Vintage Collection Vetiver

After sampling this fragrance 3 times, I finally decided to purchase a bottle. It’s a totally different take on vetiver than I know from other brands, but I love it. At first it’s a bit harsh, but nice ‘green’ smell and it getting more warm after an hour. The fact that I kept sniffing my wrist was a sign for me that the perfume is interesting. After the perfume is settled it’s only getting better. I’m getting that specific Villoresi earthy touch that I love. Longevity is excellent. At first I was a bit hesitant to wear it at the office, as it’s an unusual fragrance, but I didn’t get complaints. Also very suitable for the evening/night.

Vetiver is what it says on the tin - a beautiful example of a vetiver-dominant scent. Woody, aromatic and spicy, it is warm and full-bodied throughout, centred around a high-quality vetiver note. The vetiver here is initially sour, even slightly pissy, but it mellows after a little while, becoming more grassy, woody and earthy, reminiscent of vintage greats like Guerlain Vétiver. There is a lot going on here, but the vetiver is always the focal point, keeping everything on track. Vetiver opens with the aforementioned astringent vetiver - I didn't like it at first sniff, but after minutes it becomes something compelling. The citrus notes add tartness and there is a fresh green undertone that brings out the earthy, green side of the vetiver. I get a fleeting lavender note, aromatic and bright, bringing this scent to barbershop territory. After the opening subsides somewhat, a crayon-like accord emerges, likely thanks to the tonka bean in the base alongside woody notes. Soft spices add warmth. I get nutmeg in particular. A herbal accord keeps things aromatic, marrying nicely with the spices as well as enhancing the greenness of the vetiver note. The crayon accord remains, something I've come across a handful of times in perfume, notably in Tom Ford Oud Wood. It evokes childhood memories for me, and as a result, I have a soft spot for perfumes that feature this. The drydown is dry and earthy, increasingly woody with dusty spices remaining. The patchouli adds earthiness, the perfect complement to the vetiver note here. The tonka-led crayon accord keeps things smooth and rounded until final fade, a nice counterpoint to the dryness. It fades to a whisper of tonka, with some earthiness remaining until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. It is masculine-leaning in my opinion. A dry yet aromatic take on a vetiver scent, Vetiver is a fresh barbershop scent that is pleasant throughout, made with high-quality ingredients and beautifully put-together. It is an easy everyday scent, transeasonal and elegant. Another great scent from Lorenzo Villoresi's Vintage Collection - I just hope that their more recent Vetiver is as good. 4/5.

For the first time I would say that a scent really does smell partly like an Indian curry and partly like a sweatshop. That's how Vetiver started on me. Lots of aromatic spices, herbs and the glacial galbanum making up a mixture that is a combination of- bitter, green, invigorating, metallic and the....cumin with its sweaty/BO effect that has always been so appealing to me. A whole lot of notes that are potent and competitive beings and Vetiver could have been a jarring disaster but it's not. Far from it. Everything blends beautifully and all the notes fall into place like a choreographed dance, smooth and seamless. It gets rather dry and dusty in the later stage and befits its name Vetiver better than the spices and galbanum did at the beginning but the green bitterness and the spices remain and contribute to the arid climate that makes Vetiver smell like it were part of an Old Western movie. Vetiver is softer than I like my scents to be, I have to sniff myself closely to detect the scent trail but it does have a decent longevity.

An amazing, wolfishly smoky opening for this spicy vetiver eau de toilette — I thought I'd found my holy grail. The patchouli note is lovely when it comes through. This is a bold, sophisticated statement, worthy of being someone's signature scent. It's a humid summer right now and I'm not 100% convinced by the drydown which goes dusty-spicy with nutmeg on my skin while the vetiver tilts into classic earthy-rootiness, on the edge of acidity, but not going over into it. If only that smokiness held on a little longer. Still this is an interesting perfume for vetiver-lovers. I'm going to give it a few more tries to test it out.

Got a sample of Vetiver and had to try it since I love vetiver fragrances. Unfortunately turned out to be one of my least favorite. At first whiff, it opens up with a scent of dill pickle and wet cement. Soon after it turns into celery leaves wrapped in dry vetiver, finally settling down into a not completely offensive BO (cumin)

It opens with a vetiver smothered by citrus and bitter oranges. As it evolves I get sparkling rosewood, cumin, lavender, in a kind of bitter and sour green. Vintage vetiver, surrounded by aromatic herbs, fresh citrus, slightly darkened by animalic wood. Just looking at the notes can I think of the celery leaf. Here, it's all well mixed and fluid. The finish is lighter, airy, expansive, yet still masculine and mature. Dusty barber shop. Vintage vetiver achieves the goal with a natural balance, apparently simple and effective. For the honest, mature man, a lover of fresh shaves and bitter citrus fruits.
