Cast A Spell

Bought this at the same time when i got Purple Lips by Salvador Dali and despite the fact that i like both very much, i'm enjoying this one much more then the latter. It smells pretty much as i'd imagined it. Deep, berry-like, dark-ish and enchanting. I'd have to disagree with RouenFr; it is not at all sweeter then Lolita Lempicka or Flowerbomb. I really dislike both LL and Flowerbomb because they are too sticky sweet to my nose. Cast A Spell, however, comes off as really pleasant and works with my skin's chemistry. Otherwise, i do agree that it's more of a Fruity Floral type of a smell. But there is a bit of a woodyness to it - it's felt by its depth. I also find that there is a bit of a masculine aspect to it, once it's settled on my skin that is. It seems as though this masculinity stems from the Lavender. I was expecting Purple Lips to smell like "a picnic in the forest", after reading some of its reviews. Instead, it seems as though Cast A Spell has defined this aspect much better. Moreover, it makes me think of an ancient, deep, frozen Nordic forest, where enchanted indigo berries grow and are used as a key ingredient for magic potions. The bottle, however, looks a bit disappointing in person as opposed to the photographs. With that being said, i still think it conveys the spirit of the fragrance to a certain degree. It reminded me of the cover artwork for Mortiis' first album (Norwegian Atmospheric Black Metal musician), and Summoning (Austrian band, whose main musical themes are about JRR Tolkien's work).

This fragrance right here lives up to its name and I fear it is so under valued. I picked up my first bottle at TJ Maxx for $10. I would pay $100 for it if I ever found this again. This fragrance is decadent with a rich dark chocolate body that lies just below the surface. Literally every time I smell it my nose picks up something else. If you feel that Angel by Thierry Mugler left you wanting more than I Cast a Spell will more than satisfy. It smells like a Godiva chocolate left under the pillow of a sleeping goddess. Yes!

Oh wow!!! I won a 3.4 oz tester for $17 in an eBay auction and I bid on it solely because of the reviews and the notes here. This is a beauty. I LOVE THIS. Deep and dark berries and patch. I own over 100 perfumes, lots of vintages, etc. and this is one that I'm going to be needing a backup of, I'm going to be wearing the hell out of this. This is most definitely a Halloween time of year perfume. So happy with this blind buy. I'm verrrry picky too. Trust me-this thing is GORG.

This is fragrance was such a delightful surprise. I thought from the description that it would be too sweet but not at all. There are underlying spices that surface within 5 mins on me, eliminating some of the berry tones. I get creamy blackberry with a dash of spice. The packaging and bottle is adorable. Wonderful concept. I miss it and need to purchase again!

This is a great rainy-day scent, because of the wet berries. On me, it smells like patchouli, berries, and iris...deep, earthy, wet, and powdery. I love it. It's a little too much for office-wear, though. I prefer it on my days off, in cold, wet weather.

Omg, I'm back again because I can't believe how much I love this perfume. I'm going to blow through this bottle. Definitely need a backup. I wanted to add that this smells a little bit like DKNY Delicious Night and CK Euphoria.

this perfume is very differnt then anyone i have ever owned. can not put my finger on it why i like it so much but i do :)

Oh I WISH this worked for me. Because I so LOVED the notes of this perfume!! On my skin Cast a Spell is very heavy, syrupy berries. Quite a linear perfume but... if you think you'd like a super sugary scent (much like Fantasy) with berries for a low price, go for it. For me it was WAY too heavy (and I usually like these types of scents). However, if you go low on the spritz and wear it at night or cool days, this could be a good choice. Due to the heaviness of the scent, be sure to test first. Might be too cloying. Another disappointment from Lulu Guinness... Sigh... Edit: If you really like berry scents, you may want to try Black Musk by Jovan. It's much lighter on the heavy "sugar" factor and has a much sexier edge to it with red berries sprinkled from the top and all the way to the bottom notes. (It's also cheaper!) It's the only berry perfume I've used that makes a "sexy mature female" statement rather than light or childish as berry scents tend to be.

Berry, berry and more berry! I find Lulu Guinness' perfumes have their own quirky personalities. Cast a spell is cold, dark and enchanting, against all the berries syrup in the composition, the dark personality is still coming through. Again, like other Lulu Guinness' creations, I love it, too. The warmth of amber doesn't warm it up one bit. We're still in cold deep dark forest with no way out! Although, we don't really want to get out as if we're under a spell. Keep wandering. In the enchanted forest. The longevity is moderate, 5-6 hours

Faerylike, mysterious. It smells like the bottle looks. :) Quite sweet but not too sweet (important! since I can't stand too sweet smells), warm and comforting, spicy. As always it depends on your skin, I am kaukasian with brown hair and olivish skin- on me it really works well and the warm spicyness comes through. It is not a scent I would wear for work in an office, neither during summer, it might be a bit strong for that. I find it more to be an evening perfume, or on chilly autumn/winter days.

