this fragrance and I love it. I bought a new bottle from EBay. It isn’t spoiled. It smells as if it’s brand new. It smells just as amazing as my aunt’s original vintage bottle. The only downside to this fragrance is that once you start spraying it, you don’t want to stop because of how amazing it is. I hope to God that this perfume stays in production, because I will buy this until the day I die.

This fragrance, on me, has prompted more people on the street to stop and ask me what I'm wearing than any other ever. It is present without being overwhelming. It is just one of those perfumes that people love...alluring, womanly but not too feminine, and sexual on the dry down. It is my signature scent, and one I have been in love with for many years now. And true love lasts a lifetime.

I haven't found any perfume which smells better than this one, it smells so feminine, elegant, classy and divine, I felt heartbroken when it was discontinued by Liz Claiborne, I couldn't find any perfume similar to this one. Now its sold as a copy of Vivid by EA fragrance which I bought but the smell was mild and no longetivity at all! Miss the old 90s Vivid, please bring it back!

I just got this and I must say it is different than I thought it would be. It was a blind buy and I expected it to be modern, sharp and crisp. It is just the reverse. It is all floral. On me it is full Freesia and almost, but not quite, cloying through the whole drydown. Maybe it's the tangerine that keeps this being too much. I love it when I can be surprised!

I simply love Liz Claiborne's Vivid. I has been my favorite for so many years. I get so many compliments when I wear it. Now to find it is a different story. I have tried other perfumes and can't find one that matches these. Has anyone else found anything that comes close to it? Some perfumes just don't seem good on my skin.

I agree with all the others about this being a "wow I just stumbled across this!" sleeper. It is awesome. I was about to give up on it after 5 minutes because it wasn't growing at all. Then BAM! here it comes :o) OMGosh! So fine. Again, give her a go for a few minutes before making ANY decision. Back-up bottle coming up!

No wonder I love it, violet and freesia, two of my most favourite notes. And it DOES smell purple, with the woodsy, powdery supporting notes. I know what this reminds me of, the Avon violet from so long ago. What a perfect spring scent. So enjoying this right now! I hope this is never discontinued, so beautiful!

They messed up when they quit making this. I loved smelling this on my aunt. EDIT_______________ EVERY online fragrance website now has it IN STOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They must have started making this again!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ladies, this one is actually very purple! Dare I say a cousin to Galliano. The concept does not look the same at all, Galliano Gothic and this one transparent. But when I smell with my eyes closed, they are both SUPERB in translating the colour purple in a perfume.
