Pur Ambre

WOW! That's all I can say. This is the only review I've left for the $18,000 worth of fragrances I have. Yes, Pur Ambre is this good. I spent $1,710 on a bottle of this just yesterday, and I wasn't sure if I would regret it since it was a blind buy, because the LV store didn't have any samples. But when I got home and sprayed it on, all concerns were gone, it was seriously the best smell my nose has ever experienced. I know many people are interested in buying this but they can't try it since most stores don't have samples, so I will try my best to describe how it smells like to you. The fragrance it instantly reminded me of in the opening was Fantasmagory by the same brand, Louis Vuitton. A rich, slightly musky, uplifting and bright vanilla, which IMO is most suitable for the Spring and Summer, but can definitely be worn for the fall and winter. Then it had some of the Baccarat Rouge 540 sweetness, but the sweetness is toned down. Just think of this as a rich, slightly musky, slightly nutty, bright and uplifting vanilla that smells so expensive. Performance of this is room-filling, and lasts over 24 hours, no joke. If you're getting less performance then I'm getting, I'm heavily convinced that you are nose blind. This has became my signature scent, since this fragrance could be worn for most occasions, for example, school, work, date nights, and other special occasions, just not the gym, at least for my opinion. On my second 10ml decant of this and just purchased a full bottle. Clearly with something this pricy it’s best to make sure you need it in your permanent rotation before pulling the trigger. For me this scent is perfection. I leverage it as it was intended, for layering. It melds itself into just about any scent with a musky base and frames it with luxurious ambergris undertones, transforming it to the next level and essentially elevating it into a masterpiece. Some favorite layering combinations include 2019 and earlier bottles of Aventus (my current favorite is 17W11), Imagination, Neroli Sauvage.. and what makes this fragrance so exciting is I’ve only scratched the surface with this experimentation.

This could be worn on its own for sure as just a your skin but better enhancer but I feel this would work best with layering with other Louis Vuitton fragrances. As someone who has smelt a lot of Ambergris/Ambroxan dominant fragrances this is by far the best one I have yet to try so far.. The quality and construction is like no other.. The longevity is phenomenal and this projects just enough to get your attention occasionally. I wish I had a bottle to layer with my other Louis Vuitton fragrances but due to the high price and limited availability in the United States that makes it a harder fragrance to come by.

Pur Ambre by Louis Vuitton really blew me away! It's this rich, deep amber scent that's somehow both classic and totally new. Jacques Cavallier nailed it with a mix of natural ambergris and Ambroxan that just draws you in. It's super intense, so a little goes a long way, and it has this cool layering vibe that makes it feel really personal. Every time I wear it, I discover something new about it – it's like the ultimate mystery that keeps on giving. Definitely a game-changer in my fragrance lineup!

Pur ambre presents concoction between natural ambergris and molecule ambroxan which represents synthetic smell of ambergris. Multifaceted for only 2 notes, in the drydown it gives off a BR540 extrait vibe, medicinal, sweet and musky. Its a subtle scent that will linger on your skin and leave a strong trail. Also some people will experience anosmia too and wont be able to detect ambroxan. Its really nice but too expensive for what its offering.

This is absolutely stunning. It is the final boss of fresh, clean scents. It feels like a personalized stamp or signature. You can add this on top of most perfumes and it would enhance it uniquely. You can turn it into your own ‘Guerlinade’. I believe the price is by design, because this smells like what you picture refinement, elegance, and quiet confidence to be. It doesn’t get more stealth than this.

Price aside, this is a wonderful mineralic, aquatic, diffusive, clean and elegant ambergris. In the first hour I don’t smell much, but once the ambergris/ambrox « attaches » and begins to radiate, it’s pretty intoxicating. I’m reading a lot of comments by people who don’t seem to understand the behavior of the ingredients.

Very close to the new release Amber Levant - uses the exact same salty amber accord that this is 100% of this fragrance - it’s basically 50% of Ambre Levant. Both superb fragrances.

This one is beyond perfection — it’s the best amber I’ve smelled in my entire life so far. Sadly, it’s too expensive.

An elegant and luxuriously priced layering tool. An "ambergris soliflore" if you will. If you've ever smelled pure ambergris, or an ambergris tincture, then you will find nuances of this in Pur Ambre. You can even find delicate hints of funk. Added to the mix is a well-behaved dose of ambroxan, which is there to give texture and staying-power. It does so very well, Jacques Cavallier knows what he's doing. The overall smell is somewhere between velvety-salty, musky with woody nuances and a hint of funk. Personally, too expensive for what it is, but unquestionably nice. Edit: the test strip that has been laying in my room is still projecting after two days. It has a certain musky aura, most likely coming from ambrette seeds, a material that can be found throughout the LV line.

It's a warm, enveloping scent that leaves me amazed. The beauty of ambergris (natural) and ambroxan (synthetic) in one bottle—well, I certainly got the best of both worlds. I didn't get the funkiness, but I could detect salty and musky hints, which was lovely. The price point is too high, but the performance is beyond outstanding. I went to the store, brought a test strip home, and left it on my desk. For days, my room was filled with Pur Ambre-infused air. A gentle beast, I should say.

Smells absolutely devine on the skin. It is a silky, smooth, warm scent & would be great as a layering scent or by itself. Out of this and Pur Santal, I recommend this one way more. Give it a try!

Anyone got a bottle of this for sale in the States?

