ETA: Here is where the discrepancy with this fragrance seems to lie: If one is used to florals, this will likely lean gourmand (especially in the drydown), and if one is used to sweet gourmands, this will likely lean floral (especially in the heart). I appear to have been downvoted, if that's what the star balloon indicates, for my honest review that I hoped would be helpful to anyone interested in purchasing the fragrance outside of Europe, which is hilarious to me. And also, that star balloon is very pretty, so I'll wear it with pride as someone who can actually still write well on my own in the age of AI-generated and AI-assisted everything. After some time with Mélilot, I will say I do get a small impression of hazelnut within the first few seconds, but it is still very much a yellow floral over the course of its duration (as advertised). I now, after more experience with fragrances, note the slight similarity to other yellow floral fragrances, like Bee by Zoologist, but this is softer and less honeyed. Again, there is none of the fresh green sweetness that is the actual sweet clover my papaw loved so much and used to cajole me into smelling on our nature walks, but she does resemble sweet clover in the powdery yellow floral way. And nothing like red blossom clover, as one expect, but adding some of the green clover would have been inspired. I will try layering it with Oriza L Legrand's Déjà le Printemps in order to invoke those memories more fully. ★Update!★ Layering this with Déjà le Printemps DOES work and gives more of that meadow vibe, though the blend concentrates more into a mélange of florals at times. Still, the pairing is precious to me as a scent that brings back memories of my mamaw and papaw and the time we spent in prairies, parks, and fields 🥰 Original Review: As a note to North Americans, Mélilot is currently a European-only L'Occitane offering and it seems that even European beauty merchants who ship overseas do not carry this and one will need to muck about with mail-forwarding services or buy from a private individual. I did the latter, choosing a popular reseller on eBay. This is my first day with Mélilot, and it is not exactly what I had envisioned from the description, the alleged notes, and the reviews, but it is very pleasant nonetheless. And I say this as a person who typically cannot stand floral perfumes. It is definitely a floral, make no mistake, but it is powdery, clean, and sweet— in that order. A bit too flowery for my tastes during the first hour or so, but it settles into something warmer and sweeter later. I have smelled fresh sweet clover often when it is in bloom and it is a gorgeous fresh sweet green scent. This is much less green. Possibly not green at all. It is still sweet, but think soapier, potpourri sweet as compared to the actual fresh flowers. And as for the hazelnut? None that I detect. I have Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa '62, and that is very hazelnut-forward. Mélilot, though, is all about wildflowers. After it dries down for a few hours, I do detect a tiny bit of bran or wheat, maybe, but it has been over 3 hours with it so far and it's still mostly flowers. That being said, it does achieve what I find nearly impossible— a beautiful, likeable, unique floral. As a floral, I would rate it a 9/10 or perfect 10/10. As for fragrances overall in all categories, I would say it merits an 8.5/10. I rate it as "love" here and I look forward to experimenting with layering, maturation, and rotation.

Melilot, also known as sweet clover, is a plant often referred to as boreal vanilla, sweetly nutty and reminiscent of newly mown grass. L'Occitane's Mélilot curiously lists extract of Melilotus officinalis, yellow melilot, among its ingredients, and while I am familiar with the dark, viscous melilot absolute (which I acquired from the now sadly shuttered White Lotus Aromatics), I have little knowledge of this extract. I can imagine that it does serve a purpose here in creating the accord, but beyond its more obvious coumarin core, Mélilot pleases me with its prominent cereal and bran biscuit characteristics. This convergence of grassland nuttiness and warm digestives with Wheatabix is as comforting as a belly rub in the meadow at sunset. Its dry down is what I can best describe as a blonde musk, toothsome and soft, with lingering traces of nut and grain and sweet clover whispers. If I were forced to categorize Mélilot it would be countryside gourmand: nothing too sweet or savory, only slightly green, enjoyed amongst wildflowers. I do want to give my regards to the reviewer below who simply states: "if you want to smell like a muesli bar, this is the one." Yes, that too.

It is rare to find a scent this unique. Mélilot smells exactly like a rustic kitchen making a loaf of bran or wheat bread with roasted hazelnuts. Alternatively, it smells like a simple breakfast of wheats or bran (many cereals have them) with a little honey and vanilla extract to sweeten things up. I think it can be a little challenging to noses. It's gourmand in a way that's more savory and grounded than many people who enjoy the genre would prefer.It is also a little more earthy and green than some floral lovers might enjoy. For me personally, I think it's a work of art that could easily become a signature scent if it speaks to you. This is a scent for the person who has no desire to yell their presence, but wear something entirely themselves. I've heard rumors of discontinuation (L'Occatine did not make gift sets of it this year, which is usually a omen of discontinuation or a scent that does not sell well), which doesn't surprise me. Get a smell while you can! It's currently on sale, and I must admitt a temptation to double dip!

