Amelie Mae

I haven't left a fragrance review OR purchased a rose-centric fragrance in a long time, and this scent inspired me to do both. I felt it was owed. I found a few differences between the solid scent and the spray - both of which I had to get! Here you go: -Solid perfume: The absolute embodiment of the scent of the Lush store. There is a cute story behind this scent that tells of the Lush perfumer creating this for his daughter, but I find it's the perfect mix of youthful and mature. POWDERY, candied raspberry-roses, with a powdery (less masculine, more sweet-candle) lavender almost rounding the scent into something bubblegummy. This descriptor aside, it is not cheap or immature smelling, although fairly linear and very long-lasting for 10$. A little goes a long way! It's actually pretty potent stuff. May trigger headaches in those that are rose-sensitive. -Spray perfume: The largest variance between the scents that I found, was this spray version is WAY more lavender-centric. Much more heady and spicy - almost feels "buzzy", unisex, less-innocent. The sweet, powdery roses are understated and more of an afterthought. I actually think the dry-down is more elegant in the spray perfume, it almost is an entirely different scent though. Still the embodiment of the 'Lush store scent' - just leans closer to Twilight or Sleepy, and with that hint of sweet raspberry crayon-roses just peeking through as a whisper! I love them both, and they are both different in their unique ways! (more bang for your buck in the solid though!)

This is raspberry candy heaven with a Lush vibe to it (if you like that sort of thing). Luckily for me I do enjoy sweet scents that lush comes out with but if your are no fan of sweet fruity florals, keep away from this one. This reminds me of a raspberry pop or a sparkling raspberry-ade. This perfume stays true to the cute story behind it. From what I read on the Lush website, the perfumer who also designed Imogen Rose after his first daughter's name, Simon Constantine, made another for his second daughter after being advised by Imogen Rose. Amelie Mae personally picked the notes to be put in the perfume and here we are with a sweet, young, happy and bouncy fragrance. I don't like giving perfumes a gender but it does smell more suiting for females, especially young ones at that. It reminds me of teenage girls with bubbly laughter. I don't wear this on a daily basis but enjoy it from time to time when I need something to refresh my mood. 8/10

The top of this fragrance is a sharp lavender, aldehydic and alarming. I don't enjoy the top notes, but they only last a couple of minutes before transforming into something delightfully like breathing in a box of fresh, unburned raspberry incense. A deep, sweet incense, a little fruity, and super long lasting. The person who said it kind of smells like walking past a Lush store - I think that's accurate too. I know a lot of people think this scent is young and bouncy - but I don't get young or bouncy at all. The incense part of this fragrance makes it more grown and sultry, in spite of the sweetness. Not a lot of sillage, unfortunately. I'd love to be a walking cloud of this scent. But I'll take what I can get.

I really love this! It’s sweet, savory, floral gosh! It has everything it needs to be comforting and completely wearable! I have yet to visit a lush store so I cannot make that connection! But I will say that first spritz I get a beautiful lavender tang very close to the Young Living Lavender essential oil; so immediately I feel relaxed and calm and happy to experience it as it dries down! Then it’s a yummy zingy raspberry and light florals not overtly rosey but rather lightly sweet mix of ylang ylang and a hint of rose! I really enjoy this mix it’s wonderful!

Too reply to amberonic down below; I am a guy who loves this scent a lot. I didn’t know it was being discontinued, what a shame... I will have to go slowly with my bottle I’ve had for a few months now. It is very sweet, a unique sweet though for sure, not a cheap or synthetic sweet but a very satisfying blast of some fruit stand in Tahiti sort of vibe. Winner, great one to have in my collection and I actually wear this quite a bit... may have to snag a backup if this is going away :(

I typically hate sweet scents but this doesn’t strike me as that. I smell it as fruity and lightly floral - and not at all sickening like most other scents who attempt the same feat. And at the bottom of it all still smells like Lush, which is of course awesome. But I do wish the sweetness was toned down a bit more. Plus my boyfriend loves it! He likes girly fragrances on me, while I typically don’t, but here we’ve found our middle ground!

This has been one of my favorite perfumes for years. A springy gentle fruity scent. To me it doesn't have the tartness of a lot of raspberry fragrances, it's extremely sweet and sugary. Smells like a rich bubble gum mixed with a grape jelly. It smells just like walking through the lush store. It has this garden tea party feel, subtly glamorous. This is one of those perfumes I would wear anywhere.

This stuff smells incredible... really really good... basically smells like walking by a LUSH store. I love sweet candy but strange sort of smells... this hits all the marks for something I will be rocking for a long time going have to get a large bottle before they do something stupid and get rid of it.

