Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin Eau de Parfum Intense

This smells like the original Au Masculin, but stripped of its sweetness and gourmand quality. The top notes of both fragrances smell very similar, but where Au Masculin slowly transitions into a sweet, powdery, vanillic fragrance, Intense seems to stay the same from top to bottom. It's almost pure black licorice/anise (not too strong, not too light), with a bit of myrrh, iris, and wood. The iris has no lipstick quality to it, and the wood, supposedly oud, doesn't really resemble oud at all. These notes do smell nice, however. Overall, this is a very nice fragrance by Annick Menardo. If you didn't mind the licorice/anise in Au Masculin but found the vanilla, tonka, and praline to be too sweet and cloying, give this one a try. I think it fits the bill for fall and winter perfectly. I highly recommend that anyone who is interested in this grab a bottle before they are all gone. Lolita Lempicka lost their license/distributor and is no longer producing their men's fragrance line. Once these are gone, they may be gone forever.

Uh....Masculine? is what I think they meant to call this one. A beautiful fragrance. Not overtly "masculine" at all. Anise and iris are a fantastic combination, done to perfection in Au Masculin. Powdery, yes, but not classic "baby powder". This is a soft, semi-gourmand scent with sweet anise as the main accord. The supporting iris lends its classy, powdery signature. A very light dose of wood/vetiver keep it grounded and from becoming overtly feminine. The result is pure magic. I love, love, love this! As with almost all of my favorite contemporary fragrances, the performance is lacking. You need to use at least 6 sprays of this to make it noticeable, and even at that it remains modest at best. Still, if you like the aroma of anise, this is a must have. Even if you are indifferent, the anise/licorice in this is very tame and tastefully combined with the other notes. Such a great release!

Wow, what a masterpiece. Similar to the original Au Masculin but less sweet, making it a more refined and mature scent. Anise from the initial spray but it is not overwhelming. It quickly settles powdery on the dry down. I feel sillage/projection is not that strong with this fragrance as it settles quickly to a skin scent. Longevity is great though, I can still smell this on my clothes 12+ hours later. Overall, a great fragrance and I would recommend this to anyone who likes the original. A shame this was discontinued, it is getting harder and more expensive to source. Ratings: Sillage: 6/10 Longevity: 9/10 Scent : 9/10

What a pleasant surprise! I did not know what to expect when I blind bought this one because the notes didn't make a lot of sense as a flanker of the original (iris and oud!?). Somehow the genius that goes by the name of Annick Mennardo managed to give it a more grownup and refined scent while keeping it absolutely clear it is an Au Masculin. Projection on me is quite good, I'd say it's on par with the Midnight flanker and longevity is the best of them all on my skin , I'm getting 10+ hours in most wearings. Mrs Mennardo polished the formula and gave us the best from the line, I highly recommend it.

I found this for a great price new in box on eBay, and bought it thinking it was the original Au Masculin. Rookie error. Anyway, if anything, this one is even better. I agree with previous reviewers that this doesn't have the intense sweetness of the original - it's a more mature fragrance that leans masculine where the original is more androgynous. The star anise and amber really shine, and there's still a hint of that rich vanilla that drew me to the older version. The perfect cold weather fragrance - it's cosy, playful and intoxicating

This was my first fragrance, I researched notes I liked and blind bought it off ebay as it was reasonable enough that I could save up for it during my summer job (I was in college). I love the iris with the anise so much. My ex-boyfriend "borrowed" this and broke the bottle, spilling all of it. I am devastated that it is discontinued and now way out of my price range. I've tried to make a dupe myself but I'm no perfumer. I keep buying samples of other anise frags but I have yet to find anything like it :(

@DrNDJas review below is pretty much spot on. This is an awesome fragrance that is somewhat unisex. What I find most interesting is that I HATE the taste of black licorice, however I find this scent to be amazing..I never would have imagined enjoying Anise in a fragrance as a main note, but this proved me wrong.. So for those who are afraid of that licorice/anise note, maybe give this a try!

Charming. Strong but not loud. Lasts long without getting bored. AMEdP has resemblance to the original AM by the licorice note, the main difference here is AMEdP hasn't got those gourmanish note of praline, tonka and vanilla. Nevertheless it gives pleasant feeling to wearer. Personally I prefer this new creation of Annick Menardo over the original AM. HOpe it will not be discontinued soon

A smoother, deeper flanker to the original Au Masculin. It's earthy, gothic, muted and seductive — resembling inky-black licorice wheels. Au Masculin Intense also inspires the same degree of fantasy as OG Lolita Lempicka, but darker: more Beauty and the Beast than Snow White. I imagine Hansel and Gretel escaping into the brisk, moonlit forest.

Very seductive fragrance, i love it! Dark and smooth with addictive licorice/vanilla notes. Long lasting with moderate but constant projection. Smells really good on clothes. It's discontinued, I'm lucky to have almost a full bottle and another sealed bu bottle. It's in my top liked fragrances i have, and i wish it wasn't discontinued.

