No Way To Say Goodbye

This has become an instant-classic in my rotation. I still can't decide if I like it more than Space Girl (therefore landing it in my top 5 fragrances of all time, of any brand) but it is HEAVENLY!!! No Way to Say Goodbye does indeed smell a little bit like the Comforter, a little bit like Amelia Mae, but also in the dry down reminds me of American Cream just a smidge. It starts off with a blast of mouth-watering (I mean this literally lol) jammy blackcurrant that lacks the acidity/sharpness it often has - which is present in the Comforter - and lifted slightly by the rose which is reminiscent of Amelia Mae (as the reviewer below says, just swap raspberry for blackcurrant). After a half hour or so the benzoin starts to creep in and mingle with that initial fruity blast, and to me the benzoin reads super buttery and savoury! Like slathering jam on a freshly baked croissant. And that leads me to my next point - I can't access Snif here in the UK but I'm eagerly awaiting this getting into Americans' hands because I am SOOOOOO curious to know if this is at all similar to Crumb Couture! Will my FOMO finally be laid to rest?!? But to get back on topic - about 5 hours in the fruitiness is completely gone and all that's left is a delicious vanilla-like scent, and it's here I'm somewhat reminded of the silky deliciousness of the vanilla found in American Cream (try to imagine it without the lavender and clary sage). As the cherry on top of this delicious baked delight, this is priced the same as Sun (£20/30ml, £40/100ml), AKA their cheapest offering!!! This is simply unbeatable in price ESPECIALLY for this level of quality - a very realistic fruity gourmand that you'd usually have to pay top dollar for. If you're within the UK (we don't have many options here for truly high quality 'fumes at an affordable price point) I think you would be hard pressed to find something of this calibre at this price elsewhere!

syrupy blackcurrant bares a resemblance to rose jam. it’s so sweet and refreshing i love it! update: i ended up ordering it a week later because i couldn’t stop thinking about it i now have it and the one i got is more lemony thanks to the litsea cubeba but it’s still jammy, sweet and floral. i have the rose jam solid perfume i think these would go great together because nwtsg has that extra hit of jammy sweetness whilst rose jam leads more marmalade. i love this perfume can’t wait to wear it all the time especially now spring is around the corner :) as it dries down it smells like that one sweet grandmas have where the wrapper is like a strawberry (red with white spots and green at the top) but the flavour is blackcurrant, it smells almost identical to that lol it’s still really nice

It starts out juicy blackcurrant, then turns fruity/floral. It very much smells like 'Junk' without the herbal, almost cough-sweet dry down at the end. Instead, it turns powdery. Pretty frustrating to see LUSH keep doing very similar fragrances (it's been a while since something has blown my socks off!), however, I love Junk and I was always wishing for a version like this. At £20 for a 30ml bottle I couldn't say no. It's a light perfume that I'd wear in the day - most likely Spring and Summer. Personally, this also smells like a modern LUSH shop to me (I know '29 High Street' is described as a LUSH shop but I think that's the old school version of LUSH). It's simple and not overpowering, it's just very pretty!

This is a very gothic smell to me. It smells like the tombs in a Minster. It's very sweet when you first spray it. As it settles, it dries down into a very sour, murky blackcurrent smell, which I personally love but can see others despising it. It's completely different to anything I've ever smelt at Lush as I feel like they focus on very sweet and overpowering scents a lot of the time, which makes sense as one of their most popular selling scents is snow fairy (which I hate tbh). As I smell it more, it smells exactly like when you'd rub your fingers on a blackcurrent bush leaf and there's that very earthy smell. It's a gorgeous perfume and I'm very happy it's in my collection.

