Loewe Pour Homme

"Loewe? Who are they?" I responded, when another member, I talk with often on the phone, asked me if I had ever tried them. "You'll see", they said (and I swear I could actually hear a subtle smug smile). Well, see and sniff I have. God, what a beautiful creation that I would have never experienced otherwise, had it not been for Fragrantican kindness... *Thank you John, yet again!* Loewe pour homme, when it hit my arm, smelled sour and kinda weird (aldehydes?); but as they, almost immediately, subsided an absolutely gorgeous green aroma wafted all around me. Citruses, sweet and sunny, and warm green basil became something superb and elegant. Sheer green muguet and soft lavender added floralcy, but it stayed green and bright. I detect something dry and peppery, no doubt the geraniums, as it continues to dry. Not too citric, nor herbally/flowery, LPH has an amzing aroma: natural, manly and quite invigorating. A drydown of clean incensy sandalwood with dry vetiver and heavenly oakmoss finish this as something just as green as it was, only a lot more down to earth and seriously sexy without any animalic feeling. I do not see why the "notes" are listed as linear; it definitely had some development on me. Perhaps a superhero would wear this. More than Batman, I see Green Arrow or maybe even Professor Xavier (mentor of the X-Men) sporting this. Clean, yet earthy with a hint of class and sharp wit about it, Loewe PH is not all that complex; but it is powerful and amazingly (and meanly) green... Sillage: great Longevity: very good Overall: 4.25/5 I had heard a few things about this House but had NO idea, they were this wonderful. Aromatic and fougere this deserves the classification it has received. To be completely honest, when I saw the release date (1974) I expected something somewhat stuffy, loud and "barber shop" smelling. Perish that thought! If I smelled like this after coming out of a Barber Shop, I would have to let my favorite stylist go...and get in line for a shave and a haircut! The more I sniff vintages and then go to the Fragrance Counters, the more I really wish I had been born maybe twenty years earlier, as so many of these gems are discontinued and expensive and hard-to-find! I noticed in the demographics, of the "votes" above, that no one (male or female) under 25 voted on this, at all. You should give it a try, Boys...you don't know what you are missing!

Revieweing the 90's formulation, never tried the current one: Starts with a very sharp, astringent and not that realistic lemon note, very similar to original Armani PH (which don't like at all), with an ever-present mossy background. After that come the aromatic herbs, giving the so mentioned mediterranean feel. What impressed me the most is the from the middle phase and on (actual drydown); vetiver is clearly present but also some sweetness provided by I'd guess tonka beans, and other woody notes (not sure if sandal or guaiac maybe?). This aspect really reminded me of YSL Rive Gauche... I'll go as far as saying the last one is a Loewe PH rendition with star anise replacing the lemon note (and some complexity added too). In all, a very pleasant and surprising discover, much more up-to-date than the release date would suggest, surely a timeless classic worth in any collection. 8,5/10 --------------------------------------------------------- Repasando la formulación de los años 90, nunca probé la actual: Comienza con una nota de limón muy afilada, astringente y no tan realista, muy similar a la del Armani PH original (que no es de mi agrado en absoluto), con un fondo de musgo siempre presente. En general, un descubrimiento muy agradable y sorprendente, mucho más actual de lo que la fecha de lanzamiento sugeriría, sin duda un clásico atemporal que vale la pena en cualquier colección. 8,5 / 10

Loewe(LO-WAY-VAY) pour Homme is a traditional masculine fougere. It opens with a blend of lemon and tangerine with a healthy dose of freshly ground spice (smells like anise to me). The citruses blend into floral notes of red geranium and lily of the valley backed with a healthy dose of oakmoss. Lavender is present yet mellow. It smells like a high quality shaving cream with hints of tangerine citrus. The citrus lends a small dose of sweetness but never anything overpowering or feminine. The combination of citrus, spices, and floral freshness is invigorating. All in all, Loewe pour Homme is fresh, elegant, and incredibly smooth. If I had to compare this to a fragrance I've worn in the past, I'd say it's close to Azzaro pour Homme but manages to smell more masculine with dark spices. My only gripe is being an eau de toilette concentration, the longevity isn't the greatest. Does it smell dated? No. Loewe pour Homme still manages to be contemporary and unique despite being 52 years old. This would make a fantastic signature scent. I may be in the minority but I absolutely love the presentation and bottle design that Loewe uses. Smells exactly like the bottle looks. Slightly orange, slightly earthy, clean and sharp. Sadly looks like this has been discontinued because it is no longer available on Loewe's website. Love it. 10/10. Perfect daily driver fragrance if you're a man looking for something that is well executed and smells fantastic. I want to gatekeep this one.

