Icon

The small black tube is rather unassuming, yes, Plain and simple among glittering glass bottles and flashy flagons. But the emollient smooth dark plum/gray solid perfume inside is a pretty one in scent, if not in sight. Thoroughly unisex, this is a composition of chewy orange blossoms around their barely ripe fruit, just a hint of their mandarin luminescence glowing at the beginning. Oily Bergamot smoother than the tea gives way to a cozy old floorboard of sandalwood in a slow dry down. But from start to finish, Icon is draped in a rich cloud of sweet Myrrh. I will keep this one to cooler days, for in liquid and solid form the flaming myrrh can become unbearable with crazy throw on a warm breeze. This little bugger can easily induce a headache if over applied. A male friend described me smelling as a "sexy candle", unaware of the Icon dabbed on my wrist. It reminds me of something Edgar Allan Poe would have in his study as the fire flickered ominously throwing towering shadows from his overstuffed armchair. Or the silence of that very old Catholic Church during Lent at spring with the convent orchard throwing life through the stained glass of the hallowed holy halls. Regardless, I always rub a little on my wrists before bed to sleep well. I believe that while smelling good is a key motivation for wearing perfume, sometimes I just want to experience a scent all for myself with it's significance. It may not be the fruity/gourmand/floral mix everyone seems to love in pure (and often synthetic) gilded affections, but Icon is a comforting scent to me that is a reminder that sometimes a little olfactory synesthesia is fine. This is my Icon.

This isn't just for the ladies.. I prefer rich spicy/woody/resin or leather filled scents like ELD'O's Rien, Gucci Pour Homme (the Tom Ford edition), YSL's M7, Pd'E's Cuir Ottoman...and older scent-bomb standards like Dior's Fahreheit (original and Absolut), Lauder's JHL and Montana's Parfum d'Homme. 'ICON' is a very simple blend, with the orange blossom absolute and bergamot/Sicilian mandarin oils totally keeping the combination of myrrh and sandalwood oil in check and balanced. It more that holds it's own with any scent that I've listed above. I still have a 7/8's full rectangular bottle with purple label and gold cap that I bought around 2001. Age only makes it more dense/deep....and better. Only one major caveat with 'ICON':- before you get dressed, hold the bottle as far as possible over your head and spray ONLY ONCE!. Even one spritz will stay with you and all around you for MANY hours. Just be prepared to have random people follow/stop you and ask what you're wearing.

I have an unhappy history with Lush perfumes - I want to like them and I usually don't. Icon is the exception. It comes on with a bitter citrus-oil hit, reminiscent of a very good candied grapefruit peel where the sugar mellows but does not dominate. Then the neroli washes over, supported, I think, by the mandarin which seems to flesh it out without undermining the essential floral quality. Normally I like my nerolis to scintillate, but this one glows warmly until the sandalwood comes through to take it along to a slow, warm, elegant drydown enriched with myrrh. I don't know about Byron, but I like it. It has a curious archaic flavour to me, like a breath from the ancient world. Self-esteem in a bottle.

I recently purchased The Perfume People's version of this & have to say I am in love with it! Cannot get enough of it! Cannot stop wearing it! I prefer it to the original one, which I owned & sold on! That must say something! But I still enjoyed the original, just not enough to keep it. TPP version is now my signature perfume, I wouldn't be without it! Last for hours & is absolutely beautiful! Somehow, in this, I have found 'me', if that makes any sense! Myrrh, Sandalwood, Bergamot, Mandarin, Orange Blossom...... A most magical & mystical combination that is breathtakingly stunning!

This is the deep, dark and extremely naughty 'goth' scent that I've been hankering after all my life. This smells like a niche offering rather than a Lush product at a reasonable cost. This is rich beyond belief, and heady with a big note of a civet like substance in the base, making it dirty and clean-earthy. It has a nice slight sweetness which is more a hum than a shout of 'feminine!'. To be worn for intimate moments and rituals, if you have any....Wow. Thanks Mark and Simon Constantine!

Icon is a bit much, but honestly I consider that one of its best qualities. It's great for when you need a confidence boost or to kick open the doors in a saloon, but in a refined, decadent sort of way. There's a lot of heat in this fragrance, and it can fill the room if you're not temperate with it.