I created an account on fragrantica because of this smell. It's like walking through a beautiful sunny garden in early summer when blaccurrant is ripe and wild roses bloom. On the dry-down you also get this beautiful buttery resinous smell that reminds me of a blackcurrant pie crust. This smelled fresh to me at first but now I get the gourmand notes too and it is even better! Tbh I think the people who smell this and think of cat pee just never smelled or tasted raw blackcurrant :D And I say this as someone who also has cats. If you know and love blackcurrant, you will love this I promise. An underrated gem from Lush indeed. I love it forever and always <3

An amazing price for the performance. No Way To Say Goodbye is a perfume with green color similar to scents like Junk or The Comforter. It stars with a bubblegum/vape accord that is not overwhelmingly sweet but rather unique. Really fruity, almost innocent. The drydown has a floral twist, think rose but subtle rose that is not powdery nor stealing the spotlight of the other notes. A classic oriental vibe in the background. I must say the staying power is excellent. It lasts for 10 hours on my skin and the sillage is great as well. All the new perfumes from 2024 perform really well. I‘m a guy and I definitely consider it to be unisex.

Really wanted to love this, but I am unsure. I purchased the solid perfume and I think that may be why I’m not as in love as I thought I would be. Sillage is pretty poor, and longevity is so short (did not survive the 2hr drive home.) However the scent is beautiful! It opens with the delicious fruity black current note on me and then settles into a really deep, sweet, soft and earthy rose with a hint of the litsea I believe. The benzoin really adds another level to this and gives it such beautiful depth. I hate rose scents on my skin (pulls very soapy.) but this I love!!! Hoping to try the spray to see if sillage changes!

One of the prettiest, brightest and photorealistic blackcurrants I have ever smelled. They are so tasty, yet it is not a gourmand. Out of others blackcurrants by Lush It is not as sweet as Comforter and not minty as Junk ( Junk is more plant itself, leaves, stems etc). I Am from those lucky ones who never gets any bodily fluids smells from blackcurrants, apart of this slightly tart, yet sweet, dark berry. It always gathers compliments and raises curiosity, people are positively loving it. I feel warmth of a stewed jam from this juice and it lasts forever. Total must have and mood lifter for me.

I like this one a lot! I had a different perfume in mind when visiting the lush store, but after sniffing all of them this was the only one I went "oh this is good!" on the first sniff. To be fair I love fruity and tart perfumes, and this one opens very bright and fruity. Its quite sweet and I do see some people disliking it because of its black currant note, but personally, I'm a big fan. It can feel a bit sharp and sour at first, but it dries down to a softer fruity floral scent. I also find the longevity to be great on me, I can still smell it after 6-7 hours.

I love Lush, but in a country where wearing strong scents in public is considered offensive, my bottles last forever. Not with this one, not because it's not strong, but because who doesn't like the smell of blackcurrant juice! This smells like caramel in my mouth. Hehe. I can't find that sharpness here what some blackcurrant scents have. So I don't understand the references to cat pee. I think the green elements here are very well balanced with the jammyness. This is definitely the easiest to wear from my Lush collection.💜

Reminds me of purple Starburst or Skittles. Very fruity with a vague, yet strong, sweetness to it. The sillage and longevity of the solid stick form aren't great, but the liquid is so much stronger— I tried it on last night and woke up this morning still smelling decently of it. I put more on this morning and my friend immediately commented on it the minute I walked into her room.

I 100% got the cat urine blast with the tester in store but bought the 30ml anyway. It’s clearly a batch issue because my purchase is perfectly clean and beautiful. My husband says it reminds him of some lolly (maybe blackcurrant pastilles?). I totally get the rose note on the dry-down. It’s gorgeous. For UK and Australian noses, prepare for blackcurrant nostalgia!

This is blackcurrant jam ! I have this parfum, I’m wearing it almost everyday and @fragrantica please delete the comments that refers to pee because it’s not true and clearly this are super hateful reviewers. Gosh! It smells so good and people around me likes it and some want to have a bottle too. It’s a strong blackcurrant jam , something rare this days

I didn't think I'd like this one because I find The Comforter a bit meh & I can be quite fussy with blackcurrant & fruity scents in general. I unexpectedly really like this & at £40 for 100ml, it's a great deal. This is a tart, rich & slightly medicinal blackcurrant & is less sweet than The Comforter. It smells like blackcurrant Lemsip - in a good way.

