Gin Fizz

Lubin Gin Fizz is a fragrance I’ve smelled before at Perfumology but of which I haven’t previously done a full review. Originally released in 1955 but then re-released in 2009, Gin Fizz is a fresh citrus burst, not too gourmand-like, and not too sweet, so it has a timeless vibe to it in that it does not pivot toward either more modern trend, though it was a forerunner of many fragrances to follow that were explicitly inspired by alcoholic beverages. Inspired by the cocktail with which it shares its name (as well as the inimitable Grace Kelly), Gin Fizz is fittingly effervescent blend featuring a generous use of aldehydes, a blend of citruses, and mix of florals (most notably, juniper), with white musk and oakmoss in the base. It triggers the classical response in me, “what’s not to like?” along the lines of a Dior Sauvage or Guerlain Shalimar, albeit with more of the play and fresh versatility of the former and a bit less of the gravitas of the latter. It’s unisex, easy to wear, versatile, and not underwhelming but can be applied liberally without penalty, and it’s one I’ll have to put some more thought into buying. Lubin’s catalogue is quite deep, and Gin Fizz should be at the top of the list for many to try. It is priced at $160/130 for 100/50ml like some of the house’s other offerings, priced well in a designer realm, under the $2/ml mark at the 100ml bottle size. Overall, it’s an outstanding fragrance that feels classic but still relevant and invigorating, all the same, with all the grace of Grace and a fun aldehydic concoction of a cocktail. 8 out of 10

This isn't a light or citrus scent to me at all. It is very long-lasting on me and thoroughly complex. On my skin, the only part of it that is "fresh" and"citrus" are the top notes. This fades and I am left with a boozy yet effervescent, fun-loving yet deep, concoction of notes that I can wear year-round. With the exception of Molecule 01, this is the only scent in my collection that I can wear all year round. ..and even though I wear it every season, it smells different in the summer than in the winter. It's a bit of a chameleon. In the summer, it stays fizzy, and gives off a cosmetic vibe....makes me feel fresh without smelling like a lemon. As the weather cools, it heats up on my skin and projects upward into the air, and I smell a beautiful liquor-based sunshine. It's like being in the cool woods but then the bright sun peeps in through the trees and hits you and makes your nose and ears hurt a little due to the crisp air (sorry, this one does at times do this if you apply too much in the cool weather, so don't wear it on a headache day in cooler weather). This is the only scent that is "described by others as citrus" that I have purchased. To me, there is a woody undertone that combines with the citrus that makes this incredibly unique. Quite the mood-lifter. It must be why there are some votes up there reminding others of Gucci Envy (not exactly in the scent itself, but it does remind me of my long gone Envy, in a positive way). I only spray twice, and it lasts me 13 hours. It shocks me. The experience for me is a 9 out of 10.

I've wanted to try this since last summer when I first read about the reformulation. At the time, I was on a quest for the perfect citrus scent for me. I finally got around to ordering a sample. This is a beautiful scent, it really is. Yes, it's a citrus aromatic, so there's nothing complex or unique about it..but sometimes a light fresh clean pretty fragrance is all you want. Is there gin? Well, the juniper berry gives off a little illusion of it. It's defintely soft & intoxicating. <-- I realize that seems like an intentional pun, but I assure you I'm really not lame enough to write a bad joke like that on purpose. Gin Fizz smells sophisticated and very pretty. Perfectly blended and top notch quality. The drydown is gorgeous and a tad shampoo-y. Is there fizz? No. Does it last? No, all the reviews are right on, it goes away on me after only 2 - 2 1/2 hours. What a shame, because this works really well on my skin and can totally be my summertime fragrance. I think I may want it even tho its fleeting...it's that nice.

Today after a shower, I wanted a light citrus fragrance. The thought of a winter gourmand or the deep floral or spiced scents that have been heavy in my rotation during these frigid months seemed overwhelming. I reached for Gin Fizz, which I hadn't tested on skin yet. I immediately smelled my grandmother. I know you didn't know the lady but trust me this is in no way an insult. Very clean citrus, the very slightest bit of soapiness (which i generally detest in fragrance but which is lovely here), and the very photorealistic smell of gin. I am reminded of her in a sequin cocktail dress, the glamour of the 1980's, the drink she always seemed to have nearby. There is a hint of powder here as well. A bit ethereal and not at all loud. You have to be close. A mature scent yet one I strongly believe could be pulled off by anyone at any age. It all just depends on the wearer's or the audience's frame of reference. Mine just happens to be my grandma, who never said no to a fancy party or a clear drink.