It smells like the very warm and pleasant Lush store!!! IMO it is better for colder days becouse of it’s sweetness. A good fruity floral scent, very familiar and likeable.

Lush products, especially bath stuff, have always been a special treat to me that I got every once in a while, but this year I started to use them on a more regular basis and also finally tried their perfumes, starting with Amelie Mae which is now discontinued. I think this perfume smells very much like raspberry flavored candies and a mix of several Lush products: Sweet and fruity notes, mixed with something almost insence-like, the rose from Rose Jam, the lavender from Twilight (only in the drydown), the warmth of a shea butter based massage bar and the fizzy sensation of shoving a bath bomb under your nose. The latter kind of ruins it for me to be honest, I love bath bombs but I wouldn't sniff on them all day either. This is a cute scent that would layer well with many sweeter Lush body care creations, but it's too sugary and too fizzy for me personally.

Amelie Mae smells pretty similar to the other perfume Lush sell called Rose Jam. But there's a geranium note that really bothers me in Rose Jam that has always prevented me from wearing it. Thankfully, Amelie Rose does not feature this note and I'd say it's a more rounded, softer twin to Rose Jam. A sugary, jammy rose scent, with raspberry notes threaded throughout which seem to prevent it from a sweetness overload. It has a lipstick edge to it.

Jammy, buttery, thick and sweet raspberry and rose. Exactly as GenevaX describes, "an aggressively synthetic, cloying fruit note drowned in sugar substitute". Also as lavenderclouds points out, medicinal as well. Regardless, although I totally agree with them, I still really enjoy it. Sometimes you do just want to be reminded of simpler things. 6.5/10

Very strong raspberry note in this for me. The Rose is sugary and sweet. Unfortunately the ylang ylang is prominent as well, which is not usually a note that works for me. However, it reminds me a lot of Rose Jam and Imogen Rose both of which I enjoy.

The top is completely ylang and lavender and nothing like Rose Jam but then that burns off and it turns into a jammy rose but with the raspberry jam note much stronger than the rose. The lavender and ylang still drift around.

Youthful and sweet scent, like berry and roses with cute vanilla. Used to love it when I was younger but kinda grew out of it

It’s a fairly linear blast of jammy raspberry with some floral notes that don’t quite manage to elevate this scent out of the middle school bathroom. It’s Rose Jam’s twerpy kid sister. While disappointingly juvenile and candy-sweet, sometimes one wants to invoke simpler memories of bubble-gum and fruity body sprays. This isn’t something I reach for frequently, but it can be nice to spritz on after a bath, especially with the relaxing lavender notes. Ultimately I feel like I’d be more enthusiastic about this scent if it was in a bath bomb or shower gel (or if I was still a teenager, I would have been all over this stuff in my younger years).

Amelie Mae is sticky, sweet, warm cherry syrup with almonds. I initially loved it but now I merely tolerate it, because it can become a bit too thick, cloying, and medicinal for me many times. It's definitely one to be worn in colder weather, because heat makes it even stickier. I liked it for what it was at the time of purchase a few years ago but I would not rebuy this scent now. Fans of this would also probably enjoy Burberry Her Intense, which has similar vibes but is less cloying and sticky.

This is a review for the solid version of this perfume. Initial scent is overwhelmingly sweet, the vague synthetic sweetness of a child's perfume, like candied fruit. It then turns into a plasticky, waxy scent that underscores the sweetness. Occasionally I'll get a whiff of a pleasant lipstick smell, a dry combination of sweet rose and lightly powdery lavender. The dry down is very linear, a slight powdery sweetness that just continuously fades as time goes on.

Got this on a whim in a Lush store, I just get too greedy when I'm in there I guess. This scent doesn't at all fit me after all. I do like some of the notes, the rose and ylang ylang. But to combine it with very overbearing raspberry, almost like syrup I think. And then there's supposed to be lanvender in it that I can't smell at all. It reminds a lot of the rose jam shower gel as well and even though I enjoy that, I would definitely not wear it as a perfume. When I wore this scent it felt strange and unfitting, like I was trying to be younger and way sweeter than I am (Im in my 30s). It is so incredibly sweet that it is a bit headache inducing to be honest.

The opening floral scent was lovely, but then... I'm not sure if it was because the ylang-ylang and raspberry, it smell like beer on my skin after 30mins LOL

I wish I could smell what others do here. People seem to like this. Admittedly, I'm perplexed. There's sweet and then there's this, which is like being on a carnival ride as a kid with a stomach full of cotton candy, pixie sticks, and fizzy drinks - just queasily, gut-churningly sweet. It calls to mind a series of less-than-appealing smells from childhood: scented "slime", fruit-scented markers, and scratch-and-sniff stickers - all things artificially saccharine and plasticky. All I get is an aggressively synthetic, cloying fruit note drowned in sugar substitute. It's a pugnacious little girl in frilly socks and pigtails, lollipop clenched in fist, ready for a brawl. Maybe my opinion will change . It wouldn't be the first time dislike turned to appreciation with a Lush scent. But as it stands for me now, this just isn't wearable.

