Galaad

For everyone who thinks the scent is too weak: they made it more concentrated in the beginning of 2014. I have to say I'm happy I didn't buy it right away when I fell in love with it, I get to enjoy the stronger version now :0)I tried a lot of perfume this year, hoping to find another Galaad, but I haven't found anything quite as good. If you enjoy woody, leathery, balsamic, smokey and amberish, THIS IS IT! There is even a note in it that reminds me of the way the air smells very early at dawn. Of course you need to try it on your skin first, it is an expensive perfume. Blind buying would not be wise in this case. As for me, love, love this perfume and heartily recommend it!

My favourite niche perfumery is closing down :'( Galaad was the first perfume I bought there and I still love it to bits, it's pure class and pure enchantment. So I bought myself an extra bottle, the last one in the store. And I was rewarded with the tester as well, lucky me! I still don't understand the complaints about limited staying power, I sprayed on my wrist this morning and the magic potion is still going strong after 8 hours. This is my second review, I'm very dedicated to break a lance for this knight of the holy grail of scents. There's still nothing quite like it out there and it will remain my most loved Lubin. Try it yourselves and be amazed...

For me Galaad is a fresh spicy and Oriental Woody perfume with a Myrhh,Cardamom vibe. The notes in the composition are all so soft, not sharp at all. I love the smell of Myrhh,Cardamom and it's the most prominent note in this fragrance. I suggest it for fall,winter. I suppose it is a day and night perfume. certainly this is an unisex fragrance.it's a bit linear. Sillage and staying power is weak.. interesting,nice and unique perfume.

Galaad by Lubin Ancient ingredients of perfumary mixed together into a classy, gorgeous scent. A little leather, little naughty and opulently refined. This is gorgeous with my chemistry. It isnt going to hit you over the head with its obviousness or overt raunch like a Salome, but this is sophisticated sexy. A signature scent and love. A++. An ancient blessing in a bottle. An excellent Oriental Wood fragrance.

Imagine a M7-esque, medicinal oud, with a fougere twist and sweetness from honey! It is really good and underrated. Its for cold weather, cause it has a dark feel, yet its very sophisticated and not in your face at all. Its almost made to feel like a man in a suit who smokes the finest cuban cigars.

What an intriguing scent! Definitely smells of summertime nights, walking through a flower and herb garden. Very fragrant, aromatic and just a hint of sweet floral. Beautiful!

If you are a guy who believes in god and goes to church on a regular basis, this might be your signature scent. Galaad gives me exactly those vibes.

Nice and complex scent, love the spice and woody accords. The deep woody dry down last very long on my skin.

Honestly, I have no idea why it is listed as unisex perfume, because for me it is as masculine scent as it goes. Both on my skin and sprayed on paper. Don't want to repeat here what others told before me, as I'm mostly agree with all that. Just want to clarify that when we talk here about Galaad relatively poor longevity and projection performance we mean it as for niche perfume poor, not regular designer perfume poor. On my skin it still lasts 5-6 hours with moderate, but noticeable within arm reach projection, and after that 3-4 hours more as skin scent. For me it has 3 stages: opening about 10-15 min beautiful and strong, but not too strong; first 1.5-2 hours very similar to opening scent, but less sweet and even more masculine, but also even more well tempered. I love first 2 stages. After that it comes into significantly different drydown stage, and, although I don't dislike it, I don't care much about it either.

Very, very heavy on the cypriol, cardamom and myrrh - so much so that these almost-bitter notes really dominate the first burst. For me the initial 5 mins or so are pretty challenging - it's almost unfriendly, so sharply chemical that it's unpleasantly close to bug spray for a little while. Then things calm down and the sweeter, brighter, more rounded picture emerges - a shimmering desert oriental, all desert, all gold, but with very little sweetness. The closest thing from a 'classic' perfume house I've ever smelled to Czech & Speake Frankincense and Myrrh (which I'd still prefer to Galaad by a whisper). Do try it if you want something heavily spicy, but which doesn't cloy. Totally unisex, imho. Sillage medium, but oddly for something so laden with aromatics, the longevity is really not great - I find it's gone within 4hrs.

Upon application I got the freshest wet, herbal top notes of cypress and rosemary then the smokey deep notes start to pile on. Cardamom, Charred wood and smokey, cypriol, Copu balm and then a sweetness of myrrh form a swirling mid-pyramid. The oud base is not at all strong or long lasting after such a heady journey through the notes, it's over far too quickly for my liking. When Galaad brings all that smoke it started to remind me a little of Profumum Fumidus but then becomes tamer and much more manageable, just as quickly as it developed. It promises so much and smells really good briefly in that opening, complex, balsamic and plain wonderful then dies down to a soft leathery drydown...shame.

