Royal Rose Aoud

Not every rose aoud combo has to knock you over the head with a foghorn like potency, some can purr. This Micallef purrs. I should point out though that my bottle which was obtained from a completely reputable source says "Royal Rose Aoud" rather than Rose Aoud. Everything about this perfume is beautiful from box, to bottle, to scent. The opening is a velvety soft, fruity pink rose. This is not a sharp tea rose, this has a warm and plush quality that verges on powdery. As it dries the fruitness mellows out and the rosy scent gets creamier and slightly waxy (possibly due to the vanilla note?). Approximately 30 minutes after application the slightly oily aoud note appears in tandem with the guaiac wood, grounding the whole composition and substantially darkening the tone. Sillage: 7 feet Longevity: 10 hours on skin. Weeks on a scarf. An incredibly well made scent that wears as a complex evolution of rose from beginning to end. I think very few men would be comfortable wearing this because of the intensely sweet/fruity opening. The rose aoud dry down is to die for, and when worn with red lipstick and killer heels, any woman wearing this will feel like a femme fatale.

I just adore Rose Aoud! What a beauty, I cannot get enough of it. It is rose and aoud done in a totally gourmand way, just like rose confiture mixed with some aoud, ( very little to my nose), but just enough to give it that middle eastern character. It starts very sweet, and quite strong, with aoud dominating, after which the aoud subsides, giving more room to roses and fruits. The sweetness doesn't last, actually the whole scent looses power within half an hour, but the drydown is clean and soft, just a trace of flowers and woods remaining on skin. There is something very feminine and lovely here, and I can compare this more to Onde Mystere than to Montale. If you look for a statement rose and aoud perfume, please go for Montale Aoud Queen Roses. A very very charismatic presence, an indulgence of senses seeking immediate pleasure, it is love in the infatuation phase, where you just can't get enough of the beloved! Wonderful and addictive! *Review for ROSE AOUD (not Royal Rose Aoud) ROSE AOUD is not in the database and the notes appear to be a little different: A perfect spring/summer weight rose oud!! So soft and natural smelling...such a beautiful fragrance! With the weather warming up, I have been mourning (in advance) some of my rose perfumes because they will be a bit heavy for the warmer months. This is a perfect solution for my rose/oud fix! The rose is pink and delicate, the fruit is lightly sweet and just the right amount, the oud is very light and serving as only a backdrop along with creamy vanilla. A dainty rose oud without the usual touch of masculinity. A real beauty.

The matriarch of my collection. A super thick rose oil topped with berry citrus that smells almost like pineapple, on top of a slightly animalic oud. Love it so much. Linear, but powerful, and regal. Love layering this with Montale's Full Incense to make a super elegant scent.

Here is an up date. This smells so much better in the sweltering heat. That typical oud smell that’s in ouds for beginners type fragrance is subdued in the moist and hot air. Just in case you are wondering what I mean by that, I’ll explain. Im going to be frank with you. A lot of beginner ouds smell like someone just sprayed a bathroom after using it. You can’t tell if what you are smelling is a mix of heavy aerosol covering the scent of someone taking a dump or just the fragrance spray itself and you’ve been conditioned to associate it with dropping a load. Those cheap vanilla sprays have some weird deep smell that for years I always thought was the mix (spray + shit) but turned out was the smell all by itself. I have found that where I live, people of a certain generation tend to wear these “deep” smelling fragrances. Yeah, it’s rosy but isn’t super sweet or powdery. It has more of a shampoo or bubble bath vibe like others have mentioned while in this summer heat. The saffron and fruity notes blend in really well making it smell juicy and almost tart. It definitely sticks to clothes and right now is imbedded in my robe. Also, others can easily smell this on me with just two sprays on the wrists. The dry down really smells like something from my past. I thought it was Malibu musk but I recently sampled a fragrance imitation oil of it and it was nothing like I remember. It’s something I smelled when I was a child while playing with toys and spraying some tiny fragrance can.