The notes voted here are (this time) spot-on. Opens with a strong old school lemon. Shortly after it will be getting the support of the basil, giving some green aspect and florals. Then, everybody leaves the stage to let it for a bitter moss and a stunning nutty vetiver duo, rounded by a subtle hint of vanilla (more guess than really noticeable). I first tried it when preparing a lemon tiramisu, thus, standing in between fresh lemon zests and lemon juice, I could easily confirm that the sharp lemon note here is not true to the real deal, but remains nonetheless pleasant. It's during its development that Loewe Pour Homme takes off and blooms with an heavenly evolution. Not really similar, but this one vaguely reminded me of Monsieur by Lancetti. Like for the Lancetti's, performance is disappointing, but a bit of overspraying will get you a moderate projection for a couple of hours, and a longevity of 5-6 hours. (without doing so, it's a skin scent after 5min, and will not last more than 2 hours). Because of that, a bottle will probably not last long, and I thus would suggest not to spend big bucks on that one. Still, I recommend it because it is well blended, even if far from unique, and I feel that the $40 I've spent on a 150ml/5oz bottle is just a fair deal. Still, a small love for me. #685 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a sample sprayette. This is one of those EDTs where I really wish they'd do an EDP version. You can certainly tell this scent was introduced in 1974. It's an old-school suit-and-tie fragrance. We got some great fragrances back in the '60s and '70s that have stood the test of time, some that I still own. Dior Eau Sauvage, Aramis, Grey Flannel, Polo, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Chanel No. 19, Givenchy Gentleman, all legendary. Very masculine chypre-fougeres, very green, very classic office wear for the Mad Men. Everything works here, and for an EDT it performs better than most. It is very similar in many ways to Jacque Bogart's very underappreciated EDTs "Bogart", "Bogart Pour Homme" and "Bogart One Man Show" (check the notes for yourself), any of which you can own for less than $19. I recommend them all, especially "Bogart" which adds some smoke and leather to this mix of notes. And if you like this, you will adore Dior Eau Savage EDT and Parfums. This is a scent worth owning to my nose primarily because the combination of lemon and tangerine notes is less screechy in the opening than the bergamot used in most scents in this class. And in this vanillic fragrance era, this sort of very green-mossy scent will stand out and get noticed. I'm in for a bottle.

I am calling all you guys out that say "smell like your grandpa" Your GrandPa could probably teach you a thing or two about grooming, cleanliness and looking dapper. He is from the time when fragrance could define what a man is with all his burly glory. There is nothing wrong with those great classic fragrances except they have become unfamiliar to younger noses because of the ingredients now missing from modern perfumery because of IFRA and their regulations. Ingredients like Oakmoss, and certain animal notes are no longer a consideration. Now days everything has to be so darn sweet and metrosexual or unisex smelling like a pastry or dessert. Anyway back to the fragrance at hand. This is a classic barber shop Fougere that is very much like the smell of "YSL Pour Homme" with the strong lemon opening with geranium, lavender and oak moss and the addition of Sandalwood, Amber and Vetiver. A beautiful and masculine clean fragrance that can be worn in any weather at any time. I appreciate that this fragrance is still offered while YSL Pour Homme was discontinued. They only started a couple years apart from each other back in the 1970's and YSL didn't do bad financially with that fragrance and it sold a lot of bottles before it was yanked away. Sad

Typical of its time? Efficient? Perhaps, but Loewe Pour Homme just feels so damn good to wear. A 70s aromatic "chygere" (what seems like a chypre and fougere hybrid, I opted for this rather than "foupre," because I think it's self-explanatory), it has that "spring in your step, shuffle in your feet" lemon in its opening accompanied by a lovely lavender. Soon thereafter, an "ooh, that feels good" green, sprightly basil comes in, an "I feel handsome" bit of an inclination, a fresh from the barber and ready to conquer the world sort of sensation. There is also a phase that smells just like crushing scented geranium leaves in your hand. I've done this a lot—I am obsessed with Pelargonium graveolens. It warms into the expected mossy splendor of men's marvels of the time, grassy from vetiver and a smooth vanillic/coumarin base. The progression is confident and clean to sensual and rugged; a gentleman in the streets and a lover in the sheets. It's not to say that this is exact replacement for YSL Pour Homme, but for those who want an approximation of that with an added bitter-green herbaceousness and without the musky heavy petting, Loewe would be a great addition in at least the early 2000s version I have with this vivid green juice.

