Flower's Barrow

At first, I wasn’t a huge fan of Flower’s Barrow by Lush (I had the 30ml Gorilla Perfume version), but it completely grew on me. Before I knew it, it had become one of my most-reached-for scents and I found myself rationing the bottle. On my skin, it opened geranium-forward, with the rose sitting just behind it, giving this airy floral hum that never felt old-fashioned. The blackcurrant was also very noticeable — juicy, slightly tart, almost winey — and surprisingly, it was my first time loving a perfume with a strong geranium note. What struck me most was how familiar and comforting it felt. There’s also that slightly earthy, gothy, mysterious undertone (I agree with @gkdomarkaite on this!) that made it feel more like a nighttime ritual than a daily fragrance. I received a lot of compliments from men while wearing this — two even asked me to write the name down and whether it was unisex. Someone once told me it smelled like Ribena, which honestly tracks, because the blackcurrant comes through beautifully on my skin. Overall, a dark, juicy, floral-earthy blend that feels nostalgic, comforting and quietly dramatic. I miss it already.

I have recently started collecting perfumes in the attempt to find that ellusive "signature scent" that everyone but me seems to have since my allergies are a bitch to work with. The description of this sounded really nice, but honestly I didn't even have any idea in mind what this might actually smell like as I checked out online. After excitedly taking the cap off and spraying, I have to say that this is the closest to tears I've ever been over a smell-memory. This smells exactly like my great grandmother who kept me every Summer as a child. That's not to say this is an unpleasant "old lady" smell, because she wasn't that kind of grandma. It's not at all cloying or choking or living-on-a-set-income type smell. It simply encompasses everything that was her life - lots of garden flowers and sunshine, wooden chests filled with clean folded clothes, warm hugs, and just two bottles of perfume sitting on her vanity. I'm not sure I'll actually wear this, as it's not really "me," but I'm so happy to have this, as it lets me have her just a little bit longer.

I used to have this, but in a splash bottle that spoiled a long time ago. But I do miss it and wish it came in smaller bottles today. I doubt I would ever use use up an entire 100 ml bottle of this. It's strong in the typical Lush way, and shares the roughness of the other perfumes from the brand. It has this un-finished feeling. When I owned it I used to get compliments about this fragrance, some commented it smelled like candy. It's herbal and has some sweetness and I thought it smelled very realistically like the green geranium plant. I think the thyme is quite distinct as well, just from what I remember from it. I think this would suit a bohemian, lonesome gardener somewhere in England quite well. That's at least what comes to mind. It's a bit moody and introspective somehow. There is something dark in here that I can't quite put my finger on. A bit gothic maybe?

I tried this before buying and fell in love. I don't usually like floral scents, but something about this draws me in - probably because it reminds me of something from the 50s or 60s, but not in a total grandma way. It is very geranium heavy on the initial smell but has an edge. On the dry down it's still very sweet, floral, maybe vanilla, with a slight whiff of something herbal. Can't say I get much rose from this, which is fine cause I'm not a huge rose fan anyways. Like most of lush's perfumes its very fresh, like a spring morning when the garden is covered in dew. I would recommend definitely trying it beforehand as can see why it would not be everyone's cup of tea, and for me personally is not for everyday wear as it can be overpowering. One spray is enough and you'll still be smelling it hours later.

Flower's Barrow from Lush holds a special place in my heart. If you loved the original Aveda Chakra Blend II Attraction, you'll also love this. They are both heavy on the geranium, and I would say Flower's Barrow has more sunshine streaming through the whole composition, and Aveda's Attraction is a little darker. But I save the Aveda for special occasions since it's so hard to find now, and love wearing Flower's Barrow more during the day. It has a hazy sultriness to it, and it is geranium centered, but I can still smell the whole blend of notes of rose, thyme, and sage. Very unique and the splash bottle works wonderfully for this scent.

I don't know why but everytime i wear this fragrance, it gave me something almost like a sad feeling. it must be the prim and serious geranium. the blackberries and thorny roses only accentuate the contrast. When taking a stroll on a vast grass field studded with little white chamomiles, smelling all those sweet wild bushes and shrubs that are flowering vehemently, their scents cannot hide wholly what has been lying underneath, smoke seeping through ancient rock stumps, the traces of human civilization that's been long abandoned and forgotten, which has now become history. beautiful.

This has been my work perfume for a few years now. I'm ready to change my work perfume... but am struggling to find a better fit than this! It smells just like the leaves of the lemon geranium (pelargonium) plants that I like to keep on the windowsills in my house, so when I spray it and walk through the cloud it's like I'm taking that smell of home with me to keep me grounded no matter how stressful the day is. In general I'm having trouble with Lush scents at the moment - a shame, since they're the reason I ever got any hope about perfume at all - but this one is love forever.