Cast a Spell smells to me like dewy moss, like something you would find in a dark, enchanted forest after it has rained. Very earthy. I didn't get any of the sweetness that others are describing, I found it to even be a little bit masculine. The scent lasted on me all day, and the sillage was quite good. While I appreciate this scent, it isn't something that I would actually wear often.

I just purchased the pure parfum version of this fragrance and I really am enjoying it. I think they should call it fruity oriental(huh?)though, because to me it smells like berries and patchouli. The other Lulu fragrances, however, I do not care for. I haven't tried anything other than the pure parfum one....but I think this one is lovely!

At first a huge splash of berries. Sugared berry mix. When it settles, I get masculine vibes. And something earthy. The top and the mid/base are so different from each other! I like it though. I don`t find this oriental at all, maybe fruity(berry) woody if that would be a category. :)

It starts out heavy on the berries and violet, and stays long with a creeping of patchouli (tolerable) and what resembles nothing so much as "Old Spice." It's a good, fun, unisex perfume, if you're a woman who sometimes takes pleasure in confusing people, which I do.

i just love this bottle! i am trying this again after not having worn it in a long time. it is nice, but reminds me a lot of lolita lempicka, and i like LL a bit better. LL seems to be sweeter and have more of an anise note, while this is drier and more clean.

lovely bottle! invokes mystery & fairytales!!, the perfume is a warm rich smell very berry!! very fruity, good silage & a good distinctive smell, anyone who loves fruits will like this, the perfume smell matches the bottle!!

I so wished the blast of fresh berries stayed for more than a half hour on me :o( In the beginning, I really enjoyed it, but after a half hour it just fell flat on me. Now I have a bottle that will get no love.....

it ́s very woody-sweet. i like it:) not powerful enough for evening, i use it daytime when i need some cheering up. it ́s a happy scent!

Yes, berries, berries, berries! All sweetly swimming around in a synthetic patchouli broth. Nary a floral in sight. The drydown is a little more exciting with sweet amber infused by more syrupy berries. I loved Mandycat's description and I wish, wish, wish upon a poisoned apple that I could get what she smells. That is not say this isn't an enjoyable fragrance but I had been seduced by tales of dark, icy woodlands and that is not what I experienced here. I didn't really experience *anything* when trying this sample. **Sigh**

Dislike this one. Too much of a chemical powder smell for my tastes.

I'm really on the fence regarding Cast A Spell. While I enjoyed wearing this fragrance, it didn't leave much of a lasting impression, in other words, it failed to 'cast a spell' on me. Berry-based fragrances are something that I like smelling on others, but very rarely on myself. Blueberries, blackberries and red currants are in abundance in this composition, and remind me very much of country berry picking farms. Although sweet, juicy and flirtatious, these accords only turn sour once they hit my skin. I was hoping that the patchouli would soften the juiciness and provide an earthier feel. A touch of greeness would have been highly appreciated too. I pictured, and in turn hoped to be transported to a mystical forest with colourful butterflies and ripe berry bushes. Unfortunately this was not to be, as surprisingly lavender stole the patchouli note's opportunity to shine. I should add that although this isn't personally my cup of tea, it is a relatively well constructed berry scent. Much nicer than I expected. It has a nice depth to it, which makes it a wonderful scent for all seasons. Like Fairytales, also by the same house, this fragrance will appeal to young girls and older women alike. To my nose Cast A Spell is a fruity floral with a touch of smooth, slightly herbaceous lavender, which merges into a sweet, powdery drydown. The lasting power is quite impressive, lasting on my skin well over six hours. I have a lot of respect for this brand, and I hope to see more fragrances from them in the future. Their bottle designs are really beyond beautiful, and are worth collecting for just that reason alone.

Wow, based on reviews here it looks like this fragrance goes really different directions on different skin! Wearing it for the 2nd time; initial burst when applied with a heavier hand than I did at first (4-5 sprays vs 1 or 2) brings out lots of juicy sweet blue and blackberries and currants- yum! It's much juicier than I remember from last testing it. (15mins in) the patchouli here is pretty well-behaved; nothing dank, dusty, or dirty, just that characteristic 'naturally spiced' facet it brings. The amber's only detectable as a warmth behind the sweetness now. The berries stay fairly sweet though and only have a small, very pleasant hint of tartness (vs going sour) on my skin. No there isn't a ton of depth, but it's pretty pleasant! Better than I remembered, and I really do love a decent berry tone. Happy to smell blueberries in this! Will try a few more times after this much more pleasant experience, almost swapped my bottle the first time because it seemed too heavy to me...

