The President's Hat

I did smell it at the launch and this is the one I instantly fell in love with. As for the notes, I smelled vanilla, labdanum, tons of oakmoss, spices, myrrh, some anise, and maybe tonka beans. The President's Hat is intensely resinous, balsamic, warm and smokey - a wonderfully comforting fragrance. The most striking quality of this perfume to me is that it has a very similar vibe to some vintage gems by Guerlain. Not necessarily the notes, rather it has the same "plush dark empty space" feel to it as Vol de Nuit for instance. It also has a dusty, lived in, almost dirty note, indeed as melting city snow on a winter coat (or hat, for that matter). It probably comes from patchouli, hence it is not human dirt, but earthy. I sprayed both my arms and I could smell it all day long, so both longevity and sillage are very good. I can't wait to go back to London and purchase it. Five stars from me! UPDATE: Which I did today (14/08) and LOVE it!!! 22/8 I am falling more and more in love with this little gem. In fact, it is more "related" to Mitsouko than VdN...for some reason this similee jumped into my mind one day: if Mitsouko is Karen Blixen from the movie "Out of Africa", then Denys Finch-Hatton is The President's Hat. I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone else than myself...:-)

The Presidents Hat, bence burada yazılan notalardan ibaret değil. Lavanta ağırlıklı bir losyon kullanan yaşlı bir siyasetçinin henüz kirlenmemiş temiz kumaş kokan şapka ile bu şekilde kokabilecegini düşünüyorum. Dedemin şapkaları biraz gül, biraz kumaş biraz da arko traş keremi kokardı. TPH klasik bir kıyafet içindeki 40-50 yaşlarındaki erkeğe yakisacaktir. Etrafa biraz eski-klasik havası verebilir ama kalitesi ile sorunsuz bir kullanım sağlar. Bu markanın tüm parfümleri ortalama kalıcılık ve koku dağılımına sahip. Zayıf değil, güçlü değil. Aslında biraz daha yoğun olması fena olmazdı. Bu marka Turkiye'de tutunamadı. Biraz fiyatlar biraz da genel beğeni peşindeki kitleyi çekemedi. Bunu zaten beklemezdim. Halen gidip bir çuval parayı saçma sapan "ünlü markalara" veren kitlenin bu parfümleri anlaması zor. Eğer yurtdisinda bir mağazasına denk gelirseniz " Smuggler's Soul" parfumunu de mutlaka deneyin. En popüler ürün Karma ama o da bana çok sıradan geliyor.

Such a shame they discontinued this, it’s my holy grail. Fragrantica has got the notes wrong, it’s a very natural patchouli fragrance with lots of oakmoss, a leathery labdanum note and a very prominent myrrh with sweetness from vanilla and some background spice and smoke. For me it’s the perfect autumn and winter scent, it’s earthy and outdoorsy but equally cosy and warm.

Very nice woody, myrrh and patchouli scent. Also some spicy anise ... and some floral geraniol. Opening is quite smoky, but the drydown is not, much more floral and a lot fresher (limonene?), after a few hours woody notes evolve a lot and get more and more prominent. Very pleasant! 87

Fragrantica notes listed above are not representative of the fragrance. This is a very spicy fragrance above all, with a certain tar like pungentness dominating and a bit of smokeyness in the periphery. Very warming and a bit raw. I don’t find it masculine at all, its more genderless if anything. Just enough sweetness (hint of vanilla) in the background to be able to handle the strong spice. I get cloves more than anything else, even though its not listed on the notes. Myrrh also which is always wonderful. Its surprisingly comfortable to wear considering how spicy it is. It somehow reminds me a bit of Fendi’s original Fendi, which would be a more commercial / synthetic version of the same idea. This is the fragrance equivalent of a thick wool coat in the winter, a little raw but ah so warm.

At first there is something very sharp and almost medicinal, and then it softens into a hazy room with a gentleman wearing a comfortable leather coat and a smart hat. Like Sir Patrick Stewart! He comes to mind when I smell this. Or perhaps the word "dapper." It seems like a very old-fashion "classic" scent. It's not a "me" scent, but I enjoy the experience of it. Definitely get oak and myrrh. Those always smell like people who have their shit together o.o

I feel a strong rosehip smell after a couple of minutes, not bad but it's not what I was expecting.

A comforting scent that drifts to the masculine, with enjoyable self-care vibes. Opens with oaky root-beer and a hit of patchouli, then settles into vanilla sweetened incense smoke. A bit of myrrh on the bottom gives a nice medicinal note in an indulgent healing way. Lasts for a good hour a foot off the hands, and two more close to the skin.

I agree with Ditta...I bought a bottle of this last week and instantly fell in love with it. It's a bit rough on the opening for me but soon settles to a warm spicy woody chypre like days of old. The dry down is the best and worth waiting for. It's so reminiscent of vintage Mitsouko!!! Yes I can just about remember it and the modern Mitsouko is a pale ghost of its former self.....still pretty but nothing like it was. It lasts at least 12 hours on my skin and over 2 days on clothes....it's a beauty and so inexpensive you can blind buy a small bottle online just for the experience of smelling real oak moss! Lush are brilliant in a way...they do some amazing things and take no notice it seems to me of the regulations of Europe. 5 stars for this one!

The President's Hat is named after a book by Antoine Laurain, about a magical black hat worn by President Francois Mitterrand, that happens to fall into the possession of an accountant. An intriguing scent, grounded and earthy, I smell primarily incense, woods and patchouli, balanced by a tiny hint of sweetness and the slightly waxy texture of myrrh. This is my favourite of Lush's current stable of scents (I also love Rose Jam and Lord of Misrule but they're not available anymore, unfortunately).

As with so many Lush fragrances I just cannot bear to ride out the first two hours to make it to the good bit. An absolutely vile opening turns into the intriguing scent of the inside of the closet that leads to Narnia. Woody, spicy pine notes and musty old coats. Eventually it becomes pretty gorgeous, the dry down is pure church incense. Ends deliciously but too masculine for me to wear.

Not a review but just a comment. The notes in this one sound so good! Spices woods and incense! I can't wait to get this.Does anybody know when they are available to order in Canada?Are these out yet? Probably on the UK site I'm guessing.