I don't usually post reviews, but I have to for this fragrance. What I smelled on paper and from the bottle were not necessarily an instant "love". However, after maybe 30 seconds of applying this, I recognized an old familiar smell - THRILLS gum, the soap gum. I've been walking around sniffing in the air all day. Glad I wasn't in my own neighborhood. I love it, now I think I'll go listen to my old Kiss, Cheap Trick and Bob Seger albums, and then I'll watch Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Song Remains the Same on video.

The so called 2nd generation of LUSH/Gorilla perfume has the worst bottle design ever. No sprayer is provided regardless of the size. Love this geranium bomb tho!

The name comes from the Iron Age hillfort, built over 2.500 years ago and located on the south coast of England. Flower's Barrow is another perfume that hit the market at the beginning of 2013, as part of the line of fragrances called "Volume 2" (released in 2012). Its fragrance is fresh and floral, with a hint of freshness from the region of Dorset on the English Channel coast. In its composition, we have notes of geranium oil, rose absolute, blackcurrant absolute, oil of Roman Chamomile, sage and thyme, as well as chemical compounds like Geraniol and Farnesol, which enhance the floral aspect, Limonene, etc. On the skin, Flower's Barrow is the most luminous among the Gorilla Perfume fragrances I ever met so far. I'm not saying that is ideal only for summer and hot days, but in my head, it conveyed to me the idea of a beautiful sunny day. Now, try to imagine a scent that possesses essential oil of geranium (which already has an aroma very similar to the roses) mixed to rose absolute? I know, you are thinking that this is a mega feminine fragrance that smells like roses, right? Wrong! Flower's Barrow is more than that. In its evolution, what prevails is a floral nuance of roses, which is very sharable. But the presence of Chamomile is vital in this composition because its herbal and slightly bitter smell persists and creates a balance with the roses. And we still have the acidity-fruity of the blackcurrant and an aromatic touch, which appears after a few minutes of application. Unfortunately, for being more "luminous", also gives me the feeling that exudes less, evaporating faster when compared to other creations of the House, which are extremely strong. But the durability and quality remain the same. I can say that Flower's Barrow is the kind of scent that should be sold in bottles of 300ml because pleases the whole family. It's delicious, joyful, and different!

Lush is all about love, and even in the midst of simplicity, it manages to create something complex that leaves us with our chins on the floor full of questioning. Flower's Barrow is the accurate description of what I try to say after feeling and living, even after a blind! When I talk about simplicity, don't think that it's something common or that you can easily please at first, no, because when it comes to Lush, the hole is deeper. It opens very heavy with the note of Geranium, and brings a superb aspect of quality cleaning product, draws praise all around; it is bitter and voluptuous. Next, it becomes a wild infusion of Sage and Thyme as a preparation for a ritual bath where herbs with characteristic odors are used and their ingredients swim on the surface of the aromatic preparation. No innocent or naive flowers, they are unusual and haughty flowers. The currant appears at the end, like a heavy syrup and has leaves tied in the middle and the return of the Geranium note, making a slightly sweet background, only in a different way, escaping beaten gourmand aspects, something beautiful and unique. Delighted with Lush's indie quality, and no wonder; I'm a fan of this English House and I ask her to marry me every time I go there! It fixes and projects a lot, draws praise and makes those who use it linearly happy and self-confident, only!

If you like rose and geranium, this is a good choice, but be warned - it smells almost like a rose geranium oil, very linear without much else going on. I detect some light chamomile - very tea like - as well, which is not included in the ingredient list. I don't detect blackcurrant or sage, which is a shame as sage can ground floral perfumes quite nicely. I loved this when I smelt it in the store, and it was still enjoyable to wear (I had a 100ml bottle) but my enthusiasm wore of somehow. I'm not sure whether I'd purchase this again, I'd probably go for Rose Jam instead for my dose of rosey sweetness. I got a lot of compliments from other women while wearing this. All in all, it's a decent perfume that is not unusual for Lush. If you like Rose Jam, or some of their more floral creations, like Lust, this might be your thing.

Opens smelling kind of minty, but not in a chewing gum way. I'm not actually that familiar with geranium as the ones in my garden are scentless, but I think that must be the geranium. There's plenty of rose, but it's not overwhelming or 'granny-ish'. It has a nice sweetness, but I can't say I really get the black current. As it wears the thyme comes through, giving it a little depth but not overwhelming it. Overall I really like this, it's very wearable and comforting. It projects and lasts well. It doesn't quite replace The Bug as my favourite, but it's certainly the next best LUSH scent I've tried.

Chilly, haunting and atmospheric; after a wonderful discussion with the lovely ladies at Lush, I decided this one reminded me of abandoned churches, bare barron landscapes and oddly enough, the Swedish landscape in Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal. Very unusual - I cannot pick out individual notes in this as I usually can in fragrances, but this is a very well blended fragrance which conjures up magical mystical images...finding out the inspiration from this since in the description only adds to the wonder of this fragrance.