I smelled this at Lush and immediately loved it. Sprayed it on a tester, and kept whiffing it. I actually originally went to buy Rose Jam and I ended up leaving with both. This perfume is beautiful and very berry sweet. Just not for me personally, I will be returning. Great for winter and spring.

I absolutely love this scent! It reminds me a lot of these lemon toffees called 'FOX' that I used to eat when I was younger, they no longer sell them at my local supermarket so I haven't had any in years but this instantly transported me back to my childhood!

This is a blackcurrant bomb! On my skin, it’s getting more clear and natural blackcurrant. Now I have two hours of wearing it and it’s a clear natural blackcurrant. I bought 100ml and I’m going to wear it all this winter. It’s very rare and beautiful

Beautiful and jammy and slightly lactonic I love how you can smell how sticky and sweet the jam is but then you can smell the buttery milky pastry it’s like how I would envision a medieval blackberry pie would smell like instant love

This is a very lush type of fragrance which is very multilayered I’d say mix of junk and confetti? Really cannot stop smelling it. Kind of a pity that the longevity is on the low side. Amazing price. Definitely recommend.

Very sweet and jammy. TBH it strangely reminds me of nyquil LOL. If you are familiar with Lush's other fragrances the best way I can describe it is if Rose Jam and The Comforter had a baby...

I smelled this in-store at Lush, and I loved how fruity and jammy it was, but I wasn't sure then if I wanted to spend so much money on it. Then, weirdly, at work a few days later, someone walked past me smelling like blackcurrant juice, and it smelled so good I ended up being won over. I ordered No Way To Say Goodbye online soon after. What I smelled at work reminded me of Ribena (the blackcurrant drink), and, oddly, made me crave it for several days after, as I waited for my perfume to arrive in the mail. I have never had this happen with a fragrance before. I have been through several bottles of Ribena since... The name of this fragrance makes me feel very sentimental and endeared towards it. I feel like it's altered my perception of it in a noticeable way, although I do think I would have still bought it had it been named "Blackcurrant Jam" or something instead. More than anything, this smells like blackcurrant juice or jam. I have never had the real berries before, so these are my closest points of reference. It also has a lemony tartness to it, and a sort of gummy candy quality. However, sometimes when I apply it, it has a bizarre straw- or hay-like smell to it. Something difficult to place, animalic, and perhaps "staticky"? It feels like TV static appears between my nose and the smell of the blackcurrants. Not cat urine, though, as some reviewers have called it. It's more like how I would imagine it would feel to eat hay, while also having your tongue numb and tingly, as if you are allergic to said hay... I really don't know what to think of this one. It's definitely worth the price, as it is a very unique scent and it is probably the longest-lasting fragrance I own, but it is no doubt strange and, deservedly, divisive. I would highly recommend testing it out and seeing if you like it!

LUSH has a penchant for the cloying, and No Way To Say Goodbye is no different - its house's almost too-loyal approach to natural oil blends has left many a perfume enjoyer wheezing. It opens with a burst of dark blackcurrant, a raw berry under the molar, a face pushed uncomfortably into the spines of its plant. There's no jamminess to it, only a hint of sweetness that rolls around the mouth like a stray seed. However, it almost immediately gives way to this herbal, buttery undertone on me that I can't say I adore. It's uncomfortably warm, a tad too savoury, a spoiled blackberry juice. After a few minutes, it's all I can smell, and I imagine the texture of butter and oil on my skin. The blackcurrant is extinguished under the blur of savoury herbs. With how tart and fresh blackcurrant glows, the warmth of the undertone is a nasty contrast. Admittedly I am not a lover of warmth and musk, instead preferring fresh and fruity perfumes, but I find myself perplexed by it. It smells just like every other LUSH perfume. It's got the most wonderful blackcurrant note in anything I've experienced save for the real thing. The herbal butter is dreadfully unpleasant. And yet, it's undeniable how much I like it still. I got into the car with my father after several months of not being in each other's presence and he instantly asked me where the blackcurrant was from, even though I myself could no longer smell it. Perhaps my dislike of the undertone is clouding my judgement. It's whimsical yet savoury, bizarre yet standard, cloying yet fresh. It's nothing special, but it's everything to me and those others who just can't understand it.

