Grisette

Grisette is a pretty and very cheeky young lady. Putting on the air of respectability yet there is a flirtatious nature underneath that is ready and willing to have a good time, even break a few rules, but she never gets caught, she looks to sweet and innocent to ever be suspected. Grisette was not what I was looking for, I am looking for a dupe for a perfume that I cannot get because it has been discontinued long ago. But she is still such a pretty rose that I may just buy a bottle anyway. Grisette starts off w/ a zingy and sweet tart grapefruit. As she develops there is pretty roses, lots of roses that are very natural smelling. Different types, tea roses, Bulgarian roses, Moroccan roses. I get a whisp of incense which gives a slight aura of mystery. This perfume becomes quite musky in the base leaving a slight seductive trail when you move about. I do not find this perfume powdery at all and the iris is very slight. Grisette for me is more about the rose, citruses, incense nuances and musk. Very pretty, would be easy to wear most anywhere and in any situation. I can see myself reaching for this a lot. Edit 4/27/23 I forgot to mention that this reminds me of another Thomas Fontaine creation Adieu Sagesse from his days at Jean Patou. But w/ rose instead of gardenia. Both perfumes are cousins. My husband likes Grisette a lot more because she is a rose and not a gardenia perfume. But in my opinion if you like Adieu Sagesse by Patou Heritage collection Grisette is an easy pick up as a companion fragrance.

Like many people on this page, I wish Grisette was about ten times stronger than it is: I think it smells wonderful, but even if I use three times my usual amount, I have to remind myself to sniff my wrists if I want to get much out of it. Only the first few minutes have any power at all. In a forgiving mood I can imagine that this was done on purpose to enhance the link to the Grisettes it was named for, and appreciate it for that: for all of their charm, these working class women lacked any real power, and I imagine that was especially true after their first youth wore off. All the same can be said about this Grisette as well! In a less forgiving mood, I'm just frustrated by this weakness - and if it were cheap enough to allow for "bathing in it" that'd be one thing, but it's not. It's a real shame, because the scent itself is lovely: it smells neither like grapefruit nor like rose to my nose, but like a wonderfully well-blended original, very soft in a non-powdery way and with a subtle sweetness to it that's quite addictive. I guess I'll have to try it again at the height of summer, hoping it'll bloom more in the heat. If not, I'll keep it around for bedtime or occasions when a very subtle scent is called for (maybe I can make my perfume-hating colleague a little happier...)

I don't feel that it lacks strength or sillage at all: on me, it projects very well and is longlasting. There is some musk in it - it makes some people anosmic for a period of time - happened to me many times with other musky perfumes. It lasts more than 10 hours on me and the day I wear it also my phone, pens, papers etc. smell like Grisette. Grisette is a very tasteful, elegant composition with rose and grapefruit being the main players. It doesn't remind me of any other perfume of the genre. Grisette smells very "young" (not necessarily in terms of age) and energetic, fresh, and is absolutely unisex in my opinion. I get compliments all the time when I wear it. Extremely refreshing in a hot weather.

This was my ⚘ ̊⚘ ̊⚘ ̊ Rose Garden Wedding ̊⚘ ̊⚘ ̊⚘ perfume. I smelled many roses, but most were too dark and heavy. With the burst of citrus, Grisette has an effervescence that feels contagious. I know the spirit of the eponymous Grisette herself is somewhat at odds with traditional notions of marriage -- but so am I -- I'm the one who proposed after all!

Something about this smells so bridal and enchanted -- My first thought was girls playing in a secret garden in Europe in the early 19th century and then of course I see the inspiration is the same idea/time period. Totally playful, enchanted, blooming, romantic, belle epoque -- very Jane Austen-esque.

Even though its projection and longevity are very weak, it's still one of my favorite summer fragrances. I usually can't stand rose notes that smell like rosewater, but the rose in this one is amazing!