I finally got to test this today, and I have to say, I think it’s similar to Rose Jam. Maybe a little more subtle on the rose and jam, but I have this and the Rose Jam body spray on side by side, and I think they are quite similar. Rosey sweet raspberry scent, I think I slightly prefer this one because it’s “lighter” and not quite as “syrupy”. They’ve really lightened up their scents, though. When the solids came in the push up black tubes, they were all I could handle; the sprays were too potent for me. I’m also the type of person who prefers my scents to be in my hair care, lotion, shower gel, solid perfume, etc, because I find sprays to be too strong. However I tested 3 different sprays, and didn’t even feel the need to wash anything off (which usually happens to me). The little solid pots they have now, however, are useless, they barely smell like anything. The one ounce size of this is currently going for $39.95, I recommend that.

First reaction upon spritzing: If you could sublimate marzipan, this would be the gas you'd get. I made the mistake of testing this on a summer's day... big mistake! Obviously it is more suited to cold, winter days. I was surprised to see that the notes do not list pistachio or almonds, because to my nose, it definitely smells like that. I am also getting a strong aldehyde note. So far, so good, I am enjoying the scent. HOWEVER, what spoils this fragrance for me is the drydown - the fragrance goes 'smoky' (burnt, to be precise) and strangely, it also smells like urine (ammonia) to me... Not attractive. If it wasn't for the dry down, this would be a great fragrance - to me. But hey, maybe it is just my body chemistry that messes it up! If you wear it and enjoy it, all the power to you.

[Amelie Mae] ⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️⚪️ What a lovely little perfume. Lipstick, raspberries and youth. The yellow florals lean in the direction of Chanel No.5 and nod further with the powdery/cosmetic context. Amelie Mae also contains a lot of the staple elements which create the “Walking past the Lush Store” illusion. The Ylang, Rose, Lavender & Citrus could have you mistaken for a body scrub. Well worth seeking a bottle of this. I can’t understand why it’s not available anymore. It seems like a staple of Lush’s image. This could have even been a self-titled release. Having never smelled “29 High Street” I can’t comment on its similarity to Amelie Mae. 29 High Street being Lush’s legitimate attempt to recreate the smell of their stores (hopefully from about 400 yards away).

A Lush employee recommended this to me when I told her I love roses. Now, I feel like this isn't that rose-centric, but I like it a lot! The spray version smells way more earthy, almost tea-like! And the balm version... I'm VERY impressed with the longevity. I had it on the back of my hand since I thought it would wash off easily, I chose the spot because it was my first time trying it and didn't know if I'd like it or not. Luckily, I liked it very much, since the balm just stayed on through washing my hands several times that day. The balm is a lot more candy-like, but not in an irritating sense. There's something a little acidic to it, my mother smells pineapple.

(*I have the solid edition in this perfume, so I will be reviewing that since it isn't in the database*) This perfume is extremely girly and fun, as this scent reminds me of the first time I started wearing fragrance around 12 or 13 years old. The solid version leans to the raspberry and bubblegum side of the scent. I have layered this as suggested with its twin, Imogen Rose and the combination has some hidden potential. During the dry down, this is when the herbal side(patchouli) comes out. My inner teen wishes she would have access to this when she was younger. My Rating: Wearability: 5.46 Silliage: 45

It was easy to knock this as "girly-raspberry-iced-tea" when it first came out. But I tried it again now that it's being discontinued and I have to change my tune. It absolutely smells like rose jam, (a jammy rose on a vanillin base) but with a translucent raspberry opening. It's actually quite dreamy and I have a number of male friends who I think could totally be at ease in this.

It really is a shame the solid version isn't sold anymore, as a whole I find the solid versions of Lush perfumes to be the superior versions. The solid version is very sweet, sugary, it's like if you mixed lipstick in strawberry and rose hip jam to create something happy and peppy. Very nice.

Whenever I want to smell like I just spent a week in a Lush store in a jammy, sweet, rosy but lavender kind of way-- I spray on this. Love the dry down too!

I was at a lush store in Berlin today (August 2020) and they were fully stocked with amelie mae! It had been discontinued last time I was there.

Reminds me of walking into a Lush store. Very sweet and fruity but nothing like snow fairy or creamy candy. Great longevity.
