Eau d'Iparie

I love this....it’s such a unique, lovely rose. It smells clean and earthy, soothing, abit mystical. The florals are subtly sweet...and there’s a touch of soapiness, just a touch. Patchouli here is quite noticeable, but it’s a tame and gentle one. Myrhh adds an element of intricacy to the composition, a very subdued smokiness. It’s very different from anything I’ve ever smelled, yet it’s so easy to wear. As a Middle Eastern person, I think this really suits me! I’d wear it anytime, anywhere, all year round, it’s great as a signature scent. I think a man can definitely pull this off too and smell very elegant. To my nose, it’s a unisex scent that leans feminine. It smells very niche and refined, a steal for the price, it smells better than many niches I’ve tried that’s double and triple its price. Longevity is very good, lasts 6-7 hours on my skin (days on clothing!), and sillage is perfectly moderate. This is L’Occitane’s best fragrance in my opinion. A high quality masterpiece!

I bought a bottle of this a few years ago and gave it to a friend because she adored it, saving a 10ml decant for myself-- I slightly regret my generosity! I agree with other reviewers that this is absolutely unique and stunningly beautiful. To my nose the incense is really only a low hum in the background, and not at remotely churchy- more of a honeyed, gourmand incense. It's a gentle, sweet myrrh layered with a strong, very sensual spicy rose and a tamed, liquid amber. This is not a girly or too-feminine perfume, but an eccentric, mature, enigmatic scent that would work beautifully on both sexes. My only frustration is that I know people who have tried the original and maintain that it was slightly drier, and didn't have all of the sweetness of the reformulation, which admittedly could be too much for some people. I would still recommend it for anyone who loves complex, sexy and bold orientals.

I just bought a brand new bottle of this reformulation. It was a blind buy because I was looking for a sort of liturgical incense scent and I love rose. I haven't tried the original so I can't compare, but this one smells mysterious and ethereal yet bright and crisp. It is a little out of my typical olfactory comfort zone as I expected it would be, but I still really enjoy it, everything just works so well together. It's something to wear in quiet meditative moments I think. Alone in nature on a darkly overcast day or at missa privata, if that's your thing. Update: it has great sillage and it's very long lasting, I applied 2 sprays on my arm in the early evening and it's still a skin scent the following morning even after a shower.

I don't know how they do it but L'Occitane has two of my favourite fragrances: This one and Néroli & Orchidée, and as clemmy said below, you can't find anything similar, not even among niche fragrances. This one's predominantly myrrh, olibanum and rose. Contrary to what happens with most other resinous fragrances, I can wear this in summer and the weather actually compliments the fragrance, which I find amazing. And it always reminds me of Acre, Israel. I like to think that Templars left bags full of myrrh under the Levantine sun, behind the walls of Acre, resins are cooking, but not for a long time: They'll be carried to Europe after a long and arduous journey.

I'm happy to report that this is the same formulation that they used to sell in the old style bottle before it was discontinued. Except for the first few minutes where a sweet, fruity note like plum dominates. I don't remember this in the old bottles but luckily it fades very quickly on my skin leaving way to the glorious scent that was and is Eau d'Iparie. Sillage is still monstruous and longevity really really good. L'Occitane can get things wrong very often but they did very well in keeping the original here. As a side note, the other two classics in this line are also unchanged, and are now clearly marketed at both men and women. Well done :)

I absolutely love this fragrance! It's elegant and edgy at the same time. The myrrh and rose work beautifully together to create a unique semi-churchy, artsy, eccentric scent. I was lucky enough to try the original version back in the early 00's when I was dating the head of music at a very reputable cathedral in San Francisco who owned the bottle. I remember spraying it on before Sunday mass and how much it fit the surroundings of huge concrete pillars, stained glass windows, and the choir singing. And how it was even more fitting for my bus ride home looking out the window at the gray sky and listening to My Bloody Valentine on my headphones.

Reformulation is more atmospheric and less structured. It is seasonal (cold seasons and early spring), myrrh and patchouli are dominating. Not for a blind buy. A bit mystical and thoughtful, good for the evenings. These recent experiments that turn oriental scents into lighter versions that have some air to breathe are quite interesting. They widen the range of users of the scent, although they do ruin previous compositions. Also this is a part of the marketing strategy. A previous version of this fragrance was tempting, vivid, well-structured, quite a masterpiece - but it was too heavy for me to wear.