I really enjoyed this when I tried it, even if my boyfriend said it smells of some specific homeopathic herbal cream. It's all about geranium but in a pleasant natural, herbal direction. Projection is good, not too strong or light. Somehow I associate the scent with grandmothers and a healthy farmlife. There is something very nostalgic, romantic and idyllic - and, I guess, totally feminine and nourishing - about it which I find lovely and would like to experience again.

I like the freshness and the herbious scent of the perfume but on my perfume locket. My body kind of absorb the fragrance like a thirsty person draining the glass of water. But to be fair, I am having flu today. So my review isn't the best at time. Update: Still love this perfume after so long.

A very interesting rose perfume. The geranium adds an earthy edge to this scent, which makes it feel gothy, dark and mysterious. I wish it lasted a bit longer, it doesn't have the same staying power on me like most other Lush perfumes.

Geranium, Rose & Blackcurrant. Yum, yum & yum! This smells like a walk past a wildflower hedgerow by a field after a summer downpour of rain. Lush also have a shampoo called 'Blousey' with the same scent.

Nice scent. Really a blast of rose with the geranium close on its heels. Love to get a real geranium fragrance.

Straight up Geranium essential oil

Its geranium heavy. Geranium has a tendency to swamp all other notes and this happens here too. A little bit of softness and smokiness at the base helps though and traces of the aromatic herbs linger in the periphery. Unisex in my opinion. No wow factor for me but still, quite a unique combination that has its place. Wonder what would happen if I added some lavender hmm....

I've got a small spray of this, I liked it in the shop and geranium was a scent I loved. This I find difficult. Some days I find it quite pleasant, others (and this will sound silly) I find this kicks something off in the pit of my stomach, almost anxiety inducing. I realize that sounds odd, it's the best way I can describe it. I've been trying this fragrance often but I think it's going to have to go, I'm finding it quite headachy too. If anyone wants to swap me for a sample of anything Diptyque or Byredo then do let me know (if that's even possible). I also have Sikkim Girls to go too.

I wanted to like this scent. Unfortunateley all i get on my skin is nauseating geranuim oil and a little black currant/rose. real herbs i like but i have yet to find a perfume that does them justice... on my skin anyway.

75yo grandma in the bottle, i dont know what i was thinking buying this but it is such an overpowering rose and geranium so velvety, too powdery, i really do not how to layer it, it is unwearable for me, too heavy

I do believe this fragrance smells completely different on everyone who tries it, which means you will have to brave the olfactory bombardment that is a Lush store! But do, and do try this and the other perfumes in the series. If you have a store handy, run in, try and Gorilla perfume, run out and see how it develops on you throughout the day. I bet you will find something surprising that you come to love. Lush's creators and noses, Mark and Simon Constantine, really are out and out rebels and geniuses. What you will get is a fragrance with very good quality ingredients. So back to Flower's Barrow. On me, this has an initial lemony, almost citronella smell, not unpleasant. This fades down into a wonderfully complex soup of herby smells, of which my nose cannot pick out dominant notes! It's evolution through time is quite profound as it changes so much from start to long finish. I wear this perfume for any occasion, day or night. This fragrance is subtle, not overpowering, complex, grown up and sophisticated. Stale perfume can sometimes smell quite horrible, but I love catching the old smell of this on, say, a scarf I've worn. It makes me run upstairs and put some one! I adore Flower's Barrow and wear it a lot. I love almond fragrances (I am still searching for the almond 'one' that lasts) and detest floral fragrances so this one is a real departure from the norm for me. I think I will wear this fragrance forever.

The Lush store always smells overwhelming, so when I passed by it earlier, I just had to go in. Gorilla perfumes always aim to be unique and unlike any other. Flower's Barrow is no exception.Lush fragrances, it seems aim to let you picture a scene, they seem to be able to bottle places. Flower's Barrow reminds me of the train ride I had across Europe last Spring-- Windows down, the aroma of grass and flowers on a windy day. This is one fragrance that evokes a sense of adventure. This is my first herbal perfume. One where ingredients are few (I can actually understand what's on the ingredient list!) It is a minty floral, rose and geranium grounded by black currant. Fresh, yet surprisingly complex. This is unlike any other fragrance in my collection (I have around 70!). Totally wearable--the sillage is moderate, it won't suffocate those around you. The lasting power is amazing,due to the high concentration of essential oils. The only downside is that it has no sprayer, i had to buy a sprayer, immediately after i purchased my 30 ml bottle of this wonderful scent.