Smelled this in the store, and was continiously convinced to purchase this scent. Initially, this was a very attractive and very alluring scent considering its not a heavy oud. I typically prefer oud fragrances that do not come off as strong so this was perfect. However, this did not last long on paper or on skin whatsoever for me, sales assistant said that this would be a fragrance that you wouldn't get nose blinded by, additionally to the insane price point, I was instantly turned off by this scent. For me its wayyyy too expensive and a very weak performer so I would not consider this as a purchase. Was told that this was great for layering though, if you can consider a 1000 buck fragrance as a layering scent.

DAMAN: Can you tell us the story behind your latest creations for Louis Vuitton, namely Pur Ambre and Pur Santal? Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud: The story started with Pur Oud three years ago. I wanted to offer to our clients, especially the perfume lovers, the possibility to have Louis Vuitton’s oud. It’s a very rare and exceptional material. I also wanted to offer the experience of perfume layering like Middle Easterners do, which is the practice of mixing perfumes together and applying personal oud as the final touch. We were very successful in the past three years and that’s why I wanted to continue the history by first creating Pur Ambre, which is the ambergris note that I use for all Louis Vuitton fragrances. It’s a combination of two materials: ambroxan and the natural ambergris. The latter is a material we collected on the beaches in New Caledonia, India and Scotland. The scent of this fantastic material is very sensual, slightly animalic, deep and mysterious. Pur Santal follows the same idea and the same process. Sandalwood is one of the most ancient ingredients used for perfumes, as well as for religious rites and many other occasions. It has a pure, creamy and woody note, which creates sophistication in fragrances and brings lots of volume without being overpowering or too aggressive. I use natural sandalwood oil from Sri Lanka and I add some ingredients around it in order to reveal the creaminess of this wood. And that’s exactly the sandalwood that I use for Louis Vuitton perfumes. These two creations are also amazing because they’re highly concentrated. I want to break the rules by offering them at maximum concentration, and it works. DA: Can you elaborate further on what makes ambergris and sandalwood so precious? JCB: Ambergris is a universal, central material appreciated all over the world. It represents sensuality, sexuality or something incredibly strong that comes from us. The scent is very complete and enveloping with lots of facets. That’s why it’s a star among ingredients. At Louis Vuitton, for example, we have Imagination or L’Immensité for men, where ambergris creates something different that redefines sensuality in the 21st century. As for sandalwood, it’s been precious since a thousand years ago. It exudes sophistication and was once a very expensive material, but in the first half of the 20th century, sandalwood was everywhere and in every fragrance. There is creaminess in its woodiness. It’s not aggressive nor acidic, which is quite exceptional. This character comes naturally, and that’s why it is appreciated by everyone. DA: Can you recommend some pairings for these fragrances along with other creations from Louis Vuitton? JCB: A combination between Pur Ambre with Imagination, L’Immensité or Météore is fantastic. Combining Pur Ambre, Pur Santal and Météore altogether also results in an amazing scent. For Pur Santal specifically, you can go with Heures d’Absence, which is 100-percent floral to get something delicious. If you want to try the cologne, Pacific Chill and Pur Ambre will make something fresh, yet more sensual. I’m still experimenting, but what I personally love the most is to have Pur Ambre with some sprays of Pur Santal.

1.4K dollars is what this fragrance costs. According to LV the “reason” they are charging this much is because of the ingredients. Yes there’s actual ambergris in this. But the thing is I feel they probably have the smallest dose of real ambergris, mixed it with other similar properties that smell similar to ambergris and then just slapped on a 1.4K price tag on it. I genuinely think if you are not earning atleast 200k plus dollars a year or something along those lines, don’t even entertain the idea of buying it. LV priced this at a price to see who’s dumb enough to pay that much for a bottle of smelly water....

I tried pur ambre both on paper and skin. It's clean, mineralic, salty & comforting. It's a great olfactory experience. You should try this when you have nothing on you, and when there is no other scents nearby. Although I think it's great to be able to smell natural ambergis. It's overkill & way too expensive to be used as it's or as layering fragarance. I think this belongs more to collector items category. Maybe LVs loyalist going to downvote me to oblivion, but you can get similar experience with Juliette has a gun, not a perfume.

I own over 200 perfumes and I must say this is the one. Like THE one! I was graciously allowed to test a small decant of this fragrance and I wish I hadn’t. It’s almost impossible to get your hands on if in the US. If someone is reading this and ca get me a bottle or sell me their bottle or bring me one back...please please pleassseeee message me! This is a masterpiece even in its pure simplicity.

Finally Tried it SUPER SIMPLISTIC, Extreme Minamilasim Ambroxan with Hedione don't smell too much like BR540 just shares The Ambroxan Hedione over dose. Might be faint and weak to so many users , you must try alone to be able to smell it. Cheers

@lmwimsatt Amber or Ambre = Ambergris Amber accord = color of amber, this is a fantasy accord for the the smell of the color amber. In its simplest form its vanilla and labdanum absolute. Amber Woods is a different thing all together.

I’ve seen a formula for this and it’s 4 ingredients—basically half of Baccarat Rouge 540’s backbone with some real ambergris thrown in. I’m sure it smells nice enough but I’d want a little more for my $1,000

Save your money and get Molecule 02 for essentially the same experience. If you really want the bottle then you can get a fake on ebay for 150$ and fill it with Molecule 02 and still save over $1000.

Most similar to Hermes Santal Massoia - has some milky-woody, musky scent with a touch of marine and salty nuances. Also reminiscent to Baccarat Rouge drydown.

Ok just because the word ambergris has the word amber in it, doesn't mean that sperm whale excrement actually smell like literal tree sap. The title is so camp
