Arlésienne

I love this fragrance so much. It quickly cemented it’s place as one of my favourites and ‘go to’ fragrances when I want something that smells fresh, feminine, pretty, and that performs consistently on my skin. I feel like me and this fragrance have an understanding, and I tend to reach for her when I want to head out feeling confident that I simply smell “really good.” I can’t imagine anyone being offended by this scent on someone else, which probably means that she doesn’t take chances and isn’t all that bold - so be it. I know it’s not the original formulation, and to be fair, I never had the pleasure of smelling it’s predecessor, but this fragrance is just lovely in its own right. I smell an ethereal, light, bright floral with a beautiful, refined soapy quality that’s on the fresh, not powdery, side. I often get the generic “you smell nice” compliments when I wear this, and there is nothing bad about that is there? I’d describe it as an airy and light bouquet with green notes that are floating on the warm breeze. The opening hints of citrus are sharp but forgiving and brief, and it settles down beautifully. She doesn’t take her time getting to the good bit and on my skin the longevity has been all day. I’ve noticed considerable debate about interpretations of the ‘ozonic’ accord, and can tell you that it sums this one up for me. Even though this isn’t a heavy powerhouse or a classic, I feel sophisticated when I wear it because I feel polished and clean. I don’t feel it’s too playful or flirty, but rather represents someone who is well put together, nicely dressed and who looks after herself (but maybe holds a sweet secret or two). I will have a bottle on my dresser for as long as L’Occitane produces it. Truly one of my favourites. I hope others will discover her and love her too - it’s a shame to read only reviews comparing her negatively to the previous version, so this was mine, for what it’s worth. Enjoy.

What a marvelous creation from perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin and so underrated. Just because its not from a big fancy designer house doesn't mean it doesn't deserve its due praise and I am happy to disagree with the negative reviews for this perfume. To me this and Chloé edp are truly bespoke fresh ROSE fragrances and I don't consider rose my favorite, however, these two fragrances are a testimony of how you need to make a dominant note or accord outstandingly beautiful and wearable by using the right other complimenting notes. His other creation like velvet rose and oud from Jo Malone is much warmer and more incense like. The use of saffron and galbanum in the opening is very artistic and carried out with deftness and makes the perfume intense. Saffron another very underrated but mesmerizing scent. Saffron (zaffran) or Kesar is a spice with an amazing aroma and color and beyond anything incredible heat and beneficial uses. Galbanum and its beauty we already know of thanks to Chanel 19. This is what sets this perfume apart from the very generic use of rose that we see in the overwhelming majority of perfumes. The musk and musk mallow and the sandalwood makes it creamier and ambroxan gives amazing longevity. Love this and Chloé edp more than Coco Mademoiselle ❤ The use of citruses in the opening to me has become quite boring and mundane. Arlésienne is truly more than her namesake

Light and clean but with oriental notes (warm spicy), with enigma, a bit sophisticated. I usually avoid floral fragrances, but this one suits the lovers of the woody perfumes. The rose is not dominating. There is some addictive note (saffron? galbanum?) in the composition, that makes this fragrance very tempting. And uplifting! By the way, it sounds interesting on the male's skin - as floral woody musk in many cases has androgynous nature. Good for the morning, for a dynamic working day and for an early cocktail, it is quite uplifting. Socially safe (as most of fragrances nowadays). Stays quite close to my skin (nordic pale). Too week, needs to be renewed every hour, there is a big need in a smaller version. I just can imagine how beautiful and vivid the previous version was. Kind of memories brought from the far East back to Venice :)

Sadly I have not had the opportunity to try the original Arlesienne, but I really love this one! It's very versatile and can be light and summery without turning into a generic floral juice, but can also become a warm powdery shawl for the colder days. Both me and my mum adore this one; my mum went through the whole bottle in about a year (and it was far from the only perfume in her collection), and now I've finally got myself a large bottle (had a miniature version from an Advent calendar a couple years back) and going through it astronomically fast as well :) I find it to be very well-blended, with none of the notes sticking out or veering the whole thing into an Occitane soliflore.

I bought this today. (My bad) Its a re-release 2023 version and a Limited Edition. Top notes of Hawthorn, Galbanum and Mandarin. Mid notes of Rose of Grasse, Violet and Heliotrope. Base notes of Ambrette, Sandalwood and White Musk are listed on site. I use to wear herbae and i notice a similiar DNA especially in top notes. To me this is way too strong, sweet and powdery, but not in a good way. Not soft powder, but like screechy harsh rose menthol powder. I find it a bit too much tbh. In the opening its screechy and old lady harsh cheap rose up your nose and burn your nostrils like. It smell cheap like strong laundry detergent.

Honestly this is probably the best L’Occitane fragrance for a long time. It’s not their typical floral perfume at all. It’s rosey, violet saffron and galbunum. This has a warm seductive trail. It’s a smooth and cosy floral which is also subtle. Both perfume and body milk have very good longevity and nice sillage. It’s a terrible shame that this version too is also to be discontinued. There’s just something so pretty and delicate and feminine about roses and violets, but the other notes add such a soothing warmth to it. I have just ordered the last of the hand creams to enjoy for the next little while...