Juicy bitter berry opening with something I cannot place..the berry scent never quite leaves, just add a touch of rose and something vanillic to my nose in the drydown, which is the best. I use this over a strawberry lotion or vanilla lotion for day ..Also smells incredible over my patchouli lotion, which I use at night. It has that Lush DNA which I adore and have for almost 2 decades. I don't think this is a safe blind buy..please test it to see how it smells on you. I will say the price is very reasonable for such a pretty scent. EDIT,- The more I wear it, the more I like it. Kinda obsessed with it. Wore it over a true Vanilla scented lotion and it's just so good. Not like any other perfume I have, which is a very large collection.

literally smells like haribo jelly beans. like a sweet sticky jelly bean with its hard sugar layer cracked, revealing a gooey and annoyingly sticky interior. i'd say it resembles the purple jelly bean. very fun and cute and girly and pleasant, but not for me, as I prefer scents a bit more composed. this, like many lush fragrances, feels raw, present, unapologetic and intriguing, almost unfinished but in a good way. it also has some herbal nuances at the bottom of it, something cooling and fresh, minty. i would say it's quite a safe lush composition. 3.8/5 for me.

This smells like good medicated cough syrup on me. The drydown is a resinous rose with the blackcurrant-flavored cough syrup. Longevity isn't amazing but I get where the deep jammy accord comes in, it just doesn't stray from that medicinal, slightly bitter base. It's a like, not a love. It's actually a little reminiscent of La Fille De Berlin from Serge Leutens, but not as strong or as well-rounded. LFDB is a dark metallic rose, but NWTSG is a medicinal cough syrup rose. If you like absinthe or malört and don't mind a jammy undertone, you should try this.

I had to buy this. I just love blackcurrant. It's my favourite berry ever and unfortunately it's fairly uncommon in north America. I ended up at the Lush store and found out a little bottle of this juice. So it is fairly straight blackcurrant jam to me. I like it, easy to wear, just lovely. On my skin it becomes quite jammy and sweet but the berry remains in the background. I'm thinking about getting the solid perfume as well for the complete blackcurrant experience :)

Ooh its lovely! For me, mainly litsea cubeba with a little something that I could not entirely put my finger on until reading the description and finding out its the combination of black currant and rose which somehow create this juiciness on top of the happy citrus like litsea. Its quite unique, juicy, happy, little bit sweet but with a tiny bit of spritz on top. Lush fragrances are so underrated - this is just such joy.

Initially bright and sweet like a purple Lifesaver pastille. After a few hours and some sweat, the rose note really comes through and transforms it into a more delicate and aromatic blackcurrant rather than a candy-like one. I really like this scent, but my nose is really sensitive to rose notes and they tend to make me feel nauseous after a while. Really unfortunate for me because this scent is so pretty.

Purchased in the Vancouver BC shop. Sniffing off a paper blotter, it was very sharp currant with even a more bitter bite like juniper berry, but it also hinted at saltiness. On skin, the rose and currant syrup is sweeter than on paper, and matched by salty/buttery facet. I told the sa that it was giving buttermilk pancakes with syrup. Had to buy as I don't have a rose like this.

This smells like a ripe, juicy blackcurrant to me - or even like Ribena. I didn't get anything medicinal from it all personally. I really enjoyed the scent, it has pretty good sillage and ok longevity (4-6h) on me but unfortunately, I'm allergic to something in this one and had to give it away.

So I don't know what to think about this one. I like it at first. It's a sweet blackcurrant that stays all through. But something happens during the dry down. I get a butter note, and it feels so misplaced. I have to think a bit more, and continue to smell the sample some more.

