Phoebe

Phoebe is a name associated with the moon godess Selene (later Artemis/Diana). It means "bright" or "bright one" in ancient greek. She was actually one of the original twelve titans, children of Gaia (the earth) and Uranus (the sky). She married her brother Coeus and she gave birth to Helios (the sun), Selene (the moon) and Eos (the dawn). She was the original light of the night, bedecked in a robe of stars. The Titans were eventually defeated by the Olympian gods and cast into Tartarus the darkest deepest pit under the earth... Phoebe is wonderful! She begins bright green and spicy with warm blossoms and a beautiful aromatic wave. The blend of notes in the opening is floral but clean, and very invigorating with the juniper and petitgrain sur fleur, and rosewood compliments the other notes with a soapy (but not sharp) freshness. Amazing! As the heart opens more fully and it begins to dry, a heady thick chorus of flowers weaves its spell with delightful orange blossoms and a lovely jasmine. The roses add some sensuality and an air of mystery. The more this dries, the more I adore it! It IS flowery but not exactly feminine, a guy could SO wear this! As with all scents of this house it is up to the wearer to decide what to wear and they do not insult your intellegence with "for him" and "for her" labels. *smiles* Upon drying down completely, Queen Osmanthus appears in all her majesty. Surrounded by her court of flowery ladies and her advisors. The finish on this is just scrumptuous, Flowery resins, incensy amber and a robe of vanillic richness upon her, she is crowned with ambrette seeds and all of it blends to become something very close to the perfect prefume, actually! I like flowers with a hint of spice, dark rich flowers preferably; but anything with a smoky or incensy drydown sends me! This has me and I hope it never lets me go... Sillage: great Longevity: amazing Overall: 4.75/5 Only the second EDP from Lords Jester, Phoebe is a stunner! This perfume has something I adore...flowers rich and heavy in the base and upon looking back at the notelist; I realised it is, on every level, an homage to the lovely osmanthus flower. Each and every note defines her beauty and each subsequent level of its development adds to her charms rather than distracting from it. Even the basenotes are flower based or just sweet enough to enhance her sultry creamy elegance. YOU GO, ADAM!!

EDIT 3/9/2011: On further thought and upon re-reading my review during the Give Away for Lord's Jester; I realised that I was (in fact) wrong about the mythological origin of Phoebe... She was a titaness and the original light of the Night and she did marry Coeus (her brother); however, she was the mother of Asteria (who married Perses *a minor sea god* to have Hecate *ancient goddess of dark magicks*) and Leto *the mother by Zeus of Apollo and Artemis*... The sun (Helios), the moon (Selene) and the dawn (Eos) were in fact her nephew and nieces; as they were the children of Hyperion (original original sun god) and Thea "radiance", both titans themselves... Sorry for any confusion! :)

bellissimo accordo erbaceo e ambrato, che ricorda ambre sultan di SL, ma che in più è arricchito da timide note floreali che circondano l'ottimo fondo caldo. notevolissimo, persistente per essere un profumo senza fissativi, difficile da trovare. peccato!
