Princesses de Malabar

Princesses de Malabar is very pretty peachy, Iris and ylang meringue fluff of a perfume. I actually find it quite sweet but not too sweet and not overly powdery. It is a soft powder, that of a favorite cashmere sweater that is always on hand, draped over a favorite chair. That favorite staple of your wardrobe, that finely knit sweater is a cherished friend, one that has been worn many times and washed very few. It has collected a mélange of different scents over the years. Perfumes, hand lotions, soaps, expensive handwashing liquid, and even baking smells and morphed them into a soft cloud of scent that gently wafts and hovers around. This is such a pretty perfume and the smell of a dainty and very young Princess. One who is wide eyed innocents itself. If you like fluffy, soft and pretty perfumes, w/ pillowy musk's and gentle florals and softly sweet fruit this is one to check out. It is going on my want shelf. Edit: 5/7/23 Princesses de Malabar reminds me a bit of 2 perfumes that I have from Miller Harris. 1 is Couer de Fleur and the other is Violet Ida. Couer de Fleur has been discontinued but I think they can be found on the grey market, although Violet Ida is harder to find in the USA and more expensive. All 3 of these perfumes feature iris in a big way. The difference and it is enough of a difference that makes me want a bottle of Princesses de Malabar is PDM is fluffier than the Miller Harris perfumes, and they are quite fluffy as well, but PDM is like super airy fluffiness if that makes sense. The texture of this perfume is just so fine. Like I have never smelled a finer powder. Like if this perfume was a dusting powder (which I am obsessed w/ dusting powders) it would be like the most expensive dusting powder money could buy. I have been wearing this all day and it has been a pure pleasure to wear. I cannot wait to get a full bottle of this. It is something I would reach for often. If you love fine quality dusting powders get your nose on this.

This is a stunning peachy white floral that starts out with a gentle powder breeze, and warms to the air of a humid garden. In my mind it's a violet scent, esp in the drydown. It's easy for my brain to mistake it for Meteorites. I tried this a few years ago, and I did not like it. I'm now certain the tester/sample I used to try it was either very, very spoiled, or possibly even a bad "dupe". I had been thinking of Antonia's Flowers Floret because I saw the bottle on my dresser in an old photograph. I wished I could find something along those lines for summer. I would not want a smell-alike, because I was not sure what memories would be conjured actually wearing the fragrance again, but I wanted that pretty, fresh, yet unusual, distinctive floral. I saw Malabar being compared to Floret here, and I realized I needed to try it again. I obtained samples from an extremely reputable boutique, and...wow...I knew I'd never smelled this before. It was exactly what I was looking for...even better! I do feel "Malabar" can be categorized with Floret, but it's much less sweet, and it's not syruppy or hyper-feminine like Floret. I love this very, very much. It smells of a lovely way to start the summer of '22.

Really beautiful. I'd purchase a bottle in a heartbeat, but it has terrible longevity on me with no sillage or projection at all, which simply won't do for me, especially given the price point. It is a lovely, powdery iris, that melts into a beautifully, musky, powdery scent. The first 30 minutes are heaven. Then it vanishes into the barest of skin scents that I struggle to even smell. Of what love we could have shared, if only. If only. PS - I want to add that while I understand that we all experience fragrances subjectively due to various factors, it shocked me to see this compared to Lipstick Rose! This isn't a lipstick iris nor is it waxy as LR can be. It's a powdery floral with iris playing a dominant role. I enjoy them both but see no similarity whatsoever. PPS - I ended up buying a full bottle. I'm just going to have to be prepared to spray heavily and decant some to take with me to refresh.

My dear young girls, if you aspire to feminism, to power, to success and you want a signature perfume, but you don't know the feminist mansions yet, take anything from Lubin, depending on your tastes, sweeter, more woody, etc, as you want . Lubin began by dedicating their perfumes to the strong women of the monarchical houses, and in the modern age it has moved towards the strong, career women of the world and is still the archetype of feminist perfume mansions. "La maison des grandes dames" how their advertising say back in 80-97. Princess de M. is a day fragrance, definitely in the feminist spirit, cold floral, clean, but it have what all the feminist perfumes have, a beast in, a note which says don't provoke me or I will destroy you, in this case I think it's the the iris with something spicy.

My first day and hour in it but this is delightful. Character reminds me of Flower by Kenzo, but peachy. Dominantly peachy. Soft, comforting, warm, fruity, aromatic, rich, opulent. Amazing. It's a very well put together scent - it's rich and multilayered. You can feel spices - tonka, sandalwood, amber and all around it musk. But this is just the background. Front is abundance of iris powder, peach, ylang ylang, cotton flower, magnolia and bergamot. Like a love cloud. It made me happy. I feel like I will remember this feeling of being spoilt with beauty in scent form like in comfort layer.

