Loewe 001 Man EDT

This is an unheralded beauty of a fragrance. Most Loewe offerings languish in relative obscurity in the USA (don’t know about Europe) and that works to the advantage of anyone who discovers the house. There are EDP and EDT versions of this fragrance with an identical bottle that are quite different, so make sure you know which one you’re looking at! If you know the house of Loewe, you’ll smell some DNA similarities in many of their modern fragrances. 001 Man EDT has similarities with the Solo Line- wood, lavender, orange (maybe lime? It still smells like orange to me), cinnamon and musk being prominent in both. But I prefer 001 by a wide margin due to the light, cheerful, transparent treatment of the composition. It works so much better as a summery fragrance rather than a dense one like Solo. 001 EDT is just complex enough to avoid any “typical” or “generic” criticism- in fact, it is a quite a unique scent profile for the warm weather. Orange musk with a slight hint of warm cinnamon. Sound good? It’s great!

Loewe 001 Man Eau de Toilette misses the iris note that is quite notorious in the Eau de Parfum, and this works in its favour, because the edt is woodier and fresher and less floral and powdery. In fact, this is one of the best woody fragrances that you can get nowadays. After the initial blast of semi-sweet citruses (probably bergamot and mandarin orange), the woody nature of the scent takes the lead. Sandalwood, musk and soft touch of lavender are perfectly balanced to produce an original aroma that lingers for several hours. In fact, this has an enormous sillage for an edt, and as it has only 74% of alcohol, many other brands could label it as an eau de parfum or even a parfum. One big plus is the atomizer. It is one of the most refined ones that I have ever used and it creates a wonderful mist of small droplets. It is good news that Loewe is moving all their lines to this bottle and atomizer (Loewe 7 atomizers were crap, Loewe Solo atomizers were good but not great).

I must say I really enjoy this perfume. It has got the notes that I have been searching for. Before having read @Made by Kouros comments below, I saw the notes thinking its a linear lavender musky note (was actually hoping if it will be a milder and lighter version of Lavender Extreme), went Sephora to test this out and was really captivated. I got myself a bottle of this nonetheless. And after seeing Made by Kouros comments, I got most of the notes listed, The opening has got this bright citrusy lime which I really hoped could last longer. The lavender musk cinnamon notes are very prominent. I sprayed this to sleep last night and this morning I can still catch a small scent whiff of it.

It’s almost identical to EDP, but I don’t think it has that citrusy scent.8/10

Definitely more notes than the ones here in Fagrantica. I get a sharp lemon, tonka, a little bit of ambrette and some aromatics... Reminds me a bit of a classic cologne or something like Sculpture or Chanel Allure HSE. For the price is quite nice, but kind of boring after a while. Something simple that works.

idk why it initially smelled v carrot-like which i didn’t like, but after macerating it became a favourite! so creamy and musky but with a citrusy opening, great and safe work scent :) definitely not an annoying scent doesn’t project too much

Very easy and fresh scent for an everyday wear. I really like how the sandalwood adds a little bit of complexity to the base. I also get some orange and bitterness, in a very good way. The whole feels clean and light.

Given how this has similarities to two pretty popular modern fragrances, it's interesting how this has slipped totally under the radar. The opening reminisces Dior Homme (2011); was shocked to discover that there is no iris note listed. Powdery, mild floral sweet, with that miniscule characteristic sourness in the back which appears when citrus and iris occur together. These Dior Homme accords start to sit back (but are still present) in the drydown, but elements of Byredo Gypsy Water begin to take over. Creamy lemon sandalwood, vanillic nuances hinting at a lemon meringue impression. A much more powerful and lasting Gypsy Water; haven't lovers of that scent been asking for that? Not for me personally, but considering how big DH and Gypsy Water are, it's amazing how this has gone unnoticed for years. I guess that's what happens when an interesting scent with simple presentation gets minimal marketing.

Notes of this edt according to Loewe's website: A woody, spicy fragrance characterised by the elegance of LAVENDER and the strength of MUSK. The lightest and most citric version of LOEWE 001 MAN is also notable for its freshness and energy due to the LIME which is complemented by the softness of ORANGE FLOWER, the sparkling character of RED PEPPER, and the exoticism of Ceylon CINNAMON.

-Leathery, pepper scent. -Not a standout in terms of perfumery. -CdG makes better woody, incense scents for males. -Recc: Black pepper by CdG for a similar peppery vibe. (Bewarned it lasts only an hour) -Recc: American Cream by Lush for a herbal lavender scent with more milky notes. (unisex) (-)

This scent is incredible. Soft, warm, clean and long lasting. Love.