While I was trying this out, I started dabbling in bakhoor. My first venture in bakhoor was trying the tea light candle incense burner kits from Dukhni. Royal Rose Aoud and Ajmal Rosewood smell like the different oud incense blocks heated. On the surface, Royal Rose Aoud smells like something my grandmom would wear when I was little. Hiding in the back ground and sometimes right before the final dry down I smell something else. It brought me back to when I was 6 or 7 and spraying something i loved. It took me a while to figure out what it was I remember spraying. It finally hit me. Something in this reminds me of a can of Malibu Musk. I am in no way saying that Royal Rose Aoud smells like Malibu Musk. Something in this fragrance reminded me of it and haunted me because I couldn’t remember at first. Mainly because I was transported back to the days of watching Power Rangers and Barney. This is not really sweet like Jo Malone Rose Velvet and Oud but it is similar. I just smell, powdery rose, oud and fruits.

This is very pretty--a tender pink rose sweetened by a touch of creamy vanilla. However I have smelled many perfumes that are similar, and I am bummed that the white chocolate didn't come through as well as I expected. I smell a lot more white chocolate in Montale's Red Aoud, but that's a bit spicy too. I find this perfume to be similar to Briar Rose by Ineke, but I like Briar Rose better and feel it's more gourmand. Really nice perfume, but not a "must-have" for me.

Confusing. Purest pink fresh rose bloom as a start. A couple of hours in and the mysterious raw aoud takes the lead. It suddenly changes from airy fresh and floral to very personal, physiological exhaust scent. Such a clash I cannot understand it only as a piece of art. Documenting an individual. In any act it is somewhat beautiful and unique... hmm... shocking.

Despite the notes, this reminds me a lot of Al Rehab Al Sharquiah. Dewy rose petals dripping over sweet purple fruit flesh, with a touch of bright oud. The main difference is something that makes me feel crazy, because in RRA I smell something slightly spicy and sugary, like gingerbread. I have no idea where this is coming from.

To quote another reviewer: Extraordinarily ordinary, I cannot imagine paying the price tag for this extremely average and rather forgettable rose oud perfume. Smells very singular, FLAT and simple on me after a very short time. No vanilla, no chocolate, not much oud...just some mild rose. For the price, I would expect a fragrance with much more complexity, intrigue, longevity & silage. This perfume opens with an extremely sharp, almost harsh medicinal note that dissipates within minutes. A fleeting note of ambergris follows, as do weak notes of synthetic smelling oud and "any-kind-of-ordinary" rose. Oud on this does not last at all and within minutes is (barely) detectable. Sadly, after 10-15 minutes, this much anticipated aoud fragrance morphed into a mere hint of a "rose solofleur.". Longevity is poor; silage is weak. Perhaps it is because I tried this one on the heels of Tiziana Terenzi "Gold Rose Oudh" and Maison Francis Kurkdjian "Oud Silk Mood;" however, this rose oud feels pale, faint, singular, fleeting & weak in comparison. An alright fragrance for some...just not my cup of tea (rose). Sorry...I couldn't resist!

Today I gave 7 full bottles of perfume - all victims of blind buys - to my house cleaner who has an extended family so even if she doesn't like a few, one of her four daughters probably will. This bottle of Rose Aoud will go to her also. A blind buy that wasn't successful. I decided to review it and try and determine why this isn't working on me and I think I've isolated my dislike to the drydown when the musk note comes into the composition. Combining rose and aoud is nothing new, and even if it was kinda mediocre I could still wear it....but it's the skanky musk that spoils it. I just can't take it and will be washing it off as soon as I'm done writing this review. I've never been able to wear this longer than one hour, so I can't comment on the performance but it appears to be great. Fifteen minutes after applying my husband who was in the same room but 10 feet away could smell it. (He didn't like it either) This isn't pretty. This isn't enjoyable on me. This is no longer in my collection. EDIT: I now think it’s the kind of oud that was used in this composition, just too animalic and strong.

