Grisette

Grisette is a pretty and very cheeky young lady. Putting on the air of respectability yet there is a flirtatious nature underneath that is ready and willing to have a good time, even break a few rules, but she never gets caught, she looks to sweet and innocent to ever be suspected. Grisette was not what I was looking for, I am looking for a dupe for a perfume that I cannot get because it has been discontinued long ago. But she is still such a pretty rose that I may just buy a bottle anyway. Grisette starts off w/ a zingy and sweet tart grapefruit. As she develops there is pretty roses, lots of roses that are very natural smelling. Different types, tea roses, Bulgarian roses, Moroccan roses. I get a whisp of incense which gives a slight aura of mystery. This perfume becomes quite musky in the base leaving a slight seductive trail when you move about. I do not find this perfume powdery at all and the iris is very slight. Grisette for me is more about the rose, citruses, incense nuances and musk. Very pretty, would be easy to wear most anywhere and in any situation. I can see myself reaching for this a lot. Edit 4/27/23 I forgot to mention that this reminds me of another Thomas Fontaine creation Adieu Sagesse from his days at Jean Patou. But w/ rose instead of gardenia. Both perfumes are cousins. My husband likes Grisette a lot more because she is a rose and not a gardenia perfume. But in my opinion if you like Adieu Sagesse by Patou Heritage collection Grisette is an easy pick up as a companion fragrance.

Like many people on this page, I wish Grisette was about ten times stronger than it is: I think it smells wonderful, but even if I use three times my usual amount, I have to remind myself to sniff my wrists if I want to get much out of it. Only the first few minutes have any power at all. In a forgiving mood I can imagine that this was done on purpose to enhance the link to the Grisettes it was named for, and appreciate it for that: for all of their charm, these working class women lacked any real power, and I imagine that was especially true after their first youth wore off. All the same can be said about this Grisette as well! In a less forgiving mood, I'm just frustrated by this weakness - and if it were cheap enough to allow for "bathing in it" that'd be one thing, but it's not. It's a real shame, because the scent itself is lovely: it smells neither like grapefruit nor like rose to my nose, but like a wonderfully well-blended original, very soft in a non-powdery way and with a subtle sweetness to it that's quite addictive. I guess I'll have to try it again at the height of summer, hoping it'll bloom more in the heat. If not, I'll keep it around for bedtime or occasions when a very subtle scent is called for (maybe I can make my perfume-hating colleague a little happier...)

I don't feel that it lacks strength or sillage at all: on me, it projects very well and is longlasting. There is some musk in it - it makes some people anosmic for a period of time - happened to me many times with other musky perfumes. It lasts more than 10 hours on me and the day I wear it also my phone, pens, papers etc. smell like Grisette. Grisette is a very tasteful, elegant composition with rose and grapefruit being the main players. It doesn't remind me of any other perfume of the genre. Grisette smells very "young" (not necessarily in terms of age) and energetic, fresh, and is absolutely unisex in my opinion. I get compliments all the time when I wear it. Extremely refreshing in a hot weather.

This was my ⚘ ̊⚘ ̊⚘ ̊ Rose Garden Wedding ̊⚘ ̊⚘ ̊⚘ perfume. I smelled many roses, but most were too dark and heavy. With the burst of citrus, Grisette has an effervescence that feels contagious. I know the spirit of the eponymous Grisette herself is somewhat at odds with traditional notions of marriage -- but so am I -- I'm the one who proposed after all!

Something about this smells so bridal and enchanted -- My first thought was girls playing in a secret garden in Europe in the early 19th century and then of course I see the inspiration is the same idea/time period. Totally playful, enchanted, blooming, romantic, belle epoque -- very Jane Austen-esque.