If you're familiar with Lush - this smells like The Comforter & Junk hooked up to have a love child. Yummy black currant with a very slight green edge (from the rose) Has the Lush DNA from the benzoin and litsea. I really like it! I swear there's a citrus note in there though!

yummy fruity fragrance, feels nostalgic it reminds me of opening a bag of lollies. pretty strong, I only did one spray on my wrist in the store and lasted for hours. One negative of this fragrance is that it doesn't smell very complex, so I'd prefer to layer it.

I have this in the solid version, which is jammier and more intimate than the spray. A friend sitting close byside me asked, "what is your wonderful shampoo? Why does it remind me of London?" A pint of cider and black under a cool sun.

When I first got it i liked it, but then someone pointed out that it smells like a vape and I can't think of anything else now, so I can't wear it lol.

Very fruity and floral, it reminds me of a certain fruit so strongly. Maybe guava? But the pee smell is there for sure. On skin it disappears, but so does the fruit which is heartbreaking. A bit genuinely upset at how good and fruity this could be if not for the pee. Edit: It was black currant (which I should’ve known but to be fair I have very limited experience with it (ie only in salads and gummies)). Just realized how true the name is, the way the black currant disappears on skin truly is No Way To Say Goodbye. Feels a bit anticlimactic, like a friendship that went wrong somewhere along the way. First, you reminisce. All the good moments (fruity), the bad (pee), and the enlightening. By the end of it, you kind of grown numb to it all and take what you can and move on. I’ll have to try it on skin again, if only to see if it works out.

I've tried the tester in the shop and I liked it a lot: pure blackcurrant with green leaves, first a little bit earthy and green and after that juicy and sweet/sour. My family always had a blackcurrant in the garden, we made both jam and tea with leaves, so the smell is very nostalgic to me. Another day I went to the different Lush shop and bought 30ml, checked it at home and the smell disappeared in 15-30 mins. I was very disappointed, it had no silage and no development from green to juicy as I've had on my skin from the tester. Not sure what cause that, maybe different batches :(

Not as good as it was in store. I should have got Junk instead. I won't return this though because the berry note will at least layer well with some other simple perfumes. The black current note is strong in the first 30 Minutes or so on me and really just smells like a berry electrolyte powder, after that it has a little more depth but not sweet enough for me to want to wear alone. My SO said it smells flowery but I didn't get any rose from this.

Gorgeous bittersweet blackberry scent. To me it smells kind of like a Lush shop itself. I love the opening but it goes strange and sour on my skin/clothes after a few hours. Maybe the trail in the air still smells fine - I got a compliment on it from the guy sitting next to me in my lecture, even though it smelled very odd on my jumper! - but it's unpleasant nose-to-wrist... such a shame since it starts out so lovely and unique.

I decided to try this as my favourite combination is benzoin with some sort of a fruit. The initial spray is nice and fruity, definitely smells like a blackcurrant. However on a dry down it smells like water in a vase that has been left unchanged for too long. I still use it as I really like the berry notes and will just hope that nobody notices the unpleasant note of the unchanged water.

Smells like a blackcurrant cough drop left in a hot room with incense. Can't decide if I actually like it or not, but I'm absolutely obsessed honestly. It layers well with other scents, I like it with "What would love do?", somehow the combo of cough drop + gingerbread feels very traditionally wintery.

A sweet, citrusy (orangey? lemony?) berry and rose with no hint of the underlying bitterness I was promised. It's nice enough and was a good introduction to litsea cubeba for me, and lingered at least 24 hours on my skin, but not full bottle worthy for me.

I blind bought this as a treat to myself and I hate it lol. It gives off a weird toothpaste smell. I was really hoping to like it. Smells fruity then seems toothpasty

i sprayed this onto me in a lush store before getting onto a bus without thinking and ended up regretting it. on card it was one of the only lush scents that really stood out to me as being unique so i wanted to try it on my skin. i feel that it's way too sour and lingers in a nauseating and uncomfortable way. i tend to gravitate towards scents that feel cocooning and cozy, and I knew from the black currant note that this would lean more extroverted and sharp that i'm normally comfortable with, but i didn't know that it would be the complete opposite of everything i want in a perfume, lol.