This is probably my favorite scent of all time. It's unique and unlike anything I've ever smelled. It smells like a church courtyard with orange trees in it, at night, and there are vampires. That's the only way I can describe it.

Wow!!! How gorgeous is this! It's beeautiful! Oh I love it!! Such beautiful incense!!! It's divine. So lovely and sweet, so smooth and creamy, sharp and fresh, soft and delectable. Divine!!!

this is me ALL TIME FAVORITE perfume; I absolutely concur with the Lush summation of it as Byronesque.It's orangey (but not in a cheap teen way like Karma), exotic, lovely

To me it smells very much like rich cola sweets. I don't know how it's possible, but it really does. Love it.

Hunted this one down for my sister and it is definitely in the scent family she loves to douse herself in. It's nice and sophisticated in a heady sort of way. Myrrh and a bit of citrus... and I keep getting hints of cedar along with sandalwood, but that's probably just the sweetness of it messing with me. A pretty scent that does bear resemblance to Tom Ford's "Sahara Noir," just with a hint of something white floral that I'm not really fond of...guessing it's the African Orange Flower. It's heavy and makes my head feel muddled, so not for me, but perfect for the "LOOK AT ME" one. I bet the Mr. Meseeks smells like this... It sorta reminds me of the "Frankincense & Myrrh" Zum products. Just a lot more spicy and sandalwood-y.

This is such an interesting scent to me. Unisex for sure. I bought this years ago and only use it once, maybe twice a year. It’s dark and incensey and “goth vibes” all day. I normally wear gourmands in cold weather, but I reserve this for when I’m alone and want to do spellwork or just reflect and write. This isn’t one that will draw my boyfriend to me like a magnet; this is one for me and me only. I use it so rarely that I’m surprised it isn’t rancid by now, but it has aged beautifully. It was a blind buy, and I hated it at first. It almost has a licorice quality to it, which I detest, but for whatever reason it grew on me and now I’m happy to own this.

I wasn't sure about this at first. I found it a bit too sharp and incense-heavy, like an old church. Six months on and my perception of it has completely changed. Either that or the actual composition of the perfume has altered over time, but it seems much smoother, deeper and richer, with the myrrh and orange blossom beautifully blended. It is a dark, warm, intense scent for sure. A beautiful accompaniment for meditation or creative work. I totally get the Byronesque vibe!

Lush Icon is a unique, very unisex fragrance. To me, the opening is equal parts frozen lemonade & incense. Drydown is a warm, sweet myrrh with the citrus slightly toned down. I enjoy the bitterness bergamot lends. This is not the generic bergamot note found in 9 out of 10 fragrances. This is bergamot in syrup, not that faint Earl Grey tea note found in such fragrances as Manifesto.

I so wanted this to work on my skin, but sadly it didn't :( It smells amazing on my friend though! So don't be put off, just wasn't for me. It is a very emotive and dark scent. Would suit 'gothy' types or 'rockers' IMO. THIS IS A GREAT DUPE FOR SAHARA NOIR BY TOM FORD!

It's cola with citrus peels, and some quite potent ones, at that! For me it's slightly more masculine than I expected. Not for me, but seems like a nice enough of a scent.

Revisiting this. Sickly. Extremely sweet and peppery. The patchouli here is nice though. One thing Lush do manage to achieve is a nice, earthy patchouli. One dimensional and sickly. Smells warm and sharp on my male best friend, cold and sharp on me. More subdued on him. Powerhouse on me. Don't think I'm ever going to "come around" to appreciating this. Smells a bit better when I convince myself I'm smelling sweet pastry, like a Bakewell tart. Is what it is I guess.

I was wooed by the citrus / resin notes and looked forward to trying this. I was wrong. So very wrong. Unpleasant, metallic orange, the kind you get in own-label sugar free orange squash assaulted me and did not let go. Horrible, horrible. The other notes are non-existent for me. Nul points!

Another lush perfume that does not suit my fancy. I had hoped for more orange blossom and les mirrh and sandalwood. Manny scents with sandalwood are very tempramental on me. they work some times but most of the time they do not.

This was a blind-buy and I was crazy excited about it. Now, all I can say is... it smells like Jesus' feet and dusty books. Not really my thing, but I keep it because it is really interesting!