I found a 3.4 oz bottle of this at Marshalls and before I even seen it there I had sampled it at Kohls like a while before that and I didn't remember the scent but I sure remembered that pretty bottle! So,I bought it and I didn't like it at first but I wanted to keep it to display the bottle.Well after having it for about a month or so I finally wore it instead of just letting it sit there and I can say it is not that bad! It smells like frozen raspberries and it doesn't remind me of any other scent it is unique and the drydown smells really nice it is softer and very sweet.It is well worth $9.99 but would I have paid Kohls prices for this? No way! I would like to collect other LuLu Guinness fragrances because I like these types like her and Anna Sui and Lolita Lempicka and Nina Ricci I like these pretty bottles I am a sucker for them!

I LOVE this fragrance! The bottle is adorable & magical--reminding you of princesses & knights, dragons and magic! And the parfum inside is just as fantastic. I'm a big fan of woody-orientals (Lolita Lempicka, YR Neonatura Cocoon etc) and that might be why I love this one. It's such a soft, sweet scent on me---the berries nicely balance out the amber and patchouli. You really don't get just one strong note, they blend so well. I like the fig leaf in it, too! I paid full price from Sephora for this (about $58 USD for 1.7 fl oz EDP) and now that it's DC'd I managed to hunt down a backup at a random, out of the way perfume store. It IS still on shelves, just getting harder to find. I smell delicious today, I just have to say. Berries and patchouli and amber---sweet and sexy. A little goes a long way on this one.

Lulu Guinness CAST A SPELL is primarily a sweet plastic patchouli perfume, with some plastic berries thrown into the mix. This sort of composition holds real headache potential for me, but before reaching that point (if I lightly apply), it smells somewhat interesting. Similar to how I am drawn to the scent of open magic markers, oddly enough. Also gas fumes wafting off the nozzle. Perhaps in a past life I was a glue sniffer? (Or perhaps in this life, but I forgot? (-;) As a novelty scent, for an olfactory experience lasting as long as the contents of this vial, CAST A SPELL is worth trying, but I'll not be adding this fragrance to my collection. This is not the sort of composition which melds well with my cells. There is no way that I could use a full bottle.

How is this Oriental Woody? I would think it would be Floral Fruitty like Lolita or Flowerbomb. I think this does smell a bit like Lolita, however even Lolita isn't this sweet. At first spray I couldn't stand this scent, it was too sweet. However, it does lose some of its overly sweet smell as it dries down. I might buy a bottle of this if I can find it cheap. I would like to layer this with Lolita or Flowerbomb (maybe both) I think flowerbomb would be better because the earthyness of the tea might help cut down on Cast A Spell's sweetness. This scent might be too young for some and I would not suggest wearng this to the office because it is too powerful. One spritz is what you need, so this scent will last you a long time

I remember buying a bottle of this 11 years ago one weekend visiting with friends in Chicago. I thought it was sooooooo amazing, dark blackberries and woodsy patchouli. The tiniest hint of lavender giving it a smooth coolness. I wore it all the time and probably too much of it. I wore this during the time period when I started dating my son's father. It seemed sexy and mysterious, perfect for seduction. Well, that relationship fell apart in less than two years. I can't wear Cast a Spell anymore, because for me it now smells like broken dreams and immature decisions. But for someone without my associations, this is a nice "cool" scent of dark forest and berries on the bush and just a little bit boozy.

I've had this for awhile and finally got around to using it more and now I love it. I wear it on semi cool days when it's not overwhelming, but it still lingers and warms up on my skin. I am sure it's been discontinued. It starts off with dark berries and an icy lavender. Then it moves into an ambery floral, and this is where it warms up and gets sexy. The drydown is softly floral amber and patchouli. It's dark and glittery at the same time. Some notes were left off. Lilac petals, davana blossom blended with darker notes. Black velvet fig, amber, bourbon, and white patchouli. If anything, it reminds me of CK Euphoria. Only because of the sensual fruits.

Hello, plastic berries! A while ago someone on the forum was asking about plastic scents, and this one so fits into this category. Not that it is bad, I actually quite like it, but it falls close to Kenneth Cole Black with the plastic feeling to it. Aside from that, I like the berries and the lily combination, and it is fairytale-ish, probably not something from the Grimm brothers tales, but quite close. It failed to excite me, maybe if I tried it a few years back I would have enjoyed it a lot more, but with the market overflowing with fruity perfume, this one is just one of very many decent fragrances out there.

It smells berry-like and deep. Not at all earthy like I imagined, a dark forest would smell. It's quite intoxicating and strong, similar to Queen by Queen Latifah, or a much heavier version of Princess by Vera Wang. :) A fragrance that is also a bit masculine, mysterious, and enchanting. :)

I had this and gave it to a friend, it was hard to part with its such a unique scent, very strong and heavy maybe more for winter. I am missing it now and wish I had it back, and the bottle was so cute

I just sold my bottle. Not because it’s bad, just to clear out some of my collection. This is a wicked berry with some patchouli. Not too strong.
