Loewe 001 Eau de Cologne

Delicious. I love this stuff. It’s simple, refined, high quality and such a treat in the warm weather when you just fancy an invigorating lemon and a cosy musk. To condense it to its two main notes it is lemons and white musk. There’s more to it obviously, but those are the main players. I’m not going to try to pick apart individual elements, because its essence is the classic mix of lemon and musk, and it’s delicious. I was given this in summer, and going in completely blind, I was not expecting or prepared for what happened. It opens as a beautiful lemon bomb, a very tart natural smelling lemon rind and zest, but also almost like a fizzy lemon sherbet too. OK I thought, delicious, I love it, like a more yellow 4711. I smelled it again maybe 10 minutes later, and I swear I said something aloud like “where the hell have all the lemons gone?!” I’d had no other fragrance that did such a dramatic switch. What creeps through rather quickly is the beginning of the white musk through some orange blossom and powder. What stays is that musk, but it retains some of its citrus sweetness throughout, but with some subtle woods and some light tonka. I’ll be honest, that surprise immediately cemented the idea that I wanted this perfume torn in two - I loved the lemon opening enough to want to just wear that as it was, and I also loved the warm powdery Musk. I had to get my head around the complete 180 it does. I grew to love the musk majority of it, and in no time I loved the entire experience. I believe lemon and musk is a very traditional scent profile in Spain (Loewe are a Spanish house) so I think it is maintaining a cultural tradition of fragrance genre. There are a few others in the 001 range, so anyone interested must be sure to look for the “001 Eau de Cologne” bottle. Although I do have 001 Man, and that too is sublime, and I can smell some similarities, again with the lemon and the musks but with a more iris and violet heart, not unlike the Dior Homme effect. It’s marketed as unisex, and as a guy I can vouch for its genderless versatility. I’m inexperienced with musk centric fragrances. Loewe use musk in a lot of their perfumes, but this is a clear and obvious musk (to me). I’ll say this too, to me, it in no way performs like a “cologne”, it’s very robust, and it even lasts longer than a lot of my EDT’s, and even some of my EDP’s! It’s lovely in the summer, but I occasionally randomly felt the need for it in the winter, and I found something cosy and comforting in the powdery fresh but almost warm effective simplicity of it.

A cologne with a modern twist, which starts citrusy, of course, with some candied lemons, it then goes into a more woody, musky territory. I do smell some kind of fuzzy, cashmeran-y molecules and a slightly powdery sandalwood underneath that gives some body to the fragrance. It's interesting because while it's clean and refreshing, it's not very cheerful or uplifting. It gives me a "grey", moody and serious vibe. Very interesting composition.

My husband picked up miniatures of the 001 line at a thrift store, and the Eau de Cologne stood out to me in it's balance. A fresh, warm and creamy citrus spritzed musk. Orange blossom lightly sweetened and smoothed out in iris and tonka. Transparent and cozy in the way that is sits on skin. Not my usual style at all, but so easy that it feels like having a vacation personality. Is the 001 EDC discontinued?

This one is gorgeous. If you like the rest in the line, the EDT and the EDP, you'll probably like this one too. This one lasts longer than the EDT, so don't be fooled by the concentration. I have sprayed it on at bed time and still smell it on my clothes/ skin in the morning. Don't look over this one.

An almost candied lemon + musk that has a powdery and soft woody dry down. Sits close to the skin but has impressive lasting power.

I wish this had reviews by others as it has similar notes to Prada Infusion d’Iris, Tanagra, and Estee Lauder Tender Lights but I still have to try all of them to compare 🤔