This is a very unique smell....I have been searching for perfume like this for yearssss and finally found it! Can't describe the individual notes of the composition, but it is definitely in the woody category....but not heavy dry woods. This one is rather light and fresh. There is sweetness yes, but not overpowering at all. There is some sort of melancholy feeling in this scent....reminds me of something in the past, but can't tell what....This is definitely a sophisticated scent, very unique and mysterious. Definitely can be unisex, but leaning toward fem.

I tested the new edition (in the plain bottle that is sold in stores now). This is such an interesting fragrance. The notes listed here (looks floral) give a wrong impression. Instead, it smells like a mysterious Catholic or Eastern church, with myrrh, resin and incense as most prominent notes. I have smelled nothing like this before, this is pure perfume art. It has a spiritual quality, this is certainly not for everyone (I'm too basic for this). It is so special and amazing. Lasted the whole day on my hand.

What a wonderful unique complex rose. Eau d'Iparie in the opening has green aspects in the opening, like smelling a natural rose close to the soil in a garden. It turns slightly sweeter as the myrrh and patchouli comes out more as it dries down. The combination of notes makes it airy and light, but grounded with depth at the same time . It's truly unisex and can be worn for any occasion. I only wish it came in a bigger bottle than the 50 ml available at the l'Occitane stores here.

The accords listed here confuse me. I would not classify "amber" as the top accord. This is a dry, resinous fragrance, bordering on clinical/cold at first whiff but you keep sniffing because you can detect the deep, resinous, warm base layers. Holy grail fragrance. The reformulation is nearly identical (slightly fruitier/sweeter opening but it lasts 30 seconds), and the strength and longevity is the same beast that I remember in the original bottle.

This fragrance is one of my favourite and it is unique. It is not liturgical at all! when I wear it people are curious, they love it but no one is able to identify the essence of this scent, and I admit that I have the same feeling. It is feminine, charming, pleasant and intense. It is an original perfume for winter/fall and night scent (although not too rich, in fact can be worn during the day).I will definitely buy it again.

Love this one. I feel like a rich lady in a church. Totally will buy again. Projection and longevity is average (usual L’occitaine) .. smell stands out in its churchy genre. Worth buying for me for L’occitane’s price since its different. Always check the profile of person I say to see what sort of perfumes the person likes to get where one is coming from for any particular review.

A botanical Gris Dior vibe. While Gris Dior is cristalline, this is herbal. Very nice and elegant, special, like a walk in a Victorian garden. This together with the Les Eaux de Chanel collection and Shalimar L’initial, have been some of my most delectable discoveries this summer. Eau d’Iparie is surprisingly easy to wear and I use it also while gardening.

As already mentioned, this is UNIQUE. You cannot find anything out there similar, not even niche. Balsamic incense, but not 'church-like'. Comforting and pleasant, excellent projection and sillage. My problem is: why I cannot find it anymore including in L'Occitaine e-shop? Discontinuing this gem is a terrible mistake. if you can find it, take it! 4.5/5

My all-time favorite. It is momentarily curing my social awkwardness. These dry herbs and salty ocean air are calming me. It is like my portrait in a bottle, but a better, ultimate, eternal version of me, the one that God created for a perfect-whole-forever life.

This is amazing, nothing anything like this out there. I immediately get this invigorating mint like sensation and then the dry down is even more mesmerizing. A very green fresh dry down with myrrh peaking through. This is a must try.

I have only tested on paper, but it definitely smells like the old formula. It seemed quite potent too, the paper strip had one spray on it and it scented my purse for an entire week. Good stuff.

gorgeous scent...so uplifting and unique! A perfect spring fragrance. Those looking for a compliment magnet scent with a solid performance, this is it.

I’m literary in love with the original Eau d'Iparie EdT, so the reformulated EdP version was a bit of disappointment. Original EDT is dominated by incense, myrrh and light woody notes with a very unique herbal-camphoric undertone. It is mysterious, heavy and transparent at the same time, very sophisticated. The new EDP version, especially the initial phase, is very sweet and loud. Main notes are honey (loads of it), myrrh (which smells kind of artificial, too clean, with no bitterness), rose and some spices. Patchouli is also prominent. I can detect a very faint incense note only after three hours, ant it’s still dominated by honey sweetness. The base notes are calmer, but still not as sophisticated as it used to be. In conclusion – not bad, but not the same either.

Suitable for mature women for day use. A safe but noticeable office fragrance. The scent starts as a cold green floral - almost clinical - could even say metallic. After about 2 hours a light powderiness appears. I bought this for a steal AUD$40 at the Christmas sales. Absolutely nothing like the sweet Gris Dior, which I also own. And I detect no spice.