I'm on the fence with this one. Like many of the other offerings from Gorilla Perfume, Flowers Barrow comes packaged with an extremely intriguing description and backstory. And even more so for me personally, after more than one reviewer likened it to the gorgeous, haunting Swedish film that is the Seventh Seal. I was sold before I tried it, especially as a lover of dark berries such as black currant. Unfortunately too much of the promised atmosphere is sacrificed in place of sheer sweetness. I'm all for wearing whatever you want regardless of gender, but Flowers Barrow is 110 percent feminine on my skin. Too much for my liking, and even as the juice evolves, the sweetness doesn't budge. Basically it's a geranium bomb. Make no mistake, it's a very pretty scent with a pleasant herbal quality, but at the end of the day I don't see a guy pulling this off. And that's fine really. I'm just a bit disappointed because the description really lured me in. If only their perfumiers were as good as their writers.

This is hands down THE BEST and TRUEST rose geranium perfume out there and I have tried so many- Frederic Malle, Miller Harris, Parfums de Nicolai etc! I dabble with therapeutic grade essential oils and have always wanted a perfume based on rose geranium whose scent I adore much more than roses and I can say that I have finally found it! Flower's Barrow does the rose geranium justice. It does not try to tweak or "control" it or even gender it like many perfumers do even with their unisex offerings. Geranium, like lavender, is wonderful, complex and GENDERLESS in nature. This perfume respects rose geranium, accepts every facet of this plant and allows it to shine. If you love geranium, especially the rose geranium variety, you have to try this. This refreshing scent is herby, spicy, aromatic and slightly floral (just like the real thing) with some bubbly semi-sweet blackcurrants thrown in. It has moderate silage and amazing lasting power!

I really really wanted to love this but I can’t. I work with a lot of essential oils, and this fragrance smells like 100% geranium essential oil on me. I do like the scent of geranium EO, I just wasn’t expecting it when I sprayed this fragrance on me. This was a blind buy because I love Lush and I love florals and Lush doesn’t usually create soliflore scents, but geranium soliflore is what this smells like to me. I must also note that I do believe a large reason why I am not in love with this fragrance is because I use geranium EO frequently in other applications so perhaps it just doesn’t smell special to me anymore. Others might find Flowers Barrow more novel than I and love it!

I can see where someone would compare this to Diptyque Geranium Odorata. But, I prefer the Diptyque over this one because it is somehow sweeter to my nose. There’s something a little bitter or acrid in the top notes of this one. On first spray I get that bitter acrid note, then about 10 min later it morphs in to mostly geranium and some rose. I could see this working well on a man. However, it’s not overly masculine and would suit a woman too. I agree that is really is a geranium edc as someone else wrote. My best advice on this is if you like scented geraniums, and wish to smell like a live scented geranium plant, then this is for you.

Got a chance to smell this tonight. My coworker applied it to her wrist, and she said fragrances always get sweeter on her skin, more sugary. This was true, that it was even sweeter on her, but even smelling it out of the bottle, on its own, Flower's Barrow is moderately sweet. It definitely also smells like Blousey, the shampoo! Also, I guess I just haven't learned what geranium smells like enough to distinguish it in a complex fragrance, but I can attest to blackcurrant and rose in this, and an undertone of chamomile, too.

This perfume opens with a powdery rose and blackcurrant on me, but then dries down into a very warm Roman Chamomile, as a previous poster mentioned above. It's an unusual scent that I like, but perhaps one that I wouldn't wear every day or to formal events. There's something comforting and familiar about this scent that is perhaps more suited to a day spent outdoors, where you can catch whiffs of the scent on the breeze, I find that wearing it indoors is sometimes a bit too much for me.

It is mostly geranium, but it's certainly not only geranium as some are claiming. It is sweet but the sweetness is actually very muted compared to the geranium, and certainly in comparison to most other Lush perfumes, nothing remotely close to something like The Comforter for example. I love it, but I love geranium in general.

the geranium and herbal character in this is just too strong for me. i love rose and blackcurrant, but they are merely in the background of this scent. it's almost pure thyme and geranium on me, and i'm not a huge fan of herbal scents, so this doesn't work for me personally, but i am glad i got to try more lush scents!

There is one note that isn't mentioned in the database: Roman Chamomile Oil, and that 's the note that's dominant after the drydown on my skin.The opening is very smoky, like a lot of the new gorilla perfumes, but after the drydown there is a nice soft chamomile-with-rose-scent.

-Opens rather pungent and predominantly masculine. Stunk a bit tbh. -Dries down nice and luxurious smelling.. not like perfume but more like the potpourri spray you'd find in an upscale restaurant's bathroom. (-)

On me: blackcurrant, a hint of thyme, and a bucket of disappointment. I really, really wanted to love this but it just makes me feel a little ill. :(

The best of the new Gorilla Perfumes. This is a beautiful rose geranium scent which reminds me of long gone rose geraniums (such as Floris).

According to Lush website it has chamomile not sage..