Citrus. From the time I started my penchant for perfumes to spending 10 years of collecting perfumes, I tended to always look for something unusual. Citrus perfumes to me were, too ordinary. I think I purposely overlooked citrus perfumes all this time, consciously - until I found Loewe Pour Homme and turned 30. Being 30. I think it's true that it takes time and maturity for one to be able to appreciate citrus fragrances or classics. In my case, it's 30 years. I used to wonder why Hermes has so many citrus fragrances, why do I think of Italians when I think of citrus, why are there so many shades of citrus, why barbershops use citrus scented products. Now I know.. Citruses are like colors and finding a perfect blend of citrus fragrance is an art. Citrus is elegance, is gentleman, is wisdom. I just purchased this spanish jewel today. Its so magnificent, i love how the citrus notes explode like a bomb when you first apply it on your skin, it smells like an elegant old fashioned barber shop in Madrid, and smelling this trully brings back a lot of memories from the Land of Don Quijote, Picasso, Diego Velazquez and Antonio Banderas !!!! This is SPAIN in a bottle, beautiful, strong, mediterranean, manly fragrance, its bouquet is very very special,in extreme different if compared with all the "mainstream" fragrances so popular nowadays like bleu de chanel, or one million and vulgar crappy stuff like that. This one is very elegant,and fresh, perfect for the summer in the Mediterranean, a good shower, linen shirt and Loewe pour homme, i give this awesome juice 10/10 with great sillage and logevity... ... Viva España y OLÉEEEE !!!!

This is a nice take on the barbershop perfumes out there. Soapy, but not too much. Cirtus, but not too much. Woody, but not too much, although I personaly would prefer a little bit more woods in it. It reminds me, on my skin, a lot to Castle Forbes 1445. Only where 1445 stays soapy, this one has more citrus and woody elements to it. The thangerine I guess, gives this one a nice twist. I see people comparing this to Eau Sauvage, but I personaly only get that in the opening. Pour Homme by YSL is a better comparisson. Longevity: No complaining about that. Projection: Better than most barbershops. Overall quality: Excelent. Outdated: None at all. Muscular: Defenitaly muscular leaning, but it won't grow hair on your chest. It's for the gentlemen amoung us. A great all year rounder and suitable for every occassion.

Loewe Pour Homme is a timeless masterpiece. A simple yet elegant compostion built around vibrant lemons and aromatic herbs, grounded on a creamy woody base with sophisticated touches of oakmoss and vetiver. A refined classic from top to bottom which makes for one heck of a mascluine treat. Just a joy to wear anytime, anywhere on any occasion. To me, its one of those fragrances that becomes a top 5 immediately after revisiting. Compared to others in the same genre, it is actually very very close to YSL's Pour Homme, but without those distinct animalic touches, making the Loewe more approachable and versatile. Unfortunately, it seems to have been discontinued now (no longer available on their website) which is a shame.

If you are into fougere here is a pearl! Consider only a vintage bottle, the EDT produced these days is appalling. The basil note plus the great quality oakmoss in the vintage are what make it stand out. It is one of these fougeres that you spray on a jacket, hang the jacked for a few days and forget about it... only to be remembered of the fragrance while you hold jacket again. Yes it is related to classic YSL Pour Homme but it is not as citrus in the opening. I love them both but think they are different animals. This one moves deeper into the forest, YSL Pour Homme is sunnier, allows us to see it more in the open. Nothing created afterwards by Loewe comes even close to this.

Soon as I dabbed this on, I knew I had smelled something similar before. So I looked through some stowed away bottles, decants, samples, etc. I then came across my 30ML old bottle of GPH which I never use due to its rarity, so I sprayed some on. In short: I was shockingly surprised, at how similar Loewe Pour Homme is to the original Gucci Pour Homme from 1976. The Gucci is overall better due to its depth and texture, delicacy and additional layer of smoothness, but boy does this Loewe hold its ground. Its more acidic, and not as rich, but the quality is absolutely top notch. EDIT: Very Similar to vintage Eau Sauvage also.

I think this might be the best 'For Men's basic fragrance in the designer at the moment. This beats Dior, Chanel, and even Dolce & Gabbana. It opens up with lots of bitter orange, reminding me or bitter orange liqueur. Dries down to lots of vetiver, oakmoss accord, and prominent basil in the mid. This smells like the color of the bottle - dark, bitter, touch earthy orange, based on vetivwr and oakmoss accord. Lasts 7+, projects moderately since the beginning. Smells natural, grown up, and is going to be an amazing signature spring to autumn, office safe, lasting probably a whole day in summer.