Soapy freshie with character. Clean, crispy shampooy scent. You got fresh zesty bergamot/lemon, slightly sweet. Green & invigorating juniper. A mild watery white floral accord made up for orange blossom, lily, & oakmoss. That aquatic white floral accord gives the scent such a wonderfully uplifting musky depth. Clean, citrusy, soapy/shampooy, bright, fuzzy, uplifting, happy, soft. Two major points with Gin Fizz you need to know: 1. It starts masculine but drys down feminine as the white floral accord starts to appear. However, it remains easily unisex. 2. Not very unique. It really does remind me of a shampoo. A wonderfully smelling one. I also love the fact that even though it's soapy, it is soft, & not annoyingly shape & synthetic like many soapy scents. Neutral weather, unisex scent. I "Love" it.

Okay, so here it is........a classy, elegant, refreshing citrus fragrance that does remind me of a gin cocktail - a realistic gin fizz or gin and tonic, or even my favorite Bombay Sapphire martini. The mandarin orange and white florals, most notably, the African orange flower and jasmine, bring a sparkly, juicy and slightly green effervescence to this, while the juniper touches bring the flowery “gin” like quality, and adds a spicy touch to it. The galbanum adds a smoothness and depth, as does the vetiver which makes this also wearable by a man most definitely. I would describe this personally, as a unisex fragrance to my nose. It’s not sweet - just very fresh and cool. I am craving this now in the cold of winter, because it reminds me of a delicious, cold, fragrant and hopeful Spring.

Gin Fizz was a love from a first sniff for me. I like green fragrances, but it is hard to find something original and feminine at that genre. Gin Fizz is aromatic, light, green, citrusy, a little floral, aquatic-like, with some gin notes to round it up and make it interesting. It's perfect - fresh, feminine, unique, like nothing else out there. White floral notes are very gentle and subdued, just the way I like it. The fragrance feels like some aromatic mist, a veil, silk scarf - gentle and lady-like. Great for warmer weather. There is certain classy vibe about it, but it's modern at the same time. I love it as I love most of Lubin's creations - one of my favorite perfume houses. This is a review for the new, reformatted 2009's Gin Fizz.

Airy and bubbly- so fresh and clean that almost anyone could wear this. I was curious about the relaunched perfumes of this historic brand, and sampled many from the 3 main lines, Gin Fizz stood out as far easier to wear than the other Lubins, for me it's an instant Thumbs Up. Bravo to Thomas Fontaine (the nose who updated the old formula) A breeze of citrus evolving into a soft white bouquet, nothing ostentatious but universally likable. Gin Fizz is an unobtrusive type of everyday scent, particularly suited for hot summer weather. Whether this is worth the price tag is another matter. I took the plunge and got a small bottle with no regret.

Tried a few sprays of this recently and I was very impressed. A fresh, clean perfume and I would even go on to say invigorating. It certainly wakes your senses. The top notes contain a bright fresh citrus and then the flower notes take over giving this perfume another dimension. The base notes are beautiful blended and end perfectly with a very gentle lily. I found it very longlasting on my skin, a good five hours. A Beautifully blended perfume and I hope to treat myself to it one day. Grace Kelly apparently wore this perfume in the 1950's, all I can say is this tells you how classy and beautiful this perfume really is.

After searching through MANY fragrances, after the first spray I thought "finally - THIS is my signature fragrance" only fo to find it lasted maybe 2 hours before disappearing entirely. Longevity aside, this is a fragrance that manages to be both polished AND sexy. It reminds me of how a red lipstick can say "sexy" and "don't mess with me" at the same time. I normally find citrus scents to be too harsh, but this one was perfectly balanced with the white musk and vetiver to round it out. A description I saw somewhere noted that this had "a hint of untouchable ice queen," and I definitely felt that in this fragrance.

Gin Fizz is so classy and elevated. I love the smell of juniper and this is perfect. Spraying GF on is as refreshing as it’s eponymous cocktail. I get the lemon, lily and musk in the dry down and the juniper is always there. Lubin really is the master at smooth blends, all of the notes appear through the day at different times. GF is a wonderful alternative to the typical sweet/tropical fragrances for summer. It definitely is unisex and the longevity is decent on me. Gin Fizz is fresh lemon citrus and gin fragrance. Lemon, bergamot and gin open the scent with a soapy accent. Juniper and slightly sweet mandarin join the body. It feels crisp, light and clean, like a sparkling gin cocktail on a hot summers day. After about half an hour the dry down includes soft rose and iris, musk, and mild oakmoss underneath the bright and citrusy top end. This is a stunningly uplifting, multi-use summer scent. Gin Fizz could be worn to the office, at the beach, for lunch dates and family visits. Give yourself a spritz when you need a pick-me-up.

