Loewe 7 Cobalt

Just got my 50ml bottle in the mail today. I blind bought it and I couldn’t be more pleased with the purchase. My only complaint is that I didn’t spring for the 100ml. Because my collection is rather large, I usually stay away from bigger bottles, but I could and absolutely would end up using all of a 100ml. I had heard and watched a ton of hyped reviews on this fragrance. I own basically every high end “blue fragrance on the planet, from designer to niche. I thought to myself, “ how special and different can this scent really be”? Well, it truly is both of those, special and different. Different in the sense that it isn’t linear, because it changes as you wear it in multiple phases. Special in the sense that it really does have sneaky performance. Not only does it jump off your skin and have really good sillage, but it is super potent in the way of a little really does go a long way. I put a single pump on my wrist after I got home from my night shift and tested it for the first time. 2 hours later my wife woke up to get ready for her shift at the hospital and immediately asked what the amazing scent was. I was super shocked because I literally only did one spray. And, you have to keep in mind that I am talking about a woman who IS NEVER IMPRESSED with anything I buy or wear. And not to brag, but I have a ton of heavy hitters in this fragrance realm! Basically, this scent is a super star blue and it very well may be the king of blues. Let’s just say I won’t be wearing my BDC EDP, BDC PARFUM, Dior Sauvage EDP, Chanel Allure homme extreme, Dior homme sport or Dior homme 2020. I could go on as I have at least 15 fragrances in the blue genre, but I listed these because they are what everybody holds high in this particular landscape, including myself. I consider them the best of the blues. 7 cobalt takes the crown. I buy a lot of my fragrances blind. To me it is a fun part of the hobby. Pleasant surprises or reselling to get something else, lol. This one will ALWAYS be in my rotation. BDC Parfum is now bumped to number 2.

Oh, man, where to even begin describing this masterpiece. Loewe 7 Cobalt is a fragrance reminiscent of Chanel’s Bleu de Chanel line, though I’d argue it should be compared to the Parfum version rather than the EDT or EDP, since it is denser, heavier, and more mature, very much in line with BDC Parfum. Don’t get me wrong, it carries some DNA of BDC, but the scent itself is different. That being said, it is far from linear; it evolves noticeably from start to finish. To my nose, blackcurrant stands out as the main player here, supported by tonka beans. As for longevity and performance, I applied this fragrance to my cap yesterday, and more than 15 hours later I could still smell it in my room as if only a few moments had passed. The longevity and projection are outstanding, especially considering that this is only an EDP. In fact, it performs on the same level as BDC Parfum, if not better. The quality of the ingredients used in this creation is undeniable. It feels appropriate for almost any place and occasion though probably not for the gym, despite its shower-gel freshness. I also need to mention, however, that the packaging could be improved. I like the box art, but the box itself should either open more smoothly, like Apple products, or include a feature that makes unboxing easier. If I worked as a designer for Loewe, I’d redesign the bottle to look more premium. As it stands, there are visible manufacturing defects (lines), the label feels as if it may eventually fall off, and the cap isn't great, almost as if I could tear the atomizer off by accident when I open the cap. A magnetic cap would be far more appropriate. If Loewe 7 Cobalt had been released by Chanel instead of L'Exclusif, people would pay the ridiculous price without complaint, and it would surely be hailed as a masterpiece. A year ago i stumbled upon this one in a shop. I wasn't familiar with the brand Loewe at all, so i tested a few of their different colored bottles. I sprayed this on my hand and in the beginning it felt like just another blue fragrance, but the quality was undeniably there. I'm not a big fan of blue scents or summer dna's in particular. This time though, i kept sniffing my hand the rest of the day. Each time realizing the artistic workmanship it takes to strike a fresh scent with complexity like this one has. Today i finally got it and tried it out again, sniffing my hand all day for the sake of olfactory science. It starts aromatic with a combination of lively sage accompanied by a citrusy burst of fresh, yet tart juniper berry note. Once it settles, some fruity and spicy nuances start to make it to the stage. The pink pepper and clove notes appear and play a part in this twist of tales. During the later stages, the incense and vetiver as well as sage note create a very sexy smoky, yet herbal, aromatic drydown with some pink pepper in the background - which is my favorite part of the fragrance journey. Got a compliment with it on the first wear. Versatile as fuck. Performance wise, it's more of a long lasting scent than a projecting scent - though it projects nicely in the first hour. This one doesn't scream at you or others. It takes a step back after asserting itself, and starts to brew the magic on skin taking you through a sophisticated, deep, blue journey. 10/10 & I'll definitely be looking more into what Loewe have to offer.

Not the most impressive fragrance in the opening, but wait. Just wait for the top notes to fade, and it gets really good. But, wait a while longer, and you will be greeted with something very special. But wait a little longer and you will be greeted by one of the best things I have ever had the pleasure of getting my nose over. Absolutely superb, this is stellar fragrance unlike any other. Sometimes I forget how good it is, and I have to wear it and wait. This fragrance has four different phases. The opening is aromatic sage, fruity currant and citrus, then it loses the citrus and the pepper makes it spicy, then it gets green and creamy, and finally it becomes smokey and earthy. It's really one of those fragrances that takes me on a journey. Safe for all seasons and all occasions, but it really needs heat to lift up that drydown and let it open up properly. I have worn this in every single type of weather, and in the Spring and Summer it evolves into something absolutely spectacular and it lasts and lasts and lasts. It doesn't scream, it stays relatively close for most of its life. I have seen this fragrance compared to many others and some of them do contain shades of it, but none can truly come close to the magnitude and artistry on display here, not even the "similar" fragrances that cost quite a bit more. This is a niche blue fragrance, cut and dry. I think this will forever be in my top 10 fragrances and it smells better than almost anything that costs 3x as much. 97/100

One of those fragrances I had heard of but never went out of my way to test. I am now a huge fan of this fragrance. I see this as the more mature blue fragrance. Definitely not an older person blue fragrance but more sophisticated. It doesn't lean too sweet or woody or citrus like most would. This one has a clean soft spiced incense vibe throughout. I totally see the BDC similarities. It's like they made a grown up niche style fragrance then they said ok now make it very mass appealing and made BDC. At first you get YSL Y EDP then BDC parfum. Just to give an idea but this totally does its own thing. It's a clean almost shower gel like opening with nice aromatics then it starts really leaning into the incense. It's a super clean incense. You then start getting light touches of the cloves tonka and pink pepper to round things out. Performance is pretty good. 6 hours out of 4 sprays has been the average so far which isn't bad . It's as versatile as any other blue fragrance but this can be worn in a more professional setting . As far as comparisons BDC is close. YSL Y EDP just a bit. I have to really disagree with the Moncler comparison, it's almost shocking that it's the highest comparison. Gladiator is another one of my favorites but gladiator is more bright and woody. It's really doing its own thing with the use of incense. I give this an 8.5 /10