I like this fragrance, it's very feminine, oriental, mature. The minus is it's such a strong scent especially when I've a sensitive nose and this perfume irritates me... Also the silage for me is a bit too heavy.

Of the three relaunched Les Classiques, Eau d’Iparie is the one I like best. Ambre is sweet, sweet, so sweet I recoiled from it, and Eau des 4 Voleurs starts promisingly herbal but evolves into something mundane I can’t help likening to a shaving foam. All three smell natural and have excellent staying power, but apart from d’Iparie, I found them ‘meh’. D’Iparie itself I’m unlikely to buy, but that’s because I’m looking for a (budget) liturgical fragrance, and d’Iparie, despite the notes of myrrh and olibanum, isn’t it. What it is, however, is a distinctive and pleasant resinous blend, which manages to be stylish and aromatherapeutical at the same time. It literally and metaphorically unclogged my sinuses on a grey, overcast day, and in the bargain it made me feel better dressed than I really was. Sweet, it is, as well as very camphoraceous, almost as if it contained eucalyptus and not merely patchouli. But the two qualities hold each other in perfect check, and the whole never veers too far in either direction. The same could be said of the perfume’s ‘gender,’ which strikes me as perfectly unisex. (Not so Ambre, which seems to me too feminine even for a woman, or 4 Voleurs, which would be boring even on a boring guy.) Handsome from the start, Eau d’Iparie at no point grated on my nerves, and the drydown (though rather linear) was unusually satisfying. In sum, well worth checking out.

I can’t help but think that the third issue of this perfume has been badly reformulated. To me, the 2009 and even the 2016 versions were fuller, heavier, moister. This last one I find to be quite dry, airy and flat. Ended up selling my bottle, it’s just not like I remember it.

woahhhh this was seriously soo smokey sweet woody and amber with that like balsamic kick and i really fuck w it in the sense that its interesting but i wouldnt buy it

It's a very nice, unique fragrance, and I absolutely hate it! I don't know what it is, all the notes are right up in my alley, but it annoys me so bad, I keep thinking I need to wash it off (I'm at work and can't do it)... PM me if anyone is interested to purchase or swap.

Greed Greed Greed From 75ml to 50ml. From £45 to £65. Double fingered. It's not exactly the same as the discontinued one; the new one is more floral, less earthy. Other than that, it's really the only perfume worth purchasing from l'occitane. Well, it used to be. Edit It's £70 for 50 ml!!(2025)

I took a chance on this and I am so glad I did . It’s beautiful. Not sweet. It’s a delicate rose and peony mixed with a soft Patchouli( the fresh kind, not earthy or aged ) and sheer resins. Feels cold and elegant. Reminds clearly of the long time defunct Midnight Poison from Dior. I still have a few ml left from that, this is surely softer and slightly fresher, but definitely the same family. And another that seems related is the Parfum de la Revolte 1969 from Histoires des Parfums, but not totally, that is a little sweetened by peach. This has no fruit whatsoever. But I thought I would mention it, if you don’t like that you won’t enjoy this either. It’s very classy. Also, strong. Quite long lasting too. I am not familiar with the original so I cannot comment on resemblance. I suppose what surprises me the most is the lack of any sweetness. Because of that, it seems to belong to a different era. The bottle is squarish and there isn’t anything exciting about it, same with the box, plain. The edp inside is strict, elegant, cold, beautful but not sexy at all... probably it seems that way because I’ve grown accustomed for the past several years to associate sexy and sweetness and gourmand stuff. This is a slim woman in a black tight suit, wearing stilettos, hair pulled back, bright defiant red lipstick, going to a meeting with men in power and knowing she will have them at hello. PS. As much as I love this one, I might swap it because something in it makes my duaghter sneeze ... pm me if you want it, 75 ml in box , used a couple of times.

Smells identical to the original (2005) but also identical to Shiloh by Hors la Monde (2006). Shiloh was a mysterious, expensive and short lived fragrance which kept the company in a legal battle with Angelina Jolie over its name. If the fragrance was actually made a couple of years before they won the court case, then I think L'Occitane snuck in and borrowed the recipe for a while under the original D'Iparie. After Shiloh was discontinued, L'Occitane stepped up again. D'Iparie is a bright and effervescent version of Noir Epices by Frederic Malle. D'Iparie is day to Noir Epices' night. Michael Roudnitska was the nose behind Noir Epices and also Shiloh (and although not credited I think he's responsible for this). I have always been surprised that D'Iparie does not have fruit listed as there is certainly something juicy in there .... sweet lemons or something that almost feels like pineapple but not quite. Its incredibly unique. If I had not stumbled on Shiloh, I'd swear there is nothing quite like D'Iparie. Juicy, earthy and sparkling with florals. A glass of ice cold Prosecco and a mouthful of lemon sorbet on blooming garden rooftop in Paris.