If you have ever lived in the country you will understand what I mean when I say that this smell reminds me of freshly washed bed linen drying in the sun and country wind. To me it has this specific fresh, soapy, laundry smell. I've just come back from the country where we celebrated midsummer. I so wished I had it with me there. It's a perfect scent for a summer weekend or holiday in the real countryside, an old cottage surrounded by flowers and herbs. Very gentle and subtle and yet intriguing and not banal.

i have it but down to my last spritz and it seems now there's only one place i can buy it from in London. Beautiful scent that was reccommended to me by a good friend with good taste. It's a great daytime perfume and attracts alot of attention, though no body has actually come up to me and said i smell great, but i see the looks as i walk past...hmmm juts tre-read that, and could be becuase they don't like it??lol No i think people do like the smell, it's different to what's currently on the market.

Gin Fizz is a light, sparkling citrus fragrance that feels airy, refined, and elegant. It opens with a citrus sparkle that feels fresh but never sharp or screechy. There’s a soft juniper fizz underneath that gives it a slightly aromatic, almost champagne like lift. What stands out most is how smooth the citrus is. The fragrance stays close to the skin. It works beautifully for daytime wear, especially in office settings. Think office days, doctor’s appointments, or simply running errands.

The bottled idea of the word effervescent. Yes it’s expensively foolish to buy a perfume with the longevity of a bubble, but I haven’t found anything exactly like it. All the other suggested frags share the same vibe: fresh and light, but they are not the same as Gin Fizz.

Fresh but sophisticated, not the usual lemonade sprayed on . Well structured, part citrus is gently filed down from the flowers and gently sweetened . A great fragrance for women and men. One flaw: it's not longlasting on me .

For me this is perfectly named. I get a lot of lemon and juniper. I don’t normally like juniper but I like it in this. I also get very good longevity and sillage although I know others don’t. It always cheers me up.

I have the old one, and it is more of a chypre than a citrus like thank GOD, the mentioned lily in the base is smoked lily bark though, which gives it a nice mature kick. The edt lasts for 4 hours max. no regrets.

Surprisingly after initially hating it, I turned into loving it especially with a rose scented body cream from Lush that I also initially hated :D They are perfect together! I have them both now :)

Dump cloth with window cleaner product. Unlike the vtg which was a galbanum delight. Go vtg in this case. If you want some fizzy green newer perfume try A scent from Issey.

Gin Fizz is the perfect hot and humid scent. Very refreshing when the hot weather is stifling because humidity.

I think Gin Fizz would be wonderful on a hot day: it's a lovely scent, but it's so light as to be barely there at all. I love the bitter-bright citrus opening and the light aquatic/aromatic drydown of juniper and flowers that soon follows, and the whole is indeed fizzy and festive enough in a subtle kind of way to call to mind a classic cocktail. It's totally unisex and summery in a versatile way; I can imagine wearing this for almost any occasion. But you have to wear a lot/and or reapply often and/or live in a hot climate where this kind of light scent can bloom, or you're going to forget you're wearing any scent at all - I had to use up my entire sample just to get a real impression of it. Of course this can be an advantage as well: it won't be easy to overdose on this one, to get tired of it or to offend anyone even in settings where perfumes aren't appreciated... and sometimes a scent that stays intimate is just what the doctor ordered anyway. I'd like a bigger decant to try wearing it a little more copiously.

If you wait just one minute, even thirty seconds after the initial spray it goes from a straight shot of gin and becomes the beauty that it is. Sweet, crisp, citrussy and fizzy. I spray it on my skin and on my shirt front and it has been just beautiful. I have read that people are saying they needed a respray after 10 minutes, but I definately haven't found this to be so... It's been well over three hours today and I'm getting it's scent both on skin and in it's sillage. In it's dry down Gin Fizz turns to a delicate and soft fizz, lightly floral, citrussy scent and definately is quite classy. I had been looking for a spritzy summer scent away from the Creed vibe and I think this just might be it.

Still on the lookout for a great gin and tonic fragrance. This is probably the closest I've found. The effervescent juniper opening is perfect. Everyone is right about the longevity though—it becomes a skin scent after half an hour. I found that throughout the day, washing my hands or doing dishes, water would reawaken the scent. At this point, it shows up as a lemony floral musk. I really like it, even though I usually hate clean laundry perfumes. It doesn't smell shrilly synthetic. Gin Fizz is delicate and decorous, very elegant, contrary to the racy name. Not a good value or a big statement, but if money is no object, why not make this your summer spritz.