It ́s hard to find words to define the excellent quality of this fragrance. Outdated? No! Not at all. This fragrance reflects the excellence of Loewe House. As mentioned on the package it's "full of memories". I remember using this perfume, in my 20 years of age on those early days of the 90s. It is a fresh scent, very elegant, exquisite, with good longevity and that takes us to the south of Spain and the breeze from the Mediterranean coast. Unforgettable. This is a perfume with 40 years of age in the world of fragrances for men. A must in my collection. My second signature scent.

Just beautiful, an aromatic masterpiece. The basil and lemon note accord is prominent, an enveloping herbal sunniness that endures throughout. It’s a classic fougere alright, but it dwells on the gentlemanly side of the tracks. Noticeably absent of leather, patchouli, aldehydes, musk, Loewe is a clean, uplifting, masculine gem. Simple and elegant. Loewe is a great (and somewhat underrated) house. I have the older, rounded bottle - I don't know how the current "corporate bottle" version compares.

At first it smells like any other citric blend, Eau Sauvage, Monsieur de Givenchy, etc. What sets it apart is the drydown - it has a an animalic, skanky note that lurks on the skin for a significant time for this kind of composition - fleeting, more even so for today's tastes. It can be a perfect match for those looking after discontinued ones like YSL pour Homme and Balmain. Not so spicy like the first one and more natural smelling than the second. Still, a good option.

Loewe pour homme is a very well-made and very balanced fragrance. It is fresh woody and despite having been created for a long time, its aroma does not smell outdated, however the current version is a bit weak in projection, but maintains a regular longevity. Its aroma is herbal with a Mediterranean touch. Its ideal use seems to me that it would be daytime and in summer and spring times. It reminds me of a fragrance I knew a long time ago called Bowling Green.

@ishirininatano actually was created by Marcel Carles. This is a spanish house and many of these classic fragrances from the brand were created by spanish perfumers. For some reason, Loewe Esencia edt is credited in some places to Carlos Benaïm but it was created by Jacques Chabert according to Wikiparfum, which is the more trustful database for perfumes. Its frim Puig and everything is checked by professionals, including most prominent notes.

This is a very unique scent, it open up very fresh citrusy with a little spiciness, after a bit on paper the spiciness fade aways leaving a very citrusy fresh and a little bit of mysteriousness. Definitely one for the summer and hotter days

I'm so lucky to own the vintage one. Lukemosse says the whole truth,this is an exceptional one, Long lasting and very powerful. Can't find any similarities with YSL or Salvador Dalí...

Loewe Para Hombre is a bitter, herbal Mediterranean-styled chypre/fougère hybrid in the style of Aramis Tuscany or (more distantly), Azzaro Pour Homme. If anything. I'd say it's an aromatic fougère. Loewe Para Hombre is bone-dry and revolves around an accord of stark, bitter Clary Sage, lavender, and patchouli. The use of oakmoss and tonka in the base combined with the lavender decidedly make it smell like an aromatic fougère, and it gives me the same traditionally masculine, "meat and potatoes man" vibe that I get from most aromatic fougères. It actually gives off a "spa" sort of vibe on my skin. That "spa" vibe must be the herbs, because this stuff is all about a bitter, natural herbal notes to exclude any hint of sweetness from this and make it as masculine and conserved as possible. I would say it lasts anywhere from 6 to 10 hours on my skin, depending on weather and application. I have a vintage bottle, so I can't judge the current formulation, but the version I have is definitely a quality fragrance. It took me a while to get into it, though, so I strongly suggest sampling first - don't blind buy Loewe Para Hombre.

Sharp astringent notes in the opening. It's aromatic and spicy, maybe some clove-like nuances. Starts fairly dark and herbaceous, brings to mind many classic-smelling male cologne's/aftershaves. Gets soapier as it wears and starts to lighten up a little too. There are faint peppery, coniferous notes leading into a base of powdery, but muted, clean vanilla. As it finally turns to a skin-scent it becomes suprisingly citrussy along with subtle floral notes. This is without doubt a masculine fragrance, certainly in the first 2-3hrs anyway. Would work well most of the year though may be a bit much in high summer. Suits a more mature man and is more of a daytime/casual scent. (The first half is closer to "Quorum/Grey Flannel", the second half is reminiscent of "Habit Rouge". I don't think it's that close to "Eau Sauvage" but can see why some might think so)

