Ambre

Oh, I do adore this. And I did adore the original when I have smelled it for the first time. But do I enjoy this more then the new Terre de Lumiere? I have concurred that Terre wins by a small margin, simply because it is more interesting. This is quite a linear amber and that does not bother me here at all because I enjoy the experience a lot. It is sweet, somewhat sweeter than some of the other ambers I have sampled, but once again, as with Terre, the sweetness is not cloying in the least. It melts with the skin and becomes velvety smooth. Not too balsamic, so if you enjoy a certain spiciness, this might disappoint you. You catch wafts for some 5-6 hours. It does not stay overnight like some of my dear other vanillas, but that is fine. It is one of my favorite ambers so far.

Love this so much I wanna bathe in it! I've been looking for a scent that's "me" for so long, I've tried all sort of brands from Yves Rocher, to Dior or Prada so when I stubbled upon this little L'Occitane boutique while waiting in a train station in Paris I wasn't very optimistic. I've never been one to buy on impulse, whenever I want to buy a perfume I read about it everywhere, watch all the Youtube videos that exist, etc. however, upon first smell I knew this was the one and I just had to buy it. It's so comforting that I sometimes smell the nose of the bottle just because. Thank you l'Occitane, I think I might've just found my signature scent.

It is soft and round amber, full-bodied, beautifully composed, and long-lasting. It's one of the best. But because it has peculiar citrusy overtones, I would not recommend it for the blind buy. I have a feeling that the nose behind it is Karine Dubreuil-Sereni, the master of amber fragrances who created another amber fragrance for this house a decade ago. And many thanks to L'occitaine for being wise and reintroducing a series of classical hits (this one is among them) to the market. Now, the flacons are very simple, but the fragrance is still the same.

Superb amber, vanillic, sweet, comforting, unisex (leading towards feminine) excellent sillage and longevity with great natural ingredients and price value. Where is the problem? I don't understand the marketing of this firm, constantly putting out on market new fragrances and discontinued alla the others at the meantime, leaving a crowd of dissatisfied and frustrated clients. Because this amber is not anymore available and it is a pity. (same for Eau D Iparie) 4/5 if you can find it.

Ambre is a perfect Autumn fragrance; warm, reassuring, easy to wear. But, that doesn’t make it pedestrian or boring. On the contrary, Ambre is sensuous, slightly sweet, a touch powdery, somewhat woody, and quite resinous. It leans toward feminine, but anyone can wear it. I layer it over L’Occitane’s Almond Shower Oil and Almond Milk body cream. On of my favourite Autumn/Winter fragrances.

A very light touch of fresh flowers brings subtle movement to this pleasant multilayered amber fragrance. Comparing to many other ambers, this one is not only warming, it is uplifting. That widens the seasons for this fragrance. It fits spring and cool summer in the Baltics. It should fit autumn too. Quite good longevity.

When I tried this perfume for the first time, I could not escape the magic of its smell. I just thought the first note was too heavy, but the lower notes showed a lighter perfume magic and the smell of amber even further. It could have been great if parfume permanence lasted longer.

An "Original Amber" in a primordial meaning. A salty metal_almondy, tonka, mou (caramel), woody, amber scent. Light vanilline with bitter leather-like sides. Make me think to a relaxing mountain's shop-café made in light wood. Very good amber. Simple and enveloping. Soft oriental.

This is my favourite perfume of all time. It’s such a pity that they discontinued the old version. I recently purchased a new version and it’s almost identical to the old one. It doesn’t have the same longevity but still it’s my favourite fragrance.

It is warm and sweet, persistent and fascinating. Still not too sweet, there is some wood and it easily be a unisex fragrance. I consider it a quality product, not common and pleasant in any occasion (but I would avoid during hot seasons).

Seriously underrated! Warm and sweet and not very overpowering! Perfect for both men and women. Longevity is great! UPDATE: Sillage is outstanding! I've been getting lots of compliment wearing this scent!

Love this scent, so clean, fresh and classy. It is mainly amber with hints of vanilla. Cosy and lovely.

Why the Tonka bean,cedar is not listed in the notes .

I tested this today, I was eager to see if it really was as amazing as most people said. Well, it undoubtedly is an amazing amber, really pleasant, long lasting, and with a very good sillage. My problem with it is its excessive sweetness. It is SO sweet, almost like a gourmand, but without being a gourmand... And this annoys me. I didn't expect it, at the very beginning I was totally loving it, but after a couple of minutes it really became too sweet for my liking. It wasn't even too much about vanilla really, just this super duper sweet amber. Moreover, I then found it a bit too simple for my taste, and it also gave me a light headache. So, if some friend gave this to me I'd still be happy because really, it's an enjoyable amber, but I would layer it with something darker and woodier, to give it depth and less sweetness. (By the way, maybe it's because I'm used to L'Erbolario's Ambraliquida which is much more bitter and complex, at least to me, so this was quite a shock :))

Okay, I'll start. A new school year. You're desperately searching for a perfume to prove yourself, and you see Ambre on your favorite shower product brand's (favorite because of its nice scents) website. The vanilla scent is appealing. To be honest, on a student budget, the fact that it's on sale makes you blindly buy it. While impatiently waiting for it to arrive, you slowly realize it's not a feminine scent and you feel a little regretful. When I first smelled it, it reminded me of cuddling in bed with my boyfriend at the end of autumn and the beginning of winter. You know how his masculine scent and your girlish cheerfulness combine? It was like that... I hadn't met my ex-boyfriend yet, but after we met, we experienced this scenario every day. It holds many memories for me, but unfortunately, it's running out, and since I couldn't relate to the scent with my personality, I won't buy it again. But who knows, maybe I'll leave a couple of sprays at the bottom :)

I am so happy L'Occitaine has brought back their classics! Unfortunately the new version is not as intense or long lasting as the original version from the 2000s (in the birdcage-shaped bottle). Nevertheless, the characteristic classic warm, resinous, golden amber notes are still there, just tamed down for 2020 tastes I suppose. I wore Ambre, Eau d'Iparie, Neroli and The Vert during high school so I have great memories with those scents - I hope they bring back Neroli as well.

I love amber, but was disappointed with this fragrance. Nice initial hit of amber very quickly fades, followed by vanilla, which stays in the background but only faintly and not for long. Unfortunately, not many of the other notes can be detected, no depth. Sweet fragrance.

I don't love amber but this is probably my favourite of all the ambers I've ever come across! Sweet and cost but also bright, and manages to not to overwhelming or cloying.

Oh dear. When I sniffed it in store I think my nose was too tired from the onslaught of Selfridges perfume section across the road. I thought I liked it. I was looking for the scent that used to be the Ambre soap and shower gels from around 2004. I bought a bottle and it was not good on me at all. All I smell, hardly any amber only just cheap vanilla and musk. No freesia or bergamot either. No character at all. I dislike it so much I sold it on.

I blind bought it, knowing I would love it, but no. Super sweet vanilla, musk, an off-kilter freesia, that smells like celery. It’s uncanny how realistic this bizarre celery note is to me. So, let’s consider I’m way off base with the celery. The end result is a thin, saccharine vanilla that loses its depth with the white-ish musk. The floral note just takes it in an odd direction, and overall, I really don’t like it. Tried it twice; two full wears, and it’s a no for me.Edit: If you do like the smell, it does project well with better than average longevity.