What a beautiful surprise. Well blended rose, indeed a quite spicy one, with a grown up patchouli and golden woody resins, attractive, addictive. Fresh and deep, mature, surely not for a baby girl. A warrior scent! It makes me feel naturally strong, free and ready to live all the best. So féminine to me, wathever this could mean, because it could also be unisex. Compliment getter, very good projection. There is a spiritual dimension in it, I guess. Ed: wearing it in spring, there is a kind of juicy note hidden somewhere in it. What could it be? Citrus ? Pear ? An ochard smell. It’s really beautiful ! Ed 2: Appel, golden apple juice in the sun, completely different in summer than in winter!

I am so surprised that I have never reviewed this beautiful and very opulent fragrance. Despite the presence of myrhh and olibanum it is not what one would classify as a "churchy" fragrance in comparison to well known others that immediately bring mass and incense to mind. The beauty of this perfume is that it is very, very variable depending on the weather as certain notes come to the forefront with a change in temperature. Eau d'Iparie is an extremely well crafted, multi-dimensional perfume that is not only elegant and distinctive, but has amazing sillage and longevity. There is nothing like it and if this is a poor man's version of a highly commercial fragrance, even more wonderful!

YOU SHOULD GIVE AT LEAST HALF AN HOUR TO SEE TRUE BEAUTY OF THIS ONE. IT CHANGES A LOT. after trying a few times within this month, today trying again for the last timei I have decided to buy it. İt is a unique experience and offers a very different and uplifting journey when you spray it. I need it :) edit I: I got the new bottle. I really like this scent but it is very fleeting after half an hour. I cannot get as good longevity as Terre de Lumiere or Arlesienne ( from the same house) for example. edit II: Today I have accidentally layered İparie with Light Blue and the magic happened. Normally I never layer fragrances. I am an old school parfum girlie lol.

I was gifted a full-sized bottle of this by a great aunt twice or thrice removed lol. My friends tell me it smells like Chinese traditional medicine. I think it smells like a cross between incense sticks and those typical aromatherapy oils we're meant to put in atomizers, but it also manages to smell expensive at the same time. Warm and inviting but also crisp/dry and detached, like an eccentric but compassionate woman basking in the sunset of her life. You enjoy her presence and can't help but admire her but you know you're just one of the many people who feel that way. It's a very strange scent.

Simply one of the best perfumes in my collection. I bought it in Dubai without high expectation on its performance. When i wear it to office, i sprayed a few on my shirt and surprisingly i can still smell it until night when i go home. Very long lasting and have a good sillage. The most important is, it has a pleasant niche smell that outclassed expensive niche fragrance already, the drydown is very soft and warm but lively. I think i can live with this perfume for a long time. This is a lovely blind buy. Can never go wrong! Suitable for men and women too.

I longed to try this one for years. So when I discover that they relaunched it, I blind bought it. Had high hopes, but on my skin, there ́s no smoke or incense, just a long lasting rose. And green apples!? I really don ́t understand where they came from. Apparently my skin chemistry didn ́t pick up the notes I was hoping for. It smells really nice, but it wasn ́t what I was craving; so I let this beauty go.

I dont know who created it I am not sure even if I grow up to wear it..but to me its contemporary interpretation of France perfumery history closed in that buttle....I feel guerlain in it Chanel...I feel Provance and Versal palace.. I feel 1' century cottage village in southern France and I am Ciur the Russie Misia party with Louin 16th. in royal palace... Intersting... and sexy idea.

I cannot get enough of this fragrance. It’s sophisticated, a unique fresh peony scent with the comforting warmth and spice of the patchouli and myrrh I have a large fragrance collection, and many with similar notes but nothing quite like this. It’s been my go to since I picked it up a couple of months ago on a whim and I would definitely repurchase it

Is anyone decanting this? I'd like to try before I purchase. I love Gris Dior / Gris Montaigne by Dior, and this appears as a similar scent profile under Gris Dior. Can anyone confirm this?

At first I smelled a spice bomb, then I couldn't smell anything, my nose went blind. I was disappointed. Good thing I didn’t buy blind.

This is not a new fragrance - it is one of three "Les Classiques" just relaunched by L'Occitane. Definitely a fall/winter fragrance!

This perfume is like sophistication in a bottle for me. Might become my go to perfume.