Broomflower review below is spot on. This is mostly a bergamot-limey citrus with some juniper, does have a really lovely fizzy-aqua note, reminding me of a more piquant Guerlain Aqua Allegoria or a more fresh and sparkling D&G Light Blue—but this initially smells better and more complex than the latter. Unfortunately, the longevity and silage are horrid—just not worth going FB on. This is something that lasts about as long as the drink itself in the heat. It might make a great “refresher” spritzer, sort of a quick clean-cologne in the am, but not my style overall. Most certainly “office friendly”—no one will notice you’re wearing anything.

Rarely has a fragrance been so perfectly named. The juniper, the citrus, and the effervescence of the whole thing pretty exactly convey the sense of a fun 1950s gin cocktail. This would be very easy to wear most places in warm weather, especially if you're in a festive mood. I'm not sure what this really has to do with Grace Kelly, despite the advertising copy, and this may not be my very favorite of Lubin's terrific lighter fragrances (I think that honor would go to Itasca, which would be the most likely candidate for me for being full-bottle-worthy). But this is still a happy and charming summer citrus/aromatic.

"Gin Fizz" is a nice fragrance, but unfortunately it doesn't bring anything else to the table. Opens with burst of citruses followed by juniper and floral notes of lily of valley and small hints of rose. It is sparkly, so I do get the "fizz" reference, but unfortunately juniper here is so soft that it does not remind me of "gin" at all, which in this case is a bad thing as it would make this a bit more interesting. It stays close to skin and the longevity is kinda bad, after few hours is gone. Worth a try, but in my opinion, not full bottle worthy - many of this kind with higher quality out there.

Juicy citrus with juniper, clean, sparkling, effervescent without being bitter at all. Just happy and uplifting. Performance is not great, but it's an EDT and a fresh profile, so it won't work in cold weather. Great for Mediterranean summers, feels good to top up mid day over 30 degrees C to refresh. It was meant to replicate a gin tonic fizzy drink vibe and it really does that! Thinking of bringing this back to my collection. Love the bottle shape and size.

The "Gin Fizz" is at the opening - a beautifully rendered citrus opening with a hint of juniper quickly fading down into a bouquet of creamy florals. On my skin, the florals are heavy on the iris and orange blossom. Thankfully, and to my surprise, the musk used here does not go soapy on my skin. On me, Gin Fizz disappears quickly. Might be perfect if you need to go into a scent sensitive environment in a few hours but feel naked without perfume.

Mostly a bright citrus and juniper summer scent, with good performance for this kind of perfume. After 10 minutes Gin Fizz is linear, growing softer until it’s a skin scent. I can’t pick out any other individual notes except for a little smokey vetiver. I like it, Gin Fizz seems reasonably priced for a good quality freshie. I’m not compelled to buy it but would not pass on a good deal either.

I really love the bubbly, crisp, soapiness and gininess of this. It feels sophisticated and mature but not serious. Conjures the vision of an actress drinking a cocktail on a boat, seeing life through yellow colored glasses. It has muskiness and powderiness to it but only enough to give me a minor headache. I would wear to work and for a night with a familiar lover.

This smelled like a mixture of bubble juice with a squeeze of lemon. It's fresh and subtle, and not quite memorable. After less than an hour, the smell faded away, so this would be a no-go for those who are big on longevity and sillage. I find myself more attracted to the bottle– it's very modest but also very glamorous and nice to hold in your hand.

Gin Fizz smells of Sprite lemon-lime soft drink being poured into an ice cold glass, Lemon Pledge, and dryer sheets. I find it very uplifting, tangy-fresh, bubbly, and unusual. Like others have mentioned, its only flaw it that it is just not potent enough. I wish Lubin could take Gin Fizz and multiply it by two. Then I'd be a huge fan.

So happy to found Gin Fizz back after 40 years!!!! Still a huge citrus perfume! Yes normaly it's a women perfume .... But it's great too for guys! The other great esperide scent for men is Balmain for men .... Gin fizz is more subtil and floral. A master piece for the sumer. My note for Gin Fizz ' 10/10

"Gin Fizz" is a zingy, fresh, herbacious scent that is totally unisex and an invigorating tonic in the summer heat. The only problem is the longevity. Very fleeting on paper and even fainter on skin. Still, if you've got the money, go for it!

The opening is very citrus-y; super lemony. I've never had a gin fizz, but I get the lemon over the juniper for sure. The drydown of this reminds me so much of Hedonist Iris- the same sort of very particular lotion-y way.

Fresh bar soap, followed by lime and gin. Slightly bitter, fizzy, bright. A little heady, aldehydic. Happy and pleasant, but nothing groundbreaking.

