Ghost Pine

(Review of the Eau de Parfum) Opens crisp, dewy, Christmas pines, slightly medicinal and mentholated. A shady, misty effect present as one comes to expect of Lvnea’s forest blends. Enchanting. Here you encounter the whole tree—the bark, the needles, the moss adorning the base. Really makes one feel situated in the middle of a shady pine grove. Possibly while lightly snowing. If a deeper woodiness and a smokiness were added it’d be quite reminiscent of Rising Phoenix’s Dark Forest 2012 attar which I also love. Delightfully fresh. Like Forêt Dormante, very naturally therapeutic, meditative. Smells like there might be a hint of lavender used here as well to help create the foggy effect. Dreamy. On skin the deep drydown consists of green, citric-astringent plant juice and dried leaves—on fabrics, the fresh pineyness lingers. Sillage intimate to moderate, longevity great. Highly recommended for fellow forest lovers. Priced competitively in the niche market. Bravo, madames!!! And since there’s no Fragrantica page for it yet, here’s my review for their limited edition Hemlock Shade EdP... An even deeper iteration of Lvnea’s classic shadowy pines. If Ghost Pine puts you in the midst of a misty pine grove, then Hemlock Shade transports you to the depths of a Northern evergreen forest, towering spruces and firs swaying in the night sky overhead, a mysterious, sweet smoke crawling through the valley... Opens fresh, green, coniferous, a tad bit minty/mentholic, with a fleeting medicinal funk which is difficult to place. Soon a soft, leathery smoke begins to echo, painted in subtle streaks of caramel, fruits and moss, with a rich and warm, sweet woodiness welling up from below. I wasn’t able to notice as many of the nuances my first couple times, but this is actually superb. Like Ghost Pine’s sexy, mysterious cousin who sleeps out under the stars every night. Although dark, the impressive freshness keeps it from becoming too much, evoking the atmosphere of an old growth pine forest lit by the glow of a full moon’s light. I also find that the warm, woody and slightly caramelized features keep it from being too solemn a scent, bringing to mind cozy evenings spent among company rather than by oneself. Sandalwood also provides a fitting creamy backbone for the scent to settle down onto. Sillage intimate to moderate, longevity great. While sharing similarities to Ghost Pine, the wonderful addition of Hemlock makes the blend worth seeking out for fellow forest aficionados. As a limited edition it’s priced a little higher than their standard line, but still relatively competitively in the niche market especially considering the desirable all-botanical nature of their scents. Bravo, madames!!! Long live Lvnea!!!!

Ghost pine is a fall day rife with wet pine needles and moss, an herbal bite underlying the scene. The notes from the website are crisp pine needles, crushed foliage, damp moss patches, and ancient woods, which is fairly close to what I smell in the blend. Pine and oakmoss are both present in equal doses upon first application, as well as a bit of syrup-y clove and allspice, and the underlying herbs give it a slight medicinal quality that I enjoy. The pine note is beautiful; it likely was achieved with fir balsam absolute and is crisp and clear, easily detectable at all phases of wear. The heavy use of moss gives this fragrance an almost-vintage feel, but I don't imagine anyone could easily confuse this for a vintage fragrance. Ghost pine lasts a respectable amount of time on my skin with a somewhat heavy sillage, an especially impressive feat for a natural perfume. I absolutely loved the sample of the oil version of Ghost Pine, so I ordered the 50 ml edp, which I am slightly less enamored with. It attains a nuance of vetiver in the drydown that I don't appreciate as much. Still excellent, but I prefer the oil.

TLDR: A scent you have to warm up to (unless you like crushed pine needles and smokey spice). I am completely new and by no means an expert, nor can I compare other niche perfumes to this, but wow. When I got my first whiff, I was slightly disappointed. I was only familiar with people-pleasing perfumes/colognes so when i heard of fragrances that potray an atmosphere that didnt purely involve flowers and vanilla or musk, I was intrigued and got a bottle of this forest scent. My first impression was that it was very VERY piney before it turned spicy, and it wrinkled my nose a little. Putting it on my skin, it softened into this kind of smokey scent with a little tea tree oil. On the second wear, I got more accustomed to it. I took the time to assign a scenery it invoked in my mind: the scent is reminiscent of opening a spice cabinet inside of an old cabin, crushed pine needles sprinkled on the unswept floor and a fireplace recently snuffed out. Honestly, I grew to love it and so did my cats.