Somehow warm and fresh simultaneously. Like a bakery or freshly chopped harvest. Its familiar. I don’t usually deviate from fruity, fresh tart scents but this is so beautiful and smooth. Sweet in a really natural, subtle and chronic way. Like if I harvested wheat and bran from my field and baked it into digestives from scratch the same day, then this would be the scent that would be wafting out my windows among all my other grain crops. Loosely biscuity. Gourmand but not rich? I think the greenness really balances the gourmand resulting in something very natural. Also delightfully nutty. Comforting, early autumn vibe. I love this.

This is the most unique scent I’ve smelled in a long while. The combination of hazelnut, hay, and bran is so comforting and addictive. It is a gourmand but does not cross over to the overly sweet territory. I wish it was a little stronger and lasted longer, but it is still a beautiful skin scent. If you like musky skin scents with a hint of nutty sweetness, this is it. It might be my new favourite perfume. EDIT : this is the best buy of 2024 to date. I love it.

This perfume is a hidden gem! Im in love!! I hope it wont get too popular otherwise it would lost the uniqueness. Someone commented that its like walking into a nutella factory. I can totally see that. There was a point in the drydown when the nutty, hazelnut note was very prominent. Its a beautiful, creamy feminine perfume. I use its body lotion too, i hope it will last longer using both.

warm baked oats with honey in the morning, with the sun shining in your kitchen window and the scent of yellow flowers and dry hay wafting with the warm summer wind... absurd, original, sooo tasty . didn't know how much I needed this until I smelled it . can't get enough!

When my first time to test these, it really standout among super fresh scent display. Its a fresh gourmande perfume. This reminds me of freshly baked almond oat cookie with dried pear. Upon the drydown, it smell fresh as well (similar to hermes)

Perfume perfect for the mouse girls, the critter coded girls, makes you feel like a cozy little character of Peter rabbit resting inside a tree trunk, eating nuts and napping on a fall day. Absolutely cozy, absolutely amazing.

Like eating a freshly baked bread, while sitting on a bale of hay in a wheat field. There's something nostalgic about it. It makes me feel happy :)

all of you talking about nutella are insane or lying. it's creamy, toasty, grassy, and nutty in that order. i've got a wheat heat bag shaped like a super soft and cute brown bunny with a widdle pink nose and this would be that thing's signature scent. i love the cereals at the base of this so much. my skin adores galbanum which is fine because i like it, but i'll be experimenting with ways to boost the grain accords.

This really is quite a lovely fragrance and not a mainstream scent at all, or at least I have not yet smelled such fragrance so far. It has a mild, warm, cozy vibe and reminds of a walk in wheat fields in the summer sun. It has a bit of a dusty almost quality to me, perhaps due to the bran. I detect no hazelnuts. Sadly, it's a fleeting experience on my skin, gone within minutes.

Tried this one before a 2 hour train ride and adored the opening!! But throughout the train ride is became cloying and gave me a headache :( I regretted not immediately buying it when I got on the train, but the longer it sat the more it became a generic sort of perfume a middle aged woman would wear in the 2000s. I appreciate it but it wasn’t for me.

To me this isn't the type of perfume to smell "pretty". I like this scent, but to me it's more of an olfactory experience. It's salty - the wheat, bran and hay notes are very prominent to my nose. I really wish I could buy it, but it would be more of a collectible to me than something to wear daily. But I'm really glad something like that exists!

The opening is what made me get it. It’s intensely hazelnutty to the point it made me crave chocolate hazelnut spread! However, the opening doesn’t last very long. The rest is a little floral and I can smell a bit of pear, but it’s soft and creamy and buttery so still lovely. It’s honestly very likeable, very nice for winter to spring transition

I wish I had taken more time with this when I smelled it, but the salesperson at the L'Occitane I went to was so aggressive that I fled in an indecisive panic. My initial (and only) impression was that it smelled like locally-sourced wildflower honey.

To my nose, this is perfume is almost a dead ringer for Un Jardin à Cythère, except the opening to this is a bit more honeyed and sweet. As it settles on the skin, it becomes increasingly similar.