On the test strip this smelled a bit too sweet for my taste...the lemon and lavender are quite prominent in the opening. On the skin, these subside quickly and the oakmoss comes forward with subtle amber and sandlewood tones. There is still a tinge of vetiver and tangerine and a bit of geranium to keep it fresh. The lily is there as well, but the fragrance is very nicely balanced so no one note takes stage. Over time the flower and fruit notes retreat further and I get mostly musky oakmoss-sandlewood on drydown. This really is a great lighter citrus fragrance for the summer months, but the oakmoss makes it also surprisingly good for wear in cold weather. Projection for me is soft...its not a room-filler by any means, but more an understated sensual scent for those who come close. Longevity is 6-8 hours for me.

Good reviews here from alfarom and Grottola. Technically an aromatic fougere with some oakmoss in it. The focus is on the fresh herbs and aromatics, not the base (barbershop, lavender, oakmoss, etc). I do not find it as dry and bitter as Grottola, more fresh actually, but definately restrained and mannered as alfarom says. One note stands out, something that reminds me of fennel, but without the "licorice". Overall: Think a mannered blend of spanish herbs, with a few dashes of lemon on top, and a quiet base that adds longevity without messing with the aromas. In the H&R genealogy Lph sits right between Paco Rabanne and Azzaro, in the center of aromatic fougeres. Different from both, though, and worthy of buying if you like that genre. 7/10

An excellent lemon-centred scent. This is in the vicinity of YSL Pour Homme (discontinued) and Capucci Pour Homme (available cheap; unsure how the latest iteration compares to older versions). The YSL adds wood and spice and is dirtier. The Capucci also some spice and feint tobacco/leather in the drydown. The Loewe is brighter and cleaner. If you like summer holidays in the Mediterranean and white linen shirts, and you don't feel like hunting down vintages, choose this. You won't regret it.

Old fashioned, barbershop, masculine, and just enough citrus and vetiver to make it relevant with the modern fragrance world. Longevity and projection is great. If you spray it on a jacket, good luck, I hope you like the new scent of your jacket. This is a worthy addition to a collection. I would buy a bottle, but I feel it needs a strong fir/pine component to really satisfy my tastes. Still a very good cologne and a very strong performer.

I can’t believe how strongly it evokes YSL’s Pour Homme. I thought it was the same thing. Glad to find more members think so too. Somewhat bitter in the beginning, certainly equally classy and radiant. I’ve got a mini vintage one I accidentally came across among other little treasures visiting a flea market near my house. Had no idea it existed. Wonder what the current formulation is like.

Sprayed on wrist and been walking around. It has that soapy odour but it's not overwhelming in the dry down, the lavender blends into the faint woods. The amber is like a cradle to the rest of notes, just rocking them slowly back and forth. It smells like a luxury soap that I would find in a giftbox in my mum's room but brighter.

@gypsyparfumista....I just dont see any under 25's enjoying this.the initial blast of lavender is sure enough to irritate a few noses.You have to have enjoyed 80's fragrances to make sense of this.so please forgive them

Call me crazy, but this is the lighter, brighter version of Salvador Dali Pour Homme. Except for tangerine, all of the listed notes are in SDPH. Dali is for vampires at night. This one, however, is great for daybreak.

I have the old bottle . Give it an hour to dry. This is so nice..

A sweet scent for summer evenings

Not a fan of this one. It reminds me some of Encre Noir after the opening goes away. Someone said Terre D’Hermes and I agree. I don’t like the opening as it is too sharp and the dry down is ok. Glad I only got a sample from Fragrancenet.

Don’t be fooled. The opening is classic fougère, like Essenza or Zino, but within the oriental framework, it offers some candy note that disappears along with everything else after a while.

Opens up harsh with lemon, basil and a liquorish accord. Not my favorite opening to say the least. The mid and dry-down are better. The scent is little dated IMO. However, I still like it.

Oof, the opening is really harsh. I got a sample of this because Aramis Tuscany is my current signature scent and I'm doing that thing where rather than just be happy with the fragrance you love, you start looking for things that are similar. I can see how Loewe Pour Homme would be put in the same genre as Tuscany, but even after you get past the opening (which is unpleasantly bitter and sour), the dry down retains some of that astringency, just in a more herbal variety - whereas Tuscany makes me think of a sunny field of dry grass, Loewe PH makes me think of a kitchen seasoning cupboard. Not for me, and I'll happily stick with Tuscany.