Lubin's Grisette fits very well into the house's efforts to bring its scents into the 21st century. Even when they comprise old-fashioned or traditional accords, Lubin's floral and base materials are almost shockingly modern-smelling. As a consequence, even though Grisette is a classic. ladylike, pearls-and-kitten heels Floriental, it has an attitude--a bit too cheeky to be just another iteration of floral/incense/amber. It doesn't resemble the vintage roses I usually go for, but I still find Grisette charming. If you're looking for a natural-smelling rose, this isn't it; but it also isn't as in-your-face as the roses from the hardcore single-accord merchants like Montale--there's a bit of white musk, but it isn't optic or blinding white, and it is softened with an appropriate dose of powder. If you're looking for a dark or witchy rose, this also isn't it; Grisette's rose smells unabashedly Barbiecore pink and unapologetically girly. A silvery slip of jasmine, and some fresh, zesty grapefruit/lemon on the top, adds to the perfume's youthful impression, as does the composer's very light hand with incense. The amber base is pleasantly, softly sweet, and has a soft-focus quality that it probably derives from the same powdery musk that keeps the rose accord in hand. I'm pretty sure this perfume is aimed at young lovers of modern musky florals--the Coco Mademoiselle and Gabrielle crowd--and I think it would be a great choice for someone young. Me, I've aged beyond the daintiness of the composition, and I don't share Gen Y's fear of intense florals. The powder isn't overpowering and doesn't have the moist, humid quality that some people associate with (I'll stick with the diplomatic term) "mature" perfume. If you enjoy modern perfumes and are looking for a quality rose, this is worth a sniff. Grisette is not a patch on Lubin's massive amber classics, as innovative as Korrigan, or as fun as Gin Fizz (all of these are masterpieces, or near enough), but it makes sense in the context of the Lubin's feminine offerings: every perfume house needs something -suited to pretty young things. If you want a darker and more grownup rose, Black Jade might be a better choice, but I wouldn't hesitate to offer this to one of my stylish young nieces. Lubin is a grand old house, and it has only been revived in the last few years, and the house has done a good job of recreating (and sometimes reimagining) its classics with IFRA-compliant ingredients. I I encourage anyone who hasn't explored it to pick up a sample pack, as I've had a lot of fun working though mine. The contrast between classical compositions and modern ingredient is interesting smelling, and I haven't found anything that didn't at least make me smile. I love seeing an old house revive and flourish, and I hope it continues.

Imagine: you're a dandified rake. It's the Belle Epoque, and your companion is pretty, but not beautiful, a coy, sporting sort, but never immoral, pleasant but not compelling. No one would call her witty but she is no fool. The only truly scandalous thing about her is what a pittance she makes doing "honest" work. She smells vaguely of secondhand flowers from doing the laundry of rosy women, or fixing the ripped seams of perfumed garments worn by racy courtesans. Yet she does not have the means to wash her own self beyond her neck and strong forearms. She is tidy enough, though, and young-- terribly young, but this is not saying much in a time when so many lead short, difficult lives. You enjoy the leftovers of a previous sweetness she has apparently misplaced. Her charm is mainly in that unrealizability inherent with pseudo-demimondaines. A middling gray, neither filthy nor clean. Perhaps if she is lucky, another, more considerate fling will whisk her to the countryside before cholera sweeps the city again. Perhaps you would like her to be more interesting, more intense. To have more depth and complexity. But then she would no longer be your grisette. No matter. Like the sharpest of courtesans, the ones who grow old and opulent, she knows: always keep a little something for herself.

This is a bright, pretty, citrus concoction that smells "ordinary" to me. I have a bottle of Chanel Gabrielle that I consider an "easy - what should I wear today - I don't know I'll wear this" scent. Grisette is so much like Gabrielle that I would not buy buy a bottle even if it was half the price. If I did not already own Gabrielle, I probably wouldn't buy Grisette either, though. (I would still buy Gabrielle - because I really enjoy her). I was shocked to see incense listed as a note here...it sure hides from my nose! Grisette just does not smell outstanding to me. Maybe I'm anosmic to whatever notes give it some "wow". It does not smell "vintage", it does not evoke my Belle Epoque imaginings (which are inspired by jewelery and architecture), and I'm obviously anosmic to the musk. I love rose...but I don't get much rose here, either. Grisette brings to mind breakfast orange juice sans pulp. It's a nice smell, to be sure, but not something I would treasure wearing.

First blast of sweet roses perfectly balanced with bright clean citrus. The rose isn't old-fashioned, overpowering, or soap-like, just fresh and dewy, sweetened by the fruit. After a couple minutes, a faint smokey note starts to bloom over the roses. Projection is disappointingly very close to the skin. A charmingly pretty fresh rose scent like this deserves to be noticed. Feminine and would be suitable for all weather. 6+ hours later: It's too bad the performance on this was so weak, I would have considered buying this. It was pretty gone by the 2nd hour.