I don't think this smells like Un Jardin a Cythere but I can understand the comparisons with the old version of Scarlet Poppy. It has a similar feel, but there is a bitter and green hazelnut scent in here. That could be the galbanum mixed with the hazelnut, but it calms down a bit after 5 minutes or so. It doesn't have the same fuzzy feel as Scarlet Poppy but it's a pretty and sweet, ancient grain sort of scent. It's reminding me of something that isn't in the list above... I can't put my finger on it but it’s familiar! It does also feel a little bit like a relative of Terra de Lumiaire... a honeyed, warm scent with the L'occitane DNA. Okay.... Am I mad, or is this L’Occitane’s take on the BR540 profile?! It’s making me think of seductive Red / Cloud with that pear and fluffy sweetness, but with a bitter green edge! Is anyone else getting that or just me?! I'm wondering if the bitter woody scent that is haunting this fragrance is deliberate, or if it's the aroma chemical that's in tons of modern perfumes, which smells like tar to me. I think I might have to send this one to a new home because either way, there's a burning rubber and wood smell here that bothers me! In the end this did leave my collection as something in it bothered me and my husband thought it smelt like old biscuits! oh well, I'll enjoy smelling it on other people!

Mélilot smells mainly of wheat, cereals (the real ones, not the ones you buy at the supermarket, let's be clear) with a hint of wood. I'm not a big fan of "cereal" smells but here, it's very soft, very nice, not aggressive, and - even if I wouldn't go so far as to wear it - the whole thing is quite original while remaining simple. Note that according to the L'Occitane website, these are not hazelnuts but hazel leaves, so don't expect a smell of hazelnuts, you will be disappointed. Not safe for a blind buy imo.

It was a blind buy, so far I don't know if I'll get used to it. It has too little herbal notes and too much coumarin, which makes it very sweet. I still like it at the beginning, it's creamy and milky, but the drydown is pure tonka. There is almost no hazelnut in it, but unfortunately neither is cedar or vetiver. I will try it later, maybe on clothes or in another season. Update. In hot weather I can smell the hazelnuts, but it's still sweeter than I'd like.

It is a walk in the nutella factory. The toasted hazelnut note is a bit heavy during the dry down, then it fades into a generic warm and sweet gourmand. A bit mediocre, however top notes and the first spray was promising.

Straight up smells like a nice 90s shampoo to my nose. A pleasant scent, but none of the described notes were there for me, and I most definitely can't detect any 'cottagecore' vibes from it.

This is more fresher then I thought it would be... What I get is mostly cedar and vetiver. Wheat and nutty accord are there too but really faintly. 5/10

My ex-farmboy husband immediately identified the bran and cereal accord. I bought this for the hazelnut note, which is nice, but the composition as a whole smells like lying out on a sun-warmed haystack threaded through with wildflowers, though the sweet clover is the only floralcy in evidence. An instant love for me. Familiar and unusual. Melilot reminds me a bit of wheat-protein enriched shampoos of the 90’s- opens a touch fruity but mostly honey rich, and FINALLY a perfume where the cereal/grain notes actually come through. I’m reminded of milky oats in the apothecary, a sunny field of wheat, drying plants outdoors. IMO this is niche but quite wearable and not challenging at all. Comforting and easy to reach for.

This is a non-linear perfume and every stage is pleasant. It smells green at first (might be the hay) then turns sweet-nutty-fruity and finally, lightly floral-woody. Gourmand for non-gourmand lovers. I'd argue that this is actually a wearable fragrance contrary to what others have said. Knowing L'occitane this will probably be discontinued soon, but i hope not because i think it's one of their best.

Crunchy nutty, dry delicious. Wow Super comforting and a great great base for any gourmand that wants a chestnut 🌰 note Predominantly chestnut bran and wheat i don't smell any other note. Peanut butter oat biscuit. This is very different from Hermès Un Jardin a Cythère aside from a shared wheat note. Hermès has this harsh citrus note that makes it unwearable for me and gives me a headache. Melilot is much smoother with no bitter or discordant notes and a more gourmand, nutty note with a slight greenness. Very delightful!

NEW PACKAGING Just giving everyone a heads up - on October 1, 2025, L'Occitane globally relaunched this scent in new bottle as part of their reimagined and minimalist "Flora Orchestra" collection. The formula of the fragrance has not changed. This scent will be discontinued in late 2026. Hope this helps!

It’s fresh, soft and smooth. A good choice for summer, it’s clean but not harsh and it’s a bit wheaty. It’s really nice. More feminine than masculine, in my opinion. Try it if you want a more countryside fragrance for summer.

It’s a bit green and floral, but mostly creamy on me. Think oak milk, or almond butter, wheat flour.