I bought this as a Christmas fragrance, but it’s become one of my staples. While the pine note definitely can suggest the winter festive season, however found this scent so complex and agreeable I wore it most of the winter & early spring. This fragrance reminds me more of rainy forests and mist. It’s mysterious and sexy, and I get compliments every time I wear it. It’s definitely a more masculine scent but I love how it avoids the classic cologne musk, which I usually quite dislike. My biggest love for this fragrance is how green it is, every note feels harvested and fresh. My only complaint is that the longevity could be a bit longer, but I’ve found it clings to clothing quite well so it’s helpful to spritz whatever I’m wearing if I’m out for the day.

I love this one...an authentic dark, damp forest at night. I have bought the oil several times, and it always makes me happy to smell it; it brings out werewolf feelings that I enjoy. The only issue I have with this is that the patchouli note (not listed above for some reason?) starts to become dominant after a few hours, especially as the bottle ages (usually after a few months). For me, this limits the scope of when I feel comfortable wearing it. Alone on a rainy evening, (or around my partner who loves the smell of forest dirt more than just about anything), this is fine, but around a lot of people, it's a little too intense for me to pull off successfully. I agree though, certain women definitely could make this work... someone sensual and witchy.

Simple yet beautiful fragrance. To me this sends me back to camping in late summer/early fall, specifically walking to the bathroom at night. Its pitch black, you're surrounded by pine trees, the leaves have started to fall, and there's a chill. As it dries down the moss and leaves remain giving the fragrance a slightly more masculine lean, but the initial scent is a unisex fragrance.

This is realistic northern pine forests. I adore this scent, I wanted to try it for a very long time, and it did not disappoint in the slightest <3

I am surprised no one has reviewed this scent before. I am a big fan of Lvnea, she creates beautiful products for great price points and doesn't fail to disappoint in her use of natural essences. Ghost pine to me, feels like the OG of Lvnea perfumery. It's a realistic interpretation of a wet forest. It is comparable to Slumberhouse's Norne but softer. From the website: Notes: crisp pine needles, crushed foliage, damp moss patches, and ancient woods. Aspects: coniferous, fresh, woody, balsamic. This is the perfect autumn scent. It's a mix of pine needles, wet fallen leaves, moss and drying wood to my nose. The pine is very obvious, the second accord that comes in strong for me is the scent of fallen leaves- ones that are drying in the sunlight after morning frost. It is a warm, comforting scent.

Yes, the pine is there. The leaves, the moss. But it just smells so utterly WET. People comment that it smells like the PNW, but living there, I really disagree. Pine and balsam fir isn't overly represented here, so maybe thats why I don't love it. It's a forest smell i don't recognise. It's got a sweetness to it that reeks of decay to me. I love a forest scent but this is too grim. However, it makes for a PERFECT halloween scent, so I like it for that aspect. I dont find myself reaching for this scent at any other time, really. It's a bit too heady, cloying, and distracting for daily use. And I really hate the idea of smelling like damp, and it's why I struggle often with natural "autumn" fragrances, so that could just be my own projection.

This is a guilty pleasure of mine. I live in hot humid conditions and rarely find a chance to wear this in public, and whenever I do, my friends made a point of telling me how much they don’t like it. But f*ck em. This reminds me of rainforests of the northwest, leaves, pine, moss and wood. It brings comfort memories of vacationing in Washington and Oregon. Tbh i didn’t really like it at first, but now I really dig it. I wouldn’t say this is a crowd pleaser, but if you like it, it’s worth the money.

Ghost Pine EdP opened a bit harshly with this nose-clearing mix of aromatics. Initially the smell of tea tree oil overpowers everything else to me but after about an hour it mellows out and dries down to a multidimensional aromatic with notes of pine, freshly felled wood and some damp oakmoss. Mind you, the tea tree oil was still there but less overwhelming and quite refreshing. Overall I like it but I wish I liked it more. It stayed on my skin for maybe 3-4 hours with pretty intimate sillage.