Powdery iris makeup smell. Now where has this been done before, recently

this was not as interesting as i wanted it to be. it felt kind of plain. the notes sounded very much to my taste but here theyre boring. i strongly recommend trying a small sample. it certainly doesnt smell bad though

Fresh, bright transparent opening with the lemony magnolia, and cotton blossom. The fizzy peach and ylang begin to develop to give it some body and natural sweetness. A powdery iris develops. Its like someone took White Linen from Estee Lauder and freshened it up, brightened it and infused fresh morning sunshine in it. I do detect some musk but nothing to veer it naughty.. just warmth. Im a little perplexed why this would be released in the fall going into winter..unless your in the middle of an indian summer it would work. It feels to me a spring/summer release. If you like Cartier Carat.. this princess will also work for you. Sillage is low, longevity is average. I dont think this is refined as the other Lubin entries...something seems to be off in its usual Lubin aesthetic

This scent reminded me of a very young adult female invite to an adult evening gathering. She shows up overdressed, hair overly styled and too much makeup. She does not yet appreciate good conversation, blankly staring with nothing to add, and eventually drifts out of the party with no one noticing. Likewise, this scent assaults your nose with the plethora of scents, which while not muddy, are just overwhelming and make you want to run away. If you wait, hoping for some sophistication in dry down, you eventually lose hope and either scrub or let it wear out. Best worn home and alone with a pint of ice cream.

I agree with the reviewer below who mentioned stale make up. Malabar is a synthetic peachy scent with Iris, and some really strong tropical flowers in the mix. It’s like the “everything and the kitchen sink” analogy; too many nice notes blended in a chaotic way. The end result has an incongruous effect. Was debating between hitting the mediocre button and the dislike, but in the end it’s the latter. A Lubin strikeout.

I really disliked this. The florals really overpowered this scent on me in a bad way and I didn't really get the fruity notes. The dry down smelt like hand soap while in a public bathroom. This scent is NOT for me lol

This was terrible on me--a scrubber. I blame it on the ylang and magnolia, which are both dangerous from my past experience. I had a free sample. I was sorry I could not hang on to see what came later, but it was one of the rare perfumes that not even curiosity could move me to stick with it. HerNameIsVeronica--I quite liked your little story in your review--it dovetailed totally with my impression of this scent.

I don’t know if my sample has gone rancid or if it’s supposed to smell like this.. It smells like blackthorn flowers and old flower water. The kind of water that’s turning yellow-brownish after the flowers have withered. In the opening I’m getting hints of spoiled peaches. Drydown smells like bad breath. I’m glad I only tested it on paper, I really don’t like it.

I have to admit, the name got to me. Who doesn't want to smell like a princess? That's basically the middle name of my perfume aesthetic. But this is too floral, dry, unlikeable to me. It smells outdated, not fun at all, not girly either. I can already imagine my friend describing this as "Avon perfume from the 50s" and telling me that my grandma would love it.

A very modern take on a very vintage scent profile. Starts off like acrylic paint, but get past it, it is worth it. I am reminded of lou lou and similarly vintage esque scents, with the ylang and peach sweetening and tartening up a very classic white floral / ambery woody base. Lots of iris turning this into a powdery boudoir feel. Not my typical scent profile but I have to say this one is really enjoyable. I think because as opposed to the usual vintages, this one has just that few notes less (civet, carnation, anise, I'm looking at you). That said the drydown still has an air about it that I can't get behind - I reckon it's the jasmine it turns a touch indolic in a stale kind of way if that makes sense. ** 200 samples for swap UK - check my customs, 10+ bundles **

Yes , its like cotton flower, some cotton candy and cotton wool. Not like gourmand sweet. Its like you're wearing nothing but your own sweet beautiful skin. Its almost like an invisible musky type aura - certainly something old school transparent sweet. It even reminds me a little of Samsara sweet. AND then later it hit me, i smell that musky sweetness from Lolita lempicka (green box purple apple bottle) but in no way is there any licorice. You may feel PdM is soft - maybe it is on you.. or not ? Its kind of secretive.. But, its the sort of scent your date or otherwise would think, mmm this skin smells good enough to lick or kiss.

Peachy tuberose that starts out fresh and clean, gets warm, peachy, and fuzzy, and ends as a sophisticated buttery peachy vanilla. This is a sophisticated floral fragrance.

Not good. Screechy. Synthetic. Not the worst I've seen though. 4/10