This is more of an oud fruit bowl on me, with a few candied rose petals tossed in, as if the experience wasn't already strange enough. A very confusing total effect that brings to mind a young & fickle Arabian princess of a 1001 nights era, who wants a typical sugary girly fruity floral but wants some local flavor in there as well. I get no sophistication out of it, though I wouldn't go as far as making a Paris Hilton-gone-Arabian analogy (even if entirely out of respect to the previous reviewers, whose tastes I would never liken to such sugary synthetic monsters :) ). Definitely requires an oud lover -that note is strong here - who is looking to diversify their oud collection with something unusual.

Opens quite sharp and stingy/metallic with soft rose notes. The oud softens a bit and the rose becomes sweeter. I also detect ambroxan at this point, not overwhelming though. The jasmine adds a soft sweet floral note. Sillage is soft to moderate, longevity is moderate. I don't like this oud as much as I like Emir by the same house. The rose becomes a bit sour on my skin--the jasmine actually is the strongest floral hovering over the oud. This one's not for me.

I really hate to post a negative review, but this is a tragic example of a rose or oud fragrance. I have to acknowledge the exceptional staying power, it's ironic how the least elegant concoctions linger so tenaciously. Another reviewer mentioned "My little Pony"....voila.

It's "Rose Aoud", with a A @ oud. Of course, it's more luxurious, lol. They should have called it "Raose Aoud", or "Roase Aoud" ;-)

Rose Aoud This is so exotic, so feminine, and classy. Royal Rose Aoud leaves in the air a wake of demanding women. The opening is bright and fresh with citrus. There is a hint of fruit, it is not clear what kind of fruit it is... Then the scent becomes sweeter as the fragrant rose makes its entrance, it is dewy and romantic. Oud becomes evident, deep yet subtle, it is really appealing. The rose reminds me of sugared rose petals, not overpoweringly sweet, it is only finely sweet to my nose and it is balanced by the addicting aroma of oud, it also adds depth, I also get very subtle vanilla, creamy sandalwood, faint patchouli and musk in the base. Rose Aoud is a beautiful rose, I liked to wear it, I love roses and oud together, here the two notes are so gorgeous! Longevity is all day and sillage is pleasantly noticeable.

I had high hopes for this one, a sample of it came with the M.Micallef discovery pack and I thought I was saving the best til last. It starts out soapy and saffronesque for a minute, then come fresh young pink roses and a particularly leathery oud. Warm and sweet, with a touch of black berries, it gives an overall impression of fluffiness and bubble bath which increasingly overpowers the oud. It becomes sugary and even fruitier as it dries down, and the oud disappears, to be replaced entirely by muskiness which makes it a cutesy scent even. It's a pretty, and rather soft take on the classic rose oud combo, which I should have expected from this house.

The dry down is mild & woody, but most of the wear time for me is roses. It seems that the other notes are there mostly to enhance that rose impression. It is quite simple and regal in a way I didn't expect. It's like walking through a huge rose garden and breathing in their scent and fresh, verdant air. It's not heavy at all, I feel that it has no age limitations... It does smell more fresh, pink and romantic than red, deep and sensual. If you're looking for a realistic & fresh rose scent, this is good. I think I would wear it to a spring party, or a daytime date that isn't too intimate. It makes me feel... fancy, but not like I'm trying too hard.

Strange fate of some perfumes . I've bought Rose Aud two years ago, I used for a day and did 'nt like it at all. In search of "my rose" to various sites I read a good review and I remembered that I had ( but the price was due to hit me ..). So I dug and I love it! Maybe my chemistry has changed, but now I find, though sumptuous, well designed, an arab rose dance between woods and spices, served with a lokum abundance and delight in a warm room full of fruity flavors and happily blooming. I also smell some licorice . Not for all, best used at night, be appreciated for the duration. A little tacky the bottle .

Lots of negative reviews I think the problem is the aoud it's very medicinal. Saffron also tends to add a bitterness perhaps the two combined aren't great Ive noticed this with other saffron oud perfumes. Not the most refined nor royal and sadly the rose doesn't redeem it. And now that I've seen the little pony reference I just can't think of anything else! If you like a bitter herbal oud this might be for you. Try before you buy!