Comforting herbal floral. My favorite Occitane fragrance and it's sad that it's been discontinued. This is my go-to cologne in the late spring and summer when I want to feel fresh, calm, and lovely when I head out the door in the morning. The herbal quality that sits under the florals helps keep you feeling fresh as the heat and humidity of the season try to make you wilt. Very office- and travel-appropriate. Agree with the reviewer who noted that it feels vintage, but not old-fashioned or cloying. A very pleasing and well-executed blend.

Arlesienne is my scent of bliss and comfort. The flowers are so delicately blended, its effect evokes a silk shawl or antique piece of lace. This is a scent of femininity, vintage powders, and posey soaps taken straight from the pages of an Edith Wharton novel. On the dry down, the roses and violets bloom on the skin, but are settled with a slight watery finish. Its sillage is modest; this fragrance sits close on the skin like an Edwardian whisper.

Althoug I didn’t want to buy anything when I first smelt it in the shop I said ‘I want it right now.’ For me it it’s such a unique scent that I can’t compare it to anything else. Mainly the dry down is very appealing. Last time when I was wearing it my daughter asked me: ‘What is it on you? You smell like a mother.’ I like how comforting it is, but at the same time much more than a simple soapy scent.

A mesmerizing scent of violet powder with a hint of fresh youthful rose. A subtle, delicate bitterness adds depth and richness to the fragrance. This is the smell of luxury. Old money. The scent of refinement and femininity. I adore this perfume🩷 I receive countless compliments on it, regardless of age or gender

While I like this version and I’ll have to put up with it because it’s similar enough, it’s just not the same as the original. There was no need to change perfection. This is spicier to me. Not necessarily bad, just not my soulmate version of Arlésienne.

Rose lovers unite!(under this perfume). This fragrance smells to soft, floral and nostalgic. It’s the type of scent that you would dream of smelling when meeting your first true love. Think the notebook. LOVE LOVE LOVE

This is such a pretty scent. It makes you feel ultra feminine in the best way! With every whiff, you get a heady, sensuous, bouquet of roses. Tantalizing.

The best violet scent in the market nowadays.

Heaven !! This is sooooooo beautiful. I can't believe how incredibly beautiful this is. I'm without words even. Also the scentbubble this creates is out of this world soft and eatheral. Something a faery actually would wear. I am in loooooooove Sparkly but soft. I did a half spritz and it is also so very potent 🌸💖 The hawthorn in this has all the pretty fragrant facets of their very typical and recognisable fragrant blossoms of which their scent hangs heavy in the air all over the woodlands in may and june. I personally love the scent of hawthorn blossom so much, so to encounter this in a fragrance so beautifully blended is such a treat!! 💖💖💖 Edit: this perfume can be an enigma in the way that Mitsouko edp is an enigma and creates different scent experiences. Firstly from upclose you will smell a different fragrance than when the scenttrail enters your olfactive awareness from a distance. (Just like Mitsouko) Second, Spray too much and you won't be able to grasp it's sensual, creamy Hawthorn essence and it will end up smelling a lot like Chloe edp.

I was very excited to own this perfume. I hadn't smelled anything like it before, and straight away I really liked the saffron, violet, and rose. I wore it for about a month or so during the summer and realized I wasn't suited for it. I'm a young woman, so the 'story' behind this perfume, which is that it's a perfume that a mother gifts her daughter when she enters adulthood, sold me along with the scent. But the more I wore it, the more the innocent florals were overcome by the sharp, rich smelling saffron and ambroxan, and my skin became one hot ground for a powerful, mature order that smelled richer and older than I am. It may have been the summer heat or just my skin, but the scent just wasn't ideal for my nose or my personality. I wonder if Arlesienne is lighter and fresher in cooler months, and I also wonder how the 2018 version (the one I owned) compares to the 2014 version. In any case, I exchanged it for L'Occitane's Verveine and was happier!

Effervescent rose & violet; the sparkliness definitely comes from the ambroxan in my opinion. It is light, but it still has presence. It feels a little vintage, but not dated. I'm not surprised that L'Occitane is discontinuing this, as it has been around for a few years in its current form, but it is sad as this feels like a very unique fragrance to me. It has a strong violet presence without veering into powdery territory, and the rose is pure noticeable without being sweet. L'Occitane fragrances are in a class of their own, and they really do often smell exactly like the notes they're meant to convey. Arlesienne will be sadly missed when she's gone, I am sure.

- Reminded me Laila by Gerr Ness. - First few minutes on the skin and straight from the bottle smells like rose vodka. Like cheap perfume imitation, alcohol (I have official bottle from L'occitane boutique). - Light, inoffensive, floral, powdery dry down. - poor silage. Suitable for young girl, for day wear. - it is just OK

Iam very sad, one of my favourite perfume (the original, 2014 version) discontinued and gave its place for this reformulated version :( Much weaker and insensible. After the original one it is like a rhinoceros who lost his horn.... WHY WHY and WHY???

Quite intense floral scent. Green waves of galbanum, lots of rose and violet leaf and a bit of bergamot. I like it even if I have problems with green scents quite often.