Hints of M7 - the rosemary in the opening, the myrrh, and an oud note with hints of cherry, a similar smooth and balmy texture and similar medicinal qualities - although overall Galaad is softer, greener, and not as warm or enveloping as it lacks that strong vetiver presence that M7 has. Still, that's not a bad thing - it makes Galaad more versatile and easier to wear day in and day out. It's really quite a pleasant scent and I found longevity to be pretty good when sprayed on the chest, although projection is quite mild. Strongest notes are myrrh, camphoraceous rosemary, and then a well balanced earthy brown/green accord of cardamom, woods and tobacco.

Sticky but delicate resins to open with the clarifying sweetness of cypress and some soapy spiced cardamom. There is a clean fullness about the opening without being heavy. The tobacco note is very moderate, woody, aromatic and cool. The sweetness of honey remains light and thin, diffuse with delicate shades of green. There isn't much here in the way of oud except a nuance of something watery and fresh like a slice of white mushroom. This is a very nice light resin perfume, warm, clean and radiant. A little soft in performance but I think that is part of Galaad's allure.

I get a lot of the cypress, which is like that of Hermes Rocabar, though as Galaad develops it becomes sweeter than Rocabar, and ends up one of those elegant-spicy-cola scents, with tobacco and leather underneath. It's well blended and pleasant, and the oud doesn't become bitter as it can on my skin in many perfumes. However, doesn't last long on me.

Honestly where is oud smell?It still can be a classy fragrance but no way in this world of perfumes its Worth more than $50-60.Like a flash we've got some aromatic honeyd rosemary fading away and giving up space to some balmy effect together woody probably because of copahu and myrhh.And if you want to feel something else close-up your nose onto skin immediately because poor longevity along weak sillage could make it be imperceptibly.The concept is good as well the smell unfortunately.Dry down reminds me a little bit Endymion.Good news is Lubin still saved by Idole.

This is a mild and tame earthy/spicy slightly sweet scent on me. The cypriol oil gives it a slightly feminine feel and unbalances all the other masculine notes. I get very little if any oud and tobacco. The honey and cardamom play a nice supporting role. It's more about the oil and myrhh on my skin. This is my 1st time sampling it so maybe I will edit my review after a couple wearings but I am not digging this at all.

Awe sorry I forgot to mention to try a sample before its maybe some frustration because I was hoping for some masterpiece by notes used.

Received a sample, nothing special and I have others much better with this woodsy fragrance. Low longevity. I won't be buying a bottle.

The drydown is very similar to M7 after another day of testing. Thumbs down for not being original.

OK....so I just blind bought a full bottle off eBay at a fantastic price. I did it because I have taken quite a shine to Lubin for some reason.....love Idole EDT, but never actually tried anything else until now. The new trio of fragrances look amazing on paper and I thought I couldn't really go wrong..... To be honest, I wasn't blown away when I first smelled it. Sure it was nice, but not amazing. Then I wore it for the first time today and I realized I really do love this one! It's quite dark and sweet, but not heavy like I thought it would be. Kind of makes me think of some sort of dark syrup or honey on my skin. Initially, there is the smell of tobacco and smoke plus warm spices, which is beautiful, but unfortunately it fades too quickly. This is a real shame because it's the first half hour of this that is the best. This is not to say that what follows isn't enjoyable, it's certainly is, but it could have been a lot nicer if the tobacco and smoke hung around for longer.... After a while, the scent develops only slightly (not a huge progression here) into a lovely sweet, slightly medicinal, spicy and woody dry down with hints of agar wood. Oud is certainly not prominent in this fragrance. There is an oud note which is detectable, but it's not strong, and this is good news to me because I'm not a fan of heavy oud scents. So, don't look here if you are after an oud bomb! You will not find it in Galaad. Overall, this is a beautiful scent. It's dark and sweet with subtle spices and tobacco smoke in the opening, then drying down to a sweet and medicinal woody oud. The scent is never heavy or too powerful, in fact, it is a little two light if I'm honest. It lasts OK, but it settles very close after the first hour or so, which is disappointing giving how it is an EDP and costs over £100.... I don't know if I would pay full price for this or not... It smells beautiful and unique, can't think of anything similar, but the performance is disappointing. If you were very trigger happy with the sprayer then you should be OK, but the bottle would be gone before you know it! That said, I'm in love with it and I strongly recommend you at least give the new Lubin trio a try.