A fresh, lovely, easy to wear uplifting floral perfume. I do not pick up the grapefruit note, but I do smell a bucket of fresh squeezed lemons. Dry down is a creamy vanilla-tinged musk, with a clean rose note that stays consistent throughout. All this comes with average performance, and a throw that lasts for about an 30 minutes. I think it’s the opposite of mainstream but also not quite niche, as there’s nothing here that feels challenging or unexpected. Still, I like Grisette, would gladly wear it on those days I just want easy and natural.

starting off, i get citruses, rose, iris and soft musk. it's like a rose in water bathed in golden light. after awhile the citruses die down and it's primarily a soft rose with iris and musk-very soft and inoffensive. it is a very pretty scent, and would be good for work. as always, lubin is very high quality, however the scent profile itself isn't as intriguing as some other lubin scents i have tried. still. very pretty! will keep my decant and will wear it when i want something subtle, pretty and uncomplicated.

I love this scent and it's crazy because it smells like a body wash I wanted in a perfume form! But I really can't stand how it barely lasts an hour even. If anyone can tell me something that is similar with better longevity, I will forever be grateful. Overall stunning scent. But awful longevity and too expensive for this performance Edit: I found something very very similar. Rose magnetic essential parfums. Longevity also isn't the greatest but it performs better and is much more affordable

The opening is a lovely photorealistic grapefruit. After that, on me this is mostly a pretty, slightly transparent, slightly powdery rose perfume. I don't get the incense at all, and the musk is relatively low-key. I generally agree with the reviews that describe this as cheerful, pleasant, and floral. I also found longevity to be a bit sub-par, maybe an hour before it was a skin scent. I like it fine, but not enough that I need to reach for it often.

Lubin’s Grisette is a light, airy, citrus (grapefruit) rose fragrance with a slight vintage feel. The opening is bright and fresh, with soft musk and woods grounding it. It’s easy to wear and a good spring/summer daytime scent. It has moderate longevity and sillage, and the bottle is very pretty too. 🩷

Beautiful pretty floral perfume, so European in style, it is effortless to wear! I get pretty pink Roses and peonies, they are so light and airy, blended so well with the soft sweet notes and effervescent citrus's, like a spring garden in bloom. Perfect spring perfume, easy to wear for everyone.

My boyfriend bought me this perfume for Christmas last year - it's exactly the kind of perfume that a hetero man with no interest in scents buys for his lady. It's HYPER feminine and not very interesting. All I get right away is a bright, dry, powdery rose which dries down to an even powderier iris after an hour or so, and is almost completely gone after a couple hours. It's the perfume equivalent of a pink sundress.

A citrusy rose opening. The rose begins to soften as a powdery iris appears. A barely there scent of incense. It becomes very soft and weak at this point. Finishing with a slight, musky ambery base that is almost imperceptible. Truly faint perfume. Just ok.

To me this smells like a very classic, soapy, soft musky rose scent. It reminds me of clean laundry. I don't really get any citrus notes. Quite a safe, pleasant and easy to wear scent.

A centuries old, Belle Époque era faceted floral. I may reach for this in my 80's.

Luca Turin and I are going to have to agree to disagree on this one, because this is one of my most beloved perfumes. I love fruity florals, but my favourites in this genre are those that have an element of darkness that gives them a gothic quality (i.e. Diptyque's L'Ombre Dans L'Eau EDT, Jo Malone's Blackberry & Bay). But there is no darkness whatsoever to Grisette, the combination of citrus fruits and roses is pure joy. Grisette is sparkling, effervescent, and joyful. It is the mimosa of perfumes, but not the awful, headache inducing mimosas made with cheap prosecco and fake orange juice that they serve at "bottomless brunches". This is the mimosa you have at your favourite boutique hotel, or with a beautiful homemade breakfast on Christmas morning, a mimosa made with real champagne and fresh squeezed orange juice, it is Lubin after all. This perfume is youthful not because it is unsophisticated or naive, but because it is so joyful. This can be worn by a woman of any age, as long as she is happy with herself and her life. If the citrus and roses capture the vitality of the women that inspired it, the incense and the musk capture the working class realities of their lives. Think of how one of these beautiful young seamstresses would have smelled after a long day in a Parisian sewing workshop. This is the dry down of Grisette. Lubin used the same bottle that they do for many of their perfumes, but I love the shape, and I think it works well for Grisette. The peachy pink, slightly translucent cap captures the spirit of this perfume perfectly. A couple of years ago I had a sample of this and wore it when I went to see La Boheme at the Metropolitan Opera. It was the perfect fragrance to wear for an opera written during the Belle Epoque, the era this fragrance takes its inspiration from. I loved wearing it so much I purchased a full size bottle. This is unquestionably a spring fragrance, but it has become my signature for special occasions. I wore this when I was married at the city hall this past January, and whenever I go to the opera or ballet. Since I wear it at least once a month this permanently lives on my vanity, unlike my other fragrances that I rotate seasonally. This has a very good sillage, especially for a fruity floral. I love smelling it while I sit in a darkened theatre, or while out for a nice dinner. On my way to the opera last week I was almost brought to tears by how beautiful this smells, it was so incongruent with my surroundings of the NYC subway. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a pretty, joyful, floral.