I like this a lot. Fresh, zesty and loads of lemon. Far more fizz than gin, though.

Tasting blind, I really enjoyed the opening blast of citrus (I picked up more lemon and lime than bergamot) and fresh aromatic feeling, however it was short lived and reduced to a general light spicy citrus scent that was very generic to me. Not necessarily bad, just not intriguing or as fun as the opening. Knowing the brand now, this is similar to my other experiences with this house. I don't see this as particularly feminine at all, if anything it has a lighter genetic mens cologne feel, light, bright, and well... that's it, because before you get out the door, it's pretty much reduced down to a skin scent and not long after you're wondering if you applied anything at all. I'm just testing the from the sample, so possibly if you drown yourself in it, maybe you'll get a different take, but should you have to drown yourself in the first place? When it comes to a spring to summer sun fragrance, this is all initial citrus sun in my eyes, just to realize it's a pretty drab boring day after all.

Gin Fizz is hard to describe. Very abstract. Light, citrusy, soapy, a touch floral; I can feel the lotion-y smoothness of iris. It’s very appropriate, something a nurse could wear, but not cheap-smelling. I’m not in love. For the function this serves (can’t-go-wrong office scent), my go-tos would be a traditional cologne or something modern and super-green like Jardin en Mediterranee or Au The Vert. Gin Fizz is the feminine, floral counterpart to the unisex “clean greens” I like, and tbh it’s not as fun. Inspired by Grace Kelly, who herself always struck me as impeccably ladylike but not much fun.

Gin Fizz is a clean, fresh citrus. I find it to be quite light and subtle. The first time I wore it out of the house all day, I really struggled to have an opinion. When I tried it again a few weeks later, it was a little more musky & oakmoss-y than I remembered, but otherwise still very light and fresh. I would happily wear it if someone gave me a bottle, but I don’t like it enough to buy.

gin tastes like perfume smells to me so i was interested in what this was like. this wasn't the "male cologne" smell that embodies gin, but that was definitely for the best. very clean and clear alcoholic.

Very good opening note. Sadly has a very poor longevity, i personally think it’s slightly overpriced. I would love this fragrance if it would last longer. 5/10

Soapy citrus. Not my jam but I can see it being appealing. Reminds of Crabtree Gardeners hand soap.

Smells like a cleaning product. Very disappointed

The concept of this is rather nice: a perfume that smells like a sophisticated topshelf cocktail, drank in a dark, leather accented lounge where people wear black dresses, pearls, suits, cufflinks, etc. Think of a bar scene in Mad Men or something. I was hoping for the bitter, astringency of gin, with sharp citruses that sting your nose. Nope! The citruses here are sweet, and floral, and there is a pleasant woody undertone to it all. I can detect a gasp of a sharp alcoholic note, but it's faint and around the edges. What this really reminds me of--and is almost dead on for--is Estee Lauder's Pure White Linen Light Breeze, a woody aromatic citrus that is bright and refreshing and reminiscent of cold can of 7 UP. Mind you, people wearing pearls, expensive black dresses, consorting with slightly mysterious men that have just handed them a strong cocktail, are not out in the city for 7 UP, especially at $120/50 ml.

This just did not work on my skin. At all. I blame the iris, my long time adversary. I blame the combination of lemon, musk and juniper. This looks like a fresh and clean scent, and probably is on most people, but on me this smells like very cheap and lemony toilet cleanser. Yes, a toilet cleanser can give that fresh and clean feeling - but the cheapness of it also brings to mind something sour and slightly dirty. I have the uttermost respect for Lubin and their creations, and still do, but this was just not my cup of tea. Stupid, stupid skin chemistry! When it comes to sillage and longvity: Sillage is moderate to strong, and longevity is amazing. Could smell it on me the next day - which in this particular case was not a good thing. ;)

A very soft aqua scent that is all one layer. The emphasis on fizz makes this perfume a combination of laundry (with it's fresh, crispy, citrus) and tonic (with its bubbly, airy, talcum and musk). Not enough gin in this piece for me--I'd love it if the pine-gin smell was, at least, a top note. What passes for gin in this, I think, is a soft lime and iris. That being said, while not a perfume for me (I love big, melodramatic scents) I think this perfume would be a perfect gift for someone else because it's quite a safe, conservative scent while also being a decent quality perfume.

I agree w/ the review below. Soapy citrus. Smells very old school barbershop. Very dated and a bit headache inducing. I wouldn't like this one on my husband either. A very dated soapy floral w/ citruses w/ a barbershop quality.