I received this one in my mail today. I must say it has a designer / niche vibe to my nose. The ingredients are really great quality. You start off with a exempliary anise whiff, but it settles quite smooth after the initial 5 minutes. A real must have, but I've heard it's discontinued or something?

It smells really like Aoud Greedy by Montale..... Similar but better !!!!

I loved the original and it’s all time favorite of mine and I have to say I thoroughly enjoy the Intense version as well ! However, I do prefer the OG but the Intense is still great and if you liked the OG but thought it was too sweet I’d definitely say give this a shot as it’s more airy while at the same time being darker. On its own this scent is a fresh,powdery,aromatic scent that also has a dark incense type of vibe making this scent perfect for nights out on colder days. ( I get a lot of Iris and Anise mostly from this scent) Performance on this is solid ! It lasts 6-10 hours but only projects above average. In all honesty the OG is more intense in terms of performance. I think Lolita Lempicka Night would have been a more appropriate name as the OG lasts 12-24 hrs and projects way better. Overall rating— 8 out of 10 ! Damn good scent but I still strongly prefer the OG Sidenote— I could see this going great with a leather jacket for some reason

I don't find too much difference between this and the older Eau de Minuit. Smells the same to my nose, but the performance is even less:( The perfect weather when you can wear is about 10 celcius after the rain, little sunshine, with jeans and leather jacket. I like the smell as always, but I need more projection.

It is a perfume and it is french!!! Plastic bottle and fast food societies will not understand...

I'm not sure if any posts about longevity or sillage appear to be right. It is a concerning trend as it seems the old classics such as YSL Kouros which in the 1980s heyday were truly powerful and lasted a very long time, no longer do. I am aware of the changes since the 80s in terms of reformulations and gratefully, animals are no longer allowed to be used such as glands from civet cats for fixatives. However, is this the best these expensive bottles of liquid can be? This Intense version is not strong, certainly doesn't last more than 90 minutes with a lot used and doesn't carry particularly well. It's certainly not the bomb it has been described as being. Which leads me onto another area of concern. How many interested parties are representing their design house or company views? Because of the discrepancies (and yes there are some differences in characteristics between users) but not the differences seen in many reviews. I have noticed a true drop in standards right across the board with scents and certainly can't tell the difference between EDT or eau de parfum. There should be. Lempicka is another example and it's disappointing in its performance. The smell is lovely but that's about it. rather than spend more money on the packaging, do something with the juice inside please.

My favorite Lolita Lempicka. The anise note is a fantastic substitution for the licorice. Au Masculin Eau de Parfum Intense reminds me of the smell of ouzo or sambuca, with an added vetiver freshness at the beginning. Myrrh comes through on the drydown, and myrrh is a note I can always enjoy. But it's the oud + iris combination that makes this a masterpiece. It's a beautiful, rich, bittersweet oud balanced just so by the powdery iris. The oud/iris combination takes a while to appear, but once it does it's solid. The drydown has a lovely clean woody soap smell, and I mean soap smell as a sincere compliment. Mint is not listed, but I almost detect something herbal like mint. While this is much more intense than the original Au Masculin, it's not intense the way sweet spicy gourmands tend to be "intense" these days. In other words, intense does not mean overpowering. If this scent were a color it would be deep forest green. Overall, Au Masculin Intense gives the effect of a medieval elixir bottled according to a closely guarded secret recipe, haunting, restorative, deep. Sir Percivale's overprotective mother had this recipe; Percivale carried a vial of it on his quest. (Just my imagination here)

This is a fascinating men's fragrance. I still have my full bottle, dented with just a couple of test sprays but without a box. This is one of the staples in my collection. To my nose, this scent profile is unique. It is a gourmandy sweet fragrance with star anise as the more prominent note, or maybe licorice though it was not listed on the notes, its aroma is similar to star anise. The oud is present but well blended, soft and subtle in the background like a friendly ghost. Probably it is the reason why I am picking this vibe reminiscent of 24 Gold. Since I have acquired some additions, I was about to move this to the back burner when I found out it's hard to find nowadays - back to the frontline. If you love the fragrance of star anise or licorice, then you might want to check this out. Good quality scent profile, not generic and has a decent performance and longevity. I would give this wonderful juice a 9/10 “Let's spread the scents of peace and kindness. Ok, so it is yet another Intense version of a pre-existing fragrance to include iris in the composition...the other being the L'Intense version of La Nuit De L'Homme announced last week. I think there is a lot of DH/DHI/DHP inspiration at play these days. Nevertheless, I am interested in this new version of what is a very good EDT, if you have Annick Mennardo's original creation. It seems here that the star anise could add some masculine freshness beyond what was the really quite sweet licorice of the original....while still staying in the same ballpark. Myrrh will also add some exotic richness. La Nuit De L'Homme L'Intense....Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin Eau de Parfum Intense....Take to your corners and come out fighting. I look forward to the battle between these two.