Absolutely love this. Wet coniferous forest, humid sticky sap, an astringent sweetness of the resin running through it. Intimate, freshly enveloping, grounding. Feels like forest bathing. Excited to try layering it with other scents. I went through half of the 2ml tester in the first week. It's summer here (in the midst of a humid heatwave) and it works beautifully - 2 people told me I smelled amazing on my first wear, so it's not just a winter scent IMO. Definitely buying the full bottle.

Smells very pleasant. From the bottle, the dark-smoky woody pine needles are obvious. On my skin, the fresh pine fades quickly and becomes more of a sweet wet smoke with a hint of pine. Though this fragrance has bold attributes (the pine), it seems like a more intimate one that makes an appearance only when one gets very close. I would be more likely to wear this on a date night IN rather than a date night out.

I have a sample of this. VERY green - beautiful chypre. It leans very masculine to me though. Definitely cold weather. It makes me think of snow covered firs. Not blind but safe.

Yeah...getting much more oakmoss than pine, unfortunately. As mentioned by others, I also get quite a bit of lavender as well. Not the coniferous fragrance I was hoping for, but still okay. A soapy/oakmoss with lavender and a hint of pine which is as mentioned also, most noticeable in the opening. To be fair though, the name does fit...the "pine" is pretty much a ghost in this one.

really really great photorealistic woods perfume. it was a bit too masculine for my taste but perfect if you want something peppery, mossy, and hits the nail on the head on the dried leaves notes.

I purchased a sample of the oil because it smelled 'better' to me, a bit more resin-y, in store than the perfume. the initial notes were harsh but I quickly became obsessed -- even though it's nothing I imagined it smelling like -- that is until I had to keep reapplying to smell anything. now it's the next day and I smell like a Chinese medicine shop :( extremely bitter and a bit nausea inducing. I'd like to try a sample of the perfume version.

I usually like fragrances that lean masculine, but this one is not appealing to me. I like the fir tree note, and it doesn't come across as a yankee candle christmas scent, but there's a dirty smokiness to it that I don't care for. I'm also getting an almost potpourri vibe. Passing my sample along to my husband.

TEA TREE!! I hesitated on this review because there was something in this that I KNEW wasn't just pine and I went through all the possibilities in my head; Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Lavender, etc it could be that this also has a small amount of these but I finally just realised that this definitely opens with a burst of tea tree! I LOVE this perfume, like LOVE and I don't even care for the smell of pine but snagged a used bottle cheap and was curious about the brand but oh man am I SOOO glad I did. I want to wear this ALL THE TIME. Even in Australian summer because this is not autumn/winter coded at all. This is a decadent, nasal clearing, fresh burst of essential oils, fresh pine forest air, something deliciously sweet and addictive and cozy which *may* be the dried fallen leaves note or is maybe (in my amateur opinion) a hidden cashmere and gourmand note. I'm not sure if I am projecting from my own scent memory experiences mushroom hunting in pine forests but I fully get fresh pine forest air with extra sinus-clearing burst of menthol essential oils like those listed above with subtle backings of forest floor detritus (dead leaves, moss and soil), woollen sweater, camp fire or some type of witchy incense with something sweet like sugar (like what was used in Stora Skuggans Mistpouffer). I have ALWAYS associated pine fragrances with candles and household cleaners but somehow this is so far removed from any scent associations i've had for pine that I ADORE this and will be literally heartbroken when I finish this (which will be soon) because the bottle is so small and expensive and the sprayer head pumps so much juice with every spray (without a way to press softer to spray less) that I feel like I loose a tenth of it everytime I wear it. I feel like I now have to revisit Fille en Aiguille by Serge Lutens because this one has converted me from a pine h8r to a pine lvr 😍 If you want a really fresh, mentholy, incensey and sweet pine forest scent, this is for you! Don't sleep on it! Edit to add I do not think this is masculine leaning at all. Maybe if you only ultra girlie perfumes like PDM Delina, but if you like weird or photorealistic perfumes, this is 100% unisex