How interesting is that the bottle cap of Lubin's Grisette sets the tone of the perfume perfectly? The color is light Victorian pink, not pure pink, suggesting that it's for young women who are vibrant, optimistic but a little bit reserved; it's translucent, not some heavy opaque jade stones, suggesting that the scent is light, darling and a little whimsical. And so it is, Grisette, a simple but not non-sophisticated feminine perfume that is fun to wear casually in spring or summer. If the scent progression of Grisette were a four-hour-long day, it begins with a sunny morning and a small glass of fresh grapefruit juice that is faintly sweet but not bitter. Quickly in the afternoon, the scent of the pink roses and cedar woods rise up under the hot sun. As the sun sets, wispy incense and soft musks flow through the ambery sky; the remaining glory of the day is reflected on a small river of ISO-E Super running through the Victorian-esque city. Grisette actually reminds of Le Labo's Benjoin 19, which costs three times as much, but the rose and grapefruit in Grisette make it a much more worthwhile and not-so-pretentious perfume.

Grisette has a gorgeously cheerful opening of citruses and grapefruits. I immediately swooned over this perfume, it’s so happy. As it dries down the roses become more apparent, but they are tempered with musk, iris, a bit of powder, and thankfully do not smell like a “true rose” or soliflore rose perfume. It’s the epitome of pink and girly escapades on a sunny spring day. As it wears longer it gets warmer from the Amber, musk, and woods. I want to keep reapplying it to relive that opening though, I really love it! Such a pretty perfume and it makes me want to check out what else Lubin has to offer.

The peachy colored lid pretty much sums this up. Easy, free, not too much or little. Perhaps a switch when you're not up for say coco mademoiselle - not that im saying they're alike. They're not - but they hold a similar thread somewhere. Grizette is definitely more overtly rose, peachy hazy champagne type rose, maybe even sometimes it feels a little Tea rose (perfumers workshop). There is something easy to wear about it, softly spiked with incense, not much. I dont feel much vanilla, but i like it, short lived as it seems. Wearing it.. i feel neutral, it is like people and all around is at peace.

I love this combination of grapefruit (which is dominant) and rose, with the distant vibe of other green citruses - just perfect!:) Only the drydown is a bit too sweet for me but it's ok. I once had a sample of some Lubin scent - it was terribly old and stinky due but after some time the true aroma surfaced a bit - and it DID have something in common with this beauty - namely the citruses. I don't know what it was, since the sample was as old as the 80's or even 70's - but today I felt that nostalgic note again:) And I'm definitely willing to test some more Lubin perfumes if I get the chance.

Bottled joy. Cheerful, sparkling, youthful, carefree. Something sharp for my throat and nose. Maybe same aldheydes? I smell pepper. My nose is not educated. This fragrance is the opposite of drama. Not a masterpiece but very well made. Perfect for summer if you don’t like citrus or fresh classic cologne. Very feminine, flirty with a touch of elegance. Beautifully french in an young and modern way even if it may describe the Belle Epoque. Really one of the most happy fragrance I ever tested. It's by Lubin and you can find his chic touch.

I love the individual elements of this fragrance but, on me at least, they fail to come together into a cohesive whole. The opening is sharp and bright with citrus tones that evolve into quite a lovely rose, while the gorgeous undertones of cedar and musk start to shine through, but for a long time the two elements - the citrusy rose and the woodsy base - sit side by side without blending together into any sort of true accord, as though there were something missing to tie them all together.

This scent certainly captures a youthful luminosity and effervescence with grapefruit and citrus predominating in the top and middle phase. It's much that one wishes Gabrielle would be, and the perfume I'd consider for a young woman. There is a pleasant whiff of incense in the drydown which I much prefer, but the fluffy musk in the middle and dry down is a personal turn off. I like it, but wouldn't go FB for myself; it's pleasant, a little sweet, a little sexy, and inoffensive.

The first impression is very boozy and honey rose, that is why someone think this is similar to Rose Barbare or Dom Rosa I think...? the last note is so different. musky, powdery, soapy to me.

Pretty. Inoffensive. Meh. A pretty but fairly generic fruity floral with musky rose supported by some very quiet citrus. Seems a bit expensive for what it is.