Not a redundant purchase if you own the original EDT. The anise is much more prominent in the opening and persists. This effect lends itself to be a much more masculine fragrance. The EDT was more whimsical and androgynous because the sweet powdery Le Male type base really sang in harmony with the licorice note from the onset until it faded. The intense EDP does away with that, and the pungency of that licorice creates a warmth and fuzzy vetiver quality. I draw parallels between this and Vetiver Tonka from Hermes. Beautiful scent, both this and the EDT are worthy of dates on cold Fall nights and outdoor events. Halloween? Absolutely, but this is screaming for a more cemented place in your chilly weather rotation. Pick this up while you can!

Here we have another fabulous addition to the long list of Annick Menardo fragrances. To my nose the star of this show is in fact myrrh and later the veitver. Yes the original Au Masculin is very much a part of this show, however the licorice is tamed down and almost has a cherry vibe interacting with the oud note. The iris only seems to add a powdery vibe to entire concoction. This fragrance reminds me a bit like vintage M7 and Jil Sander - Sander Man 2007 (black bottle). It is also very similar to Midnight in Paris Van Cleef & Arpels EDP. Overall it smells very very good. I can't say I like it any better than the first formulation of Au Masculin (from launch until around 2009?) But I certainly like it just as much. 8.25/10

The universe and its laws can be quite funny sometimes. Just when I had lost any hope of finding the last flanker of Au Masculin that I was missing, I somehow found the Eau de Parfum Intense waiting for me! What a surprise! Well, if you are familiar with the original Au Masculin you already know the whole story. All flankers are connected to it and share notes. Eau de Parfum Intense is closer to Eau de Minuit. Not that many differences here. It is exactly what's it supposed to be: an eau de parfum version for the original eau de toilette. It is denser, heavier... it lasts longer... It is truly sad that Lolita Lempicka decided to cut down the magic of its original men's fragrance and its flankers.

For my money, the best star anise/black licorice scent on the market. Which happens to be an aphrodisiac (star anise/black licorice), especially for women. This is Halloween in a bottle. Completely unisex, maybe leaning a bit more masculine. I pull this one out during the fall and make it a point to wear it as much as possible in the month of October. It has a sort of gothic vibe about it. 85-90% black licorice here, that manages to keep up throughout the duration. A little sweet and a little dark, with slight hints of resins and woods underneath. Almost impossible to find nowadays, so grab a bottle immediately if you see it available.

I don't know.. People say this doesn't resemble a Edp. I think it is a powerhouse! This is my first time ever smelling any version of au masculin and it's nothing like I had imagined. To me it's a darker and mature fragrance begging to be worn on cooler days. Though I cannot wait to try it this summer... Just because I get down like that. I find it warm and somewhat seductive. Theres a few others out there that smell similar in the drydown but I'm very happy paying $40 for this. A great one to have in any collection. I really would find this alluring and bery intoxicating on a woman. I'm gonna go find one to spray down.

I expected an intense perfume, but it is very light, (where do they get the 'eau de parfum intense' from?) Frankly, I didn't like it very much, simply because I could hardly appreciate it, even being generous with sprays. It smells of star anise with myrrh, and it has a dry cardamom-like smell that I didn't like at all. This is the second Lolita Lempicka men's perfume that I try and I am disappointed again.

a store sent this to me by mistake. Too lazy to sent it back, now i'm stuck with male perfume. In my female nose and skin, I can smell woodsy and something that I can find in medicinal candy (for sore throat). It's like a fresh smell when u just have a shower. I think this is ok for male in college or male below 35 yo. edit: if anyone know what should I do/mix to make it more feminine, pls advice.

@Endymion - I don't think it's just a rename. In Au Masculin Eau de Parfum Intense the licorice is gone, but the iris note is here ;) I suppose it will be similar to Lolita Lempicka Illusions Noires in some way, but at the same time will deliver something new, something different and interesting. To me, this is an very tempting flanker and I will get it, if a have a chance.

I like this scent, but all I get is licorice. It lasts 8+ hours on my skin and that is way to long. I've gotten plenty of compliments and for the price it's definitely worth trying. I only wear this occasionally because I can't tolerate the smell for over 8 hours. It's a scent that is unique and if you like black licorice, you'll love this.

This is the bomb! I spray it (just two spritzes!) in the morning, go to work, swim in the afternoon, take a shower, back to work, and yet, I can still smell it on my skin ‘round midnight! ;) If you love the original EdT version but want it to last the whole day through, then this is for you! So happy I finally got it!

I'm surprised they didn't do a better job trying to differentiate it from previous editions. I think this bottle is going to confuse a lot of people. But...I'm really curious what it will smell like minus the licorice note...I guess the star anise is pretty much an analogous replacement.

Shame that this is discontinued. It's one of the nicest men's fragrances to wear on date night in the winter. Really stands out because it's so different than anything else. Licorice galore in an Au Masculin way.

@linoleum i recommend layering it with Mercedes Club Black EDP which is a light sweet neutral vanillic benzoin scent that could sweeten this up and still wouldn’t make it too heavy.

This bottle was stolen from me and it may be one of the greatest heartaches I have experienced in my lifetime. Anyone have a bottle or decant to sell?

The bottles 99% looks like Illusions Noires Au Masculin Eau de Minuit. Maybe it's just a rename?
